Daniel walks in the studio.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, and a cream and burgundy TVO Kids hooded sweatshirt.

Daniel says WELCOME TO
TVOK NEWS.
I'M YOUR NEWS ANCHOR, DANIEL,
AND THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING.
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A BLACK CAT
CROSS YOUR PATH?
SOME SAY IT'S BAD LUCK.
WELL, THEN, HAVE YOU EVER HAD
A BLACK LEOPARD CROSS YOUR PATH?
THAT KINDA NEVER HAPPENS,
UNTIL RECENTLY.

On a screen behind him appears a picture of a black leopard and a caption that reads "Rare black leopard sighting."

He says THE FIRST SUPER-RARE
BLACK LEOPARD
WAS SPOTTED
IN KENYA, AFRICA.
THE LAST CONFIRMED SIGHTING
WAS BACK IN 1909
IN ETHIOPIA.
THIS VIDEO GIVES US AN UP-CLOSE
VIEW OF THIS UNIQUE ANIMAL.
SOMETIMES CALLED
A BLACK PANTHER,
BLACK LEOPARDS HAVE BECOME
A KIND OF MYTHICAL TALE.
AND THAT'S KIND OF FUNNY,
BECAUSE YOU WOULD THINK
THAT THEIR ULTRA-SHINY,
BLACK COATS WOULD MAKE THEM
VERY EASY TO SEE, ESPECIALLY IN
DESERT-LIKE CONDITIONS
IN PARTS OF KENYA.
SO HOW IS IT THAT BLACK LEOPARDS
ARE SO HARD TO FIND?
WELL, FIRST, BLACK LEOPARDS HAVE
A COOL MELANISM GENE.
THIS GIVES THEIR SKIN,
OR HAIR, THEIR BLACK APPEARANCE.
SO BASICALLY, IN KENYA,
BLACK LEOPARDS HAVE ADAPTED
TO BEING NOCTURNAL, MEANING THAT
THEY ARE AWAKE AT NIGHT,
AND THEREFORE VERY DIFFICULT
TO SEE.
SECONDLY, BLACK LEOPARDS
ARE ALSO VERY RARE,
BECAUSE OF HABITAT LOSS AND THE
DECLINE IN THEIR FOOD SUPPLY,
OR THE PREY THEY EAT.
SO THERE REALLY AREN'T
THAT MANY OF THEM AROUND.

(ANIMAL GROWLING)

Daniel says WAIT, WHAT WAS THAT?
DID YOU HEAR THAT?
OKAY, TVO KIDS,
STICK AROUND,
BECAUSE THERE'S MORE TO COME
ON
TVOK NEWS,

He crosses his fingers and says I HOPE.
