[Upbeat music plays]

In a snowy playground, a smiling young girl wears a pink jacket, a hooded pink fleece sweater, and a grey beanie. She’s missing one of her front teeth. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Inside, the brown-haired girl wraps white tape around a hula hoop and mixes ingredients in a bowl in a sink.

A narrator says, THIS IS ALEXCIIA. SHE'S A CRAFTY ARTIST. SHE COOKS UP A STORM IN THE KITCHEN.

The brown-haired girl, Alexciia, holds a pan filled with fry bread.

Alexciia says, LOOK WHAT WE MADE. IT'S FRY BREAD.

Alexciia hugs a grey buffalo statue.

The narrator says, SHE'LL INTRODUCE US TO HER FRIEND IINII. SHE LOVES TO DANCE LIKE AN EAGLE.

In a room with colourful lines on the floor, Alexciia hoop dances, holding three hula hoops spread across her back like wings.

The narrator asks, READY TO MEET ALEXCIIA?

[Alexciia laughing, screaming]

At the playground, Alexciia slides down a slide.

The narrator says, LET'S GO.

[Slide whistle, birds chirping, raven cawing, wings flapping, upbeat music plays]

Photographs of children hang on an animated clothesline in front of animated foothills, mountains, and the sun. Raven, an animated raven, perches on the line and then flies to the title.

Title: “Raven’s Quest.”

[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]

In the playground, Alexciia wears her winter clothes, including grey snowpants and mittens.

Alexciia says, OKI. HI. MY NAME'S ALEXCIIA. I'M 9 YEARS OLD. I'M BLACKFOOT FROM THE PIIKANI NATION.

[Rustling, slide whistles]

On a map of Canada, a circle indicates the location of Calgary in the province of Alberta.

Alexciia narrates, I LIVE IN CALGARY, ALBERTA. MY PEOPLE CALL THIS PLACE MOHKINSTSIS, OR WHERE TWO RIVERS MEET IN CALGARY.

In front of a building, Alexciia holds her arms out and smiles.

Alexciia says, THIS IS MY SCHOOL, THE NIITSITAPI LEARNING CENTRE. IT'S A PLACE FOR LEARNING FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLE.

Alexciia leans against the buffalo statue and puts her hand on the buffalo's head. Text on the pedestal beneath the statue reads, “Niitsitapi.”

Alexciia says, THIS IS IINII THE SACRED BUFFALO. EVERY MORNING WE HUG HIM WHEN WE COME IN. YEAH.

[Upbeat music continues, slide whistle]

Alexciia leans her cheek against Iinii’s side and closes her eyes. Inside the school, Alexciia stands in a wooden rotunda with windows near the top of the two-storey room. Outside the windows, an animated sun wearing sunglasses moves across the sky. Raven appears and smiles.

Alexciia says, WE HAVE THESE COOL WINDOWS IN OUR SCHOOL AND WE CAN ATTRACT THE SUN. EAST IS WHERE IT RISES, AND WEST IT'S LIKE WHERE IT SETS. IT'S LIKE MAGIC.

[Slide whistle, background children speaking]

In the rotunda, Alexciia holds a sign that reads, “Natoosi.”

Alexciia says, THE BLACKFOOT WORD FOR SUN IS NATOOSI.

[Drumming, singing]

Alexciia wears a sun medallion on a leather cord and a yellow dress with rolled metal on the tassels near the hem of the skirt. In the rotunda, she dances with a floral scarf wrapped around her right wrist. A woman with long, dark brown hair plays a hand drum.

Alexciia says, TODAY I'M WEARING MY MEDALLION AND IT REPRESENTS THE SUN. THIS IS NATOOSI AND I WEAR A JINGLE DRESS. THE JINGLES ARE MADE OUT OF ROLLED-UP METAL. THE CONES ON THE DRESS MAKES A PRETTY JINGLE SOUND. IT REPRESENTS THE WATER. THE WATER'S SACRED TO US. WHEN I JINGLE DANCE I FEEL CLOSE TO MY ANCESTORS. WHEN I DANCE, I THINK ABOUT MY MOM AND MY AUNTIE. THEY'RE GONE TO THE SPIRIT WORLD BUT THEY'RE STILL CLOSE IN MY HEART.

[Slide whistle, gentle music plays]

Alexciia stands beside a shelf of plants beneath a row of lights. Text reads, “Medicine garden.”

Alexciia says, THIS IS OUR GARDEN. IT'S A MEDICINE GARDEN. WE DO SAGE AND TOBACCO IN THERE AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT PLANTS. WE USE SAGE FOR SMUDGING. IT'S KINDA LIKE PRAYING.

Alexciia waves her hands through the smoke from a smudge bowl with burning sage.

Alexciia narrates, THE SAGE, WHEN YOU PRAY WITH IT, IT LIKE TAKES AWAY THE NEGATIVE ENERGY AWAY FROM YOU. IT'S LIKE A SUPERHERO THING.

[Upbeat music plays, slide whistles]

On the playground, Alexciia stands with her arms around a younger boy who wears a black snow-covered beanie, a grey jacket, and a scarf. A blonde-haired girl wears a black coat with a faux fur trim around the hood stands on her other side.

Alexciia says, TODAY I HAVE MY FRIEND IZZY AND MY BROTHER DREYTIN. LET'S GO PLAY.

[Slide whistle]

They run to the playground equipment. Alexciia and Izzy climb up a chain ladder while Dreytin lies at the top of the slide.

Alexciia says, IZZY IS MY BEST FRIEND BECAUSE SHE TAKES CARE OF ME AND SHE'S ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS.

Dreytin slides down the slide.

Alexciia says, NOW THERE'S ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF US.

[Screaming, laughing]

Alexciia and Izzy lie at the top of the slide and go down headfirst.

Alexciia narrates, AND WHEN WE GROW UP, THIS IS OUR GOAL. THAT WE'LL LIVE TOGETHER. IT'S LIKE BEST FRIEND LIVE TOGETHER.

[Wind gusting]

Alexciia speaks directly into a camera. Text reads, “Alexciia cam.”

Alexciia says, I'M GOING DOWN. DOWN THE SLIDE. 3. 2. 1. GO!

[Laughing, screaming, scraping]

[Laughing, Dreytin shouting, Alexciia screaming]

Izzy slides headfirst down a twisting slide. Dreytin and Alexciia slide down on their bottoms. At the bottom of the slide, Dreytin throws snow at Alexciia.

Alexciia says, LIKE DREYTIN'S THE BOY VERSION OF ME. I LIKE MY BROTHER BECAUSE HE'S REALLY PLAYFUL AND WE ALWAYS PLAY HIDE 'N' SEEK AND STUFF. IT'S LIKE REALLY FUN.

Izzy and Alexciia make snow angels.

Alexciia narrates, I LOVE MAKING SNOW ANGELS WITH IZZY AND DEYTIN IN THE WINTER.

[Slide whistles, Alexciia laughing]

Raven appears, and sunglasses drop from their forehead to their eyes.

Alexciia narrates, IT'S FUN. WINTER'S MY FAVOURITE SEASON.

[Panting, laughing]

Alexciia and Izzy climb to the top of a rope ladder.

Alexciia says, I'M UP ON THE TIPPY TOP.

Izzy says, TAG, YOU'RE IT.

[Screaming]

Izzy tags Dreytin, and she and Alexciia run away.

[Slide whistle, gentle music plays]

Alexciia stands on the snow in front of a brown split-level house with white trim.

Alexciia says, THIS IS MY HOUSE. COME ON IN.

[Footsteps pattering, door opening, closing, slide whistle]

In a dining room, Alexciia sits at a table with a woman who has dark brown hair pulled away from her face. She wears a black blouse. On a table in front of them are tape, scissors, and three blue hula hoops. Text reads, “Grandma Stephanie.”

Alexciia says, I HAVE MY GRANDMA HERE. MY GRANDMA STEPHANIE AND WE'RE GONNA MAKE HOOPS TOGETHER. WE ARE MAKING THESE BEFORE WE GO DANCING.

Alexciia winds the tape around parts of the hula hoop while Grandma Stephanie cuts the tape.

Alexciia narrates, YOU NEED HULA HOOPS LIKE NORMAL HULA HOOPS. THEN YOU NEED TAPE.

Alexciia says, YOU THINK THAT LOOKS GOOD?

Alexciia narrates, THE HOOPS REPRESENT THE CIRCLE OF LIFE. HOOPS CAN BE WHITE, YELLOW AND RED OR BLUE. THEY REPRESENT THE FOUR DIRECTIONS, AND THE BLUE IS THE WEST.

[Popping]

A compass face graphic appears, and the W changes from black to blue.

Alexciia continues, THE WHITE ON THE HOOPS ARE FOR DECORATION.

Alexciia holds up the hoop.

Alexciia says, THAT'S HOW IT LOOKS LIKE NOW, BUT WE HAVE A LOT MORE TO DO.

[Giggling]

Alexciia says, I NEED ONE RIGHT HERE.

[Background talking]

Alexciia narrates, HOOPS ARE MY FAVOURITE CRAFT.

Alexciia says, WE DID IT. THEY LOOK REALLY NICE.

[Slide whistles]

Grandma Stephanie picks up the hoops. Raven appears and gives a thumbs up.

Grandma Stephanie says, THEY DO.

Alexciia says, HOMEMADE.

[Slide whistle, gentle music continues]

Alexciia stands in a pink bedroom beside a bed. Beside her, a toddler plays with a pink and white doll house.

Alexciia says, THIS IS MY ROOM AND YOU CAN SEE MY DOLLHOUSE RIGHT HERE. THIS IS MY LITTLE SISTER KALI. SHE'S 3 YEARS OLD.

[Slide whistle]

Alexciia sits on the bed and plays with the ears on a pink bunny stuffy. Text reads, “Snuffle Bunny.” A dream catcher with a red ribbon and an eagle feather hangs on the wall by Alexciia’s bed.

Alexciia says, THIS IS MY LITTLE BUNNY. I HAD HIM ONCE I WAS BORN, AND HE'S CALLED SNUFFLE BUNNY. THIS IS A DREAM CATCHER THAT MY MOM MADE AND I LIKE THE DREAM CATCHER BECAUSE, WELL, IT TAKES AWAY MY BAD DREAMS. THERE'S AN EAGLE FEATHER THERE. THE EAGLE REPRESENTS LOVE IN MY CULTURE.

[Chiming, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]

Animated hearts appear. In live-action, Alexciia stands beside Grandma Stephanie in the kitchen. Red checkmarks appear beside ingredients on a checklist as Alexciia lists them. Grandma Stephanie stirs the dry ingredients in the bowl in the sink.

Alexciia narrates, SO ME AND GRANDMA ARE MAKING FRY BREAD, AND WE NEED SALT, SUGAR AND BAKING POWDER AND FLOUR. WE PUT ALL THOSE INGREDIENTS IN. PUT IT IN WARM WATER.

Grandma Stephanie adds water to the bowl and Alexciia stirs the ingredients.

YOU MIX IT AROUND WITH A LITTLE SPOON OR SOMETHING.

Grandma Stephanie says, THERE YOU GO.

Alexciia narrates, YOU PUT SOME FLOUR ON IT TO MAKE IT NOT THAT STICKY.

[Alexciia singing]

Alexciia kneads the dough in the bowl.

Grandma Stephanie says, GOOD JOB.

Alexciia puts a ball of dough on a plate with flour. She shapes the dough into a flat circle with a hole in the centre.

Alexciia narrates, AND YOU ROLL IT UP IN A BALL. YOU FLATTEN IT SO WHEN YOU OPEN IT IT'S LIKE REALLY SOFT ON THE TOP BUT WHEN YOU LIKE FULLY OPEN IT IT'S LIKE STICKY IN THE INSIDE.

[Oil sizzling]

Alexciia narrates, YOU NEED AN ADULT TO PUT THE DOUGH IN THE OIL. FRY BREAD IS A TRADITIONAL SNACK, AND YOU CAN PUT A LOT OF TOPPINGS ON YOUR FRY BREAD.

Grandma Stephanie turns a piece of fry bread over.

Grandma Stephanie says, WHOA! LIKE PEANUT BUTTER. BUTTER. JAM. MEATLOAF.

[Slide whistle, Alexciia giggling]

In an animation, a piece of meatloaf looks at the finished fry bread and gives a thumbs-up.

Alexciia says, LOOK WHAT WE MADE. IT'S FRY BREAD.

[Background squeaking, Grandma Stephanie chuckling]

Alexciia eats a piece of fry bread.

Alexciia nods and says, DELICIOUS.

[Rhythmic music plays, singing]

In the room with colourful lines on the floor, Alexciia wears a ribbon skirt, her sun medallion, and a black shirt. She hoop dances with each leg through a hoop.

Alexciia narrates, I AM A HOOP DANCER AND I REALLY LIKE TO DANCE A LOT. AND WHEN I FEEL WHEN I DO IT, IT'S LIKE ONE OF THE BEST THINGS IN MY LIFE. I FEEL HAPPY WHEN I DO HOOP DANCING.

Alexciia dances over the lines on the floor, which form a drawing of an eagle with their wings spread.

Alexciia narrates, IT REMINDS ME OF ANIMALS I LIKE. I FEEL SAFE BECAUSE MY ANCESTORS ARE WATCHING OVER ME. MY FAVOURITE MOVE IS THE FLYING EAGLE.

Alexciia dances and spins with the three hula hoops linked behind her back.

Alexciia narrates, I PUT THREE HOOPS BEHIND MY BACK AND IT BECOMES THE EAGLE. I MOVE MY ARMS LIKE THE EAGLE'S WINGS. WELL, EAGLES ARE REALLY COOL AND THEY'RE REALLY HARD TO FIND AND IT'S LIKE ONE OF THE EASIEST THINGS YOU COULD DO WITH THE HOOPS. I REALLY LOVE MY EAGLE MOVE BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE I COULD FLY.

[Slide whistle, flapping]

In a classroom, Alexciia stands with six classmates. Raven appears and flies away.

Alexciia says, I HOPE YOU LIKED YOUR VISIT TO CALGARY. GET-DAH-MA-SIN.

The children say, SEE YOU LATER.

[Birds chirping, upbeat music plays, wings flapping, raven cawing]
