Two brains navigate a maze, chomping on a variety of things including a stack of books, tire, and baseball. The brains meet in the centre of the maze and form one large brain. A banner wraps around the brain. A person announces the title that appears on the banner.

They say, HUNGRY BRAIN!

[Funky music plays]

An animated person with a computer as a head rides a bicycle.

A narrator says, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE,
OR A.I.,
ALLOWS COMPUTERS
TO LEARN HOW
TO PERFORM TASKS
BY THEMSELVES,
WITHOUT BEING
PROGRAMMED DIRECTLY.

An animated person with a computer as a head runs with a soccer ball.

The narrator continues, A BIT LIKE A CHILD FIGURING OUT
A NEW GAME BY,
WELL, PLAYING IT.

An animated person with a computer as a head writes on a piece of paper.

The narrator says, HERE'S THE TOP
ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

A title reads, The Top on Artificial Intelligence.

[Dinging]

Text appears.

The narrator reads, NUMBER THREE,
LEARNING BY REPETITION.

An animated brown cat’s tail moves.

[Cat meowing]

The narrator says, A SEARCH ENGINE,
LIKE GOOGLE,
USES ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
TO WORK.
THIS IS HOW IT'S ABLE TO
SUGGEST THOUSANDS OF IMAGES
OF CATS WHEN YOU TYPE
THE WORD "CAT."
THESE IMAGES WERE NEVER
LABELLED "CAT" BY HUMANS.
THE POWERFUL COMPUTERS AT
GOOGLE HAVE LEARNED
BY THEMSELVES TO RECOGNIZE
THESE KITTIES,
AFTER SEEING MILLIONS
OF THEM.
BIG ONES,
SMALL ONES, BLACK ONES,
SPOTTY ONES, GINGER ONES,
AND WHITE ONES.

Different types of cats appear around the brown one.

The narrator continues, UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO
IDENTIFY A COMMON PATTERN
TO ALL THOSE IMAGES:
THAT A CAT IS FURRY,
HAS FOUR LEGS,
AND A TAIL.

Lines and shapes show the common pattern of a cat.

[Growling]

An animation of a cat-like creature with drooping eyes and sharp claws appears.

The narrator says, WHAT THE –
LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING
THE CAT DRAGGED IN!
A.I. STILL NEEDS
A LOT OF WORK.

[Dinging]

Text appears.

The narrator reads, NUMBER TWO,
IT NEEDS A LOT OF DATA.

[Computer whirring]

An animated person wearing a white shirt has a computer as a head.

The narrator says, IN ORDER TO DEVELOP,
A.I. REQUIRES
HUGE QUANTITIES OF DATA,
A.K.A. MEGADATA.
AND WHERE DOES THIS DATA
COME FROM?

A question mark appears on the computer screen.

The narrator says, MILLIONS OF BOOKS,
ARTICLES, AND FILMS HAVE BEEN
UPLOADED ON THE INTERNET.
ON TOP OF ALL THE INFORMATION
GENERATED BY HUNDREDS
OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE
TEXT MESSAGING,
OR UPLOADING PHOTOS
ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

An animation of a person with an animal head on appears on the screen.

The narrator says, WHAT?!
YEAH, THAT IS ME,
DRESSED UP AS A MASCOT.
WHAT DO YOU WANNA
SHOW THAT FOR?
PUTTING THAT IN THE TRASH.

[Dinging]

Text appears.

The narrator reads, NUMBER ONE,
IT ALLOWS A SMALL ROBOT
TO BEHAVE LIKE A CHILD.

An animated robot with arms, legs and a face appears.

The narrator says, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
HAS ALLOWED THE ICUB ROBOT
TO BEHAVE LIKE
A LITTLE KID.
WHY?
ICUB WAS DESIGNED TO BE
A COMPANION FOR CHILDREN WITH
AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER,
AND SICK CHILDREN
IN HOSPITALS.
THE ROBOT IS THE SIZE OF
A FIVE-YEAR-OLD CHILD.
JUST LIKE A KID,
IT CAN MOVE,
AND CRAWL ABOUT,
AND IS ABLE TO TOUCH HUMAN
BEINGS EVER SO DELICATELY.

The robot crawls.

The narrator says, IT CAN ALSO TALK,
AND POINT AT VARIOUS OBJECTS.
ITS SURFACE IS COVERED
WITH SENSORS,
SO IT'S ALSO EQUIPPED
WITH A SENSE OF TOUCH.

An animated butterfly lands on the robot’s hand.

The narrator continues, BY EQUIPPING COMPUTERS
WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE,
SCIENTISTS WANT TO GO
EVER FURTHER,
AND MAKE THEM PERFORM TASKS
ONCE THOUGHT TO BE
RESERVED FOR US HUMANS.

The computer of the animated person writing on a piece of paper shows gears turning.

The narrator says, LIKE,
HOMEWORK, FOR EXAMPLE?

A hand appears on the animated person’s computer and shakes their finger.

The narrator says, OH, C'MON, THAT WAS AN
INTELLIGENT SUGGESTION!
