[Episode title] Magic Pox.
DESCRIPTION: At school, Isadore sits in Miss Cherry’s class next to Zoe.
[School bell ringing]
MISS CHERRY: Have a wonderful weekend, and remember, maths test on Monday! Make sure you brush up on those times tables.
ZOE CHEERING: Woo!
DESCRIPTION: Zoe looks excited. Isadora, Oliver and JJ frown.
OLIVER AND JJ GROANING: Aw.
DESCRIPTION: Sashi runs outside with Oliver and JJ.
SASHI, OLIVER AND JJ CHERING: Hooray! Woo-hoo!
DESCRIPTION: Zoe walks outside with Isadora.
ZOE: Isadora, how can you not love times tables?
ISADORA: Because I'm rubbish at maths.
ZOE: You just need to practise.
ISADORA: It won't make any difference. Fairies and vampires are no good at maths, so I'm bad at maths times two.
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen at the Moon family mansion, Cordelia points to different baking ingredients on the counter with her fairy star wand.
CORDELIA: 24 guests. So, eight eggs, three cups of flour and one cup of milk. Will 48 fairy cakes be enough for the party?
DESCRIPTION: Isadora sits at the kitchen table. Pink Rabbit stands on the table as she pokes at a garden salad with her fork.
CORDELIA: Isadora, you're not eating. Are you feeling okay?
ISADORA: I'm fine.
[Chimes ringing]
CORDELIA: Oh, the crystal ball. I wonder who that could be.
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia leaves the kitchen.
[Isadora sighing]
ISADORA: I wish I was ill. Then I could miss the maths test on Monday. Every time I think about it, I get a squiggly feeling in my tummy.
CORDELIA: Isadora, it's your cousin Mirabelle.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora smiles and flaps her wings. She flies out of the kitchen to a crystal ball on a stand in the entryway. Pink Rabbit follows and climbs onto the nearby bench.
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: Isadora! Looking forward to our party tomorrow?
ISADORA: Totally!
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: I'm working on a potion that'll make Wilbur furry!
[Isadora giggling]
ISADORA: Poor Wilbur. But it'll help me forget about my maths test on Monday.
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: Why don't you just pretend to be ill and skip it? That's what I do. I've got loads of spells for it.
ISADORA: Really?
DESCRIPTION: Pink Rabbit shakes his head.
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: Yeah. Magic pox potion works brilliantly. You look ill but feel fine.
ISADORA: Hmm. I'm not sure.
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: All you need is bat's breath, a sprinkle of moon dust and a whiff of stinkwort.
ISADORA: That's all?
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: Yeah. Just mix it all up and dip your toe in. You come out in spots in a day or two, et presto. One maths test, swerved.
CORDELIA: Mirabelle, can I have a word with your dad?
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia walks into the entryway.
CORDELIA: Hmm. I need to make sure I've made enough cakes.
MIRABELLE ON THE CRYSTAL BALL: Yeah, sure! Bye, Isadora. Good luck.
ISADORA: Thanks, Mirabelle. Bye!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora flies away. Pink Rabbit jumps down from the bench and follows. At night, Isadora sits up in bed with Pink Rabbit. Bartholomew stands at her bedroom door.
ISADORA: 'Night, Dad.
BARTHOLOMEW: 'Night, my darling. I'm off for a fly. I've been studying my star charts and have calculated an exciting new route. See you in the morning!
DESCRIPTION: Bartholomew leaves. Isadora and Pink Rabbit lie down under the blanket and close their eyes.
[Gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Isadora opens her eyes.
ISADORA: Oh, I can't sleep, Pink Rabbit.
DESCRIPTION: Pink Rabbit opens his eyes and looks at Isadora.
ISADORA: I keep thinking about the test on Monday. I guess I could give Mirabelle's potion a try.
DESCRIPTION: Pink Rabbit raises an eyebrow.
ISADORA: Being a fairy and a vampire means I'm never going to be good at maths, so why even try? Come on. Let's get the ingredients.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora pushes back her blanket and flies away. Pink Rabbit frowns. Elsewhere in the house, Isadora flies up to the study, where Bartholomew’s bat Boris dangles from above the fireplace.
[Boris snoring]
DESCRIPTION: Isadora holds an empty jar under Boris and pets Boris’s wing. Boris exhales into the jar.
ISADORA: Perfect.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora plugs the jar with a cork and flies down to Cordelia’s greenhouse. Pink Rabbit runs in and follows her to a plant, stinkwort, releasing a green stench.
ISADORA GROANING: Ugh!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora holds her breath. She opens the jar and wafts a cloud of stinkwort stench. Pink Rabbit follows Isadora to the kitchen, where a stream of bright moonlight shines. In the bright moonlight, Isadora opens the jar.
[Magical music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Pink Rabbit frowns. On the kitchen counter, Isadora pours the bat’s breath, stinkwort stench and moonlight into a bowl. She sets the bowl aside and takes out her fairy star wand. She waves the wand over the bowl, and a spoon spins around, mixing the ingredients into a bright pink potion.
ISADORA: Wow! Pink. Mirabelle said I had to dip my toe in.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora flies above the bowl.
ISADORA: One, two, three.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora dips her toe in the potion.
[Intense music briefly plays]
ISADORA: I don't feel any different. Oh, well. Guess we just wait until Monday to get the spots. Oh. Let's get rid of this.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora carries the bowl out to the backyard and looks around.
ISADORA: Ooh!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora spots a potted plant next to a bench. She pours the pink potion into the pot and returns to the house.
[Door closing]
[Rustling]
DESCRIPTION: The plant lights up pink. The vines wiggle, and bright pink balls of fluff pop out among the flowers. In the sky, the crescent moon shines brightly among the stars.
[Crickets chirping]
DESCRIPTION: Day turns to night. In bed, Isadora lies asleep next to Pink Rabbit with pink spots on her face. She slowly opens her eyes.
CORDELIA: Isadora! Your face.
ISADORA: Huh?
DESCRIPTION: Pink Rabbit slowly wakes. He looks at Isadora and quickly grabs a mirror. Isadora looks at her reflection.
[Isadora gasping]
ISADORA: Spots!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora sits up in bed and looks across the room at Cordelia standing at the door.
CORDELIA: My poor baby. And such unusual spots. Right. Bed for you all day today. I'll make you a healthy breakfast. We need to get you well again.
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia leaves.
ISADORA: Pink Rabbit, the spots weren't supposed to appear yet. Maybe I made the potion too strong.
DESCRIPTION: Oscar the ghost flies into the room through a wall.
[Oscar gasping]
OSCAR: I heard you were ill! I –
DESCRIPTION: Oscar flies up to Isadora and pauses.
OSCAR: Ooh. My, my. You look like a join-the-dots puzzle.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora frowns and crosses her arms.
OSCAR: I mean, oh, you poor thing.
ISADORA: Don't worry, Oscar. I'm not ill.
OSCAR: Well, you've got an awful lot of spots for someone who isn't ill.
ISADORA: I made Mirabelle's magic pox potion so I can miss the maths test at school tomorrow.
OSCAR: Ooh! A ruse! Not to worry, Isadora. I shall aid you in keeping up the pretence. I am a very talented actor after all.
CORDELIA: Spinach porridge. The perfect thing for a poorly fairy.
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia flies into the room with a green smoothie and a bowl of leafy, green porridge on a tray. Bartholomew steps into the room behind her.
BARTHOLOMEW: And one of my delicious "witamin" smoothies. Just the thing for an ailing vampire.
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia places the tray on Isadora’s lap. Isadora frowns.
OSCAR: Oh, yes, Isadora. You absolutely must have all of this for breakfast, because you are very ill and not faking it at all.
DESCRIPTION: Oscar winks. Pink Rabbit frowns. He raises an eyebrow and face palms himself with his paw.
[Isadora chuckling nervously]
ISADORA: Thanks, Mum. Thanks, Dad.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora eats a spoonful of the leafy, green spinach porridge and cringes. She sips her green smoothie and smiles at her parents.
ISADORA: Yum!
CORDELIA: Now, make yourself comfortable. Dad's going to stay here and sleep whilst I take Honeyblossom to the party with your cousins.
[Isadora gasping]
[Dramatic music briefly plays]
ISADORA: No! I can't go to the party?
CORDELIA: Sorry, darling. You need to rest. Wake Dad if you need anything.
BARTHOLOMEW: Rest well, sweetheart, and make sure you finish all that smoothie, hmm?
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia and Bartholomew leave.
ISADORA: Being ill is no fun.
OSCAR: Come on, now. Finish that smoothie like Dad said.
ISADORA: Oscar, I'm not really ill. Remember?
OSCAR: Oh.
[Oscar chuckling]
OSCAR: Yes. Silly me.
ISADORA: Could you get rid of it?
DESCRIPTION: Isadora holds up her glass. Oscar smells the smoothie.
[Sniffing]
OSCAR: Ooh. That does smell rather ripe.
DESCRIPTION: Oscar covers his nose. He takes the smoothie from Isadora and leaves.
ISADORA: Oh, well. At least I'll get out of the maths test tomorrow.
[Oscar gasping]
ISADORA: What?
OSCAR: Odds-bodkins! Isadora, you need to see this!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora shares a worried look with Pink Rabbit. She flies out of her room with Pink Rabbit and out the back door to the yard. Isadora drops to her feet and sets Pink Rabbit down beside her, behind Oscar.
OSCAR: I have never seen a plant like this before! Look!
DESCRIPTION: Oscar turns to the plant next to the bench at the back door, now full of pink fluff balls.
OSCAR: They are exactly the same colour as your spots!
ISADORA: This is the bush where I poured out the leftover potion!
[Isadora gasping]
Isadora: What if Mum and Dad notice? They'll know I've been up to something. I know. Maybe I can magic them away!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora takes out her star wand and waves it toward the pink plant. A sparkly cloud wraps around the plant, then balls of fluff pop off and bounce away.
ISADORA: Oh, no.
OSCAR: Is that what you meant to do? Because your mum and dad will definitely notice them now.
DESCRIPTION: A fluff ball bounces past Oscar and Isadora.
OSCAR: Oh, no. A fluffy attack!
DESCRIPTION: Fluff balls bounce into the house. Isadora, Oscar and Pink Rabbit race through the kitchen to the entryway after them.
OSCAR: Oh, dear. Your mum and dad will definitely, definitely notice this.
ISADORA: Then I need to get rid of them before Mum and Dad see them.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora waves her wand at a fluff ball, and it splits in two. She waves her wand at another, and it splits in two.
OSCAR: You're multiplying them!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora chases bouncing fluff balls into a lounge. She waves her wand, and the fluff balls multiply. In a hallway, Pink Rabbit chases after a fluff ball with a net. In the study, Oscar flies in circles around bouncing fluff balls.
OSCAR WAILIG: Whoa!
DESCRIPTION: Oscar flies through a wall. The fluff balls bounce off the wall. In the hallway, Pink Rabbit runs from multiple bouncing fluff balls. Among piles of fluff balls in the kitchen, Isadora sits on the floor with Pink Rabbit, between two stools, and hugs her knees. Oscar peaks out from behind the kitchen counter as fluff balls bounce around.
ISADORA: This is the worst day ever. I've missed Mirabelle's party and filled the house with pink fluff balls!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora and Pink Rabbit duck as a fluff ball bounces off a stool.
ISADORA: Oh. I should never have pretended to be ill.
CORDELIA WAILING: Oh!
DESCRIPTION: Isadora and Pink Rabbit turn toward the entryway.
CORDEILIA: What in the name of fairy cakes?
DESCRIPTION: In the entryway, Cordelia stands in the doorway with Honey Blossom and looks around at piles of fluff balls as other fluff balls bounce around.
CORDEALIA: Isadora Moon, what is going on?
[Honey Blossom babbling]
DESCRIPTION: Isadora walks into the entryway with Pink Rabbit and Oscar.
ISADORA: I, uh…
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia walks across the entryway. Isadora meets her gaze.
ISADORA: I made a magic pox potion to fake being ill, and this happened.
DESCRIPTION: Honey Blossom watches the bouncing fluff balls.
[Honey Blossom babbling]
CORDELIA: Well, yes. Real spots aren't usually that bright pink.
ISADORA: You knew?!
CORDELIA: Of course!
DESCRIPTION: Behind Cordelia, Bartholomew walks down the stairs, rubbing his eyes.
[Bartholomew yawning]
DESCRIPTION: At the bottom of the stairs, Bartholomew spots the piles of fluff balls.
[Bartholomew gasping]
BARTHOLOMEW: I'm having the pink fluff ball dream again!
OSCAR: Oh, I've had that one!
CORDELIA: You're not dreaming, darling. Isadora's magic pox potion had some unexpected side effects. Where did they come from?
ISADORA: Well, you see, I poured the leftover potion on a bush, and they just flowered.
CORDELIA: I suppose Mirabelle didn't say anything about safely disposing of potions?
ISADORA: No.
CORDELIA: I shall have to have a word with her about responsible potion-making. In the meantime, let's sort out this bouncing mayhem.
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia waves her star wand. Honey Blossom wiggles her fingers. A sparkly pink tornado appears and vacuums up all the pink fluff balls.
CORDELIA: Out. All of you.
DESCRIPTION: The tornado spins into the kitchen and vacuums the remaining fluff balls. Bartholomew joins Cordelia and pulls Honey Blossom into his arms.
CORDELIA: Oh, Isadora, why did you feel the need to lie to us about being ill? That's not like you.
ISADORA: I'm sorry. I know it was wrong of me. This thing is, I've got a maths test tomorrow, and I thought if I was ill, then I wouldn't have to do it.
BARTHOLOMEW: Why were you so desperate to miss a maths test?
ISADORA: Because I'm rubbish at maths, like all fairies and vampires.
CORDELIA: I don't know about vampires, but fairies are definitely not rubbish at maths. How do you think I calculate the ingredients for all my fabulous recipes?
BARTHOLOMEW: And how do you think I calculate routes through all the millions of stars in the sky?
CORDELIA: Maths takes practice, Isadora, like ballet or magic.
BARTHOLOMEW: Or flying.
CORDELIA: And the better you get, the more you enjoy it. So, no more fibs.
ISADORA: Sorry, Mum. Sorry, Dad. I really want to make it up to you.
CORDELIA: I think the spinach porridge and missing the party were a start.
BARTHOLOMEW: And?
ISADORA: And I'm going to practise my times tables and do my best in the test!
CORDELIA: Anything else?
ISADORA: And I promise never to pretend being ill again.
DESCRIPTION: Isadora flies up to Cordelia and Bartholomew and bugs them both.
[Honey Blossom cooing]
CORDELIA: Come on. We should probably get rid of those spots and the fluff balls.
ISADORA: Wait! Before you do that, I've got an idea.
DESCRIPTION: In the backyard, Isadora flies above three pink fluff balls with her wand. Cordelia holds Honey Blossom and her wand.
CORDELIA: Three pink fluff balls times two equals...
DESCRIPTION: Isadora waves her wand at the fluff balls, and they multiply by each fluff ball splitting in two.
[Honey Blossom giggling]
ISADORA: ...six pink fluff balls! Times tables are totally making sense now.
DESCRIPTION: Cordelia smiles. At school, at their desks, Isadora and Zoe write their times tables test.
ISADORA: Five pink fluff balls times four…
[School bell ringing]
DESCRIPTION: Zoe and Isadora walk out of the school behind Sashi, JJ and Oliver.
ZOE CHEERING: Full marks. Woo-hoo!
DESCRIPTION: Zoe holds up her test. Isadora reads hers.
ZOE: How did you do?
ISADORA: Not quite full marks, but I did pretty well. Maybe fairy vampires can be good at maths after all.
[Upbeat music plays]
