[Groovy music plays]

Carl, a young raccoon, sits among a collection of stuffed animals in his bedroom.

Singers sing, YES! IT'S CARL! THE COLLECTOR!

Carl jumps out from the pile of stuffed animals. He wears a black, white and grey sweater vest over a mustard-yellow short-sleeved polo shirt. At a table, Carl smells a green pickle sticker from his sticker collection.

The singers sing, IT'S CARL, IT'S CARL, ABSO-LUTE-LY!

Carl imagines himself flying over an ocean of pickle juice on two slices of pickle. On a park trail, he rides his teal bike wearing a matching teal helmet.

The singers sing, CARL! IT’S CARL! THE COLLECTOR!

Carl’s friends follow him down the trail, all wearing helmets. Sheldon, a beaver wearing a green plaid shirt, rides a green bike with Forrest, a grey squirrel wearing a white T-shirt, on his back. Arugula and Nico, pink rabbits wearing matching mustard-yellow dresses, ride on either side of Sheldon. Arugula rides a bike, and Nico rides a skateboard.

The singers sing, IT'S CARL! IT'S CARL! THE COLLECTOR!

Carl and his friends ride up to Pyramid Pizza and join Lotta, a fox wearing a teal jumpsuit. Everyone holds up jars of collected items, including toy trucks, nuts and bolts, watches and pom-poms.

The singers chant, CARL! CARL! CARL! CARL! CARL! THE COLLECTOR!

The title reads, “Carl the Collector. Created by Zachariah Ohora.” In his bedroom, Carl puts a jar with the episode title on a cube shelf. He reads the title.

Carl says, THE BABY STUFF COLLECTION.

[Synthesizer music plays]

Outside Carl’s house, a yellow-feathered bird flies by.

[Bird chirping]

In Carl’s bedroom, Carl sits on the floor with Lotta. Lotta plays a synthesizer.

[Synthesizer Twinkle Twinkle Little Star plays]

The yellow-feathered bird lands on Carl’s windowsill.

Carl says, I REMEMBER THAT SONG, LOTTA.

Lotta stops playing and Carl says, BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD IT PLAYED LIKE THAT BEFORE!

Lotta says, IT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES WHEN I WAS A BABY. EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS SUCH A LONG TIME AGO. BUT NOW I PUT MY OWN SPIN ON IT!

Carl says, IT WAS A LOTTA ORIGINAL. AND A LOT OF ORIGINAL, TOO. HA-HA. I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE STAYING OVER TONIGHT!

Lotta says, I HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED FOR OUR SLEEPOVER.

Lotta pulls a pair of grey pyjamas out of her backpack.

Lotta says, MY FUZZY PAJAMAS, MY SPECIAL BLANKET, AND MY TOOTHBRU –

Lotta puts a green, brown, yellow and white blanket on the floor with her pyjamas and frowns.

Lotta says, WAIT A MINUTE. WUH BOY. I THINK I FORGOT TO BRING MY TOOTHBRUSH. OHHH.

Carl stands and says, DON'T WORRY, LOTTA! I HAPPEN TO HAVE AN EXTENSIVE TOOTHBRUSH COLLECTION!

Carl grabs a box of different toothbrushes. He opens the box, and Lotta smiles.

Lotta says, YOU HAVE A COLLECTION FOR EVERYTHING!

Carl says, YOU CAN PICK OUT ANY ONE YOU WANT.

Carl’s smile drops, and he says, TO HAVE. FOREVER.

Lotta says, OOO! REALLY?

Lotta reaches for a toothbrush.

Carl says, EXCEPT THE GLOW-IN-THE-DARK ONE.

Lotta says, I THINK I'D LIKE THE GREEN PLAID ONE!

Lotta takes a green plaid toothbrush out of the box.

Carl says, OKAY. THE GREEN PLAID ONE.

Lotta says, THIS IS THE NICEST, KINDEST, CARL-EST THING TO DO! IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME. THANK YOU.

Carl smiles.

Carl says, I HAD TO DO IT, LOTTA. FOR TOOTHBRUSH LOVERS EVERYWHERE!

Carl closes the toothbrush collection box.

Carl adds, AND FOR CLEAN TEETH!

[Drum rimshot]

Lotta says, YES.

Lotta puts the toothbrush in her backpack. She picks up her blanket and rubs her nose against it.

Carl says, THAT BLANKET LOOKS LIKE YOU'VE HAD IT FOR A LONG TIME.

Lotta says, OH, I HAVE! THIS IS MY BABY BLANKET, SOFTY. I'VE HAD IT SINCE I WAS A BABY. EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS SUCH A LONG TIME AGO.

Carl says, LOTTA, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MY COLLECTION OF BABY STUFF? IT'S STUFF I'VE HAD SINCE I WAS A BABY, TOO, HENCE THE NAME.

Lotta squeals, EEE!

Lotta stomps her feet and says, I'D LOVE TO SEE YOUR COLLECTION OF BABY STUFF!

Carl says, OKAY! I'LL GET IT. I DON'T SHOW IT TO JUST ANYBODY.

Carl grabs a pink and yellow box with a raccoon icon on the side off a shelf.

Carl says, ONLY SPECIAL FRIENDS.

Carl puts the box on the floor at the end of his bed.

Lotta says, I'M A SPECIAL FRIEND!

Carl opens the box and says, THIS IS THE FIRST PHOTO OF ME EVER TAKEN.

Carl pulls out a photo of himself as a baby with a pacifier. In the picture, he snuggles a raccoon baby blanket with a blue crescent moon in one corner.

Lotta says, AWWW, YOU'RE SO LITTLE!

Carl says, AND THIS IS MY FIRST PACIFIER, WHICH I CALLED "PACI," AND MY FIRST BOTTLE, WHICH I CALLED "BAW-TEE."

Carl shows Lotta a pacifier and a baby bottle.

Lotta says, I CALLED MINE, "BAH-BOO"!

Carl says, AND THIS IS MY FAVORITE STUFFED ANIMAL, MOMO.

Carl pulls a grey stuffed squirrel out of the box.

Lotta says, I CALL MINE RARUE! I ALMOST BROUGHT HIM, BUT I WASN'T SURE IF IT WOULD SEEM TOO… BABY-ISH.

Carl says, I DON'T THINK IT'S BABY-ISH.

Carl puts Momo back in the baby stuff collection box.

Carl says, IN FACT, THE MOST SPECIAL THING IN MY ENTIRE BABY STUFF COLLECTION ISN'T EVEN IN THIS BOX, BECAUSE I STILL SLEEP WITH IT EVERY NIGHT.

Carl wiggles his fingers.

Lotta says, YOU DO?

Carl says, YES. I HAVE A BABY BLANKET, TOO!

Carl pulls a raccoon head baby blanket off his bed.

Carl says, MY KNIT-KNIT.

Lotta says, AREN'T BABY BLANKETS THE GREATEST?

Carl says, YESSSS! THEY'RE SO COZY AND BUNDLE-Y.

Carl throws his knit-knit over his head. Lotta nuzzles her softy.

Lotta says, SO SOOTHING!

Carl says, MINE IS SO SOFT AND WARM, AND MY MAMA MADE IT FOR ME.

Carl hugs his knit-knit and says, SHE SEWED THIS LITTLE SUN AND MOON ON TOP, TO MAKE SURE I'M COZY EVERY DAY AND EVERY NI –

Carl spots a hole in the crescent moon on his knit-knit, and his eyes widen.

Carl says, OH NO! THERE IS A HOLE! A HOLE RIGHT IN THE MOON FACE!

Lotta says, ARE YOU SURE IT HASN'T BEEN THERE FOR A WHILE?

Lotta picks up Carl’s baby picture.

Carl says, OH, I AM SURE. I HAVE KNOWN THIS BABY BLANKIE MY ENTIRE LIFE. I KNOW EVERY INCH, EVERY STITCH, EVERY THREAD. AND THE MOON DIDN'T HAVE A HOLE IN IT LAST NIGHT.

Carl paces back and forth across the room.

Lotta asks, WHAT IN THE WORLD COULD HAVE HAPPENED?

Carl says, I DON'T KNOW, LOTTA. WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT SOMEONE HAS MESSED WITH MY BLANKIE.

Lotta says, CARL, WOULD IT MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER TO HOLD ONTO MY SOFTY FOR A WHILE?

Lotta holds up her softy.

Carl says, THAT IS VERY KIND OF YOU, LOTTA. BUT YOU NEED YOUR SOFTY AND I NEED MY KNIT-KNIT. THE WAY IT WAS! WITHOUT THE HOLE! THIS IS A KNIT-KNIT MYSTERY, LOTTA! AND WE ARE GOING TO SOLVE IT!

Carl walks toward his closet. More collections fill cube shelves around the closet doors.

Carl says, FIRST, LET'S LOOK EVERYWHERE IN THIS ROOM. MAYBE WHOEVER DID THIS... IS STILL HERE!

Lotta says, WHOEVER YOU ARE, YOU'RE NOT GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!

Carl walks back over to Lotta.

Carl says, LET'S DO THIS!

Lotta and Carl search the room. Lotta looks inside the closet. Carl looks behind a row of books on a shelf. Lotta checks under a lampshade. Carl opens a bedside drawer with collections of erasers and coins, and frowns.

Carl says, OKAY, WE HAVE SEARCHED EVERYWHERE!

Kneeling on the floor, Lotta looks under Carl’s mini trampoline.

Carl says, IF THAT BLANKET BANDIT IS IN THIS ROOM, THEN THEY'RE A REALLY GOOD HIDER-OUTER!

Carl bounces on the trampoline.

Lotta says, NO ONE'S THAT GOOD.

Carl says, IN ORDER TO SOLVE A MYSTERY, YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR CLUES. IN ORDER TO FIND CLUES, YOU NEED TOOLS TO HELP YOU LOOK.

Carl stops bouncing and raises his eyebrows.

Carl says, I HAVE AN IDEA!

Carl runs over to a box on a shelf beside the door.

Carl says, PRESENTING…

Carl pulls the box off the shelf and says, …MY SPY STUFF COLLECTION!

Lotta joins Carl and looks in the spy stuff collection box.

Lotta says, CARL, YOU HAVE A COLLECTION FOR EVERYTHING!

Carl says, A PAIR OF BINOCULARS TO SEE FAR AWAY, A MAGNIFYING GLASS TO SEE CLOSE UP, A CAMERA FOR PICTURES, AND A NOTEBOOK TO WRITE THINGS DOWN.

[Lotta imitating two-way radio buzzing]

Lotta says, OPERATION KNIT-KNIT MYSTERY IS IN FULL EFFECT.

[Lotta imitating two-way radio buzzing]

Carl says, NOW, I'LL SPREAD OUT MY KNIT-KNIT RIGHT HERE. AND WE WILL HIDE, AND SPY, AND SEE WHO'S BEEN MESSING WITH IT.

Carl lays out his knit-knit on the bed. Lotta follows him to the closet with the box of spy stuff. In the closet, Carl closes one of the doors and leaves the other open. He pulls binoculars out of the spy stuff box, and Lotta pulls out a notebook.

[Gentle, exciting music plays]

Carl looks between the closet doors with his binoculars. Lotta kneels in front of him and writes in the notebook. Carl takes a picture with his spy stuff instant film camera.

[Camera shutter clicking]

The picture prints. It shows Carl’s knit-knit on the bed among his stuffed animals, including Momo.

[Carl sighing]

Lotta frowns. She looks at the room and at her sketch in the notebook that matches it. Later in the closet, Carl and Lotta look disappointed.

Carl says, UGH. WE'VE BEEN SITTING HERE SO LONG, AND HAVEN'T SPIED ANYTHING! I THINK WE NEED A NEW PLAN.

Lotta says, WELL, WE COULD SET A TRAP?

Carl says, LOTTA, YOU ARE A GENIUS!

Later in Carl’s room, a disco ball tied to a piece of pink string on the ceiling leans against a stack of books. The string is tied to Carl’s knit-knit, still laid out across the bed. Carl places a toy truck on top of the books.

Carl says, THERE WE GO. TRAP: ALL FINISHED!

A laundry basket tied to a weighed-down jar with a piece of blue string on a hook hangs from the ceiling. Lotta wears a pair of headphones.

Lotta says, IT'S IMPRESSIVE!

Carl says, YES. IF ANYONE LAYS ONE HAND ON MY BLANKIE –

Carl pulls his knit-knit off the bed and pulls on the pink string, which raises the disco ball. The disco ball knocks the toy truck down a ramp made of books. The truck hits the jar and knocks off the weight. The jar rises, and the laundry basket drops onto Carl and Lotta.

Under the basket, Lotta says, WOW, OUR TRAP WORKED!

Carl says, OH NO! OUR TRAP TRAPPED US!

Lotta says, WE SHOULD HAVE RECORDED THAT.

At night, Carl’s knit-knit is laid out on the floor at the end of the bed. Carl and Lotta peek out from the other side of the bed. In their pyjamas, they duck down and crouch on the floor with flashlights.

Lotta says, DON'T WORRY, CARL. THERE'S STILL A GOOD CHANCE WE ARE GOING TO CATCH THAT BLANKIE BANDIT.

[Footsteps]

Lotta says, CARL! I HEAR SOMETHING COMING! SHHH!

Lotta and Carl look around.

[Footsteps]

Lotta and Carl crouch low to the floor. Carl peeks over the bed, and the door opens, revealing a dark figure.

[Door creaking]

[Intense music plays]

Lotta pops up beside Carl. Carl jumps on his bed with his flashlight.

Carl says, HOLD IT RIGHT THERE, BLANKET BANDIT!

Lotta stands and says, WE CAUGHT YOU!

Lotta and Carl shine their flashlights on the figure, Carl’s Mama. Carl’s Mama wears her hair wrapped in a towel, a facial mask and a green robe.

Carl’s Mama wails, AAAAAAAH!

Carl and Lotta yell, AAAAAAH!

Carl frowns and says, MAMA?

Carl’s Mama says, LIGHTS OUT, CARL. AND THAT MEANS FLASHLIGHTS, TOO, OKAY?

Carl says, OKAY, MAMA.

Carl and Lotta turn off their flashlights.

Carl’s Mama says, GOODNIGHT, YOU TWO.

Carl says, GOODNIGHT, MAMA.

Lotta says, GOOD NIGHT, MS. CARL'S MOM.

Carl’s Mama closes the door. Later in Carl’s room, Carl lies on a pillow at the foot of his bed.

Carl says, WELL, LOTTA, NOW IT'S BEDTIME. AND STILL NO SIGN OF THE BLANKIE BANDIT ANYWHERE!

Lotta lies on the floor beside Carl’s bed in a sleeping bag and hugs her softy close. She looks tired.

Lotta says, MAYBE IF WE GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP, WE CAN TRY AGAIN TOMORROW.

[Lotta sighing tiredly]

Lotta closes her eyes.

Carl says, MAYBE, OR, WE WATCH AND WAIT.

Carl stares at his knit-knit and the room grows dark. His eyes stand out in the darkness.

[Wind gusting]

In the morning, on her back, Lotta stretches her arms.

Lotta says, MMM.

[Bird chirping]

Lotta rolls over onto her belly and turns toward Carl.

Lotta says, GOOD MORNING, CARL! DID YOU SLEEP OKAY?

Carl stares at his knit-knit through his binoculars. He turns the binoculars toward Lotta.

Carl says, GOOD MORNING, LOTTA. I WISH I COULD SAY I SLEPT WELL. BUT I CAN'T.

Carl lowers the binoculars.

Carl says, I WATCHED AND WAITED FOR A LONG TIME, AND I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING.

[Bird chirping]

Lotta’s ears twitch. Carl raises his eyebrows. Carl and Lotta turn toward the window where the yellow-feathered bird stands.

[Bird chirping]

The yellow-feathered bird flies into the room and pulls a blue piece of thread out of the crescent moon on Carl’s knit-knit.

[Carl gasping]

Carl says, STOP RIGHT THERE, BIRD!

The yellow-feathered bird flies out the window. Carl runs after the bird. Lotta follows.

Carl says, YOU BRING BACK MY BLANKIE THREAD!

Carl turns to Lotta and says, LET'S GO FIND THAT BIRD AND GET IT BACK!

Lotta closes the window and follows Carl into the backyard. Lotta wears her jumpsuit, and Carl wears his sweater vest with the binoculars around his neck. Carl wiggles his fingers.

Carl asks, DO YOU SEE THAT BIRD ANYWHERE, LOTTA?

[Bird chirping]

Lotta says, I DON'T. BUT I THINK I MIGHT HEAR HER.

Lotta’s ears twitch.

Lotta says, IF ONLY WE COULD GET SOMEWHERE HIGH UP, SO WE COULD SEE HER.

Carl looks around.

Carl smiles and says, AH-HA!

In the tree fort, Carl stands at the railing with Lotta and looks through his binoculars. In the tree across from them, the yellow-feathered bird stands on the edge of a nest.

Carl says, OH, I SEE THAT BIRD NOW! AND I SEE MY BLANKIE THREAD IN ITS BEAK! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Carl shakes his fist. Lotta takes the binoculars from him and looks through them at the yellow-feathered bird. The bird adds the blue thread to her nest.

Lotta says, CARL, THAT IS A FEMALE BALTIMORE ORIOLE. IT LOOKS LIKE SHE IS USING THE THREADS FROM YOUR KNIT-KNIT TO MAKE A NEST.

Lotta passes Carl the binoculars.

Carl asks, HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?

Lotta says, I LIKE STUDYING BIRDS. I HAVE A WHOLE COLLECTION OF GLASS BIRDS IN MY ROOM.

Carl says, A COLLECTION?

Lotta says, YES. ORIOLES FINISH THEIR NESTS BY MAKING THEM EXTRA SOFT ON THE INSIDE, JUST BEFORE THE MAMA LAYS HER EGGS.

Carl says, IT IS EXTRA SOFT AND WARM. NO WONDER THEY WANT MY BLANKET IN THERE. BUT, I WANT IT, TOO!

Carl frowns and then smiles.

Carl says, WAIT A MINUTE! I HAVE AN IDEA! TO THE COLLECTIONS!

Lotta says, TO THE COLLECTIONS!

Carl and Lotta high-five. In Carl’s bedroom, Carl pulls a box off a shelf.

Carl says, THIS IS MY FEATHER COLLECTION.

Carl shows Lotta his feather collection, which includes black, white and grey feathers, white feathers, and a black and yellow feather.

Carl says, MY IDEA IS, IF A BIRD LIKES A SOFT BLANKET, MAYBE A BIRD WILL REALLY LIKE SOFT FEATHERS.

Lotta says, WOW! CARL, YOU HAVE A COLLECTION FOR EVERYTHING!

Carl says, YES. I DO REALLY LIKE MY FEATHER COLLECTION THE WAY IT IS.

Carl looks out his window toward the yellow-feathered female Baltimore Oriole and a black and orange-feathered bird, a male Baltimore Oriole.

Carl says, BUT I THINK MY FEATHERS WOULD MAKE THE NEST EXTRA SOFT AND WARM FOR THE BABIES.

Lotta says, IT WILL! IT WILL!

Carl says, EVERYONE NEEDS A SOFT, WARM PLACE OF THEIR OWN. JUST LIKE YOU NEED SOFTY, AND I NEED KNIT-KNIT.

Carl opens a window and puts a bowl of small white feathers on the windowsill. He closes the window and looks out the window beside it with Lotta.

[Bird chirping]

The male Baltimore Oriole flies down to the windowsill. It picks up a small white feather with its beak and flies away.

[Wings flapping]

Carl says, IT WORKED!

Lotta says, THOSE BABY ORIOLES ARE GOING TO HAVE THE SOFTEST, WARMEST NEST THAT ANY BIRD HAS EVER KNOWN.

Carl says, I CAN'T WAIT TILL THE EGGS HATCH! BUT I WILL.

Carl opens his window and watches the female Baltimore Oriole through his binoculars.

Carl says, FOR JUST A FEW MORE WEEKS!

The female Baltimore Oriole adds the white feather to her nest.

[Gentle, magical music plays]

On a new day, the female Baltimore Oriole stands on the edge of her nest with three chicks.

[Chicks chirping]

Carl says, THOSE BABY ORIOLES ARE VERY LITTLE.

Lotta says, AND THEY REALLY SEEM TO LOVE THAT SOFT, WARM NEST YOU HELPED THEM MAKE.

In the tree fort, Carl lowers his binoculars.

Carl says, IT KINDA FEELS GOOD TO KNOW THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF MY FEATHER COLLECTION UP THERE!

Lotta says, AND A LITTLE BIT OF YOUR BABY BLANKET TOO.

Carl says, OH! MY BABY BLANKET!

Carl crosses to the other side of the tree fort and grabs his knit-knit.

Carl says, LOOK AT MY KNIT-KNIT NOW, LOTTA! MAMA TOTALLY REPAIRED THE MOON'S FACE FOR ME. AND SHE ADDED THIS NEW LITTLE BIRD, TOO!

Lotta looks at a Baltimore Oriole chick on Carl’s knit-knit.

[Lotta gasping]

Lotta says, IT LOOKS JUST LIKE A BABY ORIOLE! YOU KNOW, GIVING THE BIRDS YOUR FEATHERS WAS THE NICEST, KINDEST, CARL-EST THING TO DO.

Carl says, I HAD TO DO IT, LOTTA. ON BEHALF OF BABY BLANKET LOVERS EVERYWHERE! AND FOR BABIES!

Lotta says, YEAH, FOR BABIES! EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS SUCH A LONG TIME AGO.

[Carl and Lotta giggling]
