Transcript: The Bouncy Ball Collection
[Groovy music plays]
Carl, a young raccoon, sits among a collection of animal plushies in his bedroom.
Singers sing, YES! IT'S CARL! THE COLLECTOR!
Carl jumps out from the pile of animal plushies. He wears a black, white and grey sweater vest over a mustard-yellow short-sleeved polo shirt. At a table, Carl smells a green pickle sticker from his sticker collection.
The singers sing, IT'S CARL, IT'S CARL, ABSO-LUTE-LY!
Carl imagines himself flying over an ocean of pickle juice on two slices of pickle. On a park trail, he rides his teal bike wearing a matching teal helmet.
The singers sing, CARL! IT’S CARL! THE COLLECTOR!
Carl’s friends follow him down the trail, all wearing helmets. Sheldon, a beaver wearing a green plaid shirt, rides a green bike with Forrest, a grey squirrel wearing a white T-shirt, on his back. Arugula and Nico, pink rabbits wearing matching mustard-yellow dresses, ride on either side of Sheldon. Arugula rides a bike, and Nico rides a skateboard.
The singers sing, IT'S CARL! IT'S CARL! THE COLLECTOR!
Carl and his friends ride up to Pyramid Pizza and join Lotta, a fox wearing a teal jumpsuit. Everyone holds up jars of collected items, including toy trucks, nuts and bolts, watches and pom-poms.
The singers chant, CARL! CARL! CARL! CARL! CARL! THE COLLECTOR!
The title reads, “Carl the Collector. Created by Zachariah Ohora.” In his bedroom, Carl puts a jar with the episode title on a cube shelf. He reads the title.
Carl says, THE BOUNCY BALL COLLECTION!
On the front porch of Carl’s house, Carl’s Mama sits in an egg chair swing reading a book.
[Carl’s Mama humming to herself]
[Car horn honking]
Carl’s Mama looks up as Carl’s Dad rolls to a stop in his van. Carl’s Dad walks around the van and opens the sliding door.
Carl’s Dad says, OUT YOU GO, CARL.
In his seat in the back, Carl says, OKAY, DAD.
Carl undoes his seatbelt and hops out of the van. He bounces across the sidewalk toward the house.
Carl says, BOUNCE. BOUNCE. BOUNCE.
Carl’s Mama leaves her book in the egg chair and smiles at Carl.
Carl’s Mama says, HEY, CARL!
Carl says, BOUNCE!
Carl bounces across the porch, and his Mama wraps her arms around him. Carl’s Dad follows him onto the porch.
Carl says, I'M BACK, MAMA!
Carl’s Dad says, HI, MAUDE.
Carl’s Mama, Maude, says, HAROLD. WELCOME BACK, CARL. HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND WITH DAD?
Carl says, EXCELLENT. WE WENT TO THE GOOD DINER AND I HAD PANCAKES WITH STRAWBERRIES AND BANANAS!
Maude says, OOO, YUM!
Carl says, WE SAW A LOT OF PIGEONS IN THE PARK, WE MADE A BIG TRAIN TRACK WITH A TUNNEL AND A BRIDGE THAT WENT ALL THE WAY FROM MY ROOM TO DAD'S ROOM AND, DAD GAVE ME THIS!
Carl opens his paw, revealing a sparkly blue ball.
[Magical music plays]
Maude says, WOW! THAT CERTAINLY IS SPECIAL!
Carl’s Dad, Harold, says, I THOUGHT IT WOULD MAKE A NICE ADDITION TO CARL'S BOUNCY BALL COLLECTION.
Carl says, YOU WERE RIGHT. WE PLAYED A NEW GAME CALLED ''BOUNCE LIKE THE BALL” WITH IT.
Carl bounces the sparkly blue ball.
[Harold chuckling]
Carl and Harold bounce like a ball.
Harold and Carl say, BOUNCE. BOUNCE. BOUNCE.
Carl catches the ball and stops bouncing.
Maude says, WELL, IT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT WEEKEND!
Carl says, SO, CAN I GO TO MY ROOM NOW?
Carl looks between Maude and Harold and wiggles his fingers.
Maude and Harold say, SURE!
Carl smiles and says, MMM.
Carl and Harold hug.
Carl says, THANKS, DAD. SEE YA ON THURSDAY.
Carl walks inside.
Harold says, I LOVE YOU, CARL.
Carl steps through the door.
Carl smiles and says, I LOVE YOU TOO.
Carl walks back inside. Maude and Harold share a smile. Inside, in his room, Carl bounces on his trampoline.
Carl says, DOMINOS. PENCILS. BOTTLE CAPS. COINS.
Carl looks at some of his collections in the cube shelves on the back wall. He spots his bouncy ball collection in a jar.
Carl says, BOUNCY BALLS!
Carl bounces higher and grabs the bouncy ball jar.
Carl says, GOT IT!
Carl bounces off the trampoline and opens the jar.
Carl says, IN YOU GO. SPARKLY BALL, PLEASE MEET ALL MY BOUNCY BALLS. THERE'S ORANGE BUMPY, AND THE FANCY ONE, AND THE SMOOTH PINK ONE, AND THE GREEN BALL, AND THE ORANGE-YELLOW ONE.
Carl looks at the various balls in the jar.
Carl says, IN YOU GO.
Carl drops the sparkly blue ball in the jar.
From outside the room, Maude calls out, CAAAAAAARL! SHELDON IS HERE!
Carl says, OH!
Carl puts the lid on the jar and runs out the front door. Sheldon stands on the front lawn.
Sheldon says, YOU'RE BACK!
Carl says, I AM!
Carl and Sheldon meet on the sidewalk.
Sheldon asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Carl says, MY BOUNCY BALL COLLECTION! MY DAD GAVE ME THIS SPARKLY BOUNCY BALL AND TAUGHT ME A NEW GAME TO PLAY WITH IT.
Sheldon asks, CAN YOU SHOW ME HOW TO PLAY?
Carl says, YES. IT'S A REALLY GOOD GAME.
Carl opens the jar and tilts it toward his paw. All of the bouncy balls fall out.
[Carl gasping]
The bouncy balls bounce down the street and sidewalk.
Carl says, OH NO! MY BOUNCY BALLS! SHELDON, HELP ME GET THEM! THEY'RE TOO BOUNCY!
Carl and Sheldon run after the bouncy balls. Sheldon chases a ball with a green swirl onto a lawn. Carl chases a yellow ball down the sidewalk. He catches the ball.
Carl says, OOO, GOTCHA!
Carl drops the yellow ball in the bouncy ball collection jar. Sheldon dives onto the grass and catches the swirly green ball.
Sheldon says, GOT ONE!
Sheldon catches an orange and yellow ball.
Sheldon says, GOT ANOTHER ONE!
Sheldon joins Carl and adds his two balls to the three other balls in the jar.
Sheldon says, HERE YOU GO.
Carl says, OH, THANK YOU, SHELDON. I THOUGHT I LOST THEM ALL!
Sheldon says, NO PROBLEM, CARL. GLAD I COULD HELP YOU, BUDDY.
Carl frowns and looks at the bouncy balls in the jar.
Carl says, HMM.
Carl gently shakes the jar, and the balls bounce around inside.
Carl says, THERE ARE STILL SOME BALLS MISSING.
[Carl gasping]
Carl says, AND ONE OF THEM IS THE SPARKLY ONE FOR ME AND DAD'S GAME! MY BOUNCY BALLS ARE REALLY BOUNCY. THEY COULD BE ANYWHERE! HOW WILL I SEARCH THE ENTIRE STREET BY MYSELF?!
Carl closes his eyes.
Sheldon says, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOK FOR THEM ALONE. I'LL HELP YOU!
Carl opens his eyes and turns to Sheldon.
Carl says, YOU WILL?
Sheldon says, SURE! IF THEY'RE IMPORTANT TO YOU, THEN THEY'RE IMPORTANT TO ME TOO! PLUS, TWO SEARCHERS ARE BETTER THAN ONE, RIGHT?
Carl says, RIGHT! THANK YOU, SHELDON. NOW LET'S GO!
Carl puts the lid on the bouncy ball jar and runs up the sidewalk with Sheldon.
[Gentle music plays]
Elsewhere in the neighbourhood, Sheldon looks at a path leading to a house. Carl looks around the sidewalk.
Sheldon turns to Carl and asks, WHAT DO THE MISSING BOUNCY BALLS LOOK LIKE?
Carl looks at the bouncy balls in the jar and says, THERE'S AN ORANGE BUMPY ONE, A FANCY ONE, THE SUPER-SPECIAL SPARKLY ONE MY DAD GAVE ME...
Carl imagines his orange bumpy ball, fancy jewel-covered yellow ball, and sparkly blue ball.
Sheldon asks, IS THERE A SMOOTH PINK ONE?
Carl says, YES!
[Bubble popping]
Carl frowns and asks, HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT?
Sheldon turns to his left and says, TA-DA!
Lotta walks down the sidewalk toward Carl and Sheldon, bouncing a smooth pink bouncy ball.
[Lotta humming]
[Funky, upbeat music plays]
[Carl gasping]
Carl says, MY PINK BOUNCY BALL!
Carl runs toward Lotta. Sheldon follows, and they meet at the corner of the street.
Lotta says, HEY! LOOK WHAT I FOUND.
Sheldon says, LOTTA! YES! HIGH-FIVE?
Sheldon and Lotta high-five.
Lotta asks, WHAT'S GOING ON?
Carl takes the lid off his bouncy ball jar and says, YOU FOUND MY PINK BOUNCY BALL!
Lotta says, OH. HERE YA GO. I LIKE THE COLOR GREEN BETTER, ANYWAY.
Lotta gives Carl the pink ball.
Carl says, THANK YOU, LOTTA!
Carl drops the ball in the jar and puts on the lid. He frowns.
[Carl sighing]
Lotta asks, WHAT'S WRONG?
Carl says, I'M STILL MISSING THREE OF MY BOUNCY BALLS.
Sheldon says, CARL'S GONNA SHOW US A GAME WHEN HE FINDS HIS SUPER-SPECIAL SPARKLY ONE!
Carl says, BUT I'M WORRIED THAT SHELDON AND I WON'T FIND THEM.
Lotta says, I CAN HELP LOOK.
Carl says, YEAH?
Lotta says, YEAH! IF THOSE BOUNCY BALLS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU, THEN THEY'RE IMPORTANT TO ME TOO! PLUS, THREE SEARCHERS ARE BETTER THAN TWO, RIGHT?
Carl and Sheldon say, RIGHT!
Sheldon says, LET'S KEEP LOOKING!
[Cheerful, gentle music plays]
Carl, Lotta and Sheldon cross the street. Elsewhere in the neighbourhood, Carl looks in a bush.
[Bush rustling]
Carl frowns sadly. Lotta reaches into another bush.
Lotta says, I THINK I FOUND ONE!
Lotta pulls a rock out of the bush.
Lotta says, OH. IT'S JUST A ROCK.
Lotta frowns. On the sidewalk, Sheldon pauses and opens a mailbox.
Carl walks up and says, I REALLY HOPE WE FIND THAT ORANGE BUMPY ONE, AND THE FANCY ONE, AND THE SPARKLY ONE MY DAD GAVE ME.
Sheldon closes the mailbox.
Sheldon shrugs and says, ORANGE BUMPY ONE? WAIT, THAT SOUNDS FAMILIAR TO
ME.
Carl says, YEAH, AND IT'S THE ONE THAT MAKES ME THINK OF YOU.
Sheldon says, IT DOES?
Carl says, YEAH. WE WERE BOTH THREE AND A HALF YEARS OLD...
[Magical music plays]
In a flashback, Sheldon and Carl, as three-and-a-half-year-olds, bounce an orange bumpy ball back and forth on a basketball court.
Sheldon says, BOUNCE!
Carl says, BOUNCE!
Sheldon says, BOUNCE!
Carl says, BOUNCE!
Carl bounces the ball high. Sheldon jumps and misses the ball. The ball bounces off a tree, then off a trash bin beside a bench, off a swing set, and off a water fountain. It drops through one of the basketball nets.
Carl and Sheldon say, BASKET!
Sheldon cheers, YAY! WOO-HOO!
The ball bounces back to Carl.
[Magical music plays]
In the present, on the sidewalk, Carl says, OUR VERY FIRST BASKET.
Sheldon says, OH YEAH! BOUNCE-BOUNCE! BASKET!
[Sheldon giggling]
Lotta says, C'MON! LET'S FIND IT!
Lotta, Carl and Sheldon cross the street and run to the park.
Lotta says, LET'S LOOK IN FORREST'S YARD!
Carl and Sheldon follow Lotta down a trail to Forrest’s house deep in the park. They walk through a gate and look around. Sheldon looks under a rock.
Sheldon says, NOPE. NOT IT.
Sheldon looks under a leaf and finds the orange bumpy ball.
[Sheldon gasping]
Sheldon says, LOOK!
Sheldon picks up the ball. Carl and Lotta turn toward Sheldon.
Carl says, YOU FOUND THE ORANGE BUMPY BALL!
Lotta says, OOO! THAT'S A NICE ONE.
Sheldon drops the orange bumpy ball in Carl’s bouncy ball collection jar.
Carl says, THANK YOU, SHELDON! WE JUST HAVE TO FIND TWO MORE.
From close by, Forrest says, HEY THERE!
Carl and Sheldon frown and look up. Forrest hangs upside down from a branch with a tire swing rope.
Forrest asks, WHATCHA UP TO?
Lotta says, CARL'S BOUNCY BALL COLLECTION BOUNCED ALL OVER THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND NOW WE'RE TRYING TO FIND THE MISSING BALLS.
Forrest slides down the rope and stands on the tire.
Carl says, WE'RE STILL MISSING A FANCY ONE, AND THE SUPER-SPECIAL SPARKLY ONE MY DAD GAVE ME. I'M AFRAID I WON'T FIND THEM. THEY COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD!
Forrest says, OOO! I WANT TO HELP!
Carl says, YOU DO?
Forrest says, YEAH. I LOVE AN IMPORTANT MISSION, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THOSE BOUNCY BALLS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU. PLUS…
Forrest flips off the tire swing and says, …FOUR SEARCHERS ARE BETTER THAN THREE, RIGHT?
Carl, Sheldon and Lotta say, RIGHT!
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
Elsewhere in the park, Carl, Sheldon, Lotta and Forrest search around the creek. Sheldon stands on the bridge. Lotta scans the water. Forrest runs from the water to a tree and looks around. She digs through a pile of leaves and dings the fancy ball, an orange ball covered in jewels.
Forrest says, WAIT! CARL, COME LOOK!
Forrest waves her paw, and Carl runs over.
Carl says, THE FANCY ONE! NICO MADE THIS FOR ME! IT MAKES ME THINK OF HER AT ART CLASS, LAST YEAR...
[Magical music plays]
In a flashback, Carl sits at a craft table between Nico and Arugula. They each hold a mustard-yellow bouncy ball. Nico and Arugula show Carl their bouncy balls.
Nico says, LOOK AT THIS, CARL!
Arugula says, LOOK AT THIS!
Nico frowns.
Nico says, WAIT A MINUTE, MINE ISN'T DONE!
Nico spreads a pile of jewels across the table. She covers her ball in glue and rolls it over the jewels.
Nico grunts, AHHH. UHH. OOO. UHHH.
The jewels stick to the ball.
Nico smiles and says, THERE. WE.GO. HERE YOU GO, CARL! YOU CAN ADD THIS TO YOUR COLLECTION.
Nico gives Carl the jewel-covered ball, and he smiles.
Carl says, THANKS, NICO!
[Magical music plays]
In the present, in the park, Carl smiles.
From close by, Nico asks, DID SOMEONE SAY MY NAME?
Carl frowns. Nico and Arugula walk over to him and Forrest.
Carl says, I DID.
Forrest says, CARL SHOWED US THE FANCY BALL YOU GAVE HIM!
Carl smiles.
Nico says, OH YEAH, I REMEMBER THAT.
Sheldon and Lotta join their friends.
Sheldon says, CARL LOST SOME OF HIS BOUNCY BALLS, AND WE'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THEM.
Carl says, AND I CAN'T FIND THE SUPER SPARKLY ONE THAT MY DAD GAVE ME, WHICH I NEED IN ORDER TO SHOW YOU HOW TO PLAY A NEW GAME. IT COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE.
In space, the Earth becomes the sparkly blue ball. Carl floats through space and reaches for the ball.
In the park, Arugula says, OH NO! YOU LOVE YOUR BOUNCY BALL COLLECTION. WE CAN HELP LOOK!
Nico says, SIX SEARCHERS ARE BETTER THAN FOUR - RIGHT?
Everyone says, RIGHT!
Carl says, THANKS, NICO AND ARUGULA!
Carl puts his fancy bouncy ball in his bouncy ball collection jar.
Nico says, WE ARE ON IT, CARL!
Sheldon says, LET'S SPLIT UP!
Carl, Sheldon, Lotta, Forrest, Nico and Arugula split up and search the park.
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
Forrest climbs up a tree. She hangs upside down from a branch and looks around.
Forrest says, AWW, NUTS. NOTHING UP HERE.
Elsewhere in the neighbourhood, Sheldon runs down a path from someone’s house, and Nico runs up the sidewalk. Sheldon and Nico stare at the ground and bump into each other.
Sheldon says, WHOA, EXCUSE ME.
Nico says, WHOOPS! COMING THROUGH!
Sheldon and Nico smile and continue their search in opposite directions. In the park, Arugula and Lotta look around them. Forrest swings across branches in a tree. Carl crawls between bushes. Nico bounces down a sidewalk on her ears. Arugula pops up from behind a boulder.
Arugula says, WE'VE BEEN LOOKING EVERYWHERE!
Lotta appears from behind a boulder beside Arugula.
Lotta says, I THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE SEEN IT BY NOW.
Carl appears from behind a third boulder and says, I'M NEVER GOING TO SEE THAT SPECIAL BALL AGAIN.
[Carl sighing sadly]
Carl walks away. Sheldon, Lotta, Forrest, Nico and Arugula gather around him by the swing set.
Sheldon says, WE COULDN'T FIND IT, CARL.
Carl says, THANKS FOR LOOKING, EVERYONE.
Arugula asks, ARE YOU OKAY, CARL?
Carl says, I'M REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SAD. I WANTED TO SHOW YOU THE GAME BECAUSE IT MAKES ME THINK OF HOW MUCH FUN I HAD THIS WEEKEND WITH MY DAD.
[Magical music plays]
In a flashback, Carl throws the sparkly blue bouncy ball, and it bounces across Harold’s living room. Carl and Harold bounce like the ball and follow it across the room.
[Harold chuckling]
Carl and Harold say, BOUNCE! BOUNCE! BOUNCE!
[Magical music plays]
In the present, in the park, Carl looks sad.
[Carl sighing sadly]
Carl says, MAYBE I SHOULD JUST GO HOME.
Sheldon scratches the back of his head.
Sheldon says, CARL? I KNOW THE SPARKLY BALL IS SPECIAL TO YOU, BUT MAYBE YOU COULD TEACH US THE GAME WITH ONE OF YOUR OTHER BOUNCY BALLS?
Carl says, UM, I DON'T KNOW.
Lotta says, WE'D LOVE TO PLAY YOUR GAME WITH YOU, IF YOU WANT TO TRY.
Sheldon, Forrest, Nico and Arugula nod. Carl looks at his jar of bouncy balls.
Carl says, I GUESS I COULD.
Carl opens the jar and smiles.
Carl says, OKAY. LET'S START WITH...
[Drumroll]
Carl pulls the mustard-yellow ball out of the jar.
Carl says, …THIS ONE! THE GAME IS CALLED ''BOUNCE LIKE THE BALL,” AND WHAT YOU DO IS, UH, BOUNCE LIKE THE BALL.
[Rimshot]
Carl puts down his jar and bounces the ball off the ground.
Carl says, ONE! TWO! THREE BOUNCES! NOW I BOUNCE THREE BOUNCES TOO.
Carl bounces like a ball and counts, ONE! TWO! THREE!
Carl grabs his jar of bouncy balls.
Carl says, HERE. TAKE ONE AND TRY IT!
Sheldon grabs the orange bumpy ball.
Sheldon says, THIS IS A COOL ONE!
Lotta takes the swirly green ball.
Lotta says, WOW! I LIKE THAT ONE!
Forrest grabs a swirly pink ball.
Forrest says, LOOK AT THAT ONE!
Arugula reaches for the yellow and orange ball.
Arugula says, WOW, TWO COLORS!
Nico grabs the fancy ball.
Nico says, SO COOL!
Sheldon bounces his ball on a trail.
Sheldon cheers, WHEEEE!
Lotta bounces and follows her ball down the trail.
Lotta says, HOPPY, HOPPY, HOPPY!
Forrest bounces and chases her ball.
Forrest says, BOING! BOING! BOING!
Nico and Arugula bounce after their balls and bump into each other.
Nico and Arugula grunt, OOF!
[Nico and Arugula giggling]
Carl watches his friends. He smiles and wiggles his fingers. Sheldon bounces like a ball behind Carl with the orange bumpy ball.
Sheldon says, THIS GAME IS GREAT, CARL!
Forrest bounces by and asks, ARE YOU...FEELING...BETTER?
Carl says, YEAH, PLAYING WITH YOU ALL AND TELLING YOU ABOUT MY WORRIES MADE ME FEEL WAY BETTER!
Carl bounces the smooth pink ball over a bush.
Carl says, OOPS. BE RIGHT BACK!
Carl follows the pink ball into a bush.
Carl grabs the ball and says, THERE YOU ARE!
Carl drops the ball in his jar and frowns. He spots something sparkly and blue in a pile of leaves.
Carl says, HUH?
Carl pulls his sparkly blue ball out from the pile of leaves.
Carl smiles and says, AND THERE YOU ARE!
Carl runs over to Sheldon, Lotta, Forrest, Nico and Arugula with his sparkly blue ball.
Carl says, LOOK! I FOUND THE SPARKLY BALL!
Carl’s friends say, OOO!
Forrest says, LOOK AT THAT!
Carl says, LET'S PLAY WITH THIS BALL AND ALL THE OTHER ONES! AFTER ALL, SIX BOUNCY BALLS ARE BETTER THAN ONE! RIGHT?
Sheldon, Lotta, Nico and Arugula say, RIGHT!
Forrest says, LET'S BOUNCE!
Sheldon, Lotta, Forrest, Nico and Arugula bounce their bouncy balls off the ground.
[Lotta giggling]
Sheldon cheers, WHEE!
Carl bounces his bouncy ball.
One of the twins says, WHEE!
Sheldon giggles, WOAH-HOH!
[Giggling]
Carl and his friends bounce like bouncy balls.
Sheldon says, WOW!
Carl and his friends say, BOING! BOING! BOING! BOING!
[Giggling]
One of the twins says, WHEE!

[Giggling]
[Groovy music plays]
