DESCRIPTION: In an animation, the front door of a townhouse opens, and Nikhil smiles. He has short brown hair and brown eyes and wears a red hooded sweater. Inside the house, his little brother, Jay, also has short brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a bluish-purple shirt with blue-green trim.
NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil.
JAY: And I'm Jay!
[Map rustles, boings, plane whooshes, Appa shouts, Amma laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map showing a small boat in the water off the coast of South India. Amma’s face appears. She has chin-length brown hair with a yellow bow. A plane flies to England, and Appa’s face appears. He has short brown hair and a beard. A heart-shaped outline surrounds them. Amma dances, and Appa holds a cat-shaped mug.
[Song] Here's a little story about where our family's from. It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa. She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa. Oh. And then we came along. Oh. And this is our song.

DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces with his arms in the air.
JAY: Being loud!
[Chimes, coins rattle, rocket ship whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: They high-five and daydream about riding coins on a carrom board. In outer space, they peer through the window of a rocket ship.
[Song] We both love to dream. We can shoot a carrom pocket. Yeah, or blast off in a rocket. We make the greatest team.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump.
[Needle scratches a record, slide whistle]
NIKHIL: Wait.
JAY: What?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold a picture of their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has short black hair and wears a yellow shirt and a blue saree. Thatha has short white hair and wears a yellow jacket, a white shirt, and eyeglasses on a chain around his neck.
NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha.
[Jim and Nana exclaim]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana stand behind Nikhil and Jay. Jim has short brown hair and holds a tray of food. He wears a green shirt and brown pants. Nana holds her lollipop stop sign.
JAY: And Jim and Nana.
NIKHIL: And don't forget Max the cat.
[Max meows, crash, slide whistles]

DESCRIPTION: In the foyer, Amma takes paint jars out of a crate. She reads the labels, then tucks them into the crook of her left arm.
AMMA: "Brilliant blue"..."Golden dreams"...Ooh! "Murmurs of mango."
[Max meows, wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs past, and Amma loses her balance and juggles the paints.
AMMA: Oh!
[Amma gasps, laughs, jars clink, Amma sighs]
AMMA: Ah!
[Wobbling, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Amma startles and hugs the jars against her chest as Jay and Nikhil arrive. Jay holds a tablet with Ammamma and Thatha on the screen.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Amma! Amma! Amma!
NIKHIL: And here's Amma sorting out her paints.
[Ammamma laughs]
AMMAMMA: Slow down, cutie!
JAY: I made a picture of Amma! It's on the fridge!
NIKHIL: Thatha! I saw a beetle!
AMMAMMA: Oh.
[Boings, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs to the fridge, carrying the tablet over his head, and Nikhil follows him.
NIKHIL: A big shiny beetle!
JAY: Look, Ammamma! My picture!
[Ammamma claps]
THATHA: Oh, wow, Jay! When did you ma—
[Zapping, Nikhil and Jay gasp, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: On the tablet, Ammamma and Thatha disappear from the screen, replaced by the low-battery icon.
NIKHIL: Wha--! Oh! Amma! They're gone!
[Jay gasps, whoosh, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa run into the kitchen as Jay jumps with the tablet over his head.
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
JAY: Jaldi! Jaldi! Call them back!
AMMA: Huh?
[Slide whistle, jars clink]
DESCRIPTION: Jay holds the tablet out to Amma, and she throws the paint jars to Appa.
APPA: Oh! Oops.
AMMA: Ayyo, the battery's dead. Now where is the charger...?
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Amma carries the tablet away.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Aw...
[Soft music plays]
NIKHIL: I wish we could talk to Ammamma and Thatha all the time.
[Jay groans]
JAY: Why are they so far away?!
[Nikhil gasps]
NIKHIL: Let's get a train and go see them!
JAY: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Amma returns and stands beside Appa.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Can we actually?!
[Appa laughs, mellow music plays]
APPA: A train?! All the way to Chennai?!
[Amma chuckles, waves crash]
AMMA: Ooh! That would be a long, long journey. You'd have to cross oceans, and mountains, and deserts...
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Whoa...!
[Steam whistle toots, Jay giggles, lively music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay imagines driving a steam train on a bridge over a road. He pulls two gondola cars behind him, with Chickpea smiling in the middle car.
JAY: Whoo-hoo! Ocean!
[Steam whistle toots]
DESCRIPTION: Jay drives past an octopus in an ocean and over mountains.
JAY: Whee! Mountains!
[Steam whistle toots, Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: The train chugs into a desert.
JAY: Whoo-hoo!
[Jay laughs, camels snort]
DESCRIPTION: The train passes camels.
JAY: Wow, desert!
[Steam whistle toots, Jay gasps, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: The train stops at Ammamma and Thatha’s house. They stand on the sidewalk, waving, and Jay jumps out of the locomotive.
JAY: Chennai! Ammamma and Thatha! Yay!
[Thatha laughs, steam whistle toots, chiming, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Ammamma and Thatha, and the daydream ends.
JAY: Nikhil! We've got to get to the train now!
[Jay gasps, waves splash, ding]
JAY: We can be the train! We'll go over oceans, and mountains, and-- hang on. How far is Chennai?
NIKHIL: Uh... Is as far away as-- uh... Amma's shed!
[Steam whistle toots, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Purple curtains hang in the doorway of Amma’s shed.
JAY: Yeah! And our bedroom can be England! To the bunkbed station!
[Jay and Nikhil laugh, whoosh, Appa humming, slide whistle, Appa gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil salutes Jay, and they run to their bedroom. Later, Appa carries the paint jars to the foyer. They slip, and he juggles them.
APPA: Whoa! Yeah-ha-ha.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana opens the front door, wearing her crossing guard uniform and holding her traffic sign.
APPA: Ah!
NANA: Cooey! Oh!
[Slide whistle, jars smash]
DESCRIPTION: Appa startles, dropping the paint jars.
NANA: You alright, pet?
DESCRIPTION: On the floor, Appa gives Nana a thumbs-up.
APPA, WEAKLY: I'm fine...
[Nana giggles, whoosh, door creaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay step out of their bedroom.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yeah!
NIKHIL: The Around the House Express is now ready to leave for Chennai!
[Steam whistle toots, upbeat music continues, Jay laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil bends his arms and moves them in a circle at his side, imitating train wheels.
JAY: All aboard! Toot-toot!
[Steam whistle toots, Nikhil chugs]
DESCRIPTION: Jay imitates pulling a whistle rope. He follows Nikhil down the hallway, and both boys imitate train wheels.
JAY: Toot-toot! Huh?
[Honking, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nana stands at the bottom of the stairs beside a puddle of yellow paint. She holds her traffic sign with the red side facing the boys and blows her whistle.
NANA: Stop! Spillage alert! We have a wet floor situation.
[Chiming, light music plays]
JAY: Whoa! The Golden Ocean!
NANA: Whoa, whoa, whoa!
NIKHIL: Huh?
JAY: But we have to get to Chennai, Nana. To see Ammamma and Thatha!
NANA: Well, me ducks, you could take the Nana Ferry.
[Upbeat music plays, Jay and Nikhil laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps on Nana’s back, and she carries him around the puddle. Jay smiles and chases them.
NIKHIL: Yay! Hooray!
[Kids laugh, Max yowls, kids gasp]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max naps on the sofa, and Nikhil and Jay sit down. Max stands and narrows her eyes.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Oops! Sorry, Max!
[Max meows, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Max jumps off the sofa, and Nikhil and Jay jump to their feet.
NIKHIL: The train now boarding at Sofa Station is the 1102 for Chennai!
JAY: Nana! You could come too!
NANA: To Chennai?! Whoo! Count me in.
[Whistle blares]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yay!
JAY: Here's your ticket!
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Nana a ticket.
NANA: Ooh, thank you! Smashing.
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay reaches up and takes the ticket away.
JAY: Ticket, please!
NANA: Oh!
[Nana giggles, whoosh]
NIKHIL: This train is ready to depart. Mind the doors!
DESCRIPTION: Nana walks behind Jay as everyone imitates train wheels.
EVERYONE: Choo-choo!
[Steam whistle toots, kids giggle, Nikhil imitates chugging, whistle blares]
DESCRIPTION: Nana blows her whistle, and everyone stops.
NIKHIL: What?
NANA: Stop! Cat on the tracks!
[Dramatic music plays, Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max sleeps in a doorway. She flicks her ear and opens her eyes.
NIKHIL: All cats must cross now!
JAY: Please...?!
[Max meows, everyone chuckles]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks away with her tail held high.
NIKHIL: Sorry for the delay! We're now ready to depart, again.
[Upbeat music plays, Nikhil imitates chugging, gasps, brakes screech]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stops at the dining room table.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Whoa...!
[Light music plays]
NIKHIL: First, we have to climb the tallest mountain in the world! Full steam ahead!
[Steam whistle toots, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lifts his left leg towards the tabletop, and Jay imitates pulling a whistle rope.
JAY: Toot-toot!
[Whistle blares]
DESCRIPTION: Nana blows her whistle, and Nikhil stops.
NANA: Un-uh! No wheels on the table!
[Slide whistle, Nikhil sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lowers his leg.
NIKHIL: But how can we get past the tallest mountain in the world then? Hm...
[Upbeat music plays, steam whistle toots, Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil imagines driving the train up and down mountains, with a dinosaur, an anteater wearing a top hat, and a yellow elephant riding in two passenger cars.
NIKHIL: Whoa...
[Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: Whee! Wa-hoo!
[Cracking]
DESCRIPTION: The train approaches the tallest mountain and stops at where the track splits. One track leads up the mountain, and the other leads to a tunnel beneath it.
NIKHIL: Wow! Erm...
[Lever creaks, steam whistle toots]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls a lever, switching to the tunnel track.
NIKHIL: Yeah!
[Steam whistle toots, upbeat music continues]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends.
NIKHIL: Actually, the train can go under the mountain.
[Boys giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gestures beneath the table and crawls under it.
NANA: Oh! Mm...
[Nana sighs, slide whistle, boys laugh, Nana groans]
DESCRIPTION: Nana rolls her eyes and plugs her nose. The boys crawl out from under the table at the other end, and Nana stops halfway. Appa carries a tray with a teapot and teacups, lifting it over his head.
APPA: Appa cuppa! Hot, hot Appa cuppa!
[Nikhil and Jay laugh]
JAY: What are you doing, Appa?
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Appa picks up a cup.
APPA: Every great Indian train trip needs a great cup of tea.
[Nana groans, pants]
DESCRIPTION: Nana crawls out from under the table, and Appa offers her the cup.
APPA: Ooh! Hello there. Cuppa, Nana?
NANA: Ooh! Don't mind if I do. Travelling under mountains is thirsty work.
[Appa laughs, Nana sips, Nana and the boys sigh, boys laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nana drinks her tea.
NANA: Right, me ducks! It's the end of the line for me.
[Honking, cup thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Nana puts her cup on the table.
NANA: Whoo, I'm pooped!
[Nana sips, sighs, boys laugh, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana picks up the cup and takes a drink.
NIKHIL: Please remember to take all your belongings with you. Next stop, Chennai!
[Jay giggles, steam whistle toots, Nana laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nana waves.
NANA: Bye...!
[Nana sips, Appa exclaims]
DESCRIPTION: Nana drinks her tea and Appa startles.
APPA: Ah... Ooh! Oh Mum!
[Nana giggles, Nikhil imitates chugging, brakes screech, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay ride their pretend train outside to the patio. Nikhil stops, and Jay bumps into him.
NIKHIL: Ah!
[The music stops, Nikhil gasps, sighs, water splashes, cracking]
NIKHIL: We've crossed oceans, and mountains, but we still have to cross...
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gestures at the grass.
NIKHIL: The hot desert!
[Indian classical music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at Amma’s shed.
JAY: To get all the way to Chennai!
[Jay inhales deeply, upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm...
[Nikhil and Jay imitate chugging, Nikhil and Jay sigh, Nikhil inhales deeply, Indian classical music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay imitate train wheels as they walk across the grass. They stop, and Nikhil wipes his brow.
NIKHIL: Nearly there, we're so—
[Alarmed music plays]
JAY: Ah! Cat on the track!
NIKHIL: Ah!
[Thump, Max yowls, slide whistle, the music stops, shoe boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bumps into Nikhil, and they both fall. Max jumps high and lands in the grass near one of Jay’s shoes.
NIKHIL: Emergency!
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks away.
NIKHIL: The train's derailed!
[Jay giggles, slide whistle, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stand, and Jay hops on his left foot.
JAY: And my wheels have come off!
NIKHIL: Can you hop?
JAY: I think so-oh! Oh!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops in a circle and returns to Nikhil.
JAY: Ooh!

DESCRIPTION: Jay hops on one foot behind Nikhil.

DESCRIPTION: Amma loses her balance and falls.
AMMA: Whaa! Whoa... Ah!
[Amma sighs, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Amma stands up with her hand on her hip. In front of her, Jay hops on one foot behind Nikhil.
NIKHIL: The train now arriving in Chennai is the Around the House Express, all the way from England!
[Steam whistle toots, triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil imitates pulling a whistle rope.
NIKHIL: Choo-choo!
JAY: Yeah, my wheels fell off!
[Amma and Nikhil laugh, jumps boing, sad music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops to the table and looks at a picture of Ammamma and Thatha. He picks it up and hugs it.
JAY: Oh... I wish we were really in Chennai.
NIKHIL: Then we could tell Ammamma and Thatha all about our trip!
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil hugs Jay.
THATHA: Hello, 'kutties.'
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at the picture.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ammamma? Thatha?
[Gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa holds the tablet with Ammamma and Thatha waving on the screen.
AMMAMMA: Hello! We are back!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yay!
DESCRIPTION: Jay takes the tablet.
JAY: We just took a trip all the way to Chennai to see you!
NIKHIL: Choo-choo!
[Steam whistle toots, boys imitate chugging, jumps boing, Amma and Appa laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs in a circle around his parents, and Jay hops behind.
NIKHIL: In our train game, Amma's shed is Chennai!
[Jay laughs, Thatha chuckles]
THATHA: Hm. Much less busy and noisy than the real Chennai.
[Thatha and Ammamma laugh, upbeat music plays]
AMMA: Oh, it was even less busy and less noisy a few minutes ago.
[Boys laugh, waves crash]
JAY: We went over golden oceans!
[Ding]
NIKHIL: And under the tallest mountain in the world.
JAY: And hot desert!
NIKHIL: And there was a cat on the track! Come on, we'll show you!
JAY: All aboard. Toot-toot!
[Steam whistle toots, Nikhil imitates chugging, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay imitates pulling a whistle rope. Nikhil carries the tablet facing forward, and Jay hops behind him. In the backyard, the boys hop on one foot.

NIKHIL: This is how we crossed the hot desert.

DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Nana sips her tea as Nikhil and Jay arrive.
NIKHIL: The tunnel's under the mountain!

[Ammamma gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nana, Ammamma, and Thatha wave, then Nikhil and Jay crawl under the table.
THATHA: Wow!
[Everyone laughs]
AMMAMMA: It's almost like we are on your train!
[Gentle music plays]
NIKHIL: But you're not. You're really far away.
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
JAY: Hm.
THATHA: Just because we are far away doesn't mean we can't feel close to you.
NIKHIL: Actually, you're right! You are here, even though you're in Chennai!
JAY: Yeah! Now I can show you my picture!
[Thatha and Ammamma laugh, upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL: And I can tell you about the beetle I saw! It was black and shiny, and—
JAY: Wait! First we need to go on...
[Squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Jay pokes Nana.
JAY: The Nana Ferry over the golden ocean.
[Foghorn blares]
DESCRIPTION: Nana puts down her cup, and Jay hops onto her back.
JAY: Yeah!
[Jay and Nana laugh]
AMMAMMA AND THATHA: Toot-toot!
[Everyone laughs, steam whistle toots]

DESCRIPTION: In the foyer, Amma takes paint jars out of a crate. She reads the labels, then tucks them into the crook of her left arm.
AMMA: "Brilliant blue"..."Golden dreams"...Ooh! "Murmurs of mango."
[Max meows, wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs past, and Amma loses her balance and juggles the paints.
AMMA: Oh!
[Amma gasps, laughs, jars clink, Amma sighs]
AMMA: Ah!
[Wobbling, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Amma startles and hugs the jars against her chest as Jay and Nikhil arrive. Jay holds a tablet with Ammamma and Thatha on the screen.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Amma! Amma! Amma!
NIKHIL: And here's Amma sorting out her paints.
[Ammamma laughs]
AMMAMMA: Slow down, cutie!
JAY: I made a picture of Amma! It's on the fridge!
NIKHIL: Thatha! I saw a beetle!
AMMAMMA: Oh.
[Boings, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs to the fridge, carrying the tablet over his head, and Nikhil follows him.
NIKHIL: A big shiny beetle!
JAY: Look, Ammamma! My picture!
[Ammamma claps]
THATHA: Oh, wow, Jay! When did you ma—
[Zapping, Nikhil and Jay gasp, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: On the tablet, Ammamma and Thatha disappear from the screen, replaced by the low-battery icon.
NIKHIL: Wha--! Oh! Amma! They're gone!
[Jay gasps, whoosh, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa run into the kitchen as Jay jumps with the tablet over his head.
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
JAY: Jaldi! Jaldi! Call them back!
AMMA: Huh?
[Slide whistle, jars clink]
DESCRIPTION: Jay holds the tablet out to Amma, and she throws the paint jars to Appa.
APPA: Oh! Oops.
AMMA: Ayyo, the battery's dead. Now where is the charger...?
[Footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Amma carries the tablet away.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Aw...
[Soft music plays]
NIKHIL: I wish we could talk to Ammamma and Thatha all the time.
[Jay groans]
JAY: Why are they so far away?!
[Nikhil gasps]
NIKHIL: Let's get a train and go see them!
JAY: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Amma returns and stands beside Appa.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Can we actually?!
[Appa laughs, mellow music plays]
APPA: A train?! All the way to Chennai?!
[Amma chuckles, waves crash]
AMMA: Ooh! That would be a long, long journey. You'd have to cross oceans, and mountains, and deserts...
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Whoa...!
[Steam whistle toots, Jay giggles, lively music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay imagines driving a steam train on a bridge over a road. He pulls two gondola cars behind him, with Chickpea smiling in the middle car.
JAY: Whoo-hoo! Ocean!
[Steam whistle toots]
DESCRIPTION: Jay drives past an octopus in an ocean and over mountains.
JAY: Whee! Mountains!
[Steam whistle toots, Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: The train chugs into a desert.
JAY: Whoo-hoo!
[Jay laughs, camels snort]
DESCRIPTION: The train passes camels.
JAY: Wow, desert!
[Steam whistle toots, Jay gasps, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: The train stops at Ammamma and Thatha’s house. They stand on the sidewalk, waving, and Jay jumps out of the locomotive.
JAY: Chennai! Ammamma and Thatha! Yay!
[Thatha laughs, steam whistle toots, chiming, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Ammamma and Thatha, and the daydream ends.
JAY: Nikhil! We've got to get to the train now!
[Jay gasps, waves splash, ding]
JAY: We can be the train! We'll go over oceans, and mountains, and-- hang on. How far is Chennai?
NIKHIL: Uh... Is as far away as-- uh... Amma's shed!
[Steam whistle toots, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Purple curtains hang in the doorway of Amma’s shed.
JAY: Yeah! And our bedroom can be England! To the bunkbed station!
[Jay and Nikhil laugh, whoosh, Appa humming, slide whistle, Appa gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil salutes Jay, and they run to their bedroom. Later, Appa carries the paint jars to the foyer. They slip, and he juggles them.
APPA: Whoa! Yeah-ha-ha.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana opens the front door, wearing her crossing guard uniform and holding her traffic sign.
APPA: Ah!
NANA: Cooey! Oh!
[Slide whistle, jars smash]
DESCRIPTION: Appa startles, dropping the paint jars.
NANA: You alright, pet?
DESCRIPTION: On the floor, Appa gives Nana a thumbs-up.
APPA, WEAKLY: I'm fine...
[Nana giggles, whoosh, door creaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay step out of their bedroom.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yeah!
NIKHIL: The Around the House Express is now ready to leave for Chennai!
[Steam whistle toots, upbeat music continues, Jay laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil bends his arms and moves them in a circle at his side, imitating train wheels.
JAY: All aboard! Toot-toot!
[Steam whistle toots, Nikhil chugs]
DESCRIPTION: Jay imitates pulling a whistle rope. He follows Nikhil down the hallway, and both boys imitate train wheels.
JAY: Toot-toot! Huh?
[Honking, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nana stands at the bottom of the stairs beside a puddle of yellow paint. She holds her traffic sign with the red side facing the boys and blows her whistle.
NANA: Stop! Spillage alert! We have a wet floor situation.
[Chiming, light music plays]
JAY: Whoa! The Golden Ocean!
NANA: Whoa, whoa, whoa!
NIKHIL: Huh?
JAY: But we have to get to Chennai, Nana. To see Ammamma and Thatha!
NANA: Well, me ducks, you could take the Nana Ferry.
[Upbeat music plays, Jay and Nikhil laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps on Nana’s back, and she carries him around the puddle. Jay smiles and chases them.
NIKHIL: Yay! Hooray!
[Kids laugh, Max yowls, kids gasp]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max naps on the sofa, and Nikhil and Jay sit down. Max stands and narrows her eyes.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Oops! Sorry, Max!
[Max meows, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Max jumps off the sofa, and Nikhil and Jay jump to their feet.
NIKHIL: The train now boarding at Sofa Station is the 1102 for Chennai!
JAY: Nana! You could come too!
NANA: To Chennai?! Whoo! Count me in.
[Whistle blares]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yay!
JAY: Here's your ticket!
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Nana a ticket.
NANA: Ooh, thank you! Smashing.
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay reaches up and takes the ticket away.
JAY: Ticket, please!
NANA: Oh!
[Nana giggles, whoosh]
NIKHIL: This train is ready to depart. Mind the doors!
DESCRIPTION: Nana walks behind Jay as everyone imitates train wheels.
EVERYONE: Choo-choo!
[Steam whistle toots, kids giggle, Nikhil imitates chugging, whistle blares]
DESCRIPTION: Nana blows her whistle, and everyone stops.
NIKHIL: What?
NANA: Stop! Cat on the tracks!
[Dramatic music plays, Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max sleeps in a doorway. She flicks her ear and opens her eyes.
NIKHIL: All cats must cross now!
JAY: Please...?!
[Max meows, everyone chuckles]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks away with her tail held high.
NIKHIL: Sorry for the delay! We're now ready to depart, again.
[Upbeat music plays, Nikhil imitates chugging, gasps, brakes screech]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stops at the dining room table.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Whoa...!
[Light music plays]
NIKHIL: First, we have to climb the tallest mountain in the world! Full steam ahead!
[Steam whistle toots, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lifts his left leg towards the tabletop, and Jay imitates pulling a whistle rope.
JAY: Toot-toot!
[Whistle blares]
DESCRIPTION: Nana blows her whistle, and Nikhil stops.
NANA: Un-uh! No wheels on the table!
[Slide whistle, Nikhil sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lowers his leg.
NIKHIL: But how can we get past the tallest mountain in the world then? Hm...
[Upbeat music plays, steam whistle toots, Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil imagines driving the train up and down mountains, with a dinosaur, an anteater wearing a top hat, and a yellow elephant riding in two passenger cars.
NIKHIL: Whoa...
[Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: Whee! Wa-hoo!
[Cracking]
DESCRIPTION: The train approaches the tallest mountain and stops at where the track splits. One track leads up the mountain, and the other leads to a tunnel beneath it.
NIKHIL: Wow! Erm...
[Lever creaks, steam whistle toots]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls a lever, switching to the tunnel track.
NIKHIL: Yeah!
[Steam whistle toots, upbeat music continues]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends.
NIKHIL: Actually, the train can go under the mountain.
[Boys giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gestures beneath the table and crawls under it.
NANA: Oh! Mm...
[Nana sighs, slide whistle, boys laugh, Nana groans]
DESCRIPTION: Nana rolls her eyes and plugs her nose. The boys crawl out from under the table at the other end, and Nana stops halfway. Appa carries a tray with a teapot and teacups, lifting it over his head.
APPA: Appa cuppa! Hot, hot Appa cuppa!
[Nikhil and Jay laugh]
JAY: What are you doing, Appa?
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Appa picks up a cup.
APPA: Every great Indian train trip needs a great cup of tea.
[Nana groans, pants]
DESCRIPTION: Nana crawls out from under the table, and Appa offers her the cup.
APPA: Ooh! Hello there. Cuppa, Nana?
NANA: Ooh! Don't mind if I do. Travelling under mountains is thirsty work.
[Appa laughs, Nana sips, Nana and the boys sigh, boys laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nana drinks her tea.
NANA: Right, me ducks! It's the end of the line for me.
[Honking, cup thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Nana puts her cup on the table.
NANA: Whoo, I'm pooped!
[Nana sips, sighs, boys laugh, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana picks up the cup and takes a drink.
NIKHIL: Please remember to take all your belongings with you. Next stop, Chennai!
[Jay giggles, steam whistle toots, Nana laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nana waves.
NANA: Bye...!
[Nana sips, Appa exclaims]
DESCRIPTION: Nana drinks her tea and Appa startles.
APPA: Ah... Ooh! Oh Mum!
[Nana giggles, Nikhil imitates chugging, brakes screech, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay ride their pretend train outside to the patio. Nikhil stops, and Jay bumps into him.
NIKHIL: Ah!
[The music stops, Nikhil gasps, sighs, water splashes, cracking]
NIKHIL: We've crossed oceans, and mountains, but we still have to cross...
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gestures at the grass.
NIKHIL: The hot desert!
[Indian classical music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at Amma’s shed.
JAY: To get all the way to Chennai!
[Jay inhales deeply, upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm...
[Nikhil and Jay imitate chugging, Nikhil and Jay sigh, Nikhil inhales deeply, Indian classical music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay imitate train wheels as they walk across the grass. They stop, and Nikhil wipes his brow.
NIKHIL: Nearly there, we're so—
[Alarmed music plays]
JAY: Ah! Cat on the track!
NIKHIL: Ah!
[Thump, Max yowls, slide whistle, the music stops, shoe boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bumps into Nikhil, and they both fall. Max jumps high and lands in the grass near one of Jay’s shoes.
NIKHIL: Emergency!
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks away.
NIKHIL: The train's derailed!
[Jay giggles, slide whistle, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stand, and Jay hops on his left foot.
JAY: And my wheels have come off!
NIKHIL: Can you hop?
JAY: I think so-oh! Oh!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops in a circle and returns to Nikhil.
JAY: Ooh!
[Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: Let's get this train back on track!
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops on one foot behind Nikhil.
JAY: Hop, hop, hop, hop, hop, hop!
NIKHIL: Choo-choo!
JAY: Hop, hop, hop, hop!

[Amma inhales deeply, exhales, gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In her shed, Amma stands in the yoga tree pose in front of her sewing desk as the boys enter.
[Triumphant music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Chennai!
[Slide whistle, wobbling, thud]
DESCRIPTION: Amma loses her balance and falls.
AMMA: Whaa! Whoa... Ah!
[Amma sighs, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Amma stands up with her hand on her hip. In front of her, Jay hops on one foot behind Nikhil.
NIKHIL: The train now arriving in Chennai is the Around the House Express, all the way from England!
[Steam whistle toots, triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil imitates pulling a whistle rope.
NIKHIL: Choo-choo!
JAY: Yeah, my wheels fell off!
[Amma and Nikhil laugh, jumps boing, sad music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops to the table and looks at a picture of Ammamma and Thatha. He picks it up and hugs it.
JAY: Oh... I wish we were really in Chennai.
NIKHIL: Then we could tell Ammamma and Thatha all about our trip!
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil hugs Jay.
THATHA: Hello, 'kutties.'
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at the picture.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ammamma? Thatha?
[Gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa holds the tablet with Ammamma and Thatha waving on the screen.
AMMAMMA: Hello! We are back!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yay!
DESCRIPTION: Jay takes the tablet.
JAY: We just took a trip all the way to Chennai to see you!
NIKHIL: Choo-choo!
[Steam whistle toots, boys imitate chugging, jumps boing, Amma and Appa laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs in a circle around his parents, and Jay hops behind.
NIKHIL: In our train game, Amma's shed is Chennai!
[Jay laughs, Thatha chuckles]
THATHA: Hm. Much less busy and noisy than the real Chennai.
[Thatha and Ammamma laugh, upbeat music plays]
AMMA: Oh, it was even less busy and less noisy a few minutes ago.
[Boys laugh, waves crash]
JAY: We went over golden oceans!
[Ding]
NIKHIL: And under the tallest mountain in the world.
JAY: And hot desert!
NIKHIL: And there was a cat on the track! Come on, we'll show you!
JAY: All aboard. Toot-toot!
[Steam whistle toots, Nikhil imitates chugging, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay imitates pulling a whistle rope. Nikhil carries the tablet facing forward, and Jay hops behind him. In the backyard, the boys hop on one foot.
JAY: Hop-hop, hop-hop.
NIKHIL: This is how we crossed the hot desert.
THATHA: Oh!

DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Nana sips her tea as Nikhil and Jay arrive.
NIKHIL: The tunnel's under the mountain!
NANA: Oh! Cooey!
[Ammamma gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nana, Ammamma, and Thatha wave, then Nikhil and Jay crawl under the table.
THATHA: Wow!
[Everyone laughs]
AMMAMMA: It's almost like we are on your train!
[Gentle music plays]
NIKHIL: But you're not. You're really far away.
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
JAY: Hm.
THATHA: Just because we are far away doesn't mean we can't feel close to you.
NIKHIL: Actually, you're right! You are here, even though you're in Chennai!
JAY: Yeah! Now I can show you my picture!
[Thatha and Ammamma laugh, upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL: And I can tell you about the beetle I saw! It was black and shiny, and—
JAY: Wait! First we need to go on...
[Squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Jay pokes Nana.
JAY: The Nana Ferry over the golden ocean.
[Foghorn blares]
DESCRIPTION: Nana puts down her cup, and Jay hops onto her back.
JAY: Yeah!
[Jay and Nana laugh]
AMMAMMA AND THATHA: Toot-toot!
[Everyone laughs, steam whistle toots]
JAY: Toot-toot!
AMMAMMA: Ayyo!
[Tense music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Cat on the track!
[Max meows, carrom coins rattle]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max jumps from the floor to a carrom board on the coffee table.
AMMAMMA AND THATHA: Ayyo! Cat on the carrom board!
[Max meows, carrom coins rattle, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Max jumps off the table, knocking the board and pieces to the floor.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Max!
JAY: Toot-toot!
