[Dex and Kayla roaring]
Dex and Kayla chase after different dinosaurs. In a park, they run from a dinosaur. In a community pool, a dinosaur jumps in the water.
[Dinosaur grunting]
[Splashing]
Green and purple crystals form the title among dinosaur fossils. Dex reads the title.

Dex sketches an ostrich foot in his Dino Field Guide. He and Kayla sit outside a large ostrich pen on a farm.
Dex says, THEY DO, BECAUSE OSTRICHES ARE ONE OF THE CLOSEST LIVING THINGS TO T-REXES.
[Ostriches chirping]
Kayla asks, REALLY?
Dex says, REALLY. PALEONTOLOGISTS TESTED T-REX BONES TO FIGURE IT OUT.
Dex points to sketches of a T-Rex and an ostrich in his field guide.
Kayla says, COOL!
Dex says, AND THESE OSTRICHES ARE GONNA HELP US SOLVE DINO EXPERIMENT 1016: WHAT DOES A T-REX REALLY SOUND LIKE?
Kayla says, BUT WE ALREADY KNOW. THEY ROAR, LIKE THIS: ROAR!
Dex says, THAT'S WHAT WE THINK WE KNOW. NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE WHAT DINOS SOUND LIKE. BUT WE'RE GONNA FIND OUT.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Kayla asks, WHY ARE THEY MAKING SO MUCH NOISE?
From close by, Saara says, HEY, RELAX, OSTRICHES. FOOD IS COMING.
In coveralls, Saara pushes a wheelbarrow over to the pen.
[Saara sighing]
Saara says, THEY'RE CHIRPING AND WHISTLING BECAUSE THAT'S HOW THEY COMMUNICATE. RIGHT NOW THEY'RE SAYING, "FEED US!"
Dex says, I WONDER IF T-REXES MAKE THE SAME NOISES.
Saara says, YOU KNOW, WHEN I PICKED A BIRD SANCTUARY FOR MY BIOLOGY CLASS INTERNSHIP, I THOUGHT I'D BE WORKING WITH SMALL BIRDS. ONES WITH SMALLER FEET. WHO DON'T TRY TO KICK ME.
[Ostriches chirping]
The ostriches run around their pen.
Kayla says, THANKS FOR INVITING US TO HANG OUT WITH THE OSTRICHES WHILE YOU WORK.
Saara says, OF COURSE! NO PROBLEM. HEY, BEFORE YOU GUYS DO WHATEVER DINO THING YOU'RE DOING, CHECK THIS OUT.
Saara takes a large egg out of the wheelbarrow. Dex looks shocked.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, AN OSTRICH EGG?
Saara nods.
[Saara giggling]
Dex says, IT’S HUGE!
Saara gives Dex the ostrich egg.
Kayla says, WHOA.
Saara says, OSTRICHES LAY THE BIGGEST EGG OF ANY BIRD IN THE WORLD. THEY'RE SO HARD YOU COULD STAND ON THEM.
Dex knocks on the egg.
[Knocking]
Saara says, YOU'D NEED A ROCK TO BREAK IT.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, ROCKS I GOT. CAN I TRY BREAKING IT?
Kayla grabs her rock collection box.
Saara says, UH-UH, UH-UH, UH-UH. NO WAY. OSTRICH EGGS NEED TO BE PROTECTED. THE MOM WILL SIT ON IT DURING THE DAY AND THE DAD WILL SIT ON IT AT NIGHT.
Kayla looks disappointed.
Dex says, THAT'S LIKE SOME DINOSAURS TOO!
Saara says, NEAT. OOPS, I DIDN'T BRING ENOUGH FEED FOR THEM. DO YOU MIND KEEPING AN EYE ON THIS EGG WHILE I GO GET IT?
Kayla grins and nods.
Saara says, OKAY. I'LL BE BACK FOR IT LATER.
Saara leaves. The ostriches in the pen stand at the fence and raise their heads.
[Ostriches chirping]
Kayla asks, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE OSTRICHES NOW?
Dex says, THEY'VE SPOTTED SOMETHING. BUT WHAT?
[Braying]
A Velociraptor sneaks up to Dex and grabs the ostrich egg.
[Dramatic music plays]
Dex and Kayla spot the Velociraptor.
Dex says, A VELOCIRAPTOR!
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, SHE STOLE THE EGG! WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE'S GONNA DO WITH IT? EAT IT?
Dex says, I DON'T WANNA FIND OUT! LET'S GET THAT EGG BACK. COME ON, KAYLA.
Kayla nods.
[Intense music plays]
Dex and Kayla leave their seats by the ostrich pen. Elsewhere on the farm, they run through a field.
[Dex panting]
Dex yells, AH! GET BACK HERE, VELOCIRAPTOR!
[Kayla grunting]
[Velociraptor screeching]
Ahead of Dex and Kayla, the Velociraptor ducks under an old tractor with the ostrich egg. The Velociraptor runs out in front of Dex and Kayla.
[Kayla yelping]
Dex says, WOAH!
[Velociraptor hissing]
The Velociraptor turns into a patch of tall grass.
Kayla says, COME ON!
[Velociraptor screeching]
Dex and Kayla follow the Velociraptor into a small clearing.
[Dex and Kayla panting]
Kayla says, SHE'S TOO FAST. HOW DO WE GET THE EGG?
The Velociraptor looks past Dex and Kayla.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Dex and Kayla look behind them toward the ostrich pen.
Dex asks, WHAT ARE THOSE OSTRICHES SAYING?
Kayla says, I THINK THE VELOCIRAPTOR KNOWS. SHE'S CHIRPING AND WHISTLING BACK AT THEM.
[Velociraptor chirping]
Dex says, THAT'S IT! LET'S SPLIT UP AND TRY TO TALK TO HER TOO.
Kayla nods. She goes left, and Dex goes right around the velociraptor.
[Kayle and Dex chirping]
Dex says, HERE, KITTY, KITTY!
[Velociraptor whistling and chirping]
Kayla says, IT'S WORKING! THE VELOCIRAPTOR CHIRPS AND WHISTLES LIKE OSTRICHES!
[Loud chirping]
Dex looks past Kayla and frowns. Kayla follows Dex’s gaze and furrows her brow.
[Roaring]
A Megaraptor walks toward the Velociraptor, Kayla and Dex.
[Velociraptor chirping]
Dex says, THEY'RE NOT THE ONLY DINOS THAT DO! LOOK!
Dex points at the Megaraptor.
Dex says, WE ALERTED A MEGARAPTOR!
[Dramatic music plays]
[Velociraptor screeching]
The Velociraptor drops the ostrich egg and runs away.
[Megaraptor growling]
Dex watches the Velociraptor leave.
Dex says, GRAB THE EGG! NOW'S OUR CHANCE!
Dex steps toward the egg.
[Megaraptor roaring]
Dex stops and looks up at the Megaraptor. The Megaraptor picks up the egg with its teeth and walks away.
Kayla says, AND THERE GOES OUR CHANCE. THE MEGARAPTOR GOT IT. NOW WHAT?
Dex says, WE GET THAT EGG BACK!
From elsewhere on the farm, Saara calls, DEX, KAYLA! WHERE'D YOU GO?
Dex looks over his shoulder and says, OH, NO. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TELL SAARA WE LOST THE OSTRICH EGG.
At the ostrich pen, Saara picks up a bucket in the wheelbarrow.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Saara says, OKAY. NICE AND EASY.
Saara holds the bucket up to the fence.
Saara says, NICE... AND... EASY.
Two of the ostriches eat from the bucket.
Saara says, OKAY.
The ostriches peck at feed in the bucket. Saara turns her head away from the feed that they knock out.
Saara says, OKAY.
From close by, Dex says, SAARA, WE HAVE TO TELL YOU SOME –
Saara says, OH! OKAY. THERE YOU TWO ARE.
Dex and Kayla walk over to Saara.
[Saara sighing tiredly]
Saara says, I DON'T THINK MY SUPERVISOR REALLY LIKES ME.
The ostriches pull more feed out of the bucket, and Saara flinches.
Saara says, SHE SAYS I NEED TO RELAX AROUND THE OSTRICHES.
Feed falls on Saara.
Saara yelps, AH!
Saara pulls the bucket away from the fence.
Saara says, OKAY. YEAH, MAYBE SHE'S RIGHT. HEY, SHE DID SAY THAT YOU TWO COULD HELP ME FEED THE OSTRICHES. DO YOU WANT TO?
Dex and Kayla share a look.
Dex says, UM, YEAH, OF, OF COURSE!
Kayla says, YES, THERE'S, UH, NOTHING I'D RATHER, UH, DO.
[Dex laughing awkwardly]
Saara says, OKAY. GREAT. I'M JUST GONNA GET SOME MORE FEED FOR YOU.
[Ostrich chirping]
Saara turns to the wheelbarrow.
Kayla quietly says to Dex, WE CAN'T TELL SAARA ABOUT THE EGG. SHE'LL GET EVEN MORE NERVOUS.
Dex quietly responds, GOOD POINT. WE'LL GET THE EGG BACK, THEN TELL HER.
With the bucket now full of feed, Saara says, ALL RIGHT. HERE, JUST HOLD IT UP LIKE THIS, OKAY?
Saara holds the bucket up above her head. She passes the bucket to Dex.
Dex says, OKAY…
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Dex holds the bucket up to the fence. An ostrich sticks its head in the bucket and pecks at the feed.
Dex says. THEY'RE SO HUNGRY!
Kayla says, THIS IS COOL!
Saara smiles and says, MM-HMM.
[Low-pitched grunting]
Dex says, WAIT, WHAT'S THAT SOUND?
Saara says, THAT? IT'S CALLED BOOMING. IT'S A SPECIAL NOISE THAT BOY OSTRICHES CAN MAKE TO WARN OTHER OSTRICHES ABOUT DANGER.
Dex furrows his brow.
Saara says, SOMETIMES IT'S USED AS A MATING CALL OR TO SCARE OFF PREDATORS. HERE.
Saara takes the bucket from Dex.
[Megaraptor roaring]
Dex glances toward the ostriches. On the other side of the pen, the megaraptor runs by.
[Megaraptor grunting]
[Ostrich booming]
Dex says, I WONDER WHAT PREDATOR HE'S TRYING TO SCARE AWAY.
Kayla whispers to Dex, MAYBE WE SHOULD TRY THAT.
Saara asks, TRY WHAT?
Dex says, UH, BOOMING!
Kayla says, UH, YEAH.
Booming like ostriches, Dex and Kayla say, OOOH.
Saara says, OH, OKAY.
[Saara chuckling awkwardly]
Saara says, YOU KNOW WHAT? I BETTER FINISH OFF MY LIST.
Saara checks her phone and says, CLEAN NURSERY, RETURN EGG. I DON'T WANT MY SUPERVISOR TO BOOM AT ME.
Dex and Kayla share a look, and Saara leaves.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Kayla says, TIME TO GO BOOM AT THAT MEGARAPTOR.
Dex nods. He and Kayla leave. Near the old tractor, the Megaraptor stands by the ostrich egg.
From close by, Dex says, HE'S GONNA EAT THE EGG!
[Megaraptor grunting]
Kayla says, LET'S SEE IF OUR BOOMING SCARES THIS PREDATOR.
Dex and Kayla creep toward the Megaraptor.
With a low pitch, Dex says, OOH!
Kayla frowns and says, ALSO, YOUR BOOM SHOULD BE MORE LIKE THIS.
With a low pitch, Kayla says, BOOM!
Dex says, MY BOOM WAS FINE.
With a low pitch, Dex says, OOH!
[Megaraptor grunting]
With a low pitch, Dex and Kayla say, BOOM!
[Megaraptor snorting]
Dex says, HE'S NOT SCARED!
Kayla says, I THINK WE HAVE TO BE EVEN LOUDER!
[Dex and Kayla inhaling deeply]
[Loud booming]
Dex and Kayla frown and knit their brows. They share a look.
Dex asks, WAS THAT YOU?
[Booming]
Kayla looks past the Megaraptor.
Kayla says, I THINK THAT WAS HIM!
[Megaraptor snorting]
A T-Rex walks up behind the Megaraptor.
Dex says, THE T-REX!
The Megaraptor glances at the T-Rex.
Dex says, I DON'T BELIEVE IT! T-REXES BOOM LIKE OSTRICHES.
[T-Rex booming]
[Megaraptor snarling]
The Megaraptor runs away.
Kayla says, WHICH DEFINITELY SCARED THE MEGARAPTOR. LET'S GET THE EGG.
Kayla and Dex step toward the egg.
[T-Rex growling]
Kayla and Dex stop moving. The T-Rex picks up the egg with its teeth.
Kayla says, OR LET THE T-REX GET THE EGG.
[T-Rex footsteps]
Dex says, COME ON. WE CAN'T LET HIM GET AWAY.
The T-Rex places the egg on a pile of mulch on one side of the old tractor. Dex and Kayla sneak around the other side of the tractor.
[T-Rex grunting]
Dex looks amazed.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla asks, IS THAT A T-REX NEST?
Dex says, I THINK THE T-REX THINKS THE EGG IS ITS BABY.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, REMEMBER WHAT SAARA SAID? IF THE T-REX IS LIKE AN OSTRICH, BOTH THE MOMS AND THE DADS SIT ON THE EGGS TO PROTECT IT.
[T-Rex grunting]
Kayla glances at the T-Rex and asks, HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET PAST THE T-REX THAT'S EGG-SITTING?
Dex furrows his brow.
From elsewhere on the farm, Saara calls, DEX! KAYLA! I HAVE SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU!
Kayla says, UH-OH.
Dex says, IT'S SAARA. NOW WE'RE REALLY GOING TO HAVE TO TELL HER THE TRUTH.
[Kayla sighing]
Dex and Kayla slowly back away from the tractor.
[T-Rex grunting]
Dex and Kayla turn and run toward the ostrich pen. Outside the ostrich pen, Saara crouches inside a small pen and feeds an ostrich chick feed out of her hand. She smiles softly.
[Ostrich chicks trilling]
Saara looks up and says, HEY. COME CHECK OUT THE OSTRICH NURSERY.
Dex and Kayla walk up to the small pen, the ostrich nursery.
[Kayla gasping]
Dex says, BABY OSTRICHES!
Kayla says, THEY'RE SO CUTE.
Saara says, AREN'T THEY ADORABLE? MMM, SEEING THESE BABIES IS THE BEST PART OF MY DAY.
Saara looks at Dex and Kayla.
[Ostrich chicks trilling]
Saara says, COME IN. HELP ME FEED THEM.
Dex and Kayla climb into the nursery.
Dex starts to say, SAARA, I'M REALLY SORR –
Kayla interrupts and says, HOLD THAT THOUGHT, DEX. SAARA, WHAT'S THAT SOUND THEY'RE MAKING?
Dex and Kayla crouch near Saara.
Saara says, OH, IT'S CALLED TRILLING. IT'S WHAT BABY OSTRICHES DO TO SIGNAL THAT THEY NEED HELP OR FOOD FROM THEIR PARENTS OR FLOCK.
Saara gives Dex and Kayla handfuls of feed.
Kayla says, I WONDER IF T-REX BABIES MAKE THE SAME SOUND AS THEY DO.
Dex looks thoughtful. He nods and passes Saara his handful of feed.
Dex says, WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK.
[Kayla chuckling]
Dex stands and says, COME ON, KAYLA.
Saara knits her brow.
Saara says, OKAY...
[Kayla giggling]
Near a pond, Kayla says, HERE'S THE PLAN. ONE OF US IS A BABY T-REX AND TRILLS. IF T-REXES SOUND LIKE OSTRICHES, THE DAD T-REX WILL COME AND HELP. WITH THE NEST UNGUARDED, THE OTHER ONE OF US CAN GRAB THE EGG!
Kayla and Dex walk past the pond. Dex nods.
Dex asks, WHICH ONE OF US WILL BE THE BABY?
Kayla says, WHOEVER DOES THE BEST TRILL.
Dex says, LIKE THIS?
[Dex making a high-pitch squeak]
Kayla says, IT’S MORE LIKE...
[Kayla making a low-pitch squeak]
Dex says, OKAY, YOU'RE BETTER AT TRILLING THAN ME.
Kayla says, I GUESS I AM.
Kayla stops and frowns.
Kayla says, WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO BE THE BAIT, DON'T I?
Dex says, YEP! IT'S T-REX TIME!
Kayla takes off her dino backpack.
[Exciting music plays]
By the old tractor, the T-Rex lowers its head toward the ostrich egg on the mulch pile.
[T-Rex braying]
Kayla climbs onto the tractor wearing a knitted T-Rex hat.
Kayla says, HERE GOES NOTHING.
[Kayla trilling]
The T-Rex raises its head toward Kayla.
[T-Rex braying]
Dex sneaks around the tractor.
Dex says, IT'S WORKING!
Dex crouches by one of the front wheels.
Dex says, T-REX BABIES DO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR PARENTS BY TRILLING!
[Kayla trilling]
[T-rex chirping]
Dex says, THIS IS INCREDIBLE! T-REXES CHIRP AND WHISTLE TOO?
[Kayla trilling]
Dex says, THEY DO SOUND JUST LIKE OSTRICHES.
Kayla says, DEX? THE EGG?
[T-Rex chirping]
Dex says, RIGHT.
Dex crawls toward the pile of mulch and reaches for the egg. He freezes and glances face-to-face with T-Rex.
[T-Rex growling]
Dex stumbles back.
[Dex laughing nervously]
Dex says, DO SOMETHING!
[Kayla trilling]
[T-Rex roaring]
The T-Rex sprays Dex with saliva.
[Dex yelping]
Kayla climbs higher up the tractor.
[Kayla trilling loudly]
The T-Rex backs away from Dex and turns to Kayla. Dex looks amazed.
Kayla says, HI, T-REX DAD.
The T-Rex gazes down at Kayla.
[T-Rex chirping]
Kayla says, NOW, DEX.
Kayla glances at Dex and says, GO!
Dex stands and says, OH!
[Kayla trilling]
Kayla says, CHIRP, CHIRP!
[Kayla whistling]
[T-Rex chirping]
Dex runs and grabs the egg.
[Kayla giggling]
[Kayla trilling]
Kayla says, CHIRP, CHIRP!
Dex runs from the T-Rex. In the ostrich chick nursery, chicks eat from Saara’s hands.
Saara says, COME!
Two more chicks run to Sarra and eat from her hands.
Saara says, AWW.
Dex walks over with the egg.
Saara says, OH, HEY, DEX. THERE YOU ARE. THANK YOU FOR KEEPING AN EYE ON THAT EGG FOR ME. I SHOULD GET IT BACK, THOUGH.
Saara stands.
Dex says, SAARA, WE DIDN'T TELL YOU BEFORE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT YOU TO FREAK OUT, BUT... THREE DIFFERENT DINOS STOLE THE EGG.
Saara says, WHAT?!
Saara takes the egg from Dex.
Dex says, THE VELOCIRAPTOR, MEGARAPTOR, AND T-REX. BUT DON'T WORRY. WE CHIRPED AND WHISTLED AT THE VELOCIRAPTOR, BOOMED AT THE MEGARAPTOR, AND TRILLED FOR THE T-REX, AND GUESS WHAT?
Saara says, YOU AND KAYLA GOT THE EGG BACK?
Dex says, YEAH, BUT ALSO, WE SOLVED DINO EXPERIMENT 1016: WHAT DO T-REXES REALLY SOUND LIKE? AND THE ANSWER IS: ALL OF THOSE SOUNDS! THEY WHISTLE, CHIRP, BOOM, AND TRILL. JUST LIKE OSTRICHES!
Dex looks over his shoulder at two ostriches in the large pen behind him.
[Ostrich whistling and chirping]
Dex looks at Saara and says, BUT, SORRY. WE SHOULD'VE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE EGG.
Saara says, YEAH. YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD'VE TOLD ME.
Saara smiles and says, BUT HEY, THANK YOU FOR GETTING IT BACK FROM THE DINOS FOR ME.
[Saara chuckling]
Dex smiles.
Saara says, OH, AND GUESS WHAT? MY SUPERVISOR SAID I'M DOING REALLY WELL.
Dex says, THAT'S GREAT, SAARA!
[Saara chuckling]
Saara looks around and says, WAIT, WHERE IS KAYLA?
Dex looks around and frowns. Sitting on the pile of mulch, Kayla hugs her knees.

Dex says, I WONDER IF T-REXES MAKE THE SAME NOISES.
Saara says, YOU KNOW, WHEN I PICKED A BIRD SANCTUARY FOR MY BIOLOGY CLASS INTERNSHIP, I THOUGHT I'D BE WORKING WITH SMALL BIRDS. ONES WITH SMALLER FEET. WHO DON'T TRY TO KICK ME.
[Ostriches chirping]
The ostriches run around their pen.
Kayla says, THANKS FOR INVITING US TO HANG OUT WITH THE OSTRICHES WHILE YOU WORK.
Saara says, OF COURSE! NO PROBLEM. HEY, BEFORE YOU GUYS DO WHATEVER DINO THING YOU'RE DOING, CHECK THIS OUT.
Saara takes a large egg out of the wheelbarrow. Dex looks shocked.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, AN OSTRICH EGG?
Saara nods.
[Saara giggling]
Dex says, IT’S HUGE!
Saara gives Dex the ostrich egg.
Kayla says, WHOA.
Saara says, OSTRICHES LAY THE BIGGEST EGG OF ANY BIRD IN THE WORLD. THEY'RE SO HARD YOU COULD STAND ON THEM.
Dex knocks on the egg.
[Knocking]
Saara says, YOU'D NEED A ROCK TO BREAK IT.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, ROCKS I GOT. CAN I TRY BREAKING IT?
Kayla grabs her rock collection box.
Saara says, UH-UH, UH-UH, UH-UH. NO WAY. OSTRICH EGGS NEED TO BE PROTECTED. THE MOM WILL SIT ON IT DURING THE DAY AND THE DAD WILL SIT ON IT AT NIGHT.
Kayla looks disappointed.
Dex says, THAT'S LIKE SOME DINOSAURS TOO!
Saara says, NEAT. OOPS, I DIDN'T BRING ENOUGH FEED FOR THEM. DO YOU MIND KEEPING AN EYE ON THIS EGG WHILE I GO GET IT?
Kayla grins and nods.
Saara says, OKAY. I'LL BE BACK FOR IT LATER.
Saara leaves. The ostriches in the pen stand at the fence and raise their heads.
[Ostriches chirping]
Kayla asks, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE OSTRICHES NOW?
Dex says, THEY'VE SPOTTED SOMETHING. BUT WHAT?
[Braying]
A Velociraptor sneaks up to Dex and grabs the ostrich egg.
[Dramatic music plays]
Dex and Kayla spot the Velociraptor.
Dex says, A VELOCIRAPTOR!
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, SHE STOLE THE EGG! WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE'S GONNA DO WITH IT? EAT IT?
Dex says, I DON'T WANNA FIND OUT! LET'S GET THAT EGG BACK. COME ON, KAYLA.
Kayla nods.
[Intense music plays]
Dex and Kayla leave their seats by the ostrich pen. Elsewhere on the farm, they run through a field.
[Dex panting]
Dex yells, AH! GET BACK HERE, VELOCIRAPTOR!
[Kayla grunting]
[Velociraptor screeching]
Ahead of Dex and Kayla, the Velociraptor ducks under an old tractor with the ostrich egg. The Velociraptor runs out in front of Dex and Kayla.
[Kayla yelping]
Dex says, WOAH!
[Velociraptor hissing]
The Velociraptor turns into a patch of tall grass.
Kayla says, COME ON!
[Velociraptor screeching]
Dex and Kayla follow the Velociraptor into a small clearing.
[Dex and Kayla panting]
Kayla says, SHE'S TOO FAST. HOW DO WE GET THE EGG?
The Velociraptor looks past Dex and Kayla.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Dex and Kayla look behind them toward the ostrich pen.
Dex asks, WHAT ARE THOSE OSTRICHES SAYING?
Kayla says, I THINK THE VELOCIRAPTOR KNOWS. SHE'S CHIRPING AND WHISTLING BACK AT THEM.
[Velociraptor chirping]
Dex says, THAT'S IT! LET'S SPLIT UP AND TRY TO TALK TO HER TOO.
Kayla nods. She goes left, and Dex goes right around the velociraptor.
[Kayle and Dex chirping]
Dex says, HERE, KITTY, KITTY!
[Velociraptor whistling and chirping]
Kayla says, IT'S WORKING! THE VELOCIRAPTOR CHIRPS AND WHISTLES LIKE OSTRICHES!
[Loud chirping]
Dex looks past Kayla and frowns. Kayla follows Dex’s gaze and furrows her brow.
[Roaring]
A Megaraptor walks toward the Velociraptor, Kayla and Dex.
[Velociraptor chirping]
Dex says, THEY'RE NOT THE ONLY DINOS THAT DO! LOOK!
Dex points at the Megaraptor.
Dex says, WE ALERTED A MEGARAPTOR!
[Dramatic music plays]
[Velociraptor screeching]
The Velociraptor drops the ostrich egg and runs away.
[Megaraptor growling]
Dex watches the Velociraptor leave.
Dex says, GRAB THE EGG! NOW'S OUR CHANCE!
Dex steps toward the egg.
[Megaraptor roaring]
Dex stops and looks up at the Megaraptor. The Megaraptor picks up the egg with its teeth and walks away.
Kayla says, AND THERE GOES OUR CHANCE. THE MEGARAPTOR GOT IT. NOW WHAT?
Dex says, WE GET THAT EGG BACK!
From elsewhere on the farm, Saara calls, DEX, KAYLA! WHERE'D YOU GO?
Dex looks over his shoulder and says, OH, NO. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TELL SAARA WE LOST THE OSTRICH EGG.
At the ostrich pen, Saara picks up a bucket in the wheelbarrow.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Saara says, OKAY. NICE AND EASY.
Saara holds the bucket up to the fence.
Saara says, NICE... AND... EASY.
Two of the ostriches eat from the bucket.
Saara says, OKAY.
The ostriches peck at feed in the bucket. Saara turns her head away from the feed that they knock out.
Saara says, OKAY.
From close by, Dex says, SAARA, WE HAVE TO TELL YOU SOME –
Saara says, OH! OKAY. THERE YOU TWO ARE.
Dex and Kayla walk over to Saara.
[Saara sighing tiredly]
Saara says, I DON'T THINK MY SUPERVISOR REALLY LIKES ME.
The ostriches pull more feed out of the bucket, and Saara flinches.
Saara says, SHE SAYS I NEED TO RELAX AROUND THE OSTRICHES.
Feed falls on Saara.
Saara yelps, AH!
Saara pulls the bucket away from the fence.
Saara says, OKAY. YEAH, MAYBE SHE'S RIGHT. HEY, SHE DID SAY THAT YOU TWO COULD HELP ME FEED THE OSTRICHES. DO YOU WANT TO?
Dex and Kayla share a look.
Dex says, UM, YEAH, OF, OF COURSE!
Kayla says, YES, THERE'S, UH, NOTHING I'D RATHER, UH, DO.
[Dex laughing awkwardly]
Saara says, OKAY. GREAT. I'M JUST GONNA GET SOME MORE FEED FOR YOU.
[Ostrich chirping]
Saara turns to the wheelbarrow.
Kayla quietly says to Dex, WE CAN'T TELL SAARA ABOUT THE EGG. SHE'LL GET EVEN MORE NERVOUS.
Dex quietly responds, GOOD POINT. WE'LL GET THE EGG BACK, THEN TELL HER.
With the bucket now full of feed, Saara says, ALL RIGHT. HERE, JUST HOLD IT UP LIKE THIS, OKAY?
Saara holds the bucket up above her head. She passes the bucket to Dex.
Dex says, OKAY…
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Dex holds the bucket up to the fence. An ostrich sticks its head in the bucket and pecks at the feed.
Dex says. THEY'RE SO HUNGRY!
Kayla says, THIS IS COOL!
Saara smiles and says, MM-HMM.
[Low-pitched grunting]
Dex says, WAIT, WHAT'S THAT SOUND?
Saara says, THAT? IT'S CALLED BOOMING. IT'S A SPECIAL NOISE THAT BOY OSTRICHES CAN MAKE TO WARN OTHER OSTRICHES ABOUT DANGER.
Dex furrows his brow.
Saara says, SOMETIMES IT'S USED AS A MATING CALL OR TO SCARE OFF PREDATORS. HERE.
Saara takes the bucket from Dex.
[Megaraptor roaring]
Dex glances toward the ostriches. On the other side of the pen, the megaraptor runs by.
[Megaraptor grunting]
[Ostrich booming]
Dex says, I WONDER WHAT PREDATOR HE'S TRYING TO SCARE AWAY.
Kayla whispers to Dex, MAYBE WE SHOULD TRY THAT.
Saara asks, TRY WHAT?
Dex says, UH, BOOMING!
Kayla says, UH, YEAH.
Booming like ostriches, Dex and Kayla say, OOOH.
Saara says, OH, OKAY.
[Saara chuckling awkwardly]
Saara says, YOU KNOW WHAT? I BETTER FINISH OFF MY LIST.
Saara checks her phone and says, CLEAN NURSERY, RETURN EGG. I DON'T WANT MY SUPERVISOR TO BOOM AT ME.
Dex and Kayla share a look, and Saara leaves.
[Ostriches chirping and whistling]
Kayla says, TIME TO GO BOOM AT THAT MEGARAPTOR.
Dex nods. He and Kayla leave. Near the old tractor, the Megaraptor stands by the ostrich egg.
From close by, Dex says, HE'S GONNA EAT THE EGG!
[Megaraptor grunting]
Kayla says, LET'S SEE IF OUR BOOMING SCARES THIS PREDATOR.
Dex and Kayla creep toward the Megaraptor.
With a low pitch, Dex says, OOH!
Kayla frowns and says, ALSO, YOUR BOOM SHOULD BE MORE LIKE THIS.
With a low pitch, Kayla says, BOOM!
Dex says, MY BOOM WAS FINE.
With a low pitch, Dex says, OOH!
[Megaraptor grunting]
With a low pitch, Dex and Kayla say, BOOM!
[Megaraptor snorting]
Dex says, HE'S NOT SCARED!
Kayla says, I THINK WE HAVE TO BE EVEN LOUDER!
[Dex and Kayla inhaling deeply]
[Loud booming]
Dex and Kayla frown and knit their brows. They share a look.
Dex asks, WAS THAT YOU?
[Booming]
Kayla looks past the Megaraptor.
Kayla says, I THINK THAT WAS HIM!
[Megaraptor snorting]
A T-Rex walks up behind the Megaraptor.
Dex says, THE T-REX!
The Megaraptor glances at the T-Rex.
Dex says, I DON'T BELIEVE IT! T-REXES BOOM LIKE OSTRICHES.
[T-Rex booming]
[Megaraptor snarling]
The Megaraptor runs away.
Kayla says, WHICH DEFINITELY SCARED THE MEGARAPTOR. LET'S GET THE EGG.
Kayla and Dex step toward the egg.
[T-Rex growling]
Kayla and Dex stop moving. The T-Rex picks up the egg with its teeth.
Kayla says, OR LET THE T-REX GET THE EGG.
[T-Rex footsteps]
Dex says, COME ON. WE CAN'T LET HIM GET AWAY.
The T-Rex places the egg on a pile of mulch on one side of the old tractor. Dex and Kayla sneak around the other side of the tractor.
[T-Rex grunting]
Dex looks amazed.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla asks, IS THAT A T-REX NEST?
Dex says, I THINK THE T-REX THINKS THE EGG IS ITS BABY.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, REMEMBER WHAT SAARA SAID? IF THE T-REX IS LIKE AN OSTRICH, BOTH THE MOMS AND THE DADS SIT ON THE EGGS TO PROTECT IT.
[T-Rex grunting]
Kayla glances at the T-Rex and asks, HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET PAST THE T-REX THAT'S EGG-SITTING?
Dex furrows his brow.
From elsewhere on the farm, Saara calls, DEX! KAYLA! I HAVE SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU!
Kayla says, UH-OH.
Dex says, IT'S SAARA. NOW WE'RE REALLY GOING TO HAVE TO TELL HER THE TRUTH.
[Kayla sighing]
Dex and Kayla slowly back away from the tractor.
[T-Rex grunting]
Dex and Kayla turn and run toward the ostrich pen. Outside the ostrich pen, Saara crouches inside a small pen and feeds an ostrich chick feed out of her hand. She smiles softly.
[Ostrich chicks trilling]
Saara looks up and says, HEY. COME CHECK OUT THE OSTRICH NURSERY.
Dex and Kayla walk up to the small pen, the ostrich nursery.
[Kayla gasping]
Dex says, BABY OSTRICHES!
Kayla says, THEY'RE SO CUTE.
Saara says, AREN'T THEY ADORABLE? MMM, SEEING THESE BABIES IS THE BEST PART OF MY DAY.
Saara looks at Dex and Kayla.
[Ostrich chicks trilling]
Saara says, COME IN. HELP ME FEED THEM.
Dex and Kayla climb into the nursery.
Dex starts to say, SAARA, I'M REALLY SORR –
Kayla interrupts and says, HOLD THAT THOUGHT, DEX. SAARA, WHAT'S THAT SOUND THEY'RE MAKING?
Dex and Kayla crouch near Saara.
Saara says, OH, IT'S CALLED TRILLING. IT'S WHAT BABY OSTRICHES DO TO SIGNAL THAT THEY NEED HELP OR FOOD FROM THEIR PARENTS OR FLOCK.
Saara gives Dex and Kayla handfuls of feed.
Kayla says, I WONDER IF T-REX BABIES MAKE THE SAME SOUND AS THEY DO.
Dex looks thoughtful. He nods and passes Saara his handful of feed.
Dex says, WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK.
[Kayla chuckling]
Dex stands and says, COME ON, KAYLA.
Saara knits her brow.
Saara says, OKAY...
[Kayla giggling]
Near a pond, Kayla says, HERE'S THE PLAN. ONE OF US IS A BABY T-REX AND TRILLS. IF T-REXES SOUND LIKE OSTRICHES, THE DAD T-REX WILL COME AND HELP. WITH THE NEST UNGUARDED, THE OTHER ONE OF US CAN GRAB THE EGG!
Kayla and Dex walk past the pond. Dex nods.
Dex asks, WHICH ONE OF US WILL BE THE BABY?
Kayla says, WHOEVER DOES THE BEST TRILL.
Dex says, LIKE THIS?
[Dex making a high-pitch squeak]
Kayla says, IT’S MORE LIKE...
[Kayla making a low-pitch squeak]
Dex says, OKAY, YOU'RE BETTER AT TRILLING THAN ME.
Kayla says, I GUESS I AM.
Kayla stops and frowns.
Kayla says, WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO BE THE BAIT, DON'T I?
Dex says, YEP! IT'S T-REX TIME!
Kayla takes off her dino backpack.
[Exciting music plays]
By the old tractor, the T-Rex lowers its head toward the ostrich egg on the mulch pile.
[T-Rex braying]
Kayla climbs onto the tractor wearing a knitted T-Rex hat.
Kayla says, HERE GOES NOTHING.
[Kayla trilling]
The T-Rex raises its head toward Kayla.
[T-Rex braying]
Dex sneaks around the tractor.
Dex says, IT'S WORKING!
Dex crouches by one of the front wheels.
Dex says, T-REX BABIES DO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR PARENTS BY TRILLING!
[Kayla trilling]
[T-rex chirping]
Dex says, THIS IS INCREDIBLE! T-REXES CHIRP AND WHISTLE TOO?
[Kayla trilling]
Dex says, THEY DO SOUND JUST LIKE OSTRICHES.
Kayla says, DEX? THE EGG?
[T-Rex chirping]
Dex says, RIGHT.
Dex crawls toward the pile of mulch and reaches for the egg. He freezes and glances face-to-face with T-Rex.
[T-Rex growling]
Dex stumbles back.
[Dex laughing nervously]
Dex says, DO SOMETHING!
[Kayla trilling]
[T-Rex roaring]
The T-Rex sprays Dex with saliva.
[Dex yelping]
Kayla climbs higher up the tractor.
[Kayla trilling loudly]
The T-Rex backs away from Dex and turns to Kayla. Dex looks amazed.
Kayla says, HI, T-REX DAD.
The T-Rex gazes down at Kayla.
[T-Rex chirping]
Kayla says, NOW, DEX.
Kayla glances at Dex and says, GO!
Dex stands and says, OH!
[Kayla trilling]
Kayla says, CHIRP, CHIRP!
[Kayla whistling]
[T-Rex chirping]
Dex runs and grabs the egg.
[Kayla giggling]
[Kayla trilling]
Kayla says, CHIRP, CHIRP!
Dex runs from the T-Rex. In the ostrich chick nursery, chicks eat from Saara’s hands.
Saara says, COME!
Two more chicks run to Sarra and eat from her hands.
Saara says, AWW.
Dex walks over with the egg.
Saara says, OH, HEY, DEX. THERE YOU ARE. THANK YOU FOR KEEPING AN EYE ON THAT EGG FOR ME. I SHOULD GET IT BACK, THOUGH.
Saara stands.
Dex says, SAARA, WE DIDN'T TELL YOU BEFORE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT YOU TO FREAK OUT, BUT... THREE DIFFERENT DINOS STOLE THE EGG.
Saara says, WHAT?!
Saara takes the egg from Dex.
Dex says, THE VELOCIRAPTOR, MEGARAPTOR, AND T-REX. BUT DON'T WORRY. WE CHIRPED AND WHISTLED AT THE VELOCIRAPTOR, BOOMED AT THE MEGARAPTOR, AND TRILLED FOR THE T-REX, AND GUESS WHAT?
Saara says, YOU AND KAYLA GOT THE EGG BACK?
Dex says, YEAH, BUT ALSO, WE SOLVED DINO EXPERIMENT 1016: WHAT DO T-REXES REALLY SOUND LIKE? AND THE ANSWER IS: ALL OF THOSE SOUNDS! THEY WHISTLE, CHIRP, BOOM, AND TRILL. JUST LIKE OSTRICHES!
Dex looks over his shoulder at two ostriches in the large pen behind him.
[Ostrich whistling and chirping]
Dex looks at Saara and says, BUT, SORRY. WE SHOULD'VE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE EGG.
Saara says, YEAH. YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD'VE TOLD ME.
Saara smiles and says, BUT HEY, THANK YOU FOR GETTING IT BACK FROM THE DINOS FOR ME.
[Saara chuckling]
Dex smiles.
Saara says, OH, AND GUESS WHAT? MY SUPERVISOR SAID I'M DOING REALLY WELL.
Dex says, THAT'S GREAT, SAARA!
[Saara chuckling]
Saara looks around and says, WAIT, WHERE IS KAYLA?
Dex looks around and frowns. Sitting on the pile of mulch, Kayla hugs her knees.
Kayla says, DEX? DEX, YOU CAN GET ME ANY TIME NOW. DEX!
The T-Rex lowers its head toward Kayla.
[T-Rex chirping]
[T-Rex snorting]
Kayla says, OH, HEY, T-REX DAD.
[T-Rex chirping]
Kayla says, DEX?
