Daniel walks in the studio.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, a blue TVO Kids T-shirt and an orange hoodie.

He says HELLO, AND WELCOME BACK
TO TVO K NEWS.
NOW, LET'S TALK ABOUT
OUR ENVIRONMENT
FOR A LITTLE BIT.

On a screen behind him appears a picture of factory chimneys emitting fumes with the caption "Enviro-Action."

Daniel says DO YOU KNOW ABOUT
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S
CARBON PRICING PLAN?
DON'T WORRY IF YOU DON'T.
YOU'RE NOT ALONE.
'CAUSE ACCORDING TO A NEW POLL
ALMOST 40 PERCENT OF CANADIANS
ARE UNAWARE OF THE PLAN TO PUT
A PRICE ON CARBON EMISSIONS.
AND 53 PERCENT SAID THEY WOULDN'T
CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOUR
TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT.
BUT WHY?
MAYBE BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE FEELING
A BIT OVERWHELMED
WITH WHAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP.
SO LET'S GO THROUGH WHAT PEOPLE
ARE DOING AROUND THE WORLD.
IN THE PHILIPPINES,
A 23-YEAR-OLD INVENTOR
HAS CREATED A CHEAP SOLUTION
TO HELP SOLVE THE HOUSING CRISIS
AND TO PROVIDE AN
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY HOME.
FOR JUST 64 DOLLARS
AND FOUR HOURS TO BUILD
HIS HOUSING DESIGN USES BAMBOO
WHICH RELEASES 35 PERCENT MORE OXYGEN
THAN TREES
AND IT GROWS FASTER,
MAKING IT MORE SUSTAINABLE.
NOW, IN INDIA,
A HUGE CAUSE OF AIR POLLUTION
IS THE BURNING OF RICE STRAW.
NOW, RICE STRAW
IS A BY-PRODUCT OF RICE
MEANING WE DON'T REALLY USE IT.
SO TRADITIONALLY
FARMERS WOULD BURN THIS CROP
WHICH HEAVILY POLLUTED THE AIR.
AS A SOLUTION,
THE SWEDISH FURNITURE STORE IKEA
PLANS TO COLLECT THE RICE STRAW
AND DEVELOP A NEW LINE
OF FURNITURE
TO HELP REDUCE THE POLLUTION.
SO COOL!
SO, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP?
WE WANT TO SPOTLIGHT
KIDS OUT THERE
WHO ARE MAKING STEPS
TO HELP OUR ENVIRONMENT,
WHETHER IT'S AS SMALL AS
USING REUSABLE BAGS
AT THE GROCERY STORE
OR AS BIG AS PUTTING TOGETHER
A COMMUNITY CLEANUP TEAM.
WE WANT TO KNOW.
GO TO TVOKIDS.COM AND e-mail US
AND MAYBE ONE DAY YOU COULD BE
OUR NEXT FEATURED STORY.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE TVO K NEWS
COMING UP NEXT.
