[Rain pitters, light music plays, wipers squeak, clunk]
DESCRIPTION: On a rainy day, Rosie sits in the back seat of her car, wearing her raincoat and hat, as Papa parks it in the driveway. She watches the windshield wipers move.
ROSIE: Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish!
[Papa speaks Spanish, rain pitters]
ROSIE: Nada. Empanada. Rosie's Rule. Sometimes when the windshield wipers swish, your head swishes too. Windshield wipers are so much fun to watch.
[Papa speaks Spanish]
PAPA: And they help us get home safely by swishing away the rain. I think they're one of the greatest inventions.
[Light music plays, click, rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Papa unfastens Rosie’s seatbelt, and she slides out of her booster seat.
ROSIE: Me too! Um, what's an invention?
[Upbeat music plays, footsteps rustle, rain pitters]
DESCRIPTION: Papa holds an umbrella as he and Rosie walk to the porch.
PAPA: An invention is something that someone created that didn't exist before. We use those inventions to help us every day. Like umbrellas. Someone invented them so people didn't get wet in the rain.
[Boots rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie wipes her rain boots on the doormat.
ROSIE: Oh! And someone invented doormats so we can wipe off our wet feet.
[Papa chuckles]
PAPA: Exacto!
[Door opens, umbrella rustles, closes]

PAPA: And someone invented lightbulbs.
[Click, both grunt, Papa chuckles]
DESCRIPTION: Papa turns off the light, and he and Rosie bump into each other.
PAPA: So we don't bump into each other in the dark.
[Both laugh, click]
DESCRIPTION: Papa turns on the light, and he and Rosie bump into each other.
ROSIE: So many wow-mazing inventions.
[Papa speaks Spanish, light music plays]
PAPA: And the people made all of these wow-mazing inventions are called inventors.
[Triumphant music plays]
ROSIE: Maybe I can invent something. I'll be Rosie the Inventor!
[Papa speaks Spanish]
PAPA: You would be a fantastic inventor!
ROSIE: Gracias.
[Water drips]

PAPA: But before you invent anything, can you please take off your raincoat? It's dripping all over the floor.
[Rosie giggles, coat rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Papa helps Rosie take off her coat.
ROSIE: Okay. I wonder what super-tastical things I can invent? I've gotta know!
[Energetic music plays]
ROSIE SINGS: I have a great big question, and I just can't let it go.
[Sings in Spanish]
ROSIE SINGS: I really gotta know.
ROSIE: What should I invent? Maybe—
[Bicycle bell rings, energetic music continues, rustle, slide whistle, bounces boing, robot beeps]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie imagines a sheep riding a bicycle. The sheep lies down and sleeps on the bicycle. Rosie bounces on a pink machine as it launches rainbow-striped clothes into a box. Near the box, a robot with a colourful disco ball-shaped body dances.
ROSIE SINGS: I'll invent a Bicicleta for a sheep that turns into a bed where you can go to sleep. A bouncing machine that makes rainbow clothes. And disco robot that sings really loud.
[The music ends]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. Rosie does the robot dance in front of the couch.
ROSIE SINGS, ROBOTICALLY: Disco robot!
[Triumphant music plays]
ROSIE: Guess what, Gatita! I'm Rosie the Inventor.
[Gatita meows, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Gatita lies on a bench in the foyer.
ROSIE: I'm going to invent something super cool-a-madoodle. Something that no one has ever thought of before. Hmm. That's it!
DESCRIPTION: Rosie stands in front of the couch cushions covered with throw pillows.
ROSIE: Presenting my new invention. The Comfy Madoodle!
[Rustle, Gatita meows, purrs, soft music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie falls back on the pillows. Gatita jumps into her arms, and they snuggle.
[The music stops, whoosh]
ROSIE: Wait a second-madoodle!
DESCRIPTION: Gatita runs away. Rosie sits up on her couch cushions on the floor in front of the couch.
ROSIE: My Comfy Madoodle looks just like a couch, and that's already been invented.
[Gatita meows, door opens, light music plays]
MOM SHOUTS: I'm home from the grocery store!
MOM: Hi, Rosie Posey.
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie and Gatita run to the kitchen as her mom takes a tub of ice cream out of a bag.
MOM: Uh-oh. This ice cream is already starting to melt.
[Rosie gasps, light music plays]
ROSIE: That's it, Gatita! I can make an invention that keeps ice cream from getting melty! Like, like! Uh!
[Freezer door clicks, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie’s mom kneels and puts the ice cream in the freezer at the bottom of the refrigerator. Rosie’s shoulders slump.
ROSIE: Freezer. Already invented.
[She groans, Gatita meows, light music plays]

ROSIE: Ah-ha! What about something to eat cereal with? Something long with a circle at the end.
[Spoon clinks]
DESCRIPTION: Gatita picks up a spoon and drops it on the table.
ROSIE: Oh.
[She sighs]
ROSIE: I need an invention that comes up with inventions.
[Bowl clangs]
DESCRIPTION: By the counter, Gatita tips her empty food bowl.
ROSIE: Aw! Are you hungry, Gatita?
[Gatita meows, bag rustles, Rosie gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Gatita points at her mouth. Rosie grabs a bag of cat food, tips it, and then lifts it without pouring.
ROSIE: Mamma macaroni! I've got the best invention idea ever!
[Slide whistle, Gatita meows, bowl clatters]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie leaves with the bag of food. Gatita leans with her mouth open and falls face-first into the empty food bowl.
[Upbeat music plays, dominoes thump, kibble rattles, bowl clinks]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie places a line of dominoes on the kitchen floor. She hangs a pot on a peg on a spinning wheel and fills it with dry cat food. She places the last domino at the end of the row and puts a red toy car behind it. She puts the bowl on the feeding mat and places the spinning wheel beside it. She leans a book on a teddy bear in front of the bowl.
[Shoes squeak, majestic notes play, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie slides across the kitchen floor to Gatita, who stands at the beginning of the dominoes. Rosie gestures at the row of dominoes, the red car pointed at a button on the base of the spinning wheel, the leaning book, and the bowl.
ROSIE: Presenting! The Cat Food-a-Madoodle! A brand-new invention where kitty cats can feed themselves.
[Gatita meows]
ROSIE: Adelante, Gatita! Try it.
[Gatita meows, light music plays, dominoes clink, car whirrs, button clicks, squeaking, confused meow, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Gatita knocks over a domino, and the line falls, pushing the toy car to the button. The wheel spins, and the pot hits the edge of the book.
ROSIE: Huh?
[Whirrs, bang, food rattles]
DESCRIPTION: The spinner bangs the pot against the book and falls apart. Dry cat food spills on the floor.
ROSIE: Well, that didn't work! Good thing someone invented the broom.
[Broom rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie sweeps the spilled cat food. Her mom arrives with the bag of cat food and steps over the broken spinning wheel.
MOM: Oh, what happened here?
[Gatita meows, cat food rattles, light music notes play, Rosie sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie’s mom pours cat food into the bowl.
ROSIE: I need to call Abuela.
[Tablet chimes, birds sing]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie sits at the table with a tablet. She pushes the Abuela icon, and Abuela appears on the screen. Behind her, petals fall from Jacaranda trees.
ROSIE: Hola, Abuela!
ABUELA: Hola, Rosalia!
ROSIE: Are those purple trees?
[Abuela chuckles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Abuela turns her device and gestures at two girls playing with falling petals beneath a tree.
ABUELA: Si! These are Jacaranda trees. Lili and Vero just love to look at them. Que pasa?
ROSIE: I'm Rosie the Inventor, and I just invented the Cat Food-a-Madoodle.
[Birds sing, cheerful notes play]
ABUELA: Que bien!
ROSIE: But it didn't work.
[Disappointed music notes play]
ABUELA: Que mal.
ROSIE: Now, I don't know what else to invent.
[Abuela speaks Spanish, light music plays]
ABUELA: Most inventions solve a problem, so if you find a problem, you can invent something to solve it.
[Abuela gasps]
ABUELA: Hey! Where did my friends go?
[Abuela laughs]
ABUELA: Adios.
[Abuela and Rosie speak Spanish, tablet chimes, light music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Abuela and Rosie wave at each other, then Rosie ends the call. She leaves the tablet on the table and walks to where Gatita drinks from her water bowl.
ROSIE: Bien, Gatita! I need to find a problem.
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Papa strolls past Rosie and Gatita.
ROSIE: Papa! Do you have a problem?
PAPA: Oh! Actually, yes. I can't decide what to have for lunch.
ROSIE: Wahoo!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie twirls, then dances with Gatita.
ROSIE SINGS: Oh, yeah! Mi Papa has a problem! Oh, yeah!
PAPA: Ah!
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie and Gatita stop dancing.
PAPA: I decide to have this torta. Problem solved. Mmm!
ROSIE: Oh. Rosie's Rule. Sometimes your Papa solves his problem before you can solve it. Hmm.
[Gasps, light music plays]
ROSIE: Maybe there's a problem outside. I'm going on the porch to find a problem!
PAPA: Adios!
[Rain pitters]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie walks to the porch steps and puts her hands on her hips.
ROSIE: Hmm.
[Grass rustles, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Beside the porch, Jun stands on the grass. He wears a raincoat, carries an umbrella and a magnifying glass, and has a camera on a strap slung over his shoulder.
ROSIE: Hi, Jun!
[Rain pitters, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: They wave at each other.
JUN: Hi, Rosie!
ROSIE: What are you doing?
JUN: I'm looking for worms and bugs, and snails. They always come out in the rain.
[Light music plays]
ROSIE: I love worms and bugs and snails.
JUN: Me too! I even have a magnifying glass to see them up close. And a camera to take their picture. Want to help me look?
ROSIE: Well, I'm kind of in the middle of being an inventor…
[Jun exclaims, grunts, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Jun drops his magnifying glass and picks it up. He shifts the camera.
ROSIE: And I really need to find a problem to solve, so I wish I could look for worms and bugs and snails.
[Wind whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: The umbrella blows out of Jun’s hand, and he chases it.
JUN: Ah!
ROSIE: Jun, are you okay?
JUN: I can't hold everything I need with only two hands.
[Rosie gasps, light music plays, rain pitters]
ROSIE: That sounds like a big problem.
JUN: It really is.
[Thud]
DESCRIPTION: Jun drops his camera and picks it up.
ROSIE: Stay right there, Jun. I'm gonna make an invention to solve your problem.
[Wind whooshes, umbrella rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Jun staggers backwards as the wind fills his umbrella.
JUN: Whoa!
[Cheerful music plays, pencil scratches, tape screeches, tape tears]
DESCRIPTION: Inside, Rosie draws an umbrella, a magnifying glass, and a camera in a notepad. She draws a ball cap. Between the four items, she draws tape and arrows pointing from everything to the ball cap. She pulls tape off a roll and tapes straws upright on the ball cap.
[Triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, Rosie stands on the porch steps wearing her invention. The straws on the ball cap hold a small umbrella over her head, a camera is taped to the visor, and she wears a magnifying glass like a monocle over one eye.
ROSIE: Tah-dah! Presenting…
DESCRIPTION: Rosie jumps off the porch steps, lands, tips forward, and rights herself.
ROSIE: Whoa! The Bug-a-Madoodle!
[The music stops, rain pitters]
JUN: The Bug-a-Madoodle?
[Light music plays]
ROSIE: Yes! It's my newest invention, and it will solve your problem! A magnifying glass to look at worm and bug friends, a camera for pictures of snail friends, and an umbrella to keep the rain off of people friends. Whoa! It's a little wobbly.
DESCRIPTION: Rosie moves from foot to foot, looking up at her invention.
ROSIE: Whoa. Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Falling!
[Thump, rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie falls on the bottom step and catches her ball cap. She smiles.
ROSIE: Ah!
[Thump, Rosie groans]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie stops smiling as everything falls off the ball cap. She drops the ball cap and paces on the porch.
ROSIE: I finally found a problem to solve, but now my invention's not working and-- I need to flop.
[Thump]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie flops onto the doormat.
ROSIE: Breathe in.
[Inhales, light music plays]
ROSIE: Breathe out.
[Exhales, rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie wiggles.
ROSIE: Wiggle about.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie stands.
ROSIE: Now, I'm ready to figure this out.
[Rosie speaks Spanish, the music stops, footsteps rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie walks across the porch.
ROSIE: What are you doing?
[Rain pitters, footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie walks down the steps to Jun.
JUN: I'm gonna keep trying to find worms and bugs and snails. They've gotta be here somewhere.
[Jun grunts]
DESCRIPTION: Jun balances his equipment and walks away from Rosie. She picks up the ball cap.
[Upbeat music plays]
ROSIE: Hmm. Keep trying? That's what I'm gonna do too! I'm gonna keep trying with my invention.
DESCRIPTION: In the house, Rosie holds her notepad and scribbles over the ball cap and puts an X over the tape. She draws a helmet. Rosie loops a bungee cord around a yellow helmet, holding five straws upright. Later, outside, Jun takes a picture of an inchworm on a leaf.
JUN: I found another one! Smile, little wormy!
[Camera shutter snaps]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie and Jun each wear a helmet with a camera attached to the front and an umbrella overhead. Both wear a magnifying glass as a monocle.
JUN: The Bug-a-Madoodle is the best invention ever!
ROSIE: Thanks, Jun! I'm glad I made two. Because now we can look together.
[Rosie gasps, rain pitters]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie looks at a snail on a bush.
ROSIE: A snail! Hola, caracolito! Aw!
[Camera shutter snaps]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie takes a picture of the snail.
[Chimes, lively music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In space, stars twinkle around the Earth. On a hilltop, Rosie looks through a telescope, then twirls. She holds a remote with a button in the centre, and a red-and-white rocket rests on a stand nearby. She pushes the button and the rocket blasts off. In a montage, she watches the windshield wipers and uses two potatoes to light a lightbulb.
ROSIE SINGS: Look around the world. At wow-mazing things inventors made. Like windshield wipers and lightbulbs that glow. Maybe one day you can say…
ROSIE: I'm an inventor!
DESCRIPTION: Iggy points up at a toy axolotl on a tree branch. Rosie puts a scissor lift table in the wagon and adds a pillow on top. She pulls the lever, and the table rises. It bumps the branch, and the axolotl toy falls onto the pillow. Rosie lowers it to the wagon, and she and Iggy hug around the wagon. She imagines two mechanical arms. One puts toothpaste on a brush, and the other brushes her Papa’s teeth. Rosie puts on a helmet and pushes a button on the side. A blue umbrella opens on top. A projector shows an image of a snail and glasses lower in front of her eyes. Rosie jumps on the pillow in the wagon, and it lifts her. She floats down, wearing the helmet with the open umbrella.
ROSIE SINGS: Think of a brand-new idea, Un problema that needs to be solved. You try and try until you succeed. A good invention can be something big or small. Los inventos can make life easier. Like an automatic squeeze-a-tube and tooth brusher. Dream as big as you can. Imagine what you can make. And one day you can say I'm an inventor and one day you can say I'm an inventor. Hey! Hey! Hey!
[Bird chirps, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In Rosie’s yard, Jun stands in a puddle on the front walkway.
JUN: Rosie! Some splash with me!
[Water splashes]
DESCRIPTION: Jun jumps in the puddle.
ROSIE: Rosie's Rule! It's fun being an inventor and inventing new things, but even inventors have to take a break to splash in puddles.
[Both giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Rosie and Jun jump in the puddle.
ROSIE: Splash!
JUN: Splash!
ROSIE: Splash!
[Both giggle]
[Upbeat music plays]
