Transcript: Library of Parliament 2
(music plays)
The opening sequence shows the Canadian flag atop the Parliament, a man playing hockey outdoors, a trout splashing off the water, a panorama of Toronto from Lake Ontario, a Mounted Policeman saluting and a view of cropped fields.
A title reads "My Canada."
A group of narrators say MY CANADA!
A kid giggles and says SWEET.
A teacher faces a classroom. He is balding and has short, black hair on the sides of his head. He wears a white shirt and a striped tie. He stands in front of a map of Canada, a chalkboard with a monument drawing, and a TV set.
The Teacher says GOOD DAY, CLASS, FOR
TODAY'S CLASS, WE WILL BE
WATCHING A VIDEO REPORT ON ALL
THE INTERESTING THINGS THAT ARE
KEPT IN THE LIBRARY OF
PARLIAMENT.
LET'S BEGIN.
The teacher turns on the TV.
Leah is around 12, with brown hair tied-up. She wears a blue T-shirt over a white shirt.
Leah says HI, MY NAME IS LEAH.
AND TODAY WE ARE HERE IN THE
PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS IN OTTAWA
ONTARIO, AND THIS IS MY CANADA.
WE ARE HERE IN THE PARLIAMENT
LIBRARY WITH MY FRIEND, JULIE
WHO IS A TOUR GUIDE HERE.
SO, JULIE CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT
THESE BOOKS AROUND US?
Julie is in her late twenties with shoulder-length wavy brown hair. She wears a blue jacket with buttons.
Julie says I'D LOVE TO.
SO THESE ARE THE DEBATES OF THE
HOUSE OF COMMONS SO IF EVER WE
WANT TO LOOK BACK ON A DEBATE
IT'S POSSIBLE TO TAKE ONE OF
THESE BOOKS AND TAKE A LOOK AND
SEE SOME OF THE DETAILS OF THE
DEBATES.
Leah says SO WOW, THERE'S A LOT
OF BOOKS.
Julie says LOTS OF DEBATES.
Leah says SO CAN YOU TELL ME ANY
OTHER REALLY INTERESTING THINGS
THAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS
LIBRARY?
Julie says ABSOLUTELY.
WELL SOME OF THE THINGS I FIND
INTERESTING INCLUDE THESE GLASS
FLOORS ON THE SECOND AND THIRD
LEVELS.
NOW, WHEN THE LIBRARY WAS BUILT
WE DIDN'T HAVE ELECTRICITY SO WE
HAD TO FIND A WAY TO USE THE
NATURAL LIGHT AS MUCH AS
POSSIBLE.
SO THE DECISION WAS MADE TO MAKE
GLASS FLOORS SO THAT THE LIGHT
COULD FILTER DOWN TO THIS LEVEL
AND WE COULD SEE THE BOOKS THAT
WE WERE LOOKING AT.
Leah says OH WOW.
Julie says VERY NEAT.
ANOTHER THING IS THE STATUE
RIGHT AT THE CENTER OF THE ROOM.
SO THAT'S THE STATUE OF QUEEN
VICTORIA AND SHE WAS QUEEN AT
CONFEDERATION.
Leah says OKAY.
Julie says NOW ONE LAST THING I
THINK YOU MIGHT FIND
INTERESTING, IS OUR MOST
VALUABLE TITLE, CALLED BIRDS OF
AMERICA, AUTOBAHN'S BIRDS OF
AMERICA, WORTH AN ESTIMATED 13
TO 14 MILLION DOLLARS.
Leah says LIKE THAT'S A LOT OF
MONEY.
Julie says IT IS.
Leah says YOU GUYS HAVE THAT?
Julie says MHM.
Leah says WOW.
WELL THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR
SHARING YOUR COOL IDEAS WITH ME.
Julie says SO EXCITED TO.
Leah says BYE GUYS.
The Teacher says WHAT A GREAT REPORT!
WHO KNOWS WHAT TREASURES YOU
MIGHT FIND IN YOUR VERY OWN
LIBRARY.
(music plays)
The end slate reads "TVOKIDS, Copyright 2011, The Ontario Educational Communications Authority."
