DESCRIPTION: In an animation, the front door of a townhouse opens, and Nikhil smiles. He has short brown hair and brown eyes and wears a red hooded sweater. Inside the house, his little brother, Jay, also has short brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a purple shirt with blue-green trim.
NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil.
JAY: And I'm Jay!
[Map rustles, boings, plane whooshes, Appa shouts, Amma laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map showing a small boat in the water off the coast of South India. Amma’s face appears. She has chin-length brown hair with a yellow bow. A plane flies to England, and Appa’s face appears. He has short brown hair and a beard. A heart-shaped outline surrounds them. Amma dances, and Appa holds a cat-shaped mug.
[Song] Here's a little story about where our family's from. It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa. She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa. Oh. And then we came along. Oh. And this is our song.

JAY: Nikhil likes...
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil peers through binoculars.
NIKHIL: Missions! Jay likes...
[Boings, energetic music continues]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces, arms in the air.
JAY: Being loud!
[Chimes, coins rattle, rocket ship whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: They high-five and daydream about riding coins on a carrom board. In outer space, they peer through the window of a rocket ship.
[Song] We both love to dream. We can shoot a carrom pocket. Yeah, or blast off in a rocket. We make the greatest team.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump.
[Needle scratches a record, slide whistle]
NIKHIL: Wait.
JAY: What?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold a picture of their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has short black hair and wears a yellow shirt and a blue saree. Thatha has short white hair and wears a yellow jacket, a white shirt, and eyeglasses on a chain around his neck.
NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha.
[Jim and Nana exclaim]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana stand behind Nikhil and Jay. Jim has short brown hair and holds a tray of food. He wears a green shirt and brown pants. Nana holds her lollipop traffic sign turned red.
JAY: And Jim and Nana.
NIKHIL: And don't forget Max the cat.
[Max meows, crash, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Max, an orange tabby cat, licks her paw, then lunges forward. Nikhil and Jay dance with their parents, Nana, Jim, and Max.

DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max stands over a purple ball. She pounces on it and throws it around the room. She chases it around a coffee table as Nikhil and Jay sit on the couch, watching.
JAY: Max has the zoomies!
[Nikhil and Jay laugh, both gasp, both laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Max chases the ball onto the coffee table, leaps into the air, then chases it out of the room. In the kitchen, Appa carries a stack of boxes.
APPA SINGS: Do-do-do-do-do.
[Max meows, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs past Appa, and he loses his balance.
APPA: Whoa!
[Max meows, Appa grunts, sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Appa shifts from one foot to the other, regaining his balance as Nikhil and Jay enter.
APPA: Well...
[Nikhil and Jay laugh]
JAY: Nice moves, Appa.
[Max meows, bell jingles, Max purrs, Max meows, munching, Appa laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks back to Appa and the boys and shakes her head. She lies down by her food bowl and eats.
APPA: It's a good job there's only one of you to watch out for, Max.
[Max meows, Jay laughs]
APPA: The neighbour's cat just had surprise kittens.
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Kittens!? Cool!
APPA: They wondered why she was so hungry and sleepy.
[Max munches, yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Max eats her food.
APPA: Turns out she was savin' her energy for the kittens. Seven of them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Whoa!
APPA: Imagine seven little Maxs runnin' 'round.
[Everyone laughs, Max slurps]
DESCRIPTION: Appa carries the boxes out of the room.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Max meows, purrs, snores, light music plays, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay watch Max walk away from her food bowl. She lies down on a carpet and falls asleep.
NIKHIL: Hm. Max is very hungry.
JAY: And very sleepy.
[Max meows, Nikhil and Jay gasp, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay smile and raise their arms.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Kittens!
NIKHIL: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay dance.
JAY: Best news ever, ever, ever!
AMMA: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
[Needle scratches a record]
AMMA: You're having a kitchen dance party? Without me?
[Nikhil and Jay laugh, Max meows and grumbles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma, Nikhil, and Jay dance. Max opens an eye and looks up.
NIKHIL: Huh?
NIKHIL AND JAY: Sorry, Max!
JAY: Max needs to save her energy.
NIKHIL: Quick! We have to get ready!
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run out of the room, and Amma dances.
AMMA SINGS: He-he-hey, he-he-hey.
[The music stops]
AMMA: Huh? Ready for what?
DESCRIPTION: In Nikhil and Jay’s bedroom, Jay puts his hands on his face.
JAY SHOUTS: Kittens! Ooh!
NIKHIL: I can't believe Max is gonna have kittens!
JAY: Yeah! Loads of fluffy kittens to play with. Aw!
[Chiming, Max purrs, energetic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay pets Max and hugs her.
JAY: Mm.
[Max purrs, Max meows]
JAY: Huh?
[Kittens meow, Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay notices two kittens.
JAY: Yes!
[Jay laughs, kittens purr, meowing, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Two more kittens appear.
JAY: Yay!
[Meowing]
DESCRIPTION: Two more kittens appear.
JAY: Uh...
[Kittens meow, Jay laughs, kittens purr]
DESCRIPTION: The kittens jump on Jay, and he falls backwards. The daydream ends, and Jay lies on the bedroom floor.
JAY: That tickles!
[Jay laughs, the music ends]
NIKHIL: Jay? Do you think Max'll have seven kittens just like the neighbour's cat?
JAY: Probably.
[Jay gasps, upbeat music plays]
JAY: We'll need seven more cat beds!
NIKHIL: Or, one big cat bed.
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands.
JAY: Yes! A mega cat bed!
NIKHIL: We can make it out of Max's favourite thing.
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps.
JAY: Yes! Like tuna!
[Nikhil laughs, the music stops]
NIKHIL: No, Jay. Cardboard boxes.
JAY: Oh, yeah. Quick! Let's get some from Appa.
NIKHIL: Jay, wait.
[Tires screech, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stop by their bedroom door.
JAY: Huh?
NIKHIL: We should tell Amma and Appa the big news first.
JAY: Or we could keep it as a surprise. They'll love it!
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his arms and jumps.
NIKHIL: But you can't keep surprises, Jay.
JAY: Yes, I c--No, I can't. But, this time I will.
[Slide whistle, Appa sighs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Outside, Nikhil and Jay watch Appa remove the stack of boxes from the blue bin.
APPA: There we are.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Thanks, Appa.
APPA: So, what are you makin' with them, eh?
JAY: We're making a mega c—
[Jay gasps]
APPA: "A mega cat?"
[Muffled groaning]
DESCRIPTION: Jay twitches with his lips pressed tightly together.
NIKHIL: Uh, he means, uh, categories.
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay smiles and nods.
APPA: You mean you're going to sort your toys into different categories?
NIKHIL: Uh, yes.
[Appa gasps]
APPA: That's so organized!
[Appa sniffles]
APPA: You're just like me. Ooh, ooh!
[Boys gasp]
APPA: How are you organizin' them? By colour, or by animals, hm?
DESCRIPTION: The boys smile broadly.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh...It's a surprise!
[Ding]
DESCRIPTION: Appa winks.
APPA: Oh! Okay.
[Appa hums, Nikhil and Jay sigh]
DESCRIPTION: Appa walks away, and the boys stop smiling.
[Upbeat music plays, Jay gasps, boxes rustle]
DESCRIPTION: In their bedroom, Nikhil and Jay arrange the boxes.
NIKHIL: A-ha!
[Max meows, thud]
DESCRIPTION: Max arrives with her purple ball. She drops it and runs into a box turned on the side.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Nikhil a small box, and Nikhil puts it on top of a larger box.
NIKHIL: Uh-huh.
[Slide whistle, Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max reaches down from the top bunk and knocks the small box to the floor.
JAY: Huh?
[Slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Nikhil the small box, and Nikhil puts it on the larger box. His mouth drops open. Max knocks it over towards Nikhil’s head.
NIKHIL: Wah!
[Nikhil sighs, Max purrs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil tapes the boxes together.
JAY: Uh-huh! Yes!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Both shout, tape crinkles, Max meows, boys sigh]
DESCRIPTION: On the floor, Max plays with the roll of tape.
[Chiming, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, a painting of Max leans against a three-floor cardboard cat bed, featuring a balcony and turret at the top, a basket of toys beside the small box and a large opening filled with pillows.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ta-da!
JAY: One mega cat bed!
[Hands slap, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay high-five.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yeah!
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max rolls her eyes, then jumps on Jay’s bed next to Chickpea and Star.
NIKHIL: Come on, Max. Try it out.
JAY: Yeah!
[Whoosh, Max meows, upbeat music plays, Max meows, thump, Nikhil sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Max looks at the cat bed, then shakes her head. She stares at Nikhil as she knocks Chickpea over and jumps on Star.
JAY: She loves our toys more than her cat bed.
[Max purrs, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Max rubs her head against Star as hearts surround them.
NIKHIL: If one cat loves our toys so much, what will happen when there are seven?
[Cats meow, Nikhil sighs, drawer thumps, cat meows]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil watches a cat jump on his bed as another cat runs across the room. He opens a dresser drawer and a pink cat smiles up at him.
NIKHIL: Uh.
[Slide whistle, Max meows, purring]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil takes Raju out of the drawer and swings it. When he lifts it again, Max clings to Raju’s back.
NIKHIL: A-ha! Uh...
[Max purrs, Nikhil sighs, cats meow, slide whistle, angry cat yowling, Nikhil grunts, horn honks, whirring]
DESCRIPTION: Two cats pull Star between them, and Nikhil pulls on the middle of the stuffy.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Whirring, panicked meowing, Max meows, Nikhil gasps, yelps]
DESCRIPTION: Max smiles as she rides on a toy monster truck and chases another cat across the room. Nikhil dives out of the way and lies on the floor, covering his head with his hands. The daydream ends and Nikhil kneels on the floor.
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Hm, actually, seven kittens will really love our toys. We need to hide them!
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
JAY: On it!
DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up a stuffed rabbit and a stuffed elephant. Nikhil picks up a pink bear stuffy just as Amma looks into the room.
AMMA: Huh? Nikhil, Jay, what are you up to?
[Toy squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts toys into a box.
NIKHIL: Just, um, sorting our toys into categories.
[Squeak, Appa laughs, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Appa pokes his head into the doorway.
APPA: Just like their Appa.
[Amma laughs, squeak, upbeat music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Appa moves out of the doorway.
AMMA: Where's Jay?
JAY: Here!
[Toy squeaks, duck toy quacks, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his hand in the centre of a pile of toys.
AMMA: Uh...
[Amma sighs]
AMMA: Okay.
[Footsteps tap, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Amma backs away from the door.
NIKHIL: Hm. Where's Max?
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Maybe she's had the kittens already.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay tiptoe to the cardboard box cat bed.
JAY: Max? Max?
[Jay gasps, Max meows]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Max purrs, meows]
DESCRIPTION: In the hallway, Max hits her purple ball and chases it.
[Nikhil sighs]
NIKHIL: Now, she's just playing with her ball.
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Max loves her ball, so her kittens will love playing with balls too.
[Nikhil gasps]
NIKHIL: So, we'll need seven balls for seven kittens.
[Bell dings, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods. Later, in the living room, the boys stand with their hands on their hips.
NIKHIL: Hm. Do you think it'll be enough?
DESCRIPTION: Appa arrives as Nikhil and Jay stare at 15 balls on the floor.
APPA: Hey, why are there so many—
[Slide whistle, Appa shouts, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Appa steps on the balls and slides into the kitchen. He twirls, then grabs the counter and falls against the edge.
APPA: Ooph!
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Oops. Sorry! Really nice moves, Appa.
[Appa sighs, Nikhil and Jay chuckle nervously, upbeat music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Jay holds up two balls.
JAY: We'll put these away.
[Whoosh, thump, Max meows, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up a blue ball. He reaches for the purple ball, and Max jumps on it.
NIKHIL: Max, that's not for you. That's for your kitten.
JAY: Yeah, give it back!
[Max meows, boys sigh, balls clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Max chases the ball down the hallway. Jay and Nikhil fall to their knees and drop the balls.
JAY: Max never, ever, ever listens to us!
[Jay gasps]
JAY: What if the kittens don't either?
NIKHIL: Good point. We'll have to train them. Hm, but I never trained a kitten before.
JAY: That's okay. You can practise on me. Meow.
[Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: Okay!
[Nikhil laughs]
JAY SINGS: Meow.
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs away on all fours, and Nikhil chases him. In the living room, Appa dusts a bookshelf.
APPA SINGS: Boop-be-doop-doop-doo.
JAY: Meow!
DESCRIPTION: Jay crawls up the stairs.
APPA: Oh, Max.
JAY: Meow.
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max runs past Appa.
APPA: Huh?
NIKHIL: Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil follows Jay up the stairs.
APPA: Huh? Hang on. When did we get two cats?
JAY: Meow.
[Boings, Nikhil laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil follows Jay into their bedroom.
NIKHIL: That's a good kitty. Now, do exactly what I say.
JAY: Meow. Okay!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil spins.
NIKHIL: Spin 'round and roll on your back.
JAY: Meow. Meow!
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay turns in a circle, then lies on his back, pawing the air with his hands.
NIKHIL: Jay, be a naughty kitten, so I can train you to listen.
DESCRIPTION: Jay crouches on all fours and looks at the cardboard cat bed.
JAY: Meow.
[Slide whistle, toys squeak, thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay crawls to the bed and knocks Raju to the floor. He throws the elephant stuffy over his shoulder.
JAY: Meow. Splat. Meow. Splat.
NIKHIL: That's it. Now, sit.
[Whooshing, toys squeak, thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay throws stuffed animals on the floor.
JAY: Meow. Splat. Meow, splat, meow, splat.
NIKHIL: I said, "Sit."
[Rocket ship clatters, whooshing, toys squeak, toy duck quacks]
DESCRIPTION: Jay throws a toy rocket ship and more stuffed animals on the floor.
JAY: Meow, splat, meow, splat.
NIKHIL: This is harder than I thought. Here, kitty-kitty. Sit.
DESCRIPTION: Jay turns and looks at Nikhil.
JAY: Meow? Meow.
[Tense music plays, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay leaps towards Nikhil.
JAY: Meow!
NIKHIL: No! Not a kitten splat!
[Boing, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil trips over a bunny stuffy and falls.
NIKHIL: Wah!
DESCRIPTION: Jay leaps on Nikhil.
JAY: Meow.
[Nikhil and Jay grunt, boxes clatter, toy duck quacks]
DESCRIPTION: Boxes fly up into the air. Nikhil lies on the floor with Jay leaning on his back. Pieces of the cardboard cat bed lie scattered around them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh-oh!
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma enter the room.
AMMA: Hey. What's all the noise? Are you two okay?
[Light music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh, Amma, Appa! We're not ready to have kittens!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lies on the floor, and Jay’s shoulders slump.
AMMA: Hey?
APPA: Huh?
AMMA AND APPA: Kittens?
JAY: Yeah, Max is having kittens.
NIKHIL: She was really sleepy and hungry. Just like the neighbour's cat.
[Bell dings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
AMMA: Huh?
AMMA AND APPA: Oh!
[Parents laugh]
APPA: Boys, Max isn't having kittens.
JAY: She's not?
APPA: No.
[Appa laughs]
APPA: Max is always hungry and sleepy.
AMMA: And she's our one and only cat. We only need Max.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Oh!
[Jay inhales deeply]
DESCRIPTION: Jay wipes his brow.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Phew!
[Boys laugh, Max meows]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm?
DESCRIPTION: Max stands between Appa and Amma.
APPA: Oh! Hello, there.
[Max meows, purrs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks to the pieces of the cardboard cat bed.
JAY: I'm glad you're our one and only cat, Max.
[Max meows, chiming, purring, Max snores]
DESCRIPTION: Hearts appear around Max, and she smiles. She jumps onto a pillow in a box, circles, and lies down.
NIKHIL: So am I.
[Star squeaks, rustling]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up Star and Chickpea, and puts one on each side of the box opening. Max opens her eyes and runs out of the box. She runs in circles around the family, and then out of the room.
NIKHIL: Uh-oh. She's got the zoomies again.
[Nikhil and Jay laugh, Max meows, everyone laughs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max runs around the coffee table. She runs between Appa’s legs towards the dining room.
APPA: Whoa! Hey!
[Appa grunts]
DESCRIPTION: Appa staggers, twirls, then lands on his right leg with his left leg lifted behind him.
APPA: Ooph!
[Appa sighs]
AMMA: Nice moves.
APPA: Ah, thank you.
[Appa screams, pieces clatter, thudding, Appa sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Appa leans on a carrom board, and it falls. He lands on the floor surrounded by carrom coins.
APPA: I'm okay, yeah.
[Everyone laughs, slide whistle, Max meows, purrs]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs into the room, leaps onto Appa’s back, and lies down.
[Upbeat music plays]

DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max stands over a purple ball. She pounces on it and throws it around the room. She chases it around a coffee table as Nikhil and Jay sit on the couch, watching.
JAY: Max has the zoomies!
[Nikhil and Jay laugh, both gasp, both laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Max chases the ball onto the coffee table, leaps into the air, then chases it out of the room. In the kitchen, Appa carries a stack of boxes.
APPA SINGS: Do-do-do-do-do.
[Max meows, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs past Appa, and he loses his balance.
APPA: Whoa!
[Max meows, Appa grunts, sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Appa shifts from one foot to the other, regaining his balance as Nikhil and Jay enter.
APPA: Well...
[Nikhil and Jay laugh]
JAY: Nice moves, Appa.
[Max meows, bell jingles, Max purrs, Max meows, munching, Appa laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks back to Appa and the boys and shakes her head. She lies down by her food bowl and eats.
APPA: It's a good job there's only one of you to watch out for, Max.
[Max meows, Jay laughs]
APPA: The neighbour's cat just had surprise kittens.
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Kittens!? Cool!
APPA: They wondered why she was so hungry and sleepy.
[Max munches, yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Max eats her food.
APPA: Turns out she was savin' her energy for the kittens. Seven of them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Whoa!
APPA: Imagine seven little Maxs runnin' 'round.
[Everyone laughs, Max slurps]
DESCRIPTION: Appa carries the boxes out of the room.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Max meows, purrs, snores, light music plays, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay watch Max walk away from her food bowl. She lies down on a carpet and falls asleep.
NIKHIL: Hm. Max is very hungry.
JAY: And very sleepy.
[Max meows, Nikhil and Jay gasp, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay smile and raise their arms.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Kittens!
NIKHIL: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay dance.
JAY: Best news ever, ever, ever!
AMMA: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
[Needle scratches a record]
AMMA: You're having a kitchen dance party? Without me?
[Nikhil and Jay laugh, Max meows and grumbles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma, Nikhil, and Jay dance. Max opens an eye and looks up.
NIKHIL: Huh?
NIKHIL AND JAY: Sorry, Max!
JAY: Max needs to save her energy.
NIKHIL: Quick! We have to get ready!
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run out of the room, and Amma dances.
AMMA SINGS: He-he-hey, he-he-hey.
[The music stops]
AMMA: Huh? Ready for what?
DESCRIPTION: In Nikhil and Jay’s bedroom, Jay puts his hands on his face.
JAY SHOUTS: Kittens! Ooh!
NIKHIL: I can't believe Max is gonna have kittens!
JAY: Yeah! Loads of fluffy kittens to play with. Aw!
[Chiming, Max purrs, energetic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay pets Max and hugs her.
JAY: Mm.
[Max purrs, Max meows]
JAY: Huh?
[Kittens meow, Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay notices two kittens.
JAY: Yes!
[Jay laughs, kittens purr, meowing, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Two more kittens appear.
JAY: Yay!
[Meowing]
DESCRIPTION: Two more kittens appear.
JAY: Uh...
[Kittens meow, Jay laughs, kittens purr]
DESCRIPTION: The kittens jump on Jay, and he falls backwards. The daydream ends, and Jay lies on the bedroom floor.
JAY: That tickles!
[Jay laughs, the music ends]
NIKHIL: Jay? Do you think Max'll have seven kittens just like the neighbour's cat?
JAY: Probably.
[Jay gasps, upbeat music plays]
JAY: We'll need seven more cat beds!
NIKHIL: Or, one big cat bed.
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands.
JAY: Yes! A mega cat bed!
NIKHIL: We can make it out of Max's favourite thing.
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps.
JAY: Yes! Like tuna!
[Nikhil laughs, the music stops]
NIKHIL: No, Jay. Cardboard boxes.
JAY: Oh, yeah. Quick! Let's get some from Appa.
NIKHIL: Jay, wait.
[Tires screech, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stop by their bedroom door.
JAY: Huh?
NIKHIL: We should tell Amma and Appa the big news first.
JAY: Or we could keep it as a surprise. They'll love it!
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his arms and jumps.
NIKHIL: But you can't keep surprises, Jay.
JAY: Yes, I c--No, I can't. But, this time I will.
[Slide whistle, Appa sighs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Outside, Nikhil and Jay watch Appa remove the stack of boxes from the blue bin.
APPA: There we are.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Thanks, Appa.
APPA: So, what are you makin' with them, eh?
JAY: We're making a mega c—
[Jay gasps]
APPA: "A mega cat?"
[Muffled groaning]
DESCRIPTION: Jay twitches with his lips pressed tightly together.
NIKHIL: Uh, he means, uh, categories.
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay smiles and nods.
APPA: You mean you're going to sort your toys into different categories?
NIKHIL: Uh, yes.
[Appa gasps]
APPA: That's so organized!
[Appa sniffles]
APPA: You're just like me. Ooh, ooh!
[Boys gasp]
APPA: How are you organizin' them? By colour, or by animals, hm?
DESCRIPTION: The boys smile broadly.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh...It's a surprise!
[Ding]
DESCRIPTION: Appa winks.
APPA: Oh! Okay.
[Appa hums, Nikhil and Jay sigh]
DESCRIPTION: Appa walks away, and the boys stop smiling.
[Upbeat music plays, Jay gasps, boxes rustle]
DESCRIPTION: In their bedroom, Nikhil and Jay arrange the boxes.
NIKHIL: A-ha!
[Max meows, thud]
DESCRIPTION: Max arrives with her purple ball. She drops it and runs into a box turned on the side.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Nikhil a small box, and Nikhil puts it on top of a larger box.
NIKHIL: Uh-huh.
[Slide whistle, Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max reaches down from the top bunk and knocks the small box to the floor.
JAY: Huh?
[Slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Nikhil the small box, and Nikhil puts it on the larger box. His mouth drops open. Max knocks it over towards Nikhil’s head.
NIKHIL: Wah!
[Nikhil sighs, Max purrs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil tapes the boxes together.
JAY: Uh-huh! Yes!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Both shout, tape crinkles, Max meows, boys sigh]
DESCRIPTION: On the floor, Max plays with the roll of tape.
[Chiming, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, a painting of Max leans against a three-floor cardboard cat bed, featuring a balcony and turret at the top, a basket of toys beside the small box and a large opening filled with pillows.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ta-da!
JAY: One mega cat bed!
[Hands slap, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay high-five.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yeah!
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max rolls her eyes, then jumps on Jay’s bed next to Chickpea and Star.
NIKHIL: Come on, Max. Try it out.
JAY: Yeah!
[Whoosh, Max meows, upbeat music plays, Max meows, thump, Nikhil sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Max looks at the cat bed, then shakes her head. She stares at Nikhil as she knocks Chickpea over and jumps on Star.
JAY: She loves our toys more than her cat bed.
[Max purrs, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Max rubs her head against Star as hearts surround them.
NIKHIL: If one cat loves our toys so much, what will happen when there are seven?
[Cats meow, Nikhil sighs, drawer thumps, cat meows]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil watches a cat jump on his bed as another cat runs across the room. He opens a dresser drawer and a pink cat smiles up at him.
NIKHIL: Uh.
[Slide whistle, Max meows, purring]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil takes Raju out of the drawer and swings it. When he lifts it again, Max clings to Raju’s back.
NIKHIL: A-ha! Uh...
[Max purrs, Nikhil sighs, cats meow, slide whistle, angry cat yowling, Nikhil grunts, horn honks, whirring]
DESCRIPTION: Two cats pull Star between them, and Nikhil pulls on the middle of the stuffy.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Whirring, panicked meowing, Max meows, Nikhil gasps, yelps]
DESCRIPTION: Max smiles as she rides on a toy monster truck and chases another cat across the room. Nikhil dives out of the way and lies on the floor, covering his head with his hands. The daydream ends and Nikhil kneels on the floor.
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Hm, actually, seven kittens will really love our toys. We need to hide them!
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
JAY: On it!
DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up a stuffed rabbit and a stuffed elephant. Nikhil picks up a pink bear stuffy just as Amma looks into the room.
AMMA: Huh? Nikhil, Jay, what are you up to?
[Toy squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts toys into a box.
NIKHIL: Just, um, sorting our toys into categories.
[Squeak, Appa laughs, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Appa pokes his head into the doorway.
APPA: Just like their Appa.
[Amma laughs, squeak, upbeat music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Appa moves out of the doorway.
AMMA: Where's Jay?
JAY: Here!
[Toy squeaks, duck toy quacks, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his hand in the centre of a pile of toys.
AMMA: Uh...
[Amma sighs]
AMMA: Okay.
[Footsteps tap, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Amma backs away from the door.
NIKHIL: Hm. Where's Max?
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Maybe she's had the kittens already.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay tiptoe to the cardboard box cat bed.
JAY: Max? Max?
[Jay gasps, Max meows]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Max purrs, meows]
DESCRIPTION: In the hallway, Max hits her purple ball and chases it.
[Nikhil sighs]
NIKHIL: Now, she's just playing with her ball.
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Max loves her ball, so her kittens will love playing with balls too.
[Nikhil gasps]
NIKHIL: So, we'll need seven balls for seven kittens.
[Bell dings, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods. Later, in the living room, the boys stand with their hands on their hips.
NIKHIL: Hm. Do you think it'll be enough?
DESCRIPTION: Appa arrives as Nikhil and Jay stare at 15 balls on the floor.
APPA: Hey, why are there so many—
[Slide whistle, Appa shouts, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Appa steps on the balls and slides into the kitchen. He twirls, then grabs the counter and falls against the edge.
APPA: Ooph!
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Oops. Sorry! Really nice moves, Appa.
[Appa sighs, Nikhil and Jay chuckle nervously, upbeat music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Jay holds up two balls.
JAY: We'll put these away.
[Whoosh, thump, Max meows, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up a blue ball. He reaches for the purple ball, and Max jumps on it.
NIKHIL: Max, that's not for you. That's for your kitten.
JAY: Yeah, give it back!
[Max meows, boys sigh, balls clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Max chases the ball down the hallway. Jay and Nikhil fall to their knees and drop the balls.
JAY: Max never, ever, ever listens to us!
[Jay gasps]
JAY: What if the kittens don't either?
NIKHIL: Good point. We'll have to train them. Hm, but I never trained a kitten before.
JAY: That's okay. You can practise on me. Meow.
[Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: Okay!
[Nikhil laughs]
JAY SINGS: Meow.
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs away on all fours, and Nikhil chases him. In the living room, Appa dusts a bookshelf.
APPA SINGS: Boop-be-doop-doop-doo.
JAY: Meow!
DESCRIPTION: Jay crawls up the stairs.
APPA: Oh, Max.
JAY: Meow.
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max runs past Appa.
APPA: Huh?
NIKHIL: Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil follows Jay up the stairs.
APPA: Huh? Hang on. When did we get two cats?
JAY: Meow.
[Boings, Nikhil laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil follows Jay into their bedroom.
NIKHIL: That's a good kitty. Now, do exactly what I say.
JAY: Meow. Okay!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil spins.
NIKHIL: Spin 'round and roll on your back.
JAY: Meow. Meow!
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay turns in a circle, then lies on his back, pawing the air with his hands.
NIKHIL: Jay, be a naughty kitten, so I can train you to listen.
DESCRIPTION: Jay crouches on all fours and looks at the cardboard cat bed.
JAY: Meow.
[Slide whistle, toys squeak, thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay crawls to the bed and knocks Raju to the floor. He throws the elephant stuffy over his shoulder.
JAY: Meow. Splat. Meow. Splat.
NIKHIL: That's it. Now, sit.
[Whooshing, toys squeak, thumps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay throws stuffed animals on the floor.
JAY: Meow. Splat. Meow, splat, meow, splat.
NIKHIL: I said, "Sit."
[Rocket ship clatters, whooshing, toys squeak, toy duck quacks]
DESCRIPTION: Jay throws a toy rocket ship and more stuffed animals on the floor.
JAY: Meow, splat, meow, splat.
NIKHIL: This is harder than I thought. Here, kitty-kitty. Sit.
DESCRIPTION: Jay turns and looks at Nikhil.
JAY: Meow? Meow.
[Tense music plays, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay leaps towards Nikhil.
JAY: Meow!
NIKHIL: No! Not a kitten splat!
[Boing, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil trips over a bunny stuffy and falls.
NIKHIL: Wah!
DESCRIPTION: Jay leaps on Nikhil.
JAY: Meow.
[Nikhil and Jay grunt, boxes clatter, toy duck quacks]
DESCRIPTION: Boxes fly up into the air. Nikhil lies on the floor with Jay leaning on his back. Pieces of the cardboard cat bed lie scattered around them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh-oh!
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma enter the room.
AMMA: Hey. What's all the noise? Are you two okay?
[Light music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh, Amma, Appa! We're not ready to have kittens!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lies on the floor, and Jay’s shoulders slump.
AMMA: Hey?
APPA: Huh?
AMMA AND APPA: Kittens?
JAY: Yeah, Max is having kittens.
NIKHIL: She was really sleepy and hungry. Just like the neighbour's cat.
[Bell dings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
AMMA: Huh?
AMMA AND APPA: Oh!
[Parents laugh]
APPA: Boys, Max isn't having kittens.
JAY: She's not?
APPA: No.
[Appa laughs]
APPA: Max is always hungry and sleepy.
AMMA: And she's our one and only cat. We only need Max.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Oh!
[Jay inhales deeply]
DESCRIPTION: Jay wipes his brow.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Phew!
[Boys laugh, Max meows]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm?
DESCRIPTION: Max stands between Appa and Amma.
APPA: Oh! Hello, there.
[Max meows, purrs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks to the pieces of the cardboard cat bed.
JAY: I'm glad you're our one and only cat, Max.
[Max meows, chiming, purring, Max snores]
DESCRIPTION: Hearts appear around Max, and she smiles. She jumps onto a pillow in a box, circles, and lies down.
NIKHIL: So am I.
[Star squeaks, rustling]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up Star and Chickpea, and puts one on each side of the box opening. Max opens her eyes and runs out of the box. She runs in circles around the family, and then out of the room.
NIKHIL: Uh-oh. She's got the zoomies again.
[Nikhil and Jay laugh, Max meows, everyone laughs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Max runs around the coffee table. She runs between Appa’s legs towards the dining room.
APPA: Whoa! Hey!
[Appa grunts]
DESCRIPTION: Appa staggers, twirls, then lands on his right leg with his left leg lifted behind him.
APPA: Ooph!
[Appa sighs]
AMMA: Nice moves.
APPA: Ah, thank you.
[Appa screams, pieces clatter, thudding, Appa sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Appa leans on a carrom board, and it falls. He lands on the floor surrounded by carrom coins.
APPA: I'm okay, yeah.
[Everyone laughs, slide whistle, Max meows, purrs]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs into the room, leaps onto Appa’s back, and lies down.
[Upbeat music plays]
