Transcript: TVOK News - Week of Oct. 17 Pt. 2
An animated white ball that reads "TVO" creates colourful concentric circles. Then, an orange circle that reads "K news" adds to it.
Daniel appears. A moving yellow band at the lower part of the screen reads "TVO Kids News."
He is in his late twenties has short black hair. He wears glasses, a dark red and white TVO Kids hoodie and dark purple trousers.
(background music plays)
Daniel walks in doing a robot dance and says WELCOME BACK TO
TVOK NEWS.
OH, DON'T MIND ME,
JUST GETTING MY ROBOT DANCE ON.
The picture of a silver robot appears in a window on the top right corner of the screen. A caption reads "ATLAS."
He continues NOW, YOU KNOW THAT ROBOTS CAN DO
SOME REALLY AMAZING THINGS,
LIKE WALK AND RUN,
JUMP, AND EVEN DANCE.
BUT WHAT HAPPENS
WHEN THEY ARE ACTUALLY
DOING IT BETTER
THAN HUMANS?
MEET BOSTON DYNAMICS'
HUMANOID ROBOT, ATLAS.
THIS ROBOT CAN WALK IN SNOW
AND ROUGH TERRAIN,
PICK UP AND MOVE
STUFF AROUND,
AND IT CAN EVEN
DO BACKFLIPS,
SOMETHING THAT MOST
HUMANS CAN'T DO.
Fast clips show the robot performing the actions mentioned.
He continues IN THIS NEW VIDEO, YOU SEE ATLAS
MOVING UP A PLATFORM,
AND SHIFTING ITS WEIGHT
FROM ONE LEG TO THE NEXT
WHILE IT RUNS UP STEPS.
BALANCING ON TWO LEGS TAKES
A LOT OF DYNAMIC SENSING
AND CONTROL, WHICH IS VERY
DIFFICULT FOR ROBOTS WITH LEGS.
WITHOUT GOOD BALANCING
CAPABILITIES,
ATLAS WOULD NOT BE ABLE
TO DO ANY OF THIS.
AMAZING,
BUT A LITTLE FREAKY, RIGHT?
WELL,
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
ATLAS IS STILL MAINLY
CONTROLLED BY HUMANS.
IN UNFAMILIAR SITUATIONS,
ATLAS IS MORE LIKELY
TO TRIP AND FALL.
THIS IS GOOD TO KNOW,
BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE
I WOULD BE ABLE
TO OUTRUN THIS ROBOT.
BUT I THINK I COULD TAKE IT
IN A DANCE BATTLE.
Doing the robot dance, he concludes BRING IT ON,
ATLAS.
