Daniel walks in the studio.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, a gray TVO Kids T-shirt with burgundy rims and a burnt orange hoodie.

He says WELCOME TO
TVOK NEWS.
I'M YOUR NEWS ANCHOR,
DANIEL,
AND THIS IS
WHAT'S HAPPENING.

On a screen behind him appears a screen with a picture of a building on fire and the caption "Community Center Fire."

Daniel says A FIRE BROKE OUT IN
SCARBOROUGH'S
AGINCOURT COMMUNITY CENTRE
LAST THURSDAY.
THIS FIRE WAS HUGE,
IT TOOK 40 HOURS
TO COMPLETELY EXTINGUISH.
HOLD UP,
WAIT A MINUTE,
A 40-HOUR FIRE?
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
WELL, IT WAS BECAUSE OF
THE EXTREME COLD WEATHER.
THE PUMPER TRUCKS
WERE FREEZING UP,
AND HAD TO BE PULLED
FROM SERVICE.
ALSO, THE BURNING ROOF
WAS OVER THE SWIMMING POOL AREA,
WHICH MEANT THE FIRE HAD TO BE
FOUGHT FROM OUTSIDE.
THE THICKNESS OF THE ROOF
ALSO MADE IT DIFFICULT
FOR CREWS TO PUT OUT
THE FIRE.
EVEN A HEAT-SEEKING DRONE WAS
BROUGHT IN TO HELP PIN-POINT
WHERE THE HOTTEST POINTS
OF THE FIRE WERE.
NOW, TORONTO MAYOR JOHN TORY
HAS VOWED THAT
THE COMMUNITY CENTRE WILL BE
REBUILT AS SOON AS IT CAN.
PROGRAMS WILL BE RE-DIRECTED
TO OTHER FACILITIES
AROUND THE CITY.
THE GOOD NEWS IS DESPITE
HOW BIG THE FIRE WAS,
NOBODY WAS HURT,
AND THE DAMAGE SEEMS TO BE
MOSTLY IN THE SWIMMING AREA.
COMMUNITY CENTRES LIKE THIS ONE
ARE A MAJOR PUBLIC PLACE
FOR EVERYONE,
NOT JUST KIDS.
THINK IF THIS HAPPENED
IN YOUR AREA,
AND THE KINDS OF THINGS
THAT WOULD BE MISSING,
LIKE SKATING, SWIMMING,
DANCING, PLAYGROUPS,
LOCAL CLUBS LIKE
BROWNIES OR SCOUTS,
PROGRAMS FOR SENIORS,
INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES,
AND NEWCOMERS TO THE CITY.
THIS IS A MAJOR HIT TO THE
PEOPLE OF THIS NEIGHBORHOOD,
BUT WE ALSO KNOW
THAT TRAGEDIES
CAN BRING OUT THE BEST
IN A COMMUNITY.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE
TVOK NEWS,
COMING UP NEXT.
