CARL’S MAMA: A U.F.O.? Wow!
CARL: But it was just a flying disc, and now my song sounds awful. I'm sorry, Mama. It was just too hard not to look for a U.F.O.
CARL’S MAMA: It's okay. I have moments like that, too, Carl!
CARL: You do?
CARL’S MAMA: Mmm, maybe not chasing U.F.O.s. But sometimes, something I really want to do now gets in the way of something more important I need to do later.
CARL: So, what do you do?
CARL’S MAMA: Well, I think about how I'll feel later if I'm not able to do the more important thing.
CARL: I think I'd feel better now if I had practiced before.
CARL’S MAMA: Mmm. Well then, what should we do?
CARL: I'm going to work on my song until it's just the way I want it to be. Then I'll play it for you.
CARL’S MAMA: Now that sounds like a good plan.
[Footsteps patter, theremin music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Carl’s mama hugs him and then takes out her book. Carl plays the theremin with his tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth. His mama clenches her teeth and smiles.
CARL’S MAMA: It's...getting there, Carl! Keep practicing.

[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Carl runs inside and returns with headphones.
CARL: Here you go, Mama! The quietest headphones from my headphone collection.
[Rustle, footsteps rustle]

CARL: Happy Mother's Day, Mama!
CARL’S MAMA: Thank you, Carl.

CARL: And now, that way!

[The music stops, birds sing]
CARL: Huh? THAT'S the U.F.O.?! That's YOURS?!

LONG-HAIRED PUNK TURTLE: Yeah! We got a disc-throwing contest tomorrow, so we're practicing.

CARL: So...that's not a U.F.O.?
[Whooshing, slide whistles]

CARL: Wow. You guys are really good at throwing that.
[Slide whistle, whoosh]

SHORT-HAIRED PUNK TURTLE: We've been practicing all day, and we're finally getting the hang of it!
DESCRIPTION: Carl stims, wiggling his fingers.
CARL: Practicing! I haven't finished my song!
[Fuzzy talkie beeps]

CARL’S MAMA, VIA FUZZY TALKIE: CARL! DINNERTIME!
[Static hisses, birds sing, footsteps patter, upbeat music plays]

CARL: Oh no! It's dinnertime, and I'm not ready to perform!
LONG-HAIRED PUNK TURTLE: Sorry, little dude. Good luck!
[Whoosh, thump]
DESCRIPTION: The long-haired punk turtle waves and then catches the disc.
CARL: Thanks.
[Whooshing, slide whistle, whoosh, door opens, thump, footsteps patter, mellow music plays]

CARL’S MAMA: Hey, there you are! I am SO excited to hear this song you made for me!
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Carl stims, wiggling his fingers. His mama puts the plate on a small table and sits on the couch.
CARL: Um...uh...can we eat dinner first?
CARL’S MAMA: Oh. Okay!
[Carl phews, birds sing]
DESCRIPTION: Carl wipes his brow. He and his mama eat their sandwiches, and Carl glances at the theremin.
CARL’S MAMA: Mmm, mmm, mmm. Oh yummy! Well! I'm done with my sandwich. So...are you ready to play?
[Carl gulps nervously, footsteps patter]

CARL: Um...I guess so? Here we go.
[Theremin tune plays, off-key note plays]

[Wobbly and inconsistent theremin tune plays, birds sing]

CARL: Ugh! I can't do this.
CARL’S MAMA: Hey, what's going on, Carl?
[Mellow music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Carl walks to his mama.
CARL: I knew I needed to work on my song because there was this one part that I didn't know yet, but then I saw a U.F.O. and chased it all over the neighbourhood.
CARL: Just one second.
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Carl runs inside and returns with headphones.
CARL: Here you go, Mama! The quietest headphones from my headphone collection.
[Rustle, footsteps rustle]
DESCRIPTION: Carl gives his mama the headphones and runs back to the theremin.
CARL: Happy Mother's Day, Mama!
CARL’S MAMA: Thank you, Carl.
[Theremin music plays, whoosh, eerie music plays, zip]
DESCRIPTION: Carl’s mama puts on the headphones, and Carl practices the theremin. A flying saucer hovers over the house and then flies away.
[Upbeat music plays]
