In animation, birds flatter over a tall apartment building in the city.

Luc and Amala on Lili's door. Sam is with her.

Sam has short black hair and wears blue trousers and a yellow T-shirt with blue rims.

Lili has long black hair and wears big purple-rimmed glasses, yellow trousers, and a pink T-shirt with red rims.

Amala is a little girl with brown hair in a top knot and wears blue short overalls and a yellow T-shirt.

Luc has curly brown hair and wears red pants and a purple sweater.

Kids walk down a staircase and go play in the park.

A song plays that goes WHO'S THAT KNOCKING
AT MY DOOR?
I'LL RACE YOU
TO THE BOTTOM FLOOR
WHO'S THAT PLAYING
HIDE AND SEEK?
COUNT TO 10
AND DON'T YOU PEEK!
LET'S HEAD OUTSIDE AND PLAY
CREATE A BRAND-NEW GAME
OR SEARCH
BENEATH THE STAIRS
FOR HIDDEN TREASURE THERE
16 HUDSON...
THAT'S WHERE
MY FRIENDS ARE WAITING
16 HUDSON...
WON'T YOU COME ALONG?
16 HUDSON...
WHERE EVERYBODY'S WELCOME
16 HUDSON...
THAT'S WHERE I BELONG!

All the kids in the park blow up balloons and the morph into a rainbow over the block.

The name of the show appears in a street sign. It reads "16 Hudson."

A caption reads "Created by Shabnam Rezaei and Aly Jetha."

The name of the episode reads "Tree's company."

By the dumpster, Amala sorts out garbage for recycling.

Her mom says WELL, SOMEBODY'S BEEN BUSIER
THAN A CAT WITH PUPPIES!

Amala says I GOT SO MUCH
DONE THIS WEEK.
RECYCLING...

Mom says COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP...

Amala says HOMEWORK...

Mom says YOU'RE READY TO TAKE OVER
THE WORLD!
BUT EVEN WORLD DOMINANCE
CAN BE TIRING.
HOW ABOUT
A LITTLE DOWN TIME, BITOO?

Amala says ABSO-TOTAL-UTELY.
AND I KNOW JUST THE PLACE!
TO THE PARK!
AND TO MY FAVOURITE,
AMALA-MAZING...
TREE!

As she gets closer to the tree, she sees JP marking the tree with spray paint.

Amala says JP! WHAT'S HAPPENING?

J.P. says HEY, AMALA!
THIS TREE IS BEING MARKED
FOR REMOVAL.

Amala says WHY WOULD IT BE CUT DOWN?

J.P. says I'M SORRY,
BUT THIS TREE IS OLD
AND UNHEALTHY,
SO THE PARK MADE
THE NECESSARY DECISION
TO REMOVE IT.

Amala says NO! IT CAN'T BE HAPPENING!
WE'VE DONE
SO MUCH STUFF TOGETHER...

She remembers taking naps under the tree, sitting on a branch, and watching birds all year long.

(music plays)

She says I CAN'T LET MY SWEET MAPLE
BE REMOVED.
GUESS WHAT, MA...
I STILL HAVE ONE THING
TO DO AFTER ALL.

Mom says FIGHT CRIME?

Amala says SAVE. MY. TREE.
WITH A LITTLE HELP
FROM MY FRIENDS...

Later, she meets with her friends outside the building.

Sam says WHY NOT JUST SIT
UNDER ANOTHER TREE?
A TREE'S A TREE, RIGHT?

Amala says NO!
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE TREE.
IT'S SPECIAL.

Lili says AMALA, I TOTALLY HEAR YOU.

Amala says YOU DO?

Lili says BUT MAYBE THE PARK
IS MAKING ROOM
FOR SOMETHING EVEN BETTER...
LIKE A SWING SET OR FOUNTAIN...

Sam says OR A DIRECT EARTH
TO MARS LAUNCHING PAD!

Lili says WOULDN'T THAT BE AWESOME?

Amala says NO!
IF NO ONE WILL LISTEN,
I'LL DO IT ON MY OWN!

Luc says I THOUGHT WE LISTENED GREAT.
I HEARD EVERY WORD!

Amala runs to the part, sticks a sign on the street and climbs up a branch.

She says "OPERATION SAVE THE TREE."
BEGINS!
LISTEN UP!
IF THEY WANT THIS TREE,
THEY'LL HAVE TO TAKE ME WITH IT!

Mom says BUT WHAT ABOUT LUNCH, BITOO?

Amala says I'M NOT LEAVING...
THEN OR EVER!

A man with a dog comes along and says WOW, LOOKS LIKE THIS TREE
HAS QUITE A PROTECTOR.

Amala says MM-HMM.
IT'S ALWAYS BEEN HERE FOR ME,
SO I'M HERE FOR IT...
UNTIL SOMEBODY ACTUALLY LISTENS!

Little by little, neighbours gather around the tree and discuss the issue.

(music plays)

A photographer takes a picture of Amala on the tree.

Amala says AGH!

Sam says HEY, AMALA,
YOU'RE GOING TO BE ON THE NEWS!
YOU'RE FAMOUS!

Lili says GO, AMALA!

A reporter says LOCAL NEWS,
CHANNEL 4.
MISS AMALA,
YOU'VE GAINED SOME ATTENTION
WITH YOUR PEACEFUL SIT-IN TODAY.
CAN YOU TELL US WHY YOU FEEL
SO STRONGLY
ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR TREE?

Amala says UH...

The reporter says WE'RE ALL LISTENING...

Amala says TREES ARE IMPORTANT
TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND ANIMALS...
BUT ESPECIALLY TO PEOPLE!
AND IF YOU PLANT MORE,
YOU CAN HELP THE AIR
AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
PLUS...
TREES ARE PRETTY!
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!

Lili says UM, AMALA?
I WAS WONDERING
HOW LONG YOU WERE PLANNING
TO SIT THERE?
BECAUSE WE HAD PLANS
TO GO TO THE LIBRARY
THIS WEEKEND, REMEMBER?

Luc says BUT IF YOU ARE LIVING
IN A TREE FOREVER,
CAN I HAVE YOUR BIKE?

A van pulls up by the park.

Sam says UH-OH.
THE OFFICIAL
TREE KNOCKER-DOWNERS!

Amala says NO!
YOU PEOPLE, STAY AWAY!

J.P. says HEY, GUYS.
HEY, AMALA.

Amala crosses her arms, looks the other way and says HELLO, MR. EDWARD'S FATHER.

J.P. says QUITE THE IMPRESSIVE SIT-IN.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO SPEAK UP
WHEN YOU BELIEVE IN SOMETHING.

Amala says THANK YOU,
BUT IF YOU'RE HERE
TO TRY AND TALK ME INTO ME
INTO CLIMBING DOWN, YOU CAN'T.

J.P. says ACTUALLY, I'M NOT HERE TO TALK.
I'M HERE TO LISTEN.

Amala says LISTEN?
TO ME?

J.P. says NOPE. TO THE TREE.

Amala says HOW CAN YOU LISTEN TO A TREE?

J.P. says I DON'T KNOW,
BUT I'VE BEEN DOING
IT MY WHOLE LIFE,
BECAUSE THIS IS
MY FAVOURITE TREE, TOO!

Amala says IT IS?

J.P. says YEP.
WE USED TO DO
SO MUCH STUFF TOGETHER...

Amala says SEE?
THE BEST TREE EVER.

J.P. says ABSO-TOTAL-UTELY.
AND THAT'S WHY...
SHH!
LISTEN.
HEAR THAT?
THAT'S THE TREE.
IT'S TRYING
TO TELL US SOMETHING.

Amala says IT IS?

J.P. says AND LOOK AROUND.
SEE ANYTHING DIFFERENT?

Amala says MY FEET
ARE CLOSER TO THE GROUND?

J.P. says YEP.

Amala says BUT THAT'S BECAUSE
I GREW TALLER THIS SUMMER.
RIGHT?

J.P. says MAYBE.
BUT IT'S ALSO BECAUSE
THE ROOTS ARE WEAK,
AND OVER TIME,
THE TREE HAS SLANTED
TO ONE SIDE.

Amala says I THOUGHT IT FELT
A LITTLE TIPPY...

J.P. says NOW LOOK CLOSER.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT
THE BRANCH BESIDE US
COMPARED TO
SOME OF THE OTHERS?

Amala says THERE ARE NO LEAVES ON IT.
IS IT SICK?

J.P. says SORT OF.
THAT'S WHY IT CAN'T GROW
ANY MORE LEAVES,
AND THE BIRDS
SEEM TO KNOW IT.

Amala says REALLY?

J.P. says YEAH.
THEY LIKE TO SIT ON
DEAD OR DYING BRANCHES.
THEY CAN SEE BETTER
WITH NO LEAVES BLOCKING THEM.
BUT THAT ALSO MEANS
THAT THE TREE IS UNHEALTHY.
IT'S STOPPED GROWING.
NOW IT CAN FALL DOWN
WITHOUT MUCH WARNING.

A gasp of wind breaks some branches off and the birds on them have to fly away.

Amala says THEY CAN FLY AWAY
SO THEY WON'T GET HURT.
BUT PEOPLE?

J.P. says NOT SO MUCH.
THAT'S WHY WE NEED
TO TAKE IT DOWN.

Amala gets teary and says BUT...
BUT IT'S MY FAVOURITE AND...

J.P. says THIS TREE HAS HAD A GREAT LIFE,
WITH FRIENDS LIKE US.
BUT NOW...
IT'S TIME TO LET IT GO.

Amala says YOU'RE RIGHT.
UM... EVERYBODY?
I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE.
MY SIT-IN IS OVER.

J.P. says COMING?

Amala says MM-HMM,
BUT I STILL HAVE TO DO
ONE MORE THING...

J.P. helps her down.

Amala turns to the tree, hugs it and says GOODBYE.

Days later, Amala sits on a bench at the park and reads a book.

J.P. comes along and says HEY, AMALA.
LIKE YOUR NEW BENCH?

Amala says IT'S AMALA-MAZING!
THANK YOU FOR RECYCLING MY...
OUR...
FAVOURITE TREE TO MAKE IT!
IT'LL LAST FOREVER, RIGHT?

J.P. sits next to her and says I DON'T SEE WHY NOT.

Amala says THANKS, JP.

She sighs and says JP?

J.P. says HMM?

Amala says I HEAR IT.

J.P. says YOU DO?

Amala says MM-HMM. IT'S LIKE,
IF I CONCENTRATE REALLY HARD,
I CAN STILL HEAR THE TREE.
ITS HEART.
WHISPERING.
TO ME.

J.P. says I HEAR IT, TOO.

Music plays as the end credits roll.
