A round purple creature with four arms and a big smile walks behind a desk. Graphs, small “Vote” flags, and a cup of coffee are laid on the desk. A purple banner near a bookshelf reads “Democracy”.

A television hung on a wall is turned on. It reads “Scoops’ School of Democracy” in pink and green letters.

Scoops, the purple creature, stands up from behind the desk. The television screen now reads “Ontario Elections 2022”.

Scoops says,
HEY!
I'M SCOOPS, AND TODAY WE'RE
GOING TO TALK ABOUT VOTING.
MORE SPECIFICALLY, HOW YOU CAST
YOUR VOTE OR BALLOT.
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD
A GROWN-UP SAY
THEY'RE GOING TO GO VOTE?
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHERE
THEY'RE GOING
AND WHAT HAPPENS?
WONDER NO LONGER.

On the television screen, people stand in lines and look at their phones in a school gym.

Scoops continues,
MAYBE YOU'VE BEEN AT
SCHOOL AND SEEN YOUR
SCHOOL GYM LOOK LIKE THIS,
FILLED WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE
WAITING IN LINES.
THESE PEOPLE ARE ALL HERE TO DO
THEIR CIVIL DUTY AND VOTE.
I'VE PUT TOGETHER A SHORT
RE-ENACTMENT.
LET'S WATCH.
VOTING TYPICALLY INVOLVES
WAITING IN A LINE
UNTIL YOU GET TO SPEAK TO AN
ELECTION OFFICIAL.

An election official standing at a table hands Scoops a ballot. The election official wears a patterned white collared shirt and glasses. Tattoos run up her arms from her elbows. Her red hair rests on her shoulders.

Scoops says,
THE ELECTION OFFICIAL WILL
VERIFY YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION
AND HAND YOU YOUR BALLOT.
ONCE YOU RECEIVED YOUR BALLOT,
YOU'LL WALK OVER TO THE
VOTING SCREEN.

Scoops walks behind a voting screen and looks down at the ballot while holding a pencil.

Scoops adds,
THE VOTING SCREEN IS THERE TO
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PRIVACY
WHEN CASTING YOUR VOTE
TO MAKE SURE ONLY
YOU CAN SEE WHO
YOU'RE VOTING FOR.
ONCE YOU CAREFULLY
READ THE BALLOT,
SELECT WHO YOU'RE
VOTING FOR AND MARK
INSIDE THE CIRCLE WITH AN X.

Scoops walks to a white cardboard box with the number 39 on it. Scoops inserts the ballot in the box.

Scoops says,
THEN, BRING YOUR
FOLDED BALLOT BACK TO THE
ELECTION REPRESENTATIVE
WHO WILL DIRECT YOU TO
PLACE YOUR BALLOT IN A
CONFIDENTIAL BOX.

Scoops raises their four hands over their head while they wear a blue sticker that reads “I Voted”.

Scoops cheers,
WOO-HOO! VOTE CAST.

Scoops sits at the desk in front of the television.

Scoops says,
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT.
NOT ONLY IS EXERCISING YOUR
RIGHT TO VOTE IMPORTANT,
IT'S ALSO REWARDING TO
KNOW YOUR VOICE HAS
THE POWER TO
MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
