CHILD: Weeeeee

[Children giggling]

[Light music]

DESCRIPTION: In live-action, in Mr. Hugo’s Little Library, tall stacks of colourful books are piled high in every corner and line curved bookshelves. The whimsical library is decorated with a pink crystal chandelier, a red velvet desk, crocheted pillows, and reading nooks. Mr. Hugo, the Little Library’s librarian, has dark brown curly hair and a bushy brown mustache twisted and waxed at each end. He wears makeup with rosy cheeks, a red suit jacket, a pink-and-blue-checked shirt, a mustard-yellow vest, and a green bow tie.

[Upbeat music]

DESCRIPTION: Sitting in a reading nook is Georgie, a young girl with blonde hair who wears a black cardigan and red barrettes. Mr. Hugo dusts the library as Georgie writes in a notebook. Mr. Hugo uses a large feather duster to dust the bookshelves, the books, and Georgie’s face.

MR. HUGO: How's your homework going, Georgie?

GEORGIE: Fine. Kinda boring. How's your tidying going, Mr. Hugo?

MR. HUGO: Fine. It's kinda boring. Need some books?

GEORGIE: Got 'em. Need any help?

MR. HUGO: No. There's no rush. I'm not opening my library any time soon.

[Mr. Hugo sighs]

MR. HUGO: I'm fine and dandy like cotton candy.

[Mr. Hugo sighs]

MR. HUGO: I guess every day can't be an adventure at Mr. Hugo's Little Library. Right, Dewey? Dewey?

[Mr. Hugo gasps]

MR. HUGO: Dewey?!

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo’s eyes widen. He looks under a book. Georgie puts down her homework.

GEORGIE: Where is he?

MR. HUGO: Dewey's missing!

[Suspenseful music]

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo smiles.

MR. HUGO: Finally something fun to do.

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo holds his hands up and frowns.

MR. HUGO: I mean, boo! Dewey's missing!

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo throws around books and looks for Dewey.

MR. HUGO: Wherever could he be?!

[Upbeat, introduction music]

[Text reads] “A T.V.N.Z Original”.

DESCRIPTION: In the opening sequence, various videos show Mr. Hugo reading to his friends: Georgie, Tia, and Arlo. Georgie has blonde hair and wears a black cardigan and red barrettes. Tia has brown hair tied in two pigtails and wears a purple sweater and pink pants. Arlo has brown, braided hair with blue beads on the ends, and wears an orange suit jacket.

MR. HUGO [singing]: Do you like big adventures?

SINGERS [chorus]: Yeah!

DESCRIPTION: Georgie, Tia, and Arlo hang out in the library with Mr. Hugo. The library’s bookshelves move around on their own. Various clips show Drag Queens dressed like witches, astronauts, mermaids, circus ringmasters, magicians, and dancing princesses.

MR. HUGO [singing]: Do you like mysteries?

SINGERS [chorus]: Uh-huh!

MR. HUGO [singing]: What about space and mermaids?

SINGERS [chorus]: Yeah!

MR. HUGO [singing]: Well, that sounds good to me! Do you like whacky factoids?

SINGERS [chorus]: Yeah!

MR. HUGO [singing]: Do you like fairytales?

SINGERS [chorus]: Uh-huh!

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo takes a book from a bookshelf, revealing Dewey, a fluffy, striped green-and-orange bookworm puppet with a voluminous head of bright orange hair.

MR. HUGO [singing]: Are you fond of ovine filamental morphogenesis?

[Music pauses]

DESCRIPTION: The Drag Queen ensemble, plus Georgie, Tia, Arlo, and Dewey, glance around with confused looks.

SINGERS [chorus]: Uh... What's what? What, huh?

[Music resumes]

MR. HUGO [singing]: Well, you can find whatever you like at Mister...

SINGERS [chorus]: Mister!

MR. HUGO [singing]: Hugo's

SINGERS [chorus]: Hugo's!

MR. HUGO [singing]: Little library

[Title]: “Mr. Hugo’s Little Library”.

[Opening sequence ends]

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo looks around the library while Georgie follows him.

MR. HUGO: Dewey?! Dewey?

[Bright sparkling chime]

MR. HUGO: Where are you?

GEORGIE: Need any help, Mr. Hugo?

MR. HUGO: No, thanks. I've got it under control.

GEORGIE: I'm happy to stop doing homework to give you a hand.

MR. HUGO: No need!

[Bright music]

MR. HUGO: I can do this on my own. I'm used to it.

GEORGIE: But I'm really good at finding things with my young eyes.

MR.HUGO: I've got this, Georgie… It just looks to the casual observer like I don't.

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo looks upward.

MR. HUGO: Library? Don't tell me exactly where Dewey is, but could you please let me know if I'm hot or cold? Red for hot: near Dewey. And blue for cold: nowhere near Dewey.

DESCRIPTION: All of the lights in the library turn red.

[Chiming]

DESCRIPTION: Then, all of the lights in the library turn blue.

[Buzzing]

DESCRIPTION: The lights return to their original state.

MR. HUGO: You understand.

[Bright music]

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo looks around the library. He looks between bookshelves, behind desks, and through an empty cardboard box. The library lights flash blue in each new location.

MR. HUGO: What about now?

[Buzzing]

MR. HUGO: What about now?

[Buzzing]

[Annoyed grumbling from Mr. Hugo]

MR. HUGO: What about now?

[Buzzing]

MR. HUGO: Did I make it clear that red is for when I'm close to finding Dewey?

DESCRIPTION: The library lights flash blue.

[Buzzing]

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo frowns and slumps his shoulders. Suddenly, Tia slides into the library on a playground slide built into the wall. Tia wears a denim dress, pink pants, and a backpack.

[Bright sparkling chime]

TIA: Hey, Mr. Hugo.

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo and Georgie wave to Tia.

TIA: Is Dewey around?

GEORGIE/ MR. HUGO: No.

TIA: I drew him a comic about his secret adventures as a sound engineer slash chief librarian for a punk band. It's called The Dewey Decibel System.

MR. HUGO: While I love that title, Dewey is temporarily unavailable.

GEORGIE: He's lost.

MR. HUGO: He's not lost, I just can't find him.

TIA: I hope he's not hurt.

[Mr. Hugo silently gasps]

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo’s eyes widen, and he places his hand over his heart.

MR. HUGO: I hadn't thought of that.

TIA: Can I help?

GEORGIE: He doesn't want help.

MR. HUGO: I don't want to bother you. I'm perfectly self-sufficient. I once found a needle in a haystack. To be fair, it was a book about needles in a stack of books about hay, but you get the idea.

[Bright music]

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo walks away from Georgie and Tia and deeper into the library. Later, Tia shows Georgie her comic. Mr. Hugo returns.

MR. HUGO: He's not in the best friend section, the mystery section, or the hard-to-find section. Which is aptly named.

DESCRIPTION: The Little Library pushes a glowing book out of a bookshelf in front of Mr. Hugo’s face.

[Bright sparkling chime]

[Mr. Hugo sighs]

GEORGIE: I think your library's trying to help you.

MR. HUGO: No need. Everything's fine.

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo pushes the book back into the bookshelf.

TIA: But Dewey's missing.

MR. HUGO: Well, I didn't say everything was perfect.

DESCRIPTION: The book pops back out and squishes against Mr. Hugo’s face.

MR. HUGO: Maybe I could read a book.

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo takes the book and walks to Georgie and Tia, who are sitting.

MR. HUGO: Me paanui taatou, let's read together. Should we wait for Arlo?

GEORGIE: No, he's volunteering today.

TIA: But he said to say hi. So, hi!

MR. HUGO: Well, say hi back.

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo and Tia wave at each other. Mr. Hugo opens the book. The cover is yellow and features an illustration of a sheep.

MR. HUGO: This is the story of "Sheryl the Sheep," by Ben Cyclopedia.

DESCRIPTION: As Mr. Hugo opens the book, he is transported to a magical, storybook world. A large play set is decorated with flowers, a fence, and a cloud. Mr. Hugo wears a denim cowboy suit with two large buckled belts and a star-patterned denim vest. Mr. Hugo wears a voluminous wig and a white cowboy hat.

[Twangy country music]

MR. HUGO: One fine day…

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo spins over to a golden podium and begins to read the book.

MR. HUGO: Sheryl the Sheep was perfectly fine.

DESCRIPTION: Sheryl the Sheep walks on stage. She has fluffy, white wool, voluminous white hair, black hooves, and glittery makeup. Flowers, grass, hay, and a comb cover Sheryl's wool.

SHERYL: What a perfectly fine day for a perfectly fine sheep.

[Sheep bleating]

MR. HUGO: Sure, her wool was a tad overgrown, making it a trifle heavy to carry around. And, if you looked closely, she had accidentally picked up the occasional trinket on her travels, making her coat somewhat cumbersome.

SHERYL: But it's fine. Everything is fine.

MR. HUGO: Just then, Sheryl saw a beautiful meadow covered in wildflowers.

SHERYL: What a beautiful meadow. I sure would love to smell those wildflowers.

DESCRIPTION: Sheryl's fluffy wool is stuck in the gate.

[Thud]

SHERYL: Uh-oh.

MR. HUGO: But she got stuck and couldn't move! Just then, her friend Reuben the Rooster came by.

DESCRIPTION: Reuben the Rooster wears a metallic red, glittery cowboy suit with shorts and red tights. Reuben wears a red wig styled into a mullet, makeup, and a long, feathery tail.

REUBEN: Howdy, Sheryl, need a hand? Or should I say, a wing?

[Reuben chuckles]

SHERYL: No, thank you, Reuben, I'm fine.

REUBEN: But it looks to me like you're stuck.

SHERYL: Nope. It's just a tight squeeze. I'll manage. Carry on.

DESCRIPTION: Sheryl waves away Reuben. She frowns and continues to squirm in the gate.

MR. HUGO: Then her friend Pam Chetta the Pig came by.

DESCRIPTION: Pam Chetta has pink hair and wears pink heart earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. She wears a fuzzy pink dress and heels.

PAM: Howdy, Sheryl. Need some help there?

SHERYL: No worries, I'm fine. Almost got it.

PAM: You don't look like you've almost got it.

SHERYL: I have! Don't want to hold you up.

DESCRIPTION: Sheryl waves Pam Chetta away.

MR. HUGO: Then her friend Belle the Cow walked past.

DESCRIPTION: Belle the Cow leans on the fence. Belle wears a brown-and-white cowprint suit with a buckled belt, cowboy boots, and a voluminous wig with horns.

BELLE: Sheryl? You look like you're in trouble.

SHERYL: Oh no. I'm fine. Nothing to see here. Just catching my breath.

DESCRIPTION: Belle walks off.

[Sheep bleating]

DESCRIPTION: Back in the library.

GEORGIE: She is not fine.

TIA: But she just said she was.

GEORGIE: Sometimes, friends don't like to ask for help, even when they need it.

TIA: That is very confusing.

DESCRIPTION: Back on the stage, Mr. Hugo continues to read. Sheryl continues to squirm in the fence gate.

MR. HUGO: Sheryl was making progress, and by progress, I mean she was still stuck, but was trying to have a positive attitude about it. But…

[Thunder cracking]

DESCRIPTION: Loud thunder cracks through the sky, the cloud behind Sheryl starts to rain, and the lights flicker.

MR. HUGO: ...a storm was coming!

SHERYL: Uh-oh.

REUBEN: I'm worried about you, Sheryl. Let me give you a little push.

PAM: I've been thinking about you, Sheryl, and I'd like to help.

BELLE: I can see you're in trouble, and as your friend, it's my job to do my darnedest to get you out of it.

SHERYL [crying]: I'm fine! No worries! I can do this on my own!

[Thunder cracking]

REUBEN/ PAM/ BELLE/ SHERYL: Ahh!

SHERYL: Okay, maybe I'm not fine. Maybe I do have some worries. Maybe I can't do this on my own. I think I need some help.

MR. HUGO: And so, the three friends gently pushed…

DESCRIPTION: In a musical number, Reuben, Pam, and Belle all sing as they push on Sheryl’s backside.

[Twangy country music]

[Rooster crowing]

REUBEN [singing]: We're flocking to your side

PAM [singing]: To lighten up your load

BELLE [singing]: Sometimes you just can't do it on your own

PAM [singing]: If what you need's a gentle push

REUBEN [singing]: In the right direction

BELLE [singing]: We'll lend a friendly hoof. No excuses, no exceptions

ALL [singing]: It's okay to ask for help, darling! From your trusted flock and family! It's okay to need support, honey! Ewe can depend on us!

DESCRIPTION: Mr. Hugo joins the group as they open the gates, hold open Sheryl’s wool, and help Sheryl escape. She sheds her woollen coat and now wears a cropped woollen sweater and shorts.

SHERYL [singing]: And you can depend on me! All I need's a listening ear. To bleat about my woes

DESCRIPTION: Sheryl, Ruben, Pam, & Belle line dance with Mr. Hugo in front of the fence.

SHERYL [singing]: Been here through mud and sun. For all my highs and lows. I don't need to feel alone. Like a needle in a stack. 'Cause you're my bestest friends. And I know you've got
my baa-aack

[Laughing]

SHERYL [singing]: It's okay to ask for help, darling, from my trusted flock and family

DESCRIPTION: Back in the Little Library, Georgie, Tia, and Mr. Hugo all dance around together.

SHERYL [singing]: It's okay to need support, honey. I can depend on ewe. And you can depend on me. Yee-hee!

[Music ends]

DESCRIPTION: The music number ends, and Mr. Hugo, Georgie, and Tia all sit down in the library together.

[Bright music]

GEORGIE: I liked how Sheryl changed her mind and let her friends help her.

MR. HUGO: Hmm… On a completely unrelated matter, I think I need your help.

GEORGIE: You got it, Mr. Hugo!

DESCRIPTION: Georgie, Tia, and Mr. Hugo search for Dewey.

GEORGIE: Dewey must be somewhere! Maybe he's admiring the mural we painted?

DESCRIPTION: Georgie and Tia open a set of double doors, revealing a mural of Mr. Hugo and Dewey reading together. The real Dewey is not there.

[Mr. Hugo sighs]

GEORGIE: Nope.

TIA: I've checked the suggestion box.

MR. HUGO: And I've checked the lost property. And he wasn't there, even though he is lost.

DESCRIPTION: Tia walks around the library, and as she walks near a bookshelf, the lights flash red.

[Chiming]

DESCRIPTION: Tia walks away from the bookshelf, and the lights flash blue.

[Buzzing]

MR. HUGO: Tia! Wait! Go back!

DESCRIPTION: Tia walks back towards the bookshelf, and the lights flash back to red.

[Chiming]

DESCRIPTION: Tia moves a set of books off the bookshelf, revealing Dewey behind them.

MR.HUGO/ TIA/ GEORGIE: Dewey!

MR. HUGO: Where have you been?

[Dewey, in gibberish]: I've been helping clean the library. I was here all along behind this mess.

TIA: Wow, that sounds amazing. I bet it would be even more amazing if I understood you.

MR. HUGO: He said he's been helping me tidy to get the library ready to open. You sure do put the "best" in best friend, Dewey.

TIA: I made you a comic, wanna read it?

DESCRIPTION: Tia holds up her comic.

[Dewey, excited gibberish]

MR. HUGO: Yes, but first, we're all going to help me tidy, right?

GEORGIE/ TIA: Right.

DESCRIPTION: Dewey holds his head in his hands.

[Dewey, in gibberish]: Do we have to?

MR. HUGO: Dewey said, "Right"!

[Twangy country music]
