Two brains navigate a maze, chomping on a variety of things including a stack of books, tire, and baseball. The brains meet in the centre of the maze and form one large brain. A banner wraps around the brain. A person announces the title that appears on the banner.
They say, HUNGRY BRAIN!
An animated submarine navigates dark waters.
A narrator says, CAPTAIN!
I LOST MY WATCH DOWN THAT
CRACK IN THE SEABED.
WHAT TIME IS IT?
An animated man and woman ride in the submarine.
The woman says, IT'S TIME YOU STOPPED
BEING SO CARELESS.
The man says, AWH. I'M GONNA HAVE
TO ASK YOU EVERY TIME
I WANT TO KNOW WHEN THE
CARTOONS ARE ON.
The woman says, NOT ON MY WATCH.
THAT CRACK LEADS TO THE DEEPEST
PLACE IN THE OCEAN.
FILL THE BALLAST TANK!
The man narrates, HERE'S THE TOP ON
THE MIDNIGHT ZONE.
A title reads, Top on the Midnight Zone.
The man continues, ALSO KNOW AS "THE ABYSS,"
THIS AREA BEGINS AT
A DEPTH OF 4,000 METRES,
AND REACHES DOWN TO THE
OCEANIC CRUST.
A monitor on the submarine control panel reads, 4,000m.
The man adds, THERE'S NO LIGHT THERE,
SO MOST LIVING THINGS
ARE BLIND AND ALBINO.
THEIR SKIN AND SCALES ARE WHITE.
The monitor shows different white fish.
The woman says, TIME YOU STARTED
LOOKING FOR YOUR WATCH.
The man says, GIVE ME A MINUTE.
YOU'RE ON MY CASE AROUND THE
CLOCK, YOU KNOW THAT?
The woman narrates, NUMBER FOUR: BACTERIA.
The control panel monitor reads, 4.
[Beeping]
The woman narrates, THERE'S A LOT OF BACTERIA
IN THE OCEANIC ABYSS.
IN SOME SPOTS THEY CHOW DOWN ON
HYDROGEN SULFITE
RELEASED BY CRACKS IN
THE EARTH'S CRUST.
ALSO KNOWN AS
"BLACK SMOKERS."
The monitor shows colourful animated bacteria floating in back, smoke-like hydrogen sulfite.
The woman explains, THE BLACK SMOKE PROVIDES
ENERGY TO BACTERIA
THAT LIVE IN
SYMBIOSIS INSIDE
VARIOUS INVERTEBRATE ANIMALS.
An animated squid swims by the bacteria.
The man narrates, NUMBER THREE: ABYSSAL EELS.
The control panel monitor reads, 3.
[Beeping]
The man narrates, THIS STRANGE CREATURE
OF THE DEEP
CAN MEASURE UP TO
TWO METRES LONG,
AND IS ABLE TO SWALLOW FISH OR
SQUID AS BIG AS ITSELF
THANKS TO ITS ELASTIC STOMACH.
A large, animated eel is shown with an equally large fish and squid.
The woman narrates, NUMBER TWO: THE VIPER FISH.
The control panel monitor reads, 2.
[Beeping]
The woman narrates, THIS FREAKY FISHY WITH SHINY
FINS IS A CINCH TO RECOGNIZE.
IT HAS A VERY LARGE JAW LINED
WITH 1 CM LONG TEETH
ON A HEAD THAT'S
ONLY 2 CM IN SIZE.
The monitor shows sharp teeth of an animated green fish.
The woman continues, IT'S 20-35 CM LONG,
AND IT'S FAVOURITE
"NOM-NOMS" ARE SHRIMP,
OR ANYTHING SWIMMING NEARBY.
FOOD IS SCARCE IN THE
DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN,
SO THEY'RE NOT PICKY EATERS.
[Creaking]
In the submarine, the man says, WHAT?
ONE OF THEM'S TRYING
TO EAT OUR SUB?!
THIS IS A
PRETTY KETTLE OF FISH.
[Scratching]
The man narrates, NUMBER ONE:
BIVALVES.
[Beeping]
The control panel monitor reads, 1.
The man narrates, BIVALVES ARE A TYPE OF MOLLUSK.
THEY'RE COUSINS INCLUDE OYSTERS,
SCALLOPS AND CLAMS.
THEY'RE FOUND ALL
OVER THE WORLD
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEANS,
OFTEN BURIED TO HIDE
FROM PREDATORS.
THEY ALSO CLING ONTO
ROCKS OR TO BLACK SMOKERS
NEAR THE OCEANIC CRUST.
Animated bivalves are shown in the dark waters.
In the submarine, the man says, SO, THAT'S WHERE MY
WATCH WAS!
A BIVALVE GOT IT!
The woman says, WELL, IT'S ABOUT TIME.
The man says, HEY, BIVALVE, GIVE
THAT NICE SUBMARINER
BACK HIS WATCHY-POO.
TICKLE-TICKLE.
The woman says, MAYBE HE WANTS SECONDS.
The man says, BY TIME YOU
BUTTONED YOUR LIP.
The woman says, I'LL CLEAN YOUR CLOCK.
The man says, YOU'RE DONE
TICKING ME OFF!
The woman says, WATCH YOUR MOUTH!
The man says, YOU'RE A LAUGH A MINUTE.
The two submariners continue their journey.
