A submarine moves through deep blue water, leaving a trail of bubbles.
Off-screen, Dex says, 950.
Kayla sits at the helm and steers the submarine. She has her long black hair in a ponytail and wears a pink and white uniform.
Kayla says, 1,000.
Dex says, 1,050.
[Rattling]
Dex enters the room and quickly grabs a tin cup, sliding across a counter. Dex’s dark brown hair is slicked back, and he wears a blue and white uniform.
Kayla says, 1,100.
Dex says, 1,150.
Kayla says, 1,200.
Dex says, KEEP HER STEADY, COMMANDER.
Kayla asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M TRYING TO DO? WHY ARE WE GOING TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN AGAIN?
Dex says, PALEONTOLOGISTS DISCOVER A NEW DINOSAUR EVERY TWO WEEKS. BUT THEY USUALLY ONLY FIND THEM ON LAND.
[Chiming]
Dex activates a map with lines pointing to dig sites in North and South America.
Kayla asks, ALBERTA? ISN'T THAT WHERE DANA'S DIGGING RIGHT NOW?
Dex says, MMM, I DON'T KNOW, PROBABLY. BUT 71 PERCENT OF OUR EARTH IS OCEAN.
Kayla says, MEANING THERE COULD BE A TON OF DINOSAURS UNDERWATER.
Dex says, WAITING FOR ME TO DISCOVER.
[Kayla clearing her throat]
Dex says, OH. WAITING FOR US TO DISCOVER.
[Whirring]
Dex twists a lever, and continents shift on the map.
Dex says, AND CHECK THIS OUT. THIS IS WHAT THE EARTH LOOKED LIKE WHEN THE DINOSAURS WERE ALIVE. SINCE THEN, THE OCEANS AND LAND MOVED AROUND. SO, DINO BONES MIGHT BE UNDERWATER RIGHT NOW.
[Whirring]
Kayla twists the lever and changes the map.
Kayla says, NOW. THEN. NOW. THEN. NOW. THEN. NOW…
Dex says, STOP DOING THAT! AND SHOULDN'T YOU BE PAYING ATTENTION TO HOW DEEP WE ARE, COMMANDER?
[Beeping]
Kayla says, WE'RE FINE, WE'VE STILL-- WHOA!
[Thumping, metal scraping, dramatic music plays]
The submarine hits rocks on the ocean floor.
[Soft music plays]
Kayla says, WE'VE MADE IT TO THE BOTTOM, SIR.
Dex says, THANK YOU, COMMANDER. ACTIVATE ROBOT ARMS AND PERISCOPE.
Kayla says, ACTIVATING.
[Beeping, hydraulics whirring, clicking]
Kayla pushes buttons, and the robot arms extend from the front of the submarine. Inside, a periscope lowers to Dex, and he peers into the viewer.
Dex says, PREPARING TO DIG.
Kayla runs to Dex.
Kayla asks, CAN I TRY THAT AFTER YOU?
Dex replies, ABSOLUTELY. IT'S REALLY FUN.
[Hydraulics whirring, thumping, rock clattering]
Dex squeezes the controls on the periscope handle, and the robot arms move rocks.
Kayla asks, DIDN'T DANA JUST DISCOVER SOMETHING NEW A FEW WEEKS AGO?
Dex glances at Kayla and then back into the viewer.
Dex says, IT HASN'T BEEN CONFIRMED YET.
Kayla says, OKAY...
Dex says, CAN YOU TURN ON MORE LIGHTS? IT'S HARD TO SEE DOWN HERE.
[Beeping, whirring, rock clattering]
Kayla pushes buttons. A robot arm moves a rock, revealing a large tooth.
Dex says, I'VE GOT SOMETHING! LOOKS LIKE DANA'S NOT THE ONLY PERSON IN OUR FAMILY MAKING IMPORTANT DISCOVERIES.
[Whirring]
The viewer screen darkens.
Dex says, KAYLA, I SAID MORE LIGHTS, NOT TO TURN THEM ALL OFF.
Kayla holds her hands up away from the controls.
Kayla says, I DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING!
[Low growling]
Kayla asks, WHAT'S MAKING THAT NOISE?
[Whirring]
Dex turns the periscope and watches the viewer.
Dex says, SCANNING. SCANNING... SCANNING... NOTHING.
[Loud thudding]
The submarine shakes.
Dex says, WHOA. THAT'S NOT NOTHING.
[Growling, thudding, dramatic music plays]
On the viewer screen, squid arms reach out of the darkness and grab the submarine. The submarine shakes, and Dex jumps back from the viewer, open-mouthed.
Dex says, REVERSE ENGINES. FULL POWER.
Kayla asks WHAT DID YOU SEE?
Dex says, A SQUID.
Kayla says, THAT DOESN'T SOUND SO BAD.
Dex says, A COLOSSAL SQUID!
Kayla says, YEAH, THAT SOUNDS WORSE.
[Whirring, bubbling, creaking, banging, intense music plays]
The submarine reverses, and the colossal squid sticks to the front. A red light fills the control room.
Kayla says, I CAN'T TAKE IT!
Dex says, SQUIDS HAVE TEN ARMS, EACH WITH HUNDREDS OF STICKY SUCKERS ON THEM.
Kayla says, SO IT'S JUST GONNA STICK TO US.
Dex says, IT USES THEM TO PULL ITS PREY TO ITS BEAK-LIKE MOUTH SO IT CAN TEAR THEM UP!
[Forced laughter from Kayla]
Kayla says, OF COURSE!
[Thudding, creaking]
Dex says, EVASIVE MANEUVERS!
Kayla asks, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Dex replies, JUST MOVE US AROUND A LOT.
[Intense music continues, thudding]
Kayla shouts, AH! THOSE SUCKERS ARE REALLY SUCKING! WHAT DO I DO, DEX?
Over an intercom, Saara says, LUNCH IS READY.
[Clicking]
Speaking into an intercom, Dex says, A LITTLE BUSY RIGHT NOW, SAARA.
[Clinking]
In the kitchen, Saara puts a plate with a sandwich on the counter. She holds a lime green walkie-talkie. Saara has her long, dark brown hair in a braid with tendrils framing her face. She wears a denim vest over a lilac shirt.
Saara says, YEAH, SO AM I. REMEMBER, I'M SUPPOSED TO BE STUDYING RIGHT NOW, NOT BABYSITTING.
In his bedroom, Dex says, WHERE WERE WE? OH, YEAH.
[Spray hissing]
Dex sprays water on Kayla’s face. Kayla sits on a chair by a cardboard control panel with levers and twisted tubes.
Speaking into a walkie-talkie, Kayla says, WE'RE COMING DOWN.
Dex lifts his hands.
Dex says, HMM?
Kayla says, WHAT? I'M HUNGRY.
[Static flickering]
Speaking into a walkie-talkie, Kayla asks, DO YOU HAVE ANY PIZZA OR PASTA?
Speaking into a walkie-talkie, Saara replies, YOUR CHOICE IS GONNA BE SANDWICHES OR SANDWICHES.
[Static flickering, melancholy music plays]
Kayla leaves the room. Dex stops and looks at a photograph on the wall. In it, he sits in a vehicle beside a woman with long, dark hair in a braid. Dex smiles and wears a knit dinosaur over a helmet. Beside him, the woman with the braid gives a thumbs up. In a flashback, Dex’s dad, Oman, carries a roaster with the lid. His mom, Eva, carries two bags.
Oman asks, WHAT TOOK YOU BOTH SO LONG?
Dex and the woman with the braid reply, DINO EXPERIMENT.
[Dinosaur growling, Dex grunting]
In a park, Dex and the woman with the braid duck as a dinosaur lashes out with its tail.
The woman with the braid says, WATCH OUT!
In a car, the woman with the braid says, WE JUST CHASED AROUND A PACK OF RAPTORS IN A BASEBALL DIAMOND.
[Velociraptors squealing]
Two velociraptors run across a baseball diamond.
Dex says, WE MUST PLAY HOUSE OF MAMMAL!
The woman with the braid holds a mirror above her head. A beam of glowing blue light from the mirror engulfs a creature in front of her.
In a car, the woman with the braid says, DISCOVER SOMETHING THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING.
[Crunching, melancholy music continues]
The flashback ends, and Dex leaves his bedroom. In the kitchen, Kayla eats a sandwich.
Dex says, SAARA, YOU JUST INTERRUPTED AN IMPORTANT UNDERSEA DINO DIG.
Dex sits beside Kayla at the counter, and Saara pours him a cup of juice.
Saara says, MAN, I HATE WHEN I DO THAT.
[Cup clunking on the counter]
Kayla says, MORE LIKE YOU JUST SAVED US FROM BEING EATEN BY A GIANT SQUID.
[Container clunking]
Saara puts the juice container down on a different counter.
Dex says, A COLOSSAL SQUID, AND WE WOULD'VE GOTTEN AWAY.
Kayla says, NO, WE WOULDN'T. IT WAS WRAPPED AROUND US LIKE THIS.
[Kayla growling, roaring, Dex exclaiming]
Kayla grabs Dex and shakes him.
Kayla says, AND IT WAS CHEWING ON US LIKE THIS.
[Kayla roaring, Saara chuckling, typing]
Kayla bites into her sandwich. Saara picks up her smartphone and types.
Saara says, OKAY, WELL, LET'S CALL DANA. SHE'LL KNOW HOW TO HELP YOU OUT.
[Dramatic music notes play]
Dex says, NO, DON'T!
[Phone ringing]
Dex says, SHE'S BUSY WITH HER OWN DIG.
Dana, the woman with the braid, says in a recording, HI, YOU'VE REACHED DANA JAIN. I CAN'T COME TO THE PHONE RIGHT NOW…
Saara ends the call.
Saara says, WELL, YOU'RE RIGHT. SHE'S NOT ANSWERING MY CALL.
Dex says, SHE'S ALSO MISSED OUR LAST FOUR SATURDAY DINO EXPERIMENT UPDATES.
Saara says, HEY, WELL, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN HER DREAM TO FIND A NEW DINOSAUR AND NAME IT.
[Kayla gasping, gentle music plays]
Kayla asks, SHE GETS TO NAME IT?
Dex replies, WHOEVER FINDS A NEW DINO GETS NAMING RIGHTS.
Kayla says, LUCKY DANA.
Dex looks down and says, YEAH.
[Typing on the smartphone]
Saara says, HEY. SQUIDS SHOOT OUT INK AS DEFENCE, RIGHT?
[Water bubbling, Kayla gasping]
Saara plays a video on her smartphone of a squid squirting ink.
Kayla says, THAT EXPLAINS THE DARK CLOUD.
[Beeping]
Saara turns off her smartphone and puts it on the counter.
Saara says, WELL, IF YOU CAN'T SHAKE OFF THE SQUID, MAYBE YOU CAN FIND ANOTHER DINO THAT COULD.
Dex says, BUT DINOS DON'T SWIM DEEP UNDERWATER.
Saara says, WELL, ANOTHER UNDERWATER PREHISTORIC MARINE REPTILE.
Dex and Kayla look at each other.
Kayla says, UH...
Saara says, I USED TO LISTEN TO DANA TALK ABOUT THIS ALL THE TIME.
Dex says, I DON'T KNOW.
[Thumping]
Saara moves plastic containers on the counter.
Saara says, "I DON'T KNOW"? THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A PALEONTOLOGIST IN TRAINING.
Dex says, I GUESS WE COULD TEST YOUR THEORY.
[Saara chuckling]
Saara says, THAT'S BETTER.
Kayla asks, WHICH PREHISTORIC MARINE REPTILE WOULD WE USE?
Kayla whispers, UM, AND ARE YOU GONNA FINISH YOUR SANDWICH?
[Dex chuckling]
Dex puts half of his sandwich on Kayla’s plate.
[Roaring, whooshing, upbeat music plays]
An Albertonectes swims in the sky past a window.
Dex says, ALBERTONECTES! COME ON, KAYLA. WE'VE GOT TO GET RID OF THAT SQUID SO WE CAN GET BACK TO OUR OWN DISCOVERY.
Dex slides off a stool and runs to a staircase.
Saara says, HEY, DON'T FORGET YOUR SANDWICH.
[Clinking]
Dex runs back and picks up his sandwich.
Dex says, THANKS, SAARA.
[Clicking, static flickering]
Saara picks up the walkie-talkie.
Speaking into the walkie-talkie, Saara says, HURRY, CAPTAIN. THE SUB IS COLLAPSING.
[Static flickering, Saara chuckling]
Dex runs to the stairs with his sandwich.
[Growling, thudding, alarm blaring, intense music plays]
In the submarine, Dex strides into the control room.
Dex says, RISE, RISE, RISE!
Kayla pulls on the helm, and the submarine rises towards the surface.
[Banging, Kayla exclaiming, hissing]
The submarine shakes.
Kayla says, OKAY, THE SUB CAN'T TAKE MUCH MORE OF THIS!
[Kayla exclaiming, thumping, alarm blaring, hissing, growling, intense music plays ]
Dex runs to the periscope and looks at the viewer. The Albertonectes swims towards the colossal squid and submarine.
Dex says, WE MAY NOT HAVE TO!
[Growling, grunting, squealing, Kayla panting]
The Albertonectes grabs the colossal squid and drags it off the submarine.
Kayla says, IT WORKED! WE'RE FREE!
[Rattling, clunking]
Dex folds the periscope's handles up.
Dex says, SOMETIMES THE BEST DEFENCE AGAINST A PREDATOR IS ANOTHER PREDATOR. OR EVEN BETTER, A GROUP OF PREDATORS THAT WORK TOGETHER, LIKE THE ALBERTONECTES.
[Roaring, upbeat music plays]
In the viewer, an Albertonectes swims past the submarine.
Dex says, RESET COURSE, COMMANDER, AND TAKE US BACK TO OUR UNDERSEA DINO DIG.
Kayla says, AYE, AYE, CAPTAIN!
[Whirring, water bubbling, growling, adventurous music plays]
The submarine dives to the bottom, and a large shark follows it.
Kayla says, APPROACHING BOTTOM.
[Whirring, clinking]
Dex unfolds the handles on the periscope and looks at the viewer.
Dex says, NOW, WHERE WERE WE?
Kayla says, HEY! I THOUGHT YOU SAID I WOULD GET THE NEXT TURN.
[Kayla squeeing, hydraulics whirring, rock clattering, beeping]
Dex lifts his hands and backs away from the periscope. The robot arms move rocks.
Kayla says, I GOT SOMETHING! GRABBING. A TOOTH? THAT'S IT?
The robot arms hold the tooth.
Dex says, THAT'S IT? LOOK AT THE SIZE OF IT! IT COULD BE BIGGER THAN A MEGALODON TOOTH. BUT WE'D HAVE TO COMPARE THEM TO BE SURE.
Kayla asks, WHAT'S A MEGALODON?
Dex replies, YOU'RE JOKING, RIGHT?
Kayla shrugs.
Dex says, ONLY THE LARGEST SHARK THAT EVER EXISTED.
Kayla says, HMM.
[Radar pinging, tense music plays]
Kayla lets go of the periscope, and Dex grabs the handles.
Dex says, DON'T DROP IT!
[Beeping, water bubbling]
Kayla looks at a radar showing a large object approaching the submarine.
Kayla says, DEX?
Dex says, THE MEGALODON WAS LONGER THAN A SCHOOL BUS.
Kayla says, DEX.
Dex says, AND PROBABLY ATE WHALES.
[Beeping continues]
Kayla asks, OR SUBMARINES?
[Crashing, Kayla screaming, squeaking, steam hissing, alarm blaring, intense music plays]
The megalodon shark bites the middle of the submarine, and Kayla falls. The red light illuminates the control room.
Kayla shouts, DEX!
Dex says, I CAN'T LET GO OF OUR DISCOVERY!
[Crashing]
The megalodon chomps on the submarine. Kayla reaches for Dex.
Kayla says, DEX! HELP ME UP!
[Clicking, whirring, whooshing, submarine creaking, Kayla panting, alarm blaring]
Dex lets go of the periscope handles, and the robot arms drop the tooth. The megalodon releases the submarine and knocks it as they swim away. Dex helps Kayla to her feet.
Kayla says, HUH. IS SHE... GONE?
Dex says, NOT NECESSARILY. SOMETIMES, SHARKS WILL TAKE A FIRST BITE JUST TO TEST WHAT THEY'RE EATING. THEN, SWIM AROUND IF THEY WANT MORE.
Kayla asks, DO YOU THINK WE'RE TASTY?
Dex shakes his head.
[Crashing, both screaming, metal creaking, Dex exclaiming, dramatic music plays]
The megalodon attacks the submarine from the side. In the control room, Dex and Kayla fall on the floor.
Kayl asks, WHY ARE WE SO TASTY?
[Screaming, creaking, tapping, beeping]
In the house dining room, Saara looks up at the ceiling. A laptop computer, a textbook and a notebook are open on a table in front of her. She puts her pen on the table and grabs the walkie-talkie and smartphone.
Saara says, OH, COME ON.
[Screaming continues, door creaking, dramatic music plays]
Saara enters Dex’s bedroom and finds Dex and Kayla on the floor.
Saara asks, WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE?
[The music stops]
Kayla says, WE'RE BEING RIPPED APART BY A MEGALODON!
Saara asks, CAN'T THE ALBERTA-WHATEVER HELP YOU OUT AGAIN?
Dex says, A LONG-NECKED ELASMOSAUR AGAINST A PREHISTORIC SHARK?
[Dex scoffing]
Dex says, NO MATCH.
Saara says, UH-HUH.
Kayla shouts, WE'RE NOT GONNA MAKE IT!
Dex shouts, AND WE LOST OUR DISCOVERY!
[Dex and Kayla screaming, dramatic music plays]
Dex and Kayla roll on the floor with their eyes shut.
Kayla shouts, SOMEBODY, HELP US!
Dex shouts, EVERYTHING'S HORRIBLE!
[Both screaming, typing]
Saara lifts her hands. She turns and walks down the hallway to another bedroom. She types on her smartphone.
Saara texts, "I ACCIDENTALLY BROKE YOUR ROYAL TYRRELL MUSEUM AWARD. SORRY, SEESTER."
[Phone ringing]
Saara picks up the award and then puts it back on a dresser. She looks at the smartphone display and smiles.
Saara says, I THOUGHT THAT WOULD GET YOUR ATTENTION.
She looks at Dana’s photograph on the smartphone display.

[Loud thudding]
The submarine shakes.
Dex says, WHOA. THAT'S NOT NOTHING.
[Growling, thudding, dramatic music plays]
On the viewer screen, squid arms reach out of the darkness and grab the submarine. The submarine shakes, and Dex jumps back from the viewer, open-mouthed.
Dex says, REVERSE ENGINES. FULL POWER.
Kayla asks WHAT DID YOU SEE?
Dex says, A SQUID.
Kayla says, THAT DOESN'T SOUND SO BAD.
Dex says, A COLOSSAL SQUID!
Kayla says, YEAH, THAT SOUNDS WORSE.
[Whirring, bubbling, creaking, banging, intense music plays]
The submarine reverses, and the colossal squid sticks to the front. A red light fills the control room.
Kayla says, I CAN'T TAKE IT!
Dex says, SQUIDS HAVE TEN ARMS, EACH WITH HUNDREDS OF STICKY SUCKERS ON THEM.
Kayla says, SO IT'S JUST GONNA STICK TO US.
Dex says, IT USES THEM TO PULL ITS PREY TO ITS BEAK-LIKE MOUTH SO IT CAN TEAR THEM UP!
[Forced laughter from Kayla]
Kayla says, OF COURSE!
[Thudding, creaking]
Dex says, EVASIVE MANEUVERS!
Kayla asks, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Dex replies, JUST MOVE US AROUND A LOT.
[Intense music continues, thudding]
Kayla shouts, AH! THOSE SUCKERS ARE REALLY SUCKING! WHAT DO I DO, DEX?
Over an intercom, Saara says, LUNCH IS READY.
[Clicking]
Speaking into an intercom, Dex says, A LITTLE BUSY RIGHT NOW, SAARA.
[Clinking]
In the kitchen, Saara puts a plate with a sandwich on the counter. She holds a lime green walkie-talkie. Saara has her long, dark brown hair in a braid with tendrils framing her face. She wears a denim vest over a lilac shirt.
Saara says, YEAH, SO AM I. REMEMBER, I'M SUPPOSED TO BE STUDYING RIGHT NOW, NOT BABYSITTING.
In his bedroom, Dex says, WHERE WERE WE? OH, YEAH.
[Spray hissing]
Dex sprays water on Kayla’s face. Kayla sits on a chair by a cardboard control panel with levers and twisted tubes.
Speaking into a walkie-talkie, Kayla says, WE'RE COMING DOWN.
Dex lifts his hands.
Dex says, HMM?
Kayla says, WHAT? I'M HUNGRY.
[Static flickering]
Speaking into a walkie-talkie, Kayla asks, DO YOU HAVE ANY PIZZA OR PASTA?
Speaking into a walkie-talkie, Saara replies, YOUR CHOICE IS GONNA BE SANDWICHES OR SANDWICHES.
[Static flickering, melancholy music plays]
Kayla leaves the room. Dex stops and looks at a photograph on the wall. In it, he sits in a vehicle beside a woman with long, dark hair in a braid. Dex smiles and wears a knit dinosaur over a helmet. Beside him, the woman with the braid gives a thumbs up. In a flashback, Dex’s dad, Oman, carries a roaster with the lid. His mom, Eva, carries two bags.
Oman asks, WHAT TOOK YOU BOTH SO LONG?
Dex and the woman with the braid reply, DINO EXPERIMENT.
[Dinosaur growling, Dex grunting]
In a park, Dex and the woman with the braid duck as a dinosaur lashes out with its tail.
The woman with the braid says, WATCH OUT!
In a car, the woman with the braid says, WE JUST CHASED AROUND A PACK OF RAPTORS IN A BASEBALL DIAMOND.
[Velociraptors squealing]
Two velociraptors run across a baseball diamond.
Dex says, WE MUST PLAY HOUSE OF MAMMAL!
The woman with the braid holds a mirror above her head. A beam of glowing blue light from the mirror engulfs a creature in front of her.
In a car, the woman with the braid says, DISCOVER SOMETHING THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING.
[Crunching, melancholy music continues]
The flashback ends, and Dex leaves his bedroom. In the kitchen, Kayla eats a sandwich.
Dex says, SAARA, YOU JUST INTERRUPTED AN IMPORTANT UNDERSEA DINO DIG.
Dex sits beside Kayla at the counter, and Saara pours him a cup of juice.
Saara says, MAN, I HATE WHEN I DO THAT.
[Cup clunking on the counter]
Kayla says, MORE LIKE YOU JUST SAVED US FROM BEING EATEN BY A GIANT SQUID.
[Container clunking]
Saara puts the juice container down on a different counter.
Dex says, A COLOSSAL SQUID, AND WE WOULD'VE GOTTEN AWAY.
Kayla says, NO, WE WOULDN'T. IT WAS WRAPPED AROUND US LIKE THIS.
[Kayla growling, roaring, Dex exclaiming]
Kayla grabs Dex and shakes him.
Kayla says, AND IT WAS CHEWING ON US LIKE THIS.
[Kayla roaring, Saara chuckling, typing]
Kayla bites into her sandwich. Saara picks up her smartphone and types.
Saara says, OKAY, WELL, LET'S CALL DANA. SHE'LL KNOW HOW TO HELP YOU OUT.
[Dramatic music notes play]
Dex says, NO, DON'T!
[Phone ringing]
Dex says, SHE'S BUSY WITH HER OWN DIG.
Dana, the woman with the braid, says in a recording, HI, YOU'VE REACHED DANA JAIN. I CAN'T COME TO THE PHONE RIGHT NOW…
Saara ends the call.
Saara says, WELL, YOU'RE RIGHT. SHE'S NOT ANSWERING MY CALL.
Dex says, SHE'S ALSO MISSED OUR LAST FOUR SATURDAY DINO EXPERIMENT UPDATES.
Saara says, HEY, WELL, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN HER DREAM TO FIND A NEW DINOSAUR AND NAME IT.
[Kayla gasping, gentle music plays]
Kayla asks, SHE GETS TO NAME IT?
Dex replies, WHOEVER FINDS A NEW DINO GETS NAMING RIGHTS.
Kayla says, LUCKY DANA.
Dex looks down and says, YEAH.
[Typing on the smartphone]
Saara says, HEY. SQUIDS SHOOT OUT INK AS DEFENCE, RIGHT?
[Water bubbling, Kayla gasping]
Saara plays a video on her smartphone of a squid squirting ink.
Kayla says, THAT EXPLAINS THE DARK CLOUD.
[Beeping]
Saara turns off her smartphone and puts it on the counter.
Saara says, WELL, IF YOU CAN'T SHAKE OFF THE SQUID, MAYBE YOU CAN FIND ANOTHER DINO THAT COULD.
Dex says, BUT DINOS DON'T SWIM DEEP UNDERWATER.
Saara says, WELL, ANOTHER UNDERWATER PREHISTORIC MARINE REPTILE.
Dex and Kayla look at each other.
Kayla says, UH...
Saara says, I USED TO LISTEN TO DANA TALK ABOUT THIS ALL THE TIME.
Dex says, I DON'T KNOW.
[Thumping]
Saara moves plastic containers on the counter.
Saara says, "I DON'T KNOW"? THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A PALEONTOLOGIST IN TRAINING.
Dex says, I GUESS WE COULD TEST YOUR THEORY.
[Saara chuckling]
Saara says, THAT'S BETTER.
Kayla asks, WHICH PREHISTORIC MARINE REPTILE WOULD WE USE?
Kayla whispers, UM, AND ARE YOU GONNA FINISH YOUR SANDWICH?
[Dex chuckling]
Dex puts half of his sandwich on Kayla’s plate.
[Roaring, whooshing, upbeat music plays]
An Albertonectes swims in the sky past a window.
Dex says, ALBERTONECTES! COME ON, KAYLA. WE'VE GOT TO GET RID OF THAT SQUID SO WE CAN GET BACK TO OUR OWN DISCOVERY.
Dex slides off a stool and runs to a staircase.
Saara says, HEY, DON'T FORGET YOUR SANDWICH.
[Clinking]
Dex runs back and picks up his sandwich.
Dex says, THANKS, SAARA.
[Clicking, static flickering]
Saara picks up the walkie-talkie.
Speaking into the walkie-talkie, Saara says, HURRY, CAPTAIN. THE SUB IS COLLAPSING.
[Static flickering, Saara chuckling]
Dex runs to the stairs with his sandwich.
[Growling, thudding, alarm blaring, intense music plays]
In the submarine, Dex strides into the control room.
Dex says, RISE, RISE, RISE!
Kayla pulls on the helm, and the submarine rises towards the surface.
[Banging, Kayla exclaiming, hissing]
The submarine shakes.
Kayla says, OKAY, THE SUB CAN'T TAKE MUCH MORE OF THIS!
[Kayla exclaiming, thumping, alarm blaring, hissing, growling, intense music plays ]
Dex runs to the periscope and looks at the viewer. The Albertonectes swims towards the colossal squid and submarine.
Dex says, WE MAY NOT HAVE TO!
[Growling, grunting, squealing, Kayla panting]
The Albertonectes grabs the colossal squid and drags it off the submarine.
Kayla says, IT WORKED! WE'RE FREE!
[Rattling, clunking]
Dex folds the periscope's handles up.
Dex says, SOMETIMES THE BEST DEFENCE AGAINST A PREDATOR IS ANOTHER PREDATOR. OR EVEN BETTER, A GROUP OF PREDATORS THAT WORK TOGETHER, LIKE THE ALBERTONECTES.
[Roaring, upbeat music plays]
In the viewer, an Albertonectes swims past the submarine.
Dex says, RESET COURSE, COMMANDER, AND TAKE US BACK TO OUR UNDERSEA DINO DIG.
Kayla says, AYE, AYE, CAPTAIN!
[Whirring, water bubbling, growling, adventurous music plays]
The submarine dives to the bottom, and a large shark follows it.
Kayla says, APPROACHING BOTTOM.
[Whirring, clinking]
Dex unfolds the handles on the periscope and looks at the viewer.
Dex says, NOW, WHERE WERE WE?
Kayla says, HEY! I THOUGHT YOU SAID I WOULD GET THE NEXT TURN.
[Kayla squeeing, hydraulics whirring, rock clattering, beeping]
Dex lifts his hands and backs away from the periscope. The robot arms move rocks.
Kayla says, I GOT SOMETHING! GRABBING. A TOOTH? THAT'S IT?
The robot arms hold the tooth.
Dex says, THAT'S IT? LOOK AT THE SIZE OF IT! IT COULD BE BIGGER THAN A MEGALODON TOOTH. BUT WE'D HAVE TO COMPARE THEM TO BE SURE.
Kayla asks, WHAT'S A MEGALODON?
Dex replies, YOU'RE JOKING, RIGHT?
Kayla shrugs.
Dex says, ONLY THE LARGEST SHARK THAT EVER EXISTED.
Kayla says, HMM.
[Radar pinging, tense music plays]
Kayla lets go of the periscope, and Dex grabs the handles.
Dex says, DON'T DROP IT!
[Beeping, water bubbling]
Kayla looks at a radar showing a large object approaching the submarine.
Kayla says, DEX?
Dex says, THE MEGALODON WAS LONGER THAN A SCHOOL BUS.
Kayla says, DEX.
Dex says, AND PROBABLY ATE WHALES.
[Beeping continues]
Kayla asks, OR SUBMARINES?
[Crashing, Kayla screaming, squeaking, steam hissing, alarm blaring, intense music plays]
The megalodon shark bites the middle of the submarine, and Kayla falls. The red light illuminates the control room.
Kayla shouts, DEX!
Dex says, I CAN'T LET GO OF OUR DISCOVERY!
[Crashing]
The megalodon chomps on the submarine. Kayla reaches for Dex.
Kayla says, DEX! HELP ME UP!
[Clicking, whirring, whooshing, submarine creaking, Kayla panting, alarm blaring]
Dex lets go of the periscope handles, and the robot arms drop the tooth. The megalodon releases the submarine and knocks it as they swim away. Dex helps Kayla to her feet.
Kayla says, HUH. IS SHE... GONE?
Dex says, NOT NECESSARILY. SOMETIMES, SHARKS WILL TAKE A FIRST BITE JUST TO TEST WHAT THEY'RE EATING. THEN, SWIM AROUND IF THEY WANT MORE.
Kayla asks, DO YOU THINK WE'RE TASTY?
Dex shakes his head.
[Crashing, both screaming, metal creaking, Dex exclaiming, dramatic music plays]
The megalodon attacks the submarine from the side. In the control room, Dex and Kayla fall on the floor.
Kayl asks, WHY ARE WE SO TASTY?
[Screaming, creaking, tapping, beeping]
In the house dining room, Saara looks up at the ceiling. A laptop computer, a textbook and a notebook are open on a table in front of her. She puts her pen on the table and grabs the walkie-talkie and smartphone.
Saara says, OH, COME ON.
[Screaming continues, door creaking, dramatic music plays]
Saara enters Dex’s bedroom and finds Dex and Kayla on the floor.
Saara asks, WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE?
[The music stops]
Kayla says, WE'RE BEING RIPPED APART BY A MEGALODON!
Saara asks, CAN'T THE ALBERTA-WHATEVER HELP YOU OUT AGAIN?
Dex says, A LONG-NECKED ELASMOSAUR AGAINST A PREHISTORIC SHARK?
[Dex scoffing]
Dex says, NO MATCH.
Saara says, UH-HUH.
Kayla shouts, WE'RE NOT GONNA MAKE IT!
Dex shouts, AND WE LOST OUR DISCOVERY!
[Dex and Kayla screaming, dramatic music plays]
Dex and Kayla roll on the floor with their eyes shut.
Kayla shouts, SOMEBODY, HELP US!
Dex shouts, EVERYTHING'S HORRIBLE!
[Both screaming, typing]
Saara lifts her hands. She turns and walks down the hallway to another bedroom. She types on her smartphone.
Saara texts, "I ACCIDENTALLY BROKE YOUR ROYAL TYRRELL MUSEUM AWARD. SORRY, SEESTER."
[Phone ringing]
Saara picks up the award and then puts it back on a dresser. She looks at the smartphone display and smiles.
Saara says, I THOUGHT THAT WOULD GET YOUR ATTENTION.
She looks at Dana’s photograph on the smartphone display.
[Upbeat theme music plays]
