[Birds chirping]
Olga narrates, KAREN AND I ARE THE BEST OF FRIENDS. I ALWAYS MISS HER WHEN SHE HEADS OFF TO SAWDUST SCHOOL.
Karen and Mrs. Sawdust walk across the yard from the back gate to the driveway. Olga nibbles on a blade of grass.
Olga narrates, BUT THERE WAS ONCE A TIME DAISY AND I GOT READY TO GO TO SCHOOL, TOO.
On the other side of the stone half-wall near the hutch, Fangio sits in the grass under the park bench.
[Fangio humming]
Elsewhere in the yard, Graham wanders across the grass.
[Graham humming]
Noel lies on the grass and licks his paw.
[Noel purring]
Olga narrates, IT ALL BEGAN LATE ONE SUMMER'S DAY.
In a live-action flashback, Olga stands in a corner of the guinea pig run, a large pen, in the middle of the yard. Karen lies on the ground facing Olga. Karen wears her long brown hair in braided pigtails and purple overalls over a pink long-sleeved shirt with orange polka dots. Karen feeds Olga a grass blade through the pen's wire wall.
Karen says, THERE YOU GO. SOME YUMMY GRASS.
[Door opening]
Mrs. Sawdust calls out, KAREN! YOU NEED TO COME AND TRY ON YOUR UNIFORM.
Mrs. Sawdust stands at the back door. She has long, light brown hair and wears a green long-sleeved shirt.
Mrs. Sawdust says, WE NEED TO CHECK IT STILL FITS FOR SCHOOL TOMORROW.
Karen glances at Mrs. Sawdust and stands.
Karen says, OKAY!
Karen looks back at Olga in the pen.
Karen says, OH, I'M GOING TO MISS YOU. IT'S BEEN FUN BEING TOGETHER.
Olga narrates, IT CERTAINLY HAD. WE'D BEEN WITH KAREN ALL SUMMER LONG.
Daisy lies in the shade near a wooden guinea pig hideaway.
Karen says, I WISH YOU COULD COME TO SCHOOL WITH ME.
Mrs. Sawdust calls, KAREN!
Karen yells, COMING!
Karen closes an opening in the pen's roof and skips toward the house.
Olga narrates, WELL, I'D BEEN TO SCHOOL WITH KAREN BEFORE AND I COULD CERTAINLY DO IT AGAIN. THIS WAS GOING TO BE FUN.
[Light, cheerful music plays]
Olga scurries behind the wooden hideaway. People drive on a hill. Elsewhere in the backyard, Fangio wanders toward a pile of dry leaves.
[Fangio humming]
Graham climbs down the ramp of his hutch.
[Graham humming]
In the pen, Olga says, SO, KAREN WANTS ME AND DAISY TO GO TO SCHOOL WITH HER SO SHE WON'T MISS US.
Noel sits near one of the box gardens facing the pen.
Noel says, GUINEA PIGS DON'T GO TO SCHOOL.
Olga says, THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE WRONG, NOEL. BECAUSE I WENT TO SCHOOL WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GUINEA PIG. THAT'S WHY I KNOW SO MUCH.
In the guinea pig hideaway, Daisy says, I WISH I'D GONE TO GUINEA PIG SCHOOL.
Olga says, I STILL REMEMBER IT NOW. IT WAS CALLED "GUINEA PIG HOUSE".
[School bell ringing]
In an animated story, three guinea pig students, including Olga, sit at their desks in a classroom. They wear purple blazers and ties.
Olga narrates, EVERY DAY, WE HAD LOTS OF INTERESTING CLASSES.
A guinea pig teacher stands in front of a chalkboard with drawings of a carrot, a head of lettuce, and grass.
[Guinea pig teacher squeaking]
Olga narrates, LIKE GUINEA PIG NUTRITION, AND DANDELION SCIENCE.
As a student, Olga examines a piece of lettuce with a microscope. A black-and-white guinea pig then bites into it.
[Munching]
[Guinea pig squeaking]
Olga narrates, AND MY FAVOURITE, GUINEA PIG LANGUAGES.
At their desks, the guinea pig students review their notes.
[Guinea pigs squeaking]
Olga narrates, OF COURSE, I GRADUATED WITH FLYING COLOURS.
As a student, Olga wears a graduation cap and gown.
[Applause]
Olga narrates, AND I EVEN GOT THE SCHOOL AWARD FOR BEST STORYTELLER.
As a student, Olga unrolls an award. A drawing on the award shows a guinea pig telling a story about a fire-breathing dragon.
[Audience cheering]
The guinea pig students throw their graduation caps in the air.
[Guinea pig students squeaking and cheering]
The story ends. In the live-action flashback, Daisy stands near a food dish in the corner of the pen.
Daisy says, OH, OLGA! YOU'RE AMAZING!
[Noel scoffing]
Noel says, RIDICULOUS. THAT'S HARDLY THE SAME AS SAWDUST SCHOOL. THEY DO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS.
Olga stops nibbling on the grass and looks up toward Noel.
Noel says, I HEAR THEM TALKING ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME.
Olga asks, LIKE WHAT?
Noel says, WELL, GEOGRAPHY WHERE THEY LEARN ABOUT THE WORLD AND P.E. THAT'S SPORTS.
Olga says, WELL, GUINEA PIGS ARE VERY QUICK LEARNERS, UNLIKE CATS. WE'LL BE TOP OF THE CLASS.
Noel says, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.
[Gentle music plays]
Olga nibbles on a blade of grass.
Olga narrates, I DIDN'T WANT TO ADMIT IT, BUT I WAS A BIT WORRIED. GEOGRAPHY? AND SPORTS! DAISY AND I HAD SOME HOMEWORK TO DO.
Olga scurries out of the sun and into the shade. In the backyard, Fangio wanders around a potted plant near the stone half-wall.
[Fangio sniffing]
At the bottom of his hutch ramp, Graham crawls onto the grass.
[Graham humming]
In the house, Mrs. Sawdust stands beside Mr. Sawdust in the living room. Mr. Sawdust has short, dark grey hair and a thick, grey beard. He wears a red plaid, button-down shirt over a blue T-shirt. Karen wears her school uniform, a grey dress that fits tight over a short-sleeved yellow polo shirt.
Karen says, IT'S TINY.
Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust share a look.
Mr. Sawdust says, MUST HAVE DONE A LOT OF GROWING THIS SUMMER.
Mrs. Sawdust says, MUST HAVE BEEN ALL THOSE VEGGIES YOU'VE BEEN EATING.
Mr. Sawdust says, ALMOST AS MUCH AS OLGA AND DAISY.
Karen says, OH, I'LL MISS THEM.
Mr. Sawdust says, THEY'LL BE WAITING FOR YOU. READY TO SQUEAK LIKE MAD WHEN YOU GET HOME.
[Mr. Sawdust imitating a guinea pig squeaking]
[Karen giggling]
Mrs. Sawdust says, COME ON. LET'S GO AND GET YOU ANOTHER ONE.
Karen takes Mrs. Sawdust’s hand, and they leave the living room.
[Gentle music plays]
Outside, the wind gently blows squares of colourful fabric hanging against the back fence. A bee on a small pink flower flies away.
Olga narrates, LATER THAT DAY, I WAS STILL MULLING OVER WHAT TO STUDY FIRST WITH THE HELP OF SOME TASTY FRESH GRASS.
In the pen, Olga nibbles on a blade of grass.
In the pen hideaway, Daisy asks, OLGA, WHEN DO WE START SCHOOL?
Olga says, VERY SOON. I'M JUST THINKING UP A LESSON PLAN.
[Light, cheerful music plays]
Olga says, OH! THERE'S FANGIO!
Fangio sniffs around one of the box gardens in the yard.
[Fangio sniffing]
Olga calls out, FANGIO! FANGIO!
Fangio wanders toward the pen.
Fangio says, HELLO, OLGA.
[Fangio sniffing]
Olga asks, CAN YOU TEACH DAISY SOME GEOGRAPHY?
Fangio says, EH?
Olga says, IT'S WHERE YOU LEARN ALL ABOUT THE WORLD.
Fangio says, OH! WELL. I KNOW ALL ABOUT THAT.
Olga says, YOU DO?
Fangio says, YES, THE BIG, WIDE WORLD JUST BEYOND THAT HEDGE.
Daisy says, OH! BEYOND THE HEDGE?
Fangio says, IT'S FULL OF GRASSY HILLS AND WINDING PATHS AND BIG, JUICY SLUGS. LOTS AND LOTS OF SLUGS.
At the bottom of the grassy hill in front of the guinea pig hutch, Fangio walks into a bush.
[Fangio sniffing]
Fangio says, OH, IT'S TIME TO GO.
Olga narrates, REALLY! THIS GEOGRAPHY LESSON WAS NO HELP AT ALL.
Out loud, Olga says, THANK YOU, FANGIO! CLASS DISMISSED. WE'LL MOVE ON TO OUR NEXT LESSON. PEEWEE!
Daisy says, PEEWEE!
Olga and Daisy walk around the pen. At the back door, Noel pokes his head through his car door. In the living room, Karen wears a new school dress. Mrs. Sawdust smiles.
Mr. Sawdust says, VERY SMART.
Mrs. Sawdust asks, ARE YOU EXCITED?
Karen says, I'M A WEE BIT NERVOUS TO GO INTO A NEW CLASS.
Mr. Sawdust says, IT'S NORMAL TO FEEL LIKE THAT. ONCE YOU GET THERE, YOU'LL BE FINE.
Mrs. Sawdust says, MAYBE WE CAN GIVE NOAH AND FATIMA A RING. SEE IF YOU CAN ALL GO IN TOGETHER TOMORROW.
Karen says, OH, YEAH!
She smiles and fist-bumps Mrs. Sawdust.
Mr. Sawdust says, RIGHT.
Mr. Sawdust grabs a pink and white plaid backpack.
Mr. Sawdust says, LET'S GET THE NEW SCHOOL BAG READY!
[Karen giggling]
In the pen, Olga runs around with Daisy.
[Olga panting]
Olga narrates, PEEWEE IS ALL VERY WELL, BUT ONE HAS TO KEEP UP ONE'S STRENGTH.
Olga nibbles on a blade of grass.
Graham asks, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Graham lies near the pen.
Olga turns and says, WELL, WE'RE GOING RUNNING, GRAHAM, TO PREPARE FOR GOING TO SAWDUST SCHOOL WITH KAREN TOMORROW.
Graham says, OH, I LIKE RUNNING. I ALWAYS COME LAST.
Daisy says, JOIN IN, GRAHAM!
Graham says, OKAY. READY, STEADY, GO!
Graham drags himself across the ground.
Nearby, Noel says, I SEE IT'S GOING WELL THEN.
Olga says, ACTUALLY, NOEL, IT IS. WE'RE JUST DOING SOME PEEWEE.
Noel says, LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE PREPARING FOR SCHOOL DINNERS.
[Noel laughing]
Olga says, SCHOOL DINNERS?
In the wooden hideaway, Daisy nibbles on the grass.
Olga narrates, WELL, THAT WAS A LESSON I WOULD DO VERY WELL AT.
By the food bowl, Olga nibbles on a blade of grass.
Olga narrates, I IMAGINED I WOULD GET TOP MARKS.
Karen opens the door in the roof of the pen. Mr. Sawdust kneels beside her.
Karen says, COME ON, OLGA AND DAISY. TIME TO GO IN THE HUTCH FOR BED.
Mr. Sawdust reaches through the door and picks up Olga.
Olga narrates, BED? WAS IT THAT TIME ALREADY? BUT I HAD STILL SO MUCH TO LEARN.
Mr. Sawdust passes Olga to Karen and picks up Daisy.
[Daisy squeaking]
Karen and Mr. Sawdust hold Olga and Daisy against their chests.
Mr. Sawdust says, YEAH, IT WOULD BE GOOD TO GET AN EARLY NIGHT FOR SCHOOL TOMORROW.
Karen says, YEAH, I'M NOT FEELING NERVOUS NOW THAT I'M GOING IN WITH MY FRIENDS.
Mr. Sawdust says, THAT'S GOOD.
[Guinea pigs squeaking]
Karen and Mr. Sawdust walk over to the guinea pig hutch, and Mr. Sawdust opens the door.
Olga narrates, AND AS KAREN'S FRIENDS, SHE WAS RELYING ON US.
Karen puts Olga down on the straw inside the hutch.
Karen says, THERE YOU GO.
Karen steps back, and Mr. Sawdust puts Daisy in the hutch with Olga.
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Mr. Sawdust says, NIGHT, NIGHT, OLGA AND DAISY. SEE YOU BOTH BRIGHT AND EARLY TOMORROW MORNING.
Mr. Sawdust puts a handful of baby carrots near the food bowl.
Mr. Sawdust says, THERE YOU GO. A LITTLE BEDTIME SNACK. CRUNCHY CARROTS.
Karen smiles. Mr. Sawdust closes the door.
Mr. Sawdust says, SPEAKING OF FOOD, I CHECKED THE SCHOOL DINNER MENU FOR TOMORROW.
Mr. Sawdust and Karen walk back across the yard toward the house.
Mr. Sawdust says, IT'S VEGGIE LASAGNA AND BANANA CUSTARD!
Karen says, YUM!
Olga looks up from her blade of grass.
Olga narrates, LASAGNA? CUSTARD? I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THESE STRANGE FOODS WERE. WHERE WAS THE PARSLEY AND THE LETTUCE?
Daisy nibbles on a piece of lettuce. At night, the full moon shines bright in the dark sky.
[Owl hooting]
Olga narrates, THAT NIGHT, I COULD BARELY SLEEP A WINK.
Moonlight shines through the clear door on the hutch. Olga stands between the door and the food bowl.
Olga narrates, I DIDN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT GEOGRAPHY AND PEEWEE, BUT EVEN WORSE, LASAGNA AND CUSTARD DIDN'T SOUND NICE AT ALL.
Olga scurries into the hutch bedroom and nestles among the piles of straw and hay.
[Gentle music plays]
On a new day, the sun shines brightly in the Sawdust’s backyard.
[Birds chirping]
The wind gently blows daisies in a flower garden and the fabric squares hanging on the fence.
Olga narrates, AND THE NEXT MORNING, I WAS STILL WORRIED.
Olga rests by the door of the hutch.
[Olga squeaking]
Mrs. Sawdust steps off the last back step wearing a dark blue blazer, dress pants, and a pink and green scarf. She carries her and Karen’s jacket. Karen and Mr. Sawdust follow Mrs. Sawdust down the steps. Karen carries a pink and white plaid backpack.
Mrs. Sawdust asks, EXCITED?
Karen says, YEAH, I CAN'T WAIT TO GO WITH MY FRIENDS.
[Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust chuckling]
Someone calls out, KAREN! WE ARE HERE!
Karen, Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust turn toward the gate.
[Light, cheerful, music plays]
Mrs. Sawdust says, RIGHT ON TIME!
Noah and Fatima run into the yard wearing their school uniforms.
Karen says, NOAH! FATIMA!
Fatima says, NICE BAG.
Karen says, THANKS!
Karen turns to Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust.
Mrs. Sawdust says, OKAY, EVERYONE. LET'S GET GOING!
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Mr. Sawdust says, YOU DON'T WANT TO BE LATE FOR YOUR FIRST DAY BACK.
Olga narrates, AND THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED KAREN HADN'T MEANT US, SHE MEANT HER SAWDUST FRIENDS. WE WEREN'T GOING TO SCHOOL AFTER ALL
[Olga squeaking]
Karen says, I JUST HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE TO OLGA AND DAISY.
Mrs. Sawdust nods. Karen runs to the guinea pig hutch.
Karen crouches and says, BYE, OLGA. BYE, DAISY. I'LL MISS YOU.
Karen runs back toward the gate.
Olga narrates, I'D MISS KAREN, TOO. BUT WE'D BE WAITING FOR HER IN OUR NICE, COZY HUTCH.
Olga and Daisy nibble on blades of grass.
Mrs. Sawdust says, OKAY, LET'S GO.
Karen waves and says, BYE, DAD!
Mr. Sawdust waves and says, BYE.
Mrs. Sawdust waves to Mr. Sawdust and leaves with Karen, Fatima and Noah.
Daisy says, SO, I DON'T HAVE TO DO GEOGRAPHY AND PEEWEE ANYMORE?
Olga says, NO, DAISY. WE CAN JUST SPEND ALL DAY EATING AND SLEEPING AND PLAYING IN THE HAY.
Olga lies in a straw hideaway in the hutch. Daisy stands near the bedroom door and nibbles on a blade of grass.
Olga narrates, AND THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE MOST PERFECT GUINEA PIG SCHOOL DAY OF ALL.
Olga leans out of the hideaway and grabs a blade of grass with her teeth.
[Gentle music plays]
Elsewhere in the yard, Fangio sniffs around dandelions near a tree stump.
[Fangio sniffing]
On the grassy hill in front of the guinea pig hutch, Graham nibbles on a piece of lettuce.
[Graham humming]
Olga narrates, YES, I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR KAREN. BUT I WAS GLAD THAT SHE HAD SOME SAWDUST FRIENDS TO GO TO SCHOOL WITH AND EAT LASAGNA AND CUSTARD.
Karen and Mrs. Sawdust return. Mrs. Sawdust walks to the house, and Karen runs across the yard to the hutch. Karen grabs a handful of grass off the ground and opens the hutch.
Olga narrates, DANDELION SCIENCE AND GUINEA PIG LANGUAGES ARE MUCH MORE FOR ME.
Karen places the grass beside Olga and closes the hutch. She crouches and smiles at Olga.

[Playful music plays]
