Daniel dances in the studio.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, a gray TVO Kids T-shirt and an unbuttoned denim shirt.

Daniel says WELCOME BACK
TO
TVOK NEWS.
NOW, OUR FEATURE STORY TODAY
CAN BE SUMMED UP IN THREE WORDS:
CUTE, CUTE,
AND CUTE.
OKAY, THAT'S ONE WORD
THREE TIMES,
BUT YOU'LL SEE
WHAT I MEAN.

On a screen behind him appears a picture of a momma rhino and its baby.

Daniel says LET'S TAKE A LOOK
AT ONE OF THE NEWEST BABIES
AT TORONTO ZOO.

A clip rolls on the screen with the caption "María. Toronto Zoo."

María is in her forties, with straight blond hair in a ponytail and wears a black turtleneck sweater and a black jacket.

She says HI, I'M MARIA FRANKE,
I'M THE CURATOR OF MAMMALS
HERE AT THE TORONTO ZOO,
AND WE'VE VERY EXCITED
TO SHOW YOU OUR NEW BABY GREATER
ONE-HORNED RHINOCEROS.

A clip shows the baby rhino eating leaves.

María says THE BABY RHINO WAS ACTUALLY
BORN HERE AT TORONTO ZOO,
AND HE WAS ACTUALLY BORN
ON JANUARY 4TH.
AND IT WAS ACTUALLY
MY BIRTHDAY, TOO.
SO WE'VE GOT A LOT IN COMMON,
WE'RE BOTH CAPRICORNS.
AND HE'S FULL OF SPIT
AND VINEGAR.
HIS MOTHER ASHA
IS 13 YEARS OLD.
THEY'RE ACTUALLY HERBIVOROUS,
WHICH MEANS THAT
THEY EAT PLANT MATTER,
SO IN THE WILD THEY WOULD EAT
A LOT OF GRASSES, AND BROWSE,
SUCH AS BRANCH TWIGS,
ETCETERA.
SO WE TRY TO FEED THEM
A SIMILAR DIET HERE AT THE ZOO.
THERE'S ACTUALLY FIVE
DIFFERENT SPECIES OF RHINO,
THERE'S THE GREATER ONE-HORNED,
THE WHITE,
THE BLACK,
THE SUMATRAN, AND THE JAVAN.

Pictures of the different species appear on screen.

María says THREE OF THOSE SPECIES ARE
ACTUALLY LISTED
AS CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
SO THE REALLY,
REALLY IMPORTANT THING
ABOUT THE BIRTH OF
OUR RHINO CALVES,
WE ACTUALLY HAVE A WHITE RHINO
CALF AS WELL AS
OUR GREATER ONE-HORNED,
IS THEY ARE ACTUALLY LISTED
AS VULNERABLE AND THREATENED.
THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THAT
IS LOSS OF HABITAT.

A caption reads "Poaching means illegal hunting."

María says ANOTHER BIG THREAT
IS POACHING,
AND THAT'S REALLY,
REALLY UNFORTUNATE,
AND WE HAVE TO DO AS MUCH AS WE
CAN TO EDUCATE PEOPLE
THAT THESE SPECIES
ARE PRECIOUS
AND WE NEED TO KEEP THEM ON THIS
PLANET FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
PLEASE COME AND VISIT
THE ZOO THIS WEEK,
WE'RE SO EXCITED BECAUSE OUR
GREATER ONE-HORNED RHINO CALF
AND HIS MOM ASHA
WILL BE ON EXHIBIT
FOR YOU TO SEE AND ENJOY.
AND WE CAN EDUCATE YOU
AND HAVE AMAZING INTERACTIVES
WHERE YOU CAN LEARN EVERYTHING
YOU WANNA KNOW ABOUT RHINOS
HERE AT THE ZOO.

Back in the studio, Daniel says WHOA, NOW RHINOS ARE ONE OF
MY FAVOURITE ANIMALS,
SO I CAN'T WAIT TO GO TO THE ZOO
TO SEE THE LITTLE GUY
AND LEARN MORE
ABOUT HIM.
WELL, THAT'S IT
FOR
TVOK NEWS.
I'M YOUR NEWS ANCHOR,
DANIEL,
AND THAT'S WHAT'S
HAPPENING.
