In a stop-motion animation, Bumpy, a globe-shaped yellow alien, pilots his spaceship to Earth.
Bumpi says, AH?

Bumpi says, BUMPADOO!
[Popping, chiming]
Bumpi writes the show title with the smoke from the exhaust of his spaceship.

In her backyard, Li Li, a human girl with short black hair, plays with a hula hoop. Edgar, the Basset Hound, lies napping by her feet. Li Li drops the hula hoop and picks it up. Bumpi arrives in the yard.
Li Li says, HI, BUMPI! DO YOU WANT TO TRY TO HULA HOOP?
Bumpi says, HOO-BA-HOOSE! WOO, OOH, OOH.
[Laughing, slide whistles]
Bumpi hula hoops. He loses control and spins in the hoop.
Bumpi says, WHOA!
[Moaning, giggling, wobbling]
Li Li says, THAT WAS AMAZING, BUMPI! WASN'T THAT AMAZING, EDGAR?
[Edgar grumbling]
Bumpi says, AMAZ—
[Bumpi hiccupping, groaning]
Bumpi turns into a rocking chair.
Li Li says, AW! IT'S OKAY, BUMPI. YOU JUST HICCUPPED.
Bumpi says, HE-COOB?
Li Li says, IT'S SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE.
[Hiccupping, slide whistle]
Bumpi changes into his globe shape.
Li Li says, IT CAN HAPPEN FROM EATING TOO FAST OR GETTING TOO EXCITED, OR EVEN CHEWING BUBBLEGUM.
Bumpi says, UH, BUMPI-GUM?
Li Li says, BUBBLEGUM, NOT BUMPI-GUM!
[Both laughing, Bumpi hiccupping, slide whistle]
Bumpi changes into a rocking horse.
Li Li says, OH, BUMPI. WE CAN TRY TO MAKE THE HICCUPS STOP. LET'S TRYING HOLDING YOUR BREATH AND SWALLOW, LIKE THIS.
[Inhaling, straining, slide whistles, hiccupping, groaning, tense music plays]
Bumpi changes into a fire hydrant, and Edgar lifts his back leg.
Li Li says, EDGAR, NO!
[Hiccupping, slide whistle, Edgar groaning, the music stops]
Bumpi changes into his globe shape.
Bumpi says, EDGAR, YUCK!
[Hiccupping, soft music note plays, slide whistle, clanking]
Bumpi turns into an anchor and falls to the ground.
Li Li says, DON'T WORRY, BUMPI. TRY THIS.
[Footsteps rustling, Bumpi vocalizing, upbeat music plays, slide whistle, water pouring]
Bumpi sticks his tongue out at Edgar. Li Li carries her purple water bottle. She squirts water into her mouth.
Li Li says, IF YOU DRANK WATER UPSIDE DOWN, IT SHOULD STOP THE HICCUPS.
[Hiccupping, water splashing, upbeat music plays, gulping, hiccupping, splashing]
Li Li squirts water into Bumpi’s mouth. Bumpi turns into a canoe, and water splashes on Li Li and Edgar.
Li Li shouts, says, AAH!
[Hiccupping, Li Li giggling]
Bumpi changes back to his globe shape.
Li Li says, OKAY, NOW, THERE IS ANOTHER WAY.
[Footsteps rustling, slide whistle, soft music plays quietly]
Li Li walks to Bumpi, and he grows a large ear.
Li Li whispers, WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IS BE VERY, VERY QUIET.
Bumpi says, OOH?
[Bumpi vocalizing]
Li Li whispers, AND WE STAND VERY, VERY STILL. AND THEN WE JUST HAVE TO...
Li Li shouts, SCARE YOU!
[Bumpi screaming, Edgar whining, splatting, Bumpi moaning, groaning]
Bumpi and Edgar roll away from Li Li. Bumpi lands as a puddle on the grass.
Li Li asks, WELL?
[Upbeat music plays]
Bumpi says, HMM... NO HIC-OOP! BUMPAD—
[Hiccupping, slide whistles]
Bumpi turns into a snowman. Li Li picks up her hula hoop.
Li Li says, I HAVE AN IDEA, BUMPI. LET'S JUST GO PLAY.
Bumpi says, PLAY? HE-COOPS!
[Hiccupping]
Bumpi changes back to his globe shape.
Li Li says, YES, BUT WE CAN PLAY EVEN WITH HICCUPS.
[Bumpi grunting, hoop whooshing, Bumpi laughing, exclaiming, Edgar barking, upbeat music plays]
Bumpi hula hoops, and Edgar nudges Li Li’s arm.
Li Li says, EDGAR, YOU'RE RIGHT! THE HICCUPS ARE GONE!
Bumpi says, HI-COOPS GOON!
[Slide whistle, whooshing]
Li Li picks up her hoop and hula hoops.
Li Li says, MOST OF THE TIME, THEY JUST GO AWAY ON THEIR OWN. KEEP GOING, BUMPI!
[Bumpi exclaiming, laughing, slide whistle, flatulence tooting, upbeat music plays]
Bumpi drops his hula hoop and stops moving. Edgar and Li Li lean towards him.
Li Li says, OH, BUMPI!
[Edgar groaning, Li Li laughing, hiccupping, flatulence tooting, Edgar grumbling]
Edgar walks away from Bumpi.
[Upbeat music plays, hiccupping, flatulence tooting]
