(upbeat music playing)

An animation shows the colourful TVO Kids News logo against a white background.

Lucas is in his twenties, with short brown hair and wears brown trousers, a purple zip jacket and a gray striped TVO Kids T-shirt.

Lucas says WELCOME BACK TO OUR
TVOK NEWS
FEATURE.
OKAY, SO WE KNOW THAT SOCKS ARE
COMFY, SOCKS ARE WARM,
WE EVEN WEAR SOCKS ON OUR FEET
TO MAKE THEM LOOK GOOD.
NOW, WHAT IF A SIMPLE
THING LIKE SOCKS
COULD BRING AWARENESS TO
A SPECIAL CAUSE?
NOW, THAT WOULD BE SOME
PRETTY COOL SOCKS.
LET'S CHECK IN WITH
THE SOCK PROJECT.

He turns around to watch a clip that plays on a small window on the top right corner of the screen.

A caption reads "Jessica Baird." Jessica is in her early thirties, with long brown straight hair. She wears a striped black and white dress and a long necklace.

In the clip, Jessica says MY NAME IS JESSICA, AND I'M THE
FOUNDER OF THE SOCK PROJECT.
THE SOCK PROJECT IS A PROJECT
THAT I STARTED
TO HELP PEOPLE LIVING WITH
AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
AND CHRONIC ILLNESS.
AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE
IS A DISEASE
THAT MAKES YOU
FEEL UNWELL AT TIMES.
IT COMES AND IT GOES.
KIND OF LIKE WHEN YOU
HAVE THE FLU.
ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS,
WHICH IS THE AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE
THAT I LIVE WITH,
IS ALSO KNOW KNOWN AS THE
"DINOSAUR DISEASE,"
BECAUSE IT COMES FROM
THE ANKLYOSAURUS.
I LIKE TO WHERE MY
ANKLYOSAURUS SOCKS
BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS ME
AND MY DINOSAUR DISEASE.

Pictures show dinosaurs and different socks.

Lucas says TO GET THROUGH HER BATTLE,
JESSICA APPEALED TO
FRIENDS AND FAMILY
TO SEND HER 365 PAIRS
OF SILLY SOCKS.
ONE FOR EACH DAY OF THE YEAR.

Jessica says I GOT THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS
OF SOCKS GIVEN TO ME,
AND NOW I MEET PEOPLE
WITH ILLNESS,
AND GIVE THEM SOCKS TO
BRIGHTEN THEIR DAY.
MY AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE
EFFECTS MY HANDS,
MY BACK, MY KNEES,
AND MY EYES.
I WANTED TO BRING AWARENESS
TO AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT
VERY WELL KNOW.
MANY PEOPLE SUFFER
AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES,
AND HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN LIVE
WITH THESE DISEASES, EVERYDAY.
IF YOU EVER WANT TO HELP
YOURSELF AND YOUR COMMUNITY,
GO FOR IT.
THERE'S LOTS OF WAYS
THAT YOU CAN HELP.
I'VE HAD LOTS OF PEOPLE HELP ME
THROUGH MY DIFFICULT TIMES,
ENCOURAGING ME TO DO WHATEVER I
WANT TO DO TO HELP THE WORLD,
AND YOU CAN, TOO.

The clip ends.

Lucas says INCREDIBLE!
JESSICA TURNED HER OWN
STRUGGLES INTO A WAY TO
LET OTHERS KNOW WHAT IS
GOING ON IN THE WORLD.
HEY, IF YOU WANNA HELP,
ASK YOUR PARENTS TO CHECK OUT
JESSICA'S SOCK PROJECT
ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
AND DON'T FORGET,
IF YOU HAVE AN AWESOME STORY YOU
THINK WE NEED TO SHARE,
WRITE TO US AT
TVOK NEWS.
MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, IT WILL END
UP HERE ON
TVOK NEWS.
I'M LUCAS, SEE YOU NEXT TIME.
