Daniel walks in the studio.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, and a blue and gray TVO Kids T-shirt hooded sweatshirt.

He says WELCOME BACK TO
TVOK NEWS.
I'M YOUR NEWS ANCHOR,
DANIEL,
AND TODAY'S FEATURE
IS ALL ABOUT AN ORGANIZATION
THAT IS FUNDRAISING
AND BRINGING AWARENESS
FOR KIDS WITH DISABILITIES.
IT'S CALLED CAPES FOR KIDS.
THE PRESIDENT AND CEO OF
HOLLAND BLOORVIEW FOUNDATION,
SANDRA HAWKEN,
WANTS YOU TO MEET
AN AMAZING SUPERHERO.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK.

A clip rolls on a screen behind him.

Sandra is in her thirties, with long slightly wavy brown hair and wears a black sweater and a red superhero cape.

She says CAPES FOR KIDS IS HOLLAND
BLOORVIEW'S ANNUAL FUNDRAISER,
WHERE WE INVITE MEMBERS OF
THE COMMUNITY TO WEAR A CAPE
AND JOIN FORCES WITH THE HEROES
OF HOLLAND BLOORVIEW
TO HELP RAISE FUNDS
AND AWARENESS
FOR KIDS WITH DISABILITIES.
SANDRA: CAPES FOR KIDS HELPS
KIDS LIKE PENELOPE.

A caption reads "Penelope. 4 years old."

Penelope has straight blond hair and wears a plaid jacket.

She says HI.

The caption changes to "Penelope's mom."

Penelope's mom is in her thirties, with above the shoulder straight pink hair and wears a black and white polka dotted blouse.

PENELOPE IS A VERY HAPPY,
ENERGETIC,
FRIENDLY LITTLE GIRL.
SHE'S JUST FULL OF LIFE
AND LOVE,
AND I THINK PEOPLE
ARE REALLY DRAWN TO THAT.

At the playground, she says SEE YOU!
SEE YOU!

Mom says BECAUSE SHE'S MISSING PART OF
HER 10TH CHROMOSOME,
PART OF THAT MEANS
THAT IT TAKES HER LONGER
TO LEARN HOW TO DO THINGS.
SO THINGS LIKE WALKING,
WE WEREN'T SURE IF SHE WOULD
EVER BE ABLE TO WALK.
BUT NOW, NOT ONLY CAN SHE WALK,
BUT SHE CAN RUN,
AND JUMP,
AND CLIMB.
SO HER HEAD AND HER BRAIN
ARE SMALLER,
AND SO THAT'S PART
OF THE REASON WHY
IT TAKES HER LONGER
TO LEARN HOW TO DO THINGS.

Mom says WHERE'S MOMMY?

Penelope points at her picture in a chart.

Mom says YEAH.
SHE CAN EXPRESS HERSELF,
WHERE SHE COULDN'T BEFORE.
WHERE DO YOU THINK
THEY'RE GOING THERE?

Penelope says HOME.

Mom says SO SHE COULDN'T TELL US WHEN SHE
DIDN'T WANT TO DO SOMETHING,
SO INSTEAD SHE WOULD JUST CRY
AND CRY AND CRY,
WE WOULDN'T REALLY KNOW
WHAT WAS WRONG.
BUT NOW, WHEN SHE DOESN'T WANNA
DO SOMETHING,
SHE CAN SAY,
"NO, DON'T WANT TO."
AND THERE'S NO TEARS,
AND WE KNOW WHAT
SHE IS THINKING,
WHICH IS A REALLY BIG THING
FOR US TO SEE.
LET'S SEE, CAN YOU MAKE IT
TALLER, DO YOU THINK?

Penelope says NO, NO, NO!

Mom says NO NO? NO?
I REALLY DON'T KNOW
WHERE WE WOULD BE TODAY
WITHOUT HOLLAND BLOORVIEW.
IT'S BECAUSE OF THEM THAT SHE'S
LEARNED HOW TO TALK,
AND WALK,
AND DO ALL OF THESE THINGS
THAT SHE COULDN'T DO BEFORE.
SO WE FEEL VERY,
VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE A FACILITY
LIKE HOLLAND BLOORVIEW
TO HELP US, AND HELP PENELOPE.

Penelope hugs her mom.

Mom says AWW, THANK YOU.

Daniel says WHAT AN AMAZING STORY.
NOW, CAPES FOR KIDS RUNS FROM
MARCH 5TH TO THE 11TH.
ASK YOUR PARENTS TO CHECK OUT
CAPESFORKIDS.CA
TO FIND OUT HOW
TO GET INVOLVED.
WELL TVO KIDS,
THAT'S ALL FOR ME TODAY.
THANKS FOR WATCHING
TVOK NEWS.
I'M DANIEL,
AND THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING.
