Descriptive Transcript

DESCRIPTION: Colourful fish and sea turtles swim in bright blue water. On the water, Sandy drives her personal watercraft towards the Surf Club.

[Song] Over the ocean and over the reef, there's a sunny little place called Kangaroo Beach.

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy, Gemma, Neville and Pounce leap off their beds. Frizzy is a young blue koala, Gemma is a pink platypus, Neville is a hairy-nosed albino wombat with a pink nose, and Pounce is a young yellow and orange kangaroo. They ride down a slide.

[Boing, slide whistles]

[Song] Frizzy, Gemma, Neville and Pounce, cadets in the club, so come on, let's bounce. Good friends surfing, swimming, learning.

[Scream, whistle blows, helicopter rotors thump, splash]

DESCRIPTION: Bondi, an orange kangaroo lifeguard, drives a boat. Sandy, a pink kangaroo lifeguard, stands beside him. Big Trev, a yellow wombat, pilots a small sub. A helicopter lifts smiling Gherkinn, an otter, up, wearing a harness. The cadets surf.

[Song] Bondi, Sandy, Big Trev, too, training with the very best lifeguard crew. Staying safe, being brave, ride a wave, make a save. We're here all summer, it just gets fun-er. Let's hop down to Kangaroo Beach.

[Water splashes]

[Title] Kangaroo Beach.

[Waves crash, insects chirp, the music stops]

DESCRIPTION: The full moon glows in the starry sky above the Surf Club. Inside, Gemma looks at a computer monitor.

GEMMA: Full moon. Warm night. Calm sea. The perfect conditions for...

[Soft music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Neville arrives in his pyjamas, carrying a steaming cup.

NEVILLE: A cup of hot chocolate and an early night.

[Upbeat music plays]

GEMMA: No. The start of the coral spawning!

NEVILLE: Coral...what?

GEMMA: Coral spawning! It's when different types of coral release teeny-tiny colourful buds into the ocean to create new coral.

NEVILLE: Cool.

[Slurp]

DESCRIPTION: Neville drinks his hot chocolate.

GEMMA: Yeah! And Big Trev's taking us down in the sub to see it.

[Neville coughs, the music stops]

NEVILLE: Right now?

[Buzzer blares]

BIG TREV, OVER LOUDSPEAKER: Cadets to the rescue bay! Time for a deep-sea dive.

[Thunk]

DESCRIPTION: Neville puts his cup on a table.

GEMMA: Whoo!

DESCRIPTION: Gemma runs past him and yanks his arm.

NEVILLE: Agh!

GEMMA: Let's go!

DESCRIPTION: Gemma and Neville run down a staircase to the beach.

NEVILLE: Whoa!

GEMMA: Yes!

[Whoosh]

DESCRIPTION: Pounce slides outside on his bottom.

POUNCE: Did someone say underwater road trip?

GEMMA: Well, technically, there aren't any roads underwater.

[Rustle]

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy arrives at the bottom of the slide.

FRIZZY: Underwater road trip! Woo-hoo! Ooh, I like your style.

DESCRIPTION: Everyone looks at Neville’s pyjamas.

NEVILLE: Uh... Thanks?

FRIZZY: Maximum comfort for the journey ahead.

[Soft music plays]

NEVILLE: Actually...I was heading to bed.

POUNCE: Yeah - the seabed. Let's bounce!

DESCRIPTION: Pounce grabs Neville’s hand and hops towards Big Trev on the deck of the sub.

NEVILLE: Whoa!

[Pounce laughs]

FRIZZY: Let's do it!

POUNCE: Woo-hoo!

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev smiles as the cadets board the sub.

CADETS: Yay!

[Big Trev chuckles]

DESCRIPTION: The cadets hop into the sub and sit on the benches.

POUNCE: Oh, yeah!

GEMMA: We're going on an adventure!

[Pounce, Frizzy, and Gemma laugh, door slams]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev shuts the door and walks to the controls.

BIG TREV: Alright, underwater explorers, everyone got everything?

GEMMA: Let's see. I've got my sea-life pocketbook.

[Bag rustles]

DESCRIPTION: Gemma picks up her book, and Frizzy picks up a bag.

FRIZZY: Road-trip snacks!

[Bag rustles]

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy throws the bag at Neville.

NEVILLE: Oh!

[Items rattle]

GEMMA: Camera. Compass.

[Soft music plays]

NEVILLE: And my cuddly blanket.

[Big Trev chuckles]

DESCRIPTION: Neville snuggles his blanket.

BIG TREV: Just the essentials then?

[Rustle]

DESCRIPTION: Neville uses the snack bag as a pillow and lies on a padded bench. He pulls his blanket over himself and closes his eyes.

NEVILLE: This'll do.

[Happy sigh, upbeat music plays, sub motor rumbles]

BIG TREV: Alright, off we go.

POUNCE: Whoo-hoo! Let's go!

FRIZZY: Under the sea!

[Water bubbles, soft music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev drives the sub away from the Surf Club, and it dives into the water. Near the seabed, Charlene and her Grandma float.

CHARLENE’S GRANDMA: Sleep tight, Charlene. I mean it. No wandering off in your sleep again.

CHARLENE: I'll try, Grandma. Nighty-night.

CHARLENE’S GRANDMA: Mwah!

[Charlene’s grandma chuckles, grunts, sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Charlene closes her eyes, and her grandma kisses her forehead. She settles beside Charlene and closes her eyes.

[Serene music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev pilots the sub over the seabed. They drive past sleeping fish, a turtle, seahorses, and two sleeping dolphins. In the sub, Pounce and Frizzy look out a window.

POUNCE: Whoa!

FRIZZY: Amazing!

POUNCE: Time for a road-trip game.

FRIZZY: I spy with my little eye something beginning with...A!

[Neville snores]

DESCRIPTION: Pounce looks around the sub.

POUNCE: A...sleeping wombat?

FRIZZY: No. Aliens!

[Dramatic music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy points to the front window, and Neville startles awake. He leaps off the bench.

NEVILLE: What?! Where?!

FRIZZY: Over there!

[Water bubbles]

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy points at glowing jellyfish floating in the water.

CADETS: Whoa! So cool!

[Serene music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Gemma reads her book. She points to a picture.

GEMMA: Those aren't aliens. They're jellyfish! Bioluminescent moon jellies, to be precise.

FRIZZY: Jellyfish from the moon?! I told you they were aliens.

[Pounce and Frizzy laugh]

DESCRIPTION: Pounce runs to a side window.

POUNCE: Wow!

DESCRIPTION: Pounce looks at whales sleeping upright in the water.

POUNCE: Those whales are standing up!

GEMMA: That's how whales sleep sometimes, so they can pop up to take a quick breath when they need it.

NEVILLE: Doesn't look very comfy.

GEMMA: Bedtime looks pretty different underwater, but it's still super important that sea creatures get their sleep.

FRIZZY: I love the ocean at night. It's so topsy-turvy. Can we get any closer? I want a wacky whale selfie!

GEMMA: There's no time. The spawning could start any minute.

OTHER CADETS: Ohh!

[Whoosh, water bubbles, Charlene sighs]

DESCRIPTION: On the sea floor, Charlene and her grandma sleep.

CHARLENE: Game of...swim chasey? OK!


DESCRIPTION: Charlene sleep swims away from her grandma.

CHARLENE: Ah... I'm coming to...get you!

[Soft music plays, motor hums]

GEMMA: Just a bit further, Big Trev.

DESCRIPTION: Gemma points through the windshield.

GEMMA: This is the spot.

BIG TREV: Alright!

DESCRIPTION: Pounce looks out the window.

POUNCE: Your turn for I-Spy, Neville.

[Neville yawns]

DESCRIPTION: Neville looks out the window beside Pounce.

NEVILLE: Okay. I spy with my little eye something beginning with...

[He gasps, dramatic music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Neville points.

NEVILLE: Shark!

DESCRIPTION: Neville ducks below the window, and Frizzy looks out.

FRIZZY: It's Charlene's grandma!

DESCRIPTION: The sub passes Charlene’s grandma sleeping on the seabed. Neville peeks out the window beside her.

NEVILLE: Agh!

FRIZZY: Aww! She looks kind of cute.

[Charlene’s grandma snorts]

NEVILLE: Agh! Not cute! Not cute! Watch out, Big Trev!

[Whoosh]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev swerves away from Charlene as she sleep swims towards a small pink octopus.

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee-dum, dum-dee...I'm gonna get ya.

OCTOPUS: Ah!

[Whoosh, water bubbles, splat]

DESCRIPTION: The octopus swims away. Big Trev turns the sub, and the octopus hits the front window.

BIG TREV: Great gumnuts!

DESCRIPTION: The octopus clings to the window.

NEVILLE SCREAMS: Agh!

GEMMA: Relax, Neville. It's just an octopus.

BIG TREV: Well, it's blocking my entire view!

[Tap, light music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev knocks on the window.

BIG TREV: Oi! Off you get! Ohh. You lot are gonna have to be my eyes.

GEMMA: Absolutely.

DESCRIPTION: Pounce and Frizzy look out the window on one side, and Neville looks out the other. Gemma sits in front of the sonar.

CADETS: Yep. For sure!

BIG TREV: Is Charlene okay?

[Charlene hums, soft music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Neville watches Charlene swim by with her eyes shut.

NEVILLE: I think she might be...asleep.

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee...

[Snores]

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee...

[Cadets laugh]

FRIZZY: Oh, yeah! She's sleep-swimming.

[Snores]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swims in a circle.

CHARLENE SINGS: And as happy as a...

[Snores, chuckles, whoosh, slide whistle]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swoops over a rock and tags a sleeping turtle. The turtle falls on their back and opens their eyes.

CHARLENE: Tagged! You're it!

[Upbeat music plays]

POUNCE: Hey, I know this game!

FRIZZY: It's swim chasey! Charlene's favourite!

[Charlene snores]

NEVILLE: She must be playing it in her dreams!

CHARLENE: I'm coming to...

[Dolphin laughs]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swims past the dolphins, and a pink dolphin wakes up.

PINK DOLPHIN: That tickles!

GEMMA: She's going to wake up the entire reef!

[Others gasp, water bubbles]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swims past seaweed, and a school of fish swims out of it.

NEVILLE: That's going to be one cranky reef.

[Beeps, tense music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Gemma looks at a sonar on the control panel.

GEMMA: Oh, no! Charlene's about to swim into the moon jellies. Follow that shark!

BIG TREV: Where am I going, Cadets?

NEVILLE: Back the other way!

[Water bubbles]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev turns the sub.

BIG TREV: Roger that.

NEVILLE: Turn left!

GEMMA: Coming up on MY side!

POUNCE: Go right!

[Water bubbles, the music stops]

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev stops the sub between Charlene and the moon jellies.

GEMMA: And...stop!

[Water bubbles]

POUNCE: Come on, Charlene, wake up! Wake up!

[Soft music plays, clicks]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene sleep swims towards the moon jellies.

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee-dee...

GEMMA: Frizzy, release the claw.

FRIZZY: I thought you'd never ask!

[Click, whirr]

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy pushes a button on the control panel, and a mechanical arm with a grabbing claw at the end extends in front of the sub.

GEMMA: A little lower.

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee-dum, dum-dee-dee...

NEVILLE: I can't watch!

[Murmurs]

DESCRIPTION: Neville covers his eyes.

GEMMA: That's it!

[Whirr, boing]

DESCRIPTION: The claw taps Charlene’s nose.

CHARLENE: Oh, you got me.

[Chuckles]

CHARLENE: I'm it!

[Water bubbles]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swims away from the sub.

BIG TREV: After that shark!

[Whirr, upbeat music plays]

DESCRIPTION: The mechanical arm slides back into the sub. Charlene swims towards the sleeping whales.

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee-dum, dum-dee-dee I love to play a game of swim chasey...

GEMMA: Now she's gonna wake the whales! That way!

[Water bubbles]

DESCRIPTION: Gemma points to her left, and Big Trev steers the sub around rocks and stops between Charlene and the sleeping whales.

FRIZZY: She's coming up on MY side!

POUNCE: Back it up!

BIG TREV: Great gumnuts!

[Bubbles plop, Charlene chuckles]

DESCRIPTION: Bubbles from the propellers on the back of the sub float into Charlene’s face, and she turns.

CHARLENE: Whee! That tickles!

[Charlene chuckles, motor whirrs]

DESCRIPTION: The sub turns and follows her.

[Upbeat music plays]

CHARLENE: Hey, where'd you go? I'm gonna find you!

POUNCE: Go right!

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev turns sharply.

ALL: Whoa!

[Charlene hums]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swims around a rock.

POUNCE: Other way!

DESCRIPTION: Big Trev swerves around the rock, and the sub tilts.

CADETS CHEER: Whoo-whoo!

[Cadets laugh]

CADETS SHOUT: Whoa! Whoo-hoo!

[Thump]

DESCRIPTION: The cadets tumble from one side of the sub to the other.

NEVILLE SHOUTS: Agh!

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-de-dum...

[Bang, everyone screams, groans, splash]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene hits the sub; it spins and stops over the ocean floor. The octopus opens their eyes and swims away, leaving a cloud of ink.

NEVILLE: Ugh... Maybe I shouldn't have drunk so much hot chocolate.

BIG TREV: Well, the octopus is gone.

DESCRIPTION: The ink dissipates, and Charlene is gone.

GEMMA: And so is Charlene!

[Everyone gasps]

NEVILLE: Oh, no!

POUNCE: Jumping joeys!

[Water bubbles]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene swims near the seabed. She dives towards a shipwreck and becomes stuck in a hole in the side.

CHARLENE SINGS: Dum-dee-dum, dum-dee-dee. No, you're never, ever Never, never gonna catch me...Gonna get ya!

[Charlene gasps, ship creaks, tense music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene opens her eyes.

CHARLENE: Oh, no! Where am I? I'm stuck. Help!

CHARLENE, ECHOING: Help!

DESCRIPTION: On the sub, Pounce glances towards the side window.

POUNCE: Can you hear that? Charlene's in trouble!

GEMMA: Cadets to the rescue!

[Alarm blares, exciting music plays, clicks, beeps, helicopter blades whirr, engine hums, whooshes]

DESCRIPTION: The cadets, Bondi, and Sandy prepare their rescue equipment. A montage shows a motorboat, a helicopter, and the sub. The cadets pose.

[Logo] Kangaroo Beach.

DESCRIPTION: In the ocean, the sub turns.

POUNCE: Come on!

GEMMA: She's down there!

[Water bubbles, Charlene groans, motor rumbles]

DESCRIPTION: The sub lowers in front of Charlene.

GEMMA: Hi, Charlene. We're here to help.

CHARLENE: Oh! It's my besties! I'm a little, teeny-tiny bit...Stuck!

BIG TREV: Yes, you're in a bit of a jam, but you should be able to get back out the way you got in.

CHARLENE: I can't move. The big old ship's got me.

[Charlene groans, chatters, tense music plays]

BIG TREV: Right, Cadets, we need a distraction. She's worked herself into a panic.

FRIZZY: I know! We could play a road-trip game to help her relax.

POUNCE: Hey, Charlene. Up for a game of swim chasey?

[Ship creaks]

CHARLENE: Swim chasey?! That's my favourite!

BIG TREV: You don't say?

POUNCE: Okay!

DESCRIPTION: The sub reverses away from Charlene.

GEMMA: Ready, Charlene?

DESCRIPTION: Charlene nods.

CHARLENE: Yes.

[Charlene chuckles, whirr, boing]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene watches the sub drive away. The sub approaches behind Charlene and the mechanical arm tags her with the claw.

POUNCE: You're it!

[Charlene chuckles, clank]

DESCRIPTION: The sub moves away.

FRIZZY: You'll never catch us!

CHARLENE: Oh, yeah? Just watch me.

[Charlene groans, ship creaks, pop, water bubbles, upbeat music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene wiggles and slides backwards out of the hole.

CHARLENE: Oh! Gonna get ya! I'm gonna find you!

[Cadets laugh]

DESCRIPTION: The sub drives behind Charlene, and she turns.

CHARLENE: Found you!

[Water bubbles, cadets and Charlene laugh, upbeat music continues]

DESCRIPTION: Charlene chases the sub.

CHARLENE: Gonna get ya!

[Cadets chuckle, clank, boing]

DESCRIPTION: The sub stops above Charlene’s sleeping grandma, and Charlene tags it with her nose.

CHARLENE: Got you!

[Cadets exclaim, the music stops]

POUNCE: She got us!

FRIZZY: Go, Charlene!

CHARLENE: Shall we play again?

NEVILLE: Uh.... Sorry, Charlene, we'd better get going. It's a bit past our bedtime.

GEMMA: See you around, Charlene!

[Soft music plays]

CHARLENE: Bye, besties! Come back for a sleepover soon!

[Water bubbles, Charlene’s grandma groans, the music stops]

DESCRIPTION: The sub drives away from Charlene, and her grandma awakens.

CHARLENE’S GRANDMA: Ooh! Charlene? What are you doing up?! Tell me you haven't been sleep-swimming again?

[Light music notes play]

CHARLENE: Uh... I haven't been sleep-swimming again.

[Charlene chuckles awkwardly, water bubbles, motor hums, Neville gasps]

DESCRIPTION: Neville looks out the window beside him.

NEVILLE: Look!

[Gemma gasps]

GEMMA: It's the coral spawning!

[Serene music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Glowing yellow, orange, blue, and pink spawn float away from the coral.

POUNCE: Wow!

FRIZZY: Amazing!

GEMMA: Incredible.

NEVILLE: I'm so glad I stayed awake for THIS!

FRIZZY: I think it's time for...

NEVILLE: Bed?

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy takes out her camera and jumps on a bench at the back of the sub.

FRIZZY: A selfie! Say 'Charlene'!

DESCRIPTION: Everyone poses with the coral spawning in front of the window. Charlene swims to the window and poses.

ALL: Charlene!

CHARLENE: Charlene!

CADETS: Huh?

BIG TREV: What?

[Light music plays]

CHARLENE: Bye, besties!

[Charlene chuckles, everyone laughs, camera shutter snaps]

DESCRIPTION: Frizzy takes the picture.

[Upbeat music plays]

[Song] We're here all summer, it just gets fun-er, let's hop down to Kangaroo Beach.
