DESCRIPTION: In an animation, the front door of a townhouse opens, and Nikhil smiles. He has short brown hair and brown eyes and wears a red hooded sweater. Inside the house, his little brother, Jay, also has short brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a purple shirt with blue-green trim.
NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil.
JAY: And I'm Jay!
[Map rustles, boings, plane whooshes, Appa shouts, Amma laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map showing a small boat in the water off the coast of South India. Amma’s face appears. She has chin-length brown hair with a yellow bow. A plane flies to England, and Appa’s face appears. He has short brown hair and a beard. A heart-shaped outline surrounds them. Amma dances, and Appa holds a cat-shaped mug.
[Song] Here's a little story about where our family's from. It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa. She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa. Oh. And then we came along. Oh. And this is our song.

DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces with his arms in the air.
JAY: Being loud!
[Chimes, coins rattle, rocket ship whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: They high-five and daydream about riding coins on a carrom board. In outer space, they peer through the window of a rocket ship.
[Song] We both love to dream. We can shoot a carrom pocket. Yeah, or blast off in a rocket. We make the greatest team.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump.
[Needle scratches a record, slide whistle]
NIKHIL: Wait.
JAY: What?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold a picture of their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has short black hair and wears a yellow shirt and a blue saree. Thatha has short white hair and wears a yellow jacket, a white shirt, and eyeglasses on a chain around his neck.
NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha.
[Jim and Nana exclaim]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana stand behind Nikhil and Jay. Jim has short brown hair and holds a tray of food. He wears a green shirt and brown pants. Nana holds her lollipop traffic sign turned red.
JAY: And Jim and Nana.
NIKHIL: And don't forget Max the cat.
[Max meows, crash, slide whistles]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs to Star and puts his hands on the ground on the other side of the stuffy.
NIKHIL: Found you!
[Nikhil laughs, boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs past Nikhil.
JAY: Can't stop, Nikhil! I'm racing Chickpea.
[Slide whistle, boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay slides across the grass on his knees. He jumps to his feet and dances.
JAY: Whoo! Yes! I won! Again!
[Jay giggles]
JAY: Huh?
[Soft music notes play, thump, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Behind Jay, Chickpea falls on its side.
JAY: Chickpea, you haven't even started.
[Jay sighs, upbeat music plays, squeak, Max meows, Jay giggles, Nikhil and Jay gasp]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil places Star beside Chickpea, then Max arrives, sits between the two stuffies, and smiles.
AMMA: Ayyo...
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh...
[Appa exclaims]
JAY: Uh-oh.
NIKHIL: I'm going to see what Appa's doing.
JAY: Good idea! I'll see if Amma's doing something cool.
[Max meows, boings, Star squeaks, the music stops, boing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run in opposite directions. After they leave, Max knocks Chickpea over and jumps on Star. Max sits between them and smiles broadly. At Amma’s shed, Jay jumps into the doorway.
JAY: Amma! Amma! Amma!
[Startled music notes play]
JAY: Huh? Appa?! What are you doing in Amma's shed?
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the shed, Appa sits at the sewing machine, sewing blue and pink checkered pants.
APPA: Hm. I'm mending me jim-jams, of course.
[Appa chuckles, slide whistle]
JAY: Uh... Why? Amma is the sewing machine queen.
APPA: I think you'll find I can be a bit of a wiz with the old needle and thread too.
[Whirring]
DESCRIPTION: The sewing machine starts.
JAY SHOUTS: Ah!
APPA: Whoo-hoo-hoo!
[Whirring stops]
APPA: Oh.
JAY: Really...?
APPA: Well no, not really. But I'm giving it a go. It's good to swap things round sometimes.
[Light music notes play]
JAY: Huh? Hm...Okay! Happy jim-jam fixing!
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay leaves the shed, and Appa turns and looks at the sewing machine.
APPA: Bye! Right, you. Don't mess with me.
[Sewing machine whirrs]
APPA: Whaa!
[Crashing, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Appa holds up a thumbs-up.
APPA: I'm fine.
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Amma holds her hand to her chin and looks at stacked bowls, pots, and containers.
AMMA: Hm.
NIKHIL: Appa! Appa! Appa!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil enters the kitchen, then stops.
NIKHIL: Eh? Amma?!
[Upbeat music plays]
AMMA: Oh! Hi, chellam.
NIKHIL: Why are you staring at boxes?
AMMA: I'm just reorganizing the cupboards.
NIKHIL: What?! Appa usually does that.
[Guitar riff plays]
AMMA: Appa usually air guitars. But I can do that too.
[Amma imitates a guitar, Nikhil laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Amma plays air guitar.
AMMA: See, it's good to swap things sometimes.
[Both laugh, upbeat music notes play, footsteps patter]
NIKHIL: Okay! Happy swapping!
AMMA SINGS: Bye!
[Amma imitates a guitar, clatter, Amma gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Amma plays air guitar and a container falls off the counter.
AMMA: Ayyo...
[Whoosh, Max meows, toy creaks, slide whistle, Star squeaks, tires screech, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the backyard, Max bites the left ear on Chickpea and pulls. Max belly flops onto Star as Nikhil and Jay arrive.
NIKHIL: Ah! Jay, Amma's doing Appa things!
JAY: And Appa's doing Amma things!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm...
NIKHIL: It must be...
[Jay gasps]
NIKHIL: Swapsies day!
[Jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps excitedly, raising his arms and smiling.
JAY: Yay! I want to play swapsies day too!
NIKHIL: Yeah! But... what should we swap?
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil holds Star with his left arm.
NIKHIL: Hm. Shoe swap!
[Chiming, pop]
DESCRIPTION: Jay’s shoe appears on Nikhil’s foot, covering only the front.
NIKHIL: Ooh! Uh-oh.
[Wobbling, slide whistle, thump, Star squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil falls, dropping Star.
NIKHIL: Nope. Outfits?
[Nikhil gasps, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay’s toy butterfly wings appear on Nikhil’s back.
NIKHIL: Jay's butterfly wings?
[Fluttering, slide whistle, thump, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil flaps his right arm. He flies in a loop, dropping Star, and hits the arm of a giant Chickpea. Nikhil flaps his right arm.
NIKHIL: Wha! Whaaa! Ah! Nope. I don't have any flying experience! Huh? Chickpea?
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Chickpea raises its left arm and leaps into outer space. Nikhil smiles and holds onto the head of the stuffy.
NIKHIL: Whoa! Chickpea, you're so cool!
[Nikhil giggles, Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the backyard, Nikhil takes Star away from Max.
NIKHIL: Sorry, Max!
[Max meows]
NIKHIL: Actually, we can swap our toys!
JAY: So, I play with Star, and you play with Chickpea?
[Dinging]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil nods.
JAY: Okay!
[Jay laughs, slide whistle, Max meows, whooshing, Max squeaks, slide whistle, thumps, Star squeaks, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay throw Star and Chickpea into the air. Max leaps, swings her paw at the toys, misses them both, and falls. Nikhil catches Chickpea, and Jay catches Star.
NIKHIL: Yeah! Mission swapsies is go, go, go!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil swings Chickpea in the air as Jay runs past, pushing Star on a blue car. Max chases Jay.
JAY: Vroom-vroom!
[Max meows]
JAY: I love playing with Star, Nikhil!
[Jay laughs, whoosh, wheels rattle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil throws Chickpea into the air and catches it. Jay pushes Star on the car.
JAY: Look at him go! Star power! Yeah!
[Max meows, Nikhil chuckles]
NIKHIL: And I love playing with Chickpea!
JAY: Zoom!
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil flies Chickpea in the air in front of him.
NIKHIL: He's the fastest slow-loris space rocket I've ever played with! Vroom!
[Jay laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs past Amma’s shed, flying Chickpea like a rocket.
APPA: Whaa!
[Jay gasps, tires screech, Max grumbles, Appa gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stops running, and Max bumps into him.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh-oh.
[Sewing machine whirrs, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay peek into Amma’s shed through the windows. Inside, Appa watches the sewing machine sew his checkered jammie pants.
APPA: Argh! You're supposed to mend me jammies, not chew 'em up! Ayyo...!
[Boys laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay glance at each other, then walk away from the window.
NIKHIL: Appa is starting to sound like Amma!
[Boys laugh, crashing, both gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ah!
[Amma sighs, inhales deeply, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay peek through the kitchen doorway where Amma stands behind the counter.
AMMA: Now, I need an Appa cuppa.
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
AMMA: Now where did I put those teabags?
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lifts containers and looks beneath them.
AMMA: Hm...
NIKHIL: And Amma sounds like Appa now!
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stand outside with their hands on their chins.
JAY: Hm. Maybe they're not just swapping jobs on swapsies day...
NIKHIL: Ah! They're swapping being each other!
[Dramatic music plays, Nikhil and Jay gasp, both scream, ding]
JAY: Whoa! What if we swap around too?
[Drumroll plays, lively music plays, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay daydreams about his legs growing longer, and wearing Nikhil’s pants and shoes.
JAY: Yeah!
[Jay laughs, chiming, Jay gasps, slide whistles, popping]
DESCRIPTION: Jay grows and wears a red hooded sweater.
JAY: Uh...Whoa...Huh?
[Jay laughs]
JAY, IN A DEEP VOICE: Actually, I'm Nikhil.
[Chiming, jumps boing, the music ends]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the backyard, Jay smiles and points at himself. He jumps excitedly.
JAY: Nikhil! Nikhil! I can be you!
[Nikhil gasps]
JAY: Watch!
[Jay clears his throat, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a split screen, Jay dances, throws Star into the air, and reads a book.
JAY, IN A DEEP VOICE: "I'm Nikhil, and mission swapsies is go, go, go!"
[Whooshing, Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: You sound just like me!
[Jay giggles]
NIKHIL: Okay, I'll be you. Watch!
[Nikhil laughs, light music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil’s eyes grow large and shine.
NIKHIL, IN A HIGH VOICE: "Swapsies is the best game ever, ever, ever!"
[Jay giggles, upbeat music plays, boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs across the grass.
JAY: Come on, Nikhil. Oh, I mean Jay!
NIKHIL: Coming, Jay! Oh, sorry! I mean, Nikhil.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In Nikhil and Jay’s bedroom, Jay sits on the top bunk.
JAY: Yay! Bed swapsies! I can see everything from up here!
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil bounces on the bottom bunk, and Max jumps up beside him.
NIKHIL: Mm... Oof! And your bed is so...Boinky!
[Max meows, Jay laughs, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay climbs down the bunkbed ladder, then takes a red crayon out of a package.
JAY: Yes!
NIKHIL: Hey, they're my crayons.
JAY: Not anymore! I'm Nikhil, remember? And I'm going to do an amazing drawing!
NIKHIL: Okay, cool.
[Nikhil laughs, crayons thud, tires screech]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs, and the crayons fall out of the package. He stops and looks at the floor.
JAY: Huh? Oh no, I've made a mess!
[Nikhil giggles]
NIKHIL: But you always make a mess!
[Jay laughs]
JAY: I know! But now I'm you, and you never make a mess.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up crayons.
NIKHIL: Hm... You're right! And I'm you. So, I never tidy up.
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil drops the crayons, and Jay picks them up. Nikhil raises his arms.
NIKHIL: Yay! Messiest room ever, ever, ever!
[Jay sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil kicks a soccer ball, then drops Raju and a blue car on the floor.
NIKHIL: Zoo-whee! Whoo-hoo!
[Jay gasps, wheels rattle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pushes the car.
NIKHIL: Whoosh!
[Max meows, Jay sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Jay puts Raju in a toy bin, then puts his left hand on his lower back.
JAY: Actually, it's quite hard being you, Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Wheee! Whoa!
[Slide whistle, thump, Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs, slips on the car and falls.
JAY: Oh.
NIKHIL: It's hard being you too, Jay.
AMMA: Nikhil! Jay!
[Boys gasp]
AMMA: Could you come down here, please?
[Upbeat music notes play]
NIKHIL: Remember, you're Nikhil, and I'm Jay.
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
[The music ends, Amma grunts]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Amma leans against a bulging cupboard door, with pans, containers, and utensils poking out the sides as Nikhil and Jay arrive.
NIKHIL: Are you okay, Amma?
[Light music plays]
AMMA: Yep! I just need your help with the last few bits! Nikhil, can you grab that basket of washing? And, Jay, can you put those mangos away?
DESCRIPTION: Amma points to a basket of laundry and a crate of mangos. Nikhil and Jay salute Amma.
NIKHIL: Okay, Amma!
JAY: Okay!
[Squeak, slide whistle, Amma grunts, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles at Amma and picks up the basket. Jay smiles as he picks up the crate.
AMMA: Make sure you put them all in the fruit bowl, Jay!
JAY: Hm.
[Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay points at Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Oh yeah...I'm Jay.
[Whoosh, items clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts the basket on the counter and socks fall on fruit in the fruit bowl. Amma holds the cupboard door shut with her eyes shut.
AMMA: And get it all by the washing machine, Nikhil! Don't drop any!
[Nikhil giggles, whoosh, thunk]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles at Jay, and Jay puts the mangos in front of the washing machine.
JAY: And I'm Nikhil!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Done!
[The music stops]
AMMA: Oh, thank you—Ay-yo-yo! What are the socks doing in the fruit bowl?!
NIKHIL: Um...
DESCRIPTION: Amma carries the basket to the washing machine.
AMMA: They should be by the washing ma—
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Amma bumps into the crate and mangos fall on the floor.
AMMA: Mangos?! Right. Boys, what's going on?
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm...I'm sor--
[Clanging, slide whistle, thump, boing]
DESCRIPTION: The cupboard door opens, and pots, utensils, bowls, and containers spill onto the floor. Appa runs into the kitchen.
APPA: Hey, what's going on?
[Tense music plays, thud]
DESCRIPTION: Appa trips on a mango, loses his balance, and knocks over the fruit bowl as he falls.
APPA: Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa! Oh!
[Appa groans, descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Appa takes a purple sock off his head.
APPA: I'm not even going to ask.
[Soft music plays]
JAY: Sorry! I put the mangos by the washing machine, because I'm Nikhil!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil nods.
NIKHIL: And I put the washing in the fruit bowl, because I'm Jay!
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max rolls her eyes.
NIKHIL: We swapped being each other just like you swapped, Amma and Appa.
JAY: It's swapsies day!
AMMA AND APPA: Oh...
[Parents laugh]
NIKHIL: But actually, swapsies is...
EVERYONE: Really hard!
[Amma laughs]
AMMA: Maybe we're all better off being ourselves. Do you want me to mend your pyjamas?
APPA: Yes! I mean, erm, yes. Please. As long as I can tidy up in here.
AMMA: Yes. Yes! Yes!
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa snuggle and a pink heart appears between them.
AMMA: Thank you.
[Nikhil and Jay laugh]
JAY: Can I be Jay again, please?
NIKHIL: Yes! I want to be Nikhil again too.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yeah!

MAX: Whoa!

DESCRIPTION: Max lands on a carrom board, knocking the game coins and the stuffies to the floor. Nikhil and Jay look at each other and smile. Max smiles and winks at us.

DESCRIPTION: Behind Jay, Chickpea falls on its side.
JAY: Chickpea, you haven't even started.
[Jay sighs, upbeat music plays, squeak, Max meows, Jay giggles, Nikhil and Jay gasp]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil places Star beside Chickpea, then Max arrives, sits between the two stuffies, and smiles.
AMMA: Ayyo...
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh...
[Appa exclaims]
JAY: Uh-oh.
NIKHIL: I'm going to see what Appa's doing.
JAY: Good idea! I'll see if Amma's doing something cool.
[Max meows, boings, Star squeaks, the music stops, boing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run in opposite directions. After they leave, Max knocks Chickpea over and jumps on Star. Max sits between them and smiles broadly. At Amma’s shed, Jay jumps into the doorway.
JAY: Amma! Amma! Amma!
[Startled music notes play]
JAY: Huh? Appa?! What are you doing in Amma's shed?
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the shed, Appa sits at the sewing machine, sewing blue and pink checkered pants.
APPA: Hm. I'm mending me jim-jams, of course.
[Appa chuckles, slide whistle]
JAY: Uh... Why? Amma is the sewing machine queen.
APPA: I think you'll find I can be a bit of a wiz with the old needle and thread too.
[Whirring]
DESCRIPTION: The sewing machine starts.
JAY SHOUTS: Ah!
APPA: Whoo-hoo-hoo!
[Whirring stops]
APPA: Oh.
JAY: Really...?
APPA: Well no, not really. But I'm giving it a go. It's good to swap things round sometimes.
[Light music notes play]
JAY: Huh? Hm...Okay! Happy jim-jam fixing!
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay leaves the shed, and Appa turns and looks at the sewing machine.
APPA: Bye! Right, you. Don't mess with me.
[Sewing machine whirrs]
APPA: Whaa!
[Crashing, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Appa holds up a thumbs-up.
APPA: I'm fine.
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Amma holds her hand to her chin and looks at stacked bowls, pots, and containers.
AMMA: Hm.
NIKHIL: Appa! Appa! Appa!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil enters the kitchen, then stops.
NIKHIL: Eh? Amma?!
[Upbeat music plays]
AMMA: Oh! Hi, chellam.
NIKHIL: Why are you staring at boxes?
AMMA: I'm just reorganizing the cupboards.
NIKHIL: What?! Appa usually does that.
[Guitar riff plays]
AMMA: Appa usually air guitars. But I can do that too.
[Amma imitates a guitar, Nikhil laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Amma plays air guitar.
AMMA: See, it's good to swap things sometimes.
[Both laugh, upbeat music notes play, footsteps patter]
NIKHIL: Okay! Happy swapping!
AMMA SINGS: Bye!
[Amma imitates a guitar, clatter, Amma gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Amma plays air guitar and a container falls off the counter.
AMMA: Ayyo...
[Whoosh, Max meows, toy creaks, slide whistle, Star squeaks, tires screech, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the backyard, Max bites the left ear on Chickpea and pulls. Max belly flops onto Star as Nikhil and Jay arrive.
NIKHIL: Ah! Jay, Amma's doing Appa things!
JAY: And Appa's doing Amma things!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm...
NIKHIL: It must be...
[Jay gasps]
NIKHIL: Swapsies day!
[Jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps excitedly, raising his arms and smiling.
JAY: Yay! I want to play swapsies day too!
NIKHIL: Yeah! But... what should we swap?
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil holds Star with his left arm.
NIKHIL: Hm. Shoe swap!
[Chiming, pop]
DESCRIPTION: Jay’s shoe appears on Nikhil’s foot, covering only the front.
NIKHIL: Ooh! Uh-oh.
[Wobbling, slide whistle, thump, Star squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil falls, dropping Star.
NIKHIL: Nope. Outfits?
[Nikhil gasps, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay’s toy butterfly wings appear on Nikhil’s back.
NIKHIL: Jay's butterfly wings?
[Fluttering, slide whistle, thump, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil flaps his right arm. He flies in a loop, dropping Star, and hits the arm of a giant Chickpea. Nikhil flaps his right arm.
NIKHIL: Wha! Whaaa! Ah! Nope. I don't have any flying experience! Huh? Chickpea?
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Chickpea raises its left arm and leaps into outer space. Nikhil smiles and holds onto the head of the stuffy.
NIKHIL: Whoa! Chickpea, you're so cool!
[Nikhil giggles, Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the backyard, Nikhil takes Star away from Max.
NIKHIL: Sorry, Max!
[Max meows]
NIKHIL: Actually, we can swap our toys!
JAY: So, I play with Star, and you play with Chickpea?
[Dinging]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil nods.
JAY: Okay!
[Jay laughs, slide whistle, Max meows, whooshing, Max squeaks, slide whistle, thumps, Star squeaks, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay throw Star and Chickpea into the air. Max leaps, swings her paw at the toys, misses them both, and falls. Nikhil catches Chickpea, and Jay catches Star.
NIKHIL: Yeah! Mission swapsies is go, go, go!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil swings Chickpea in the air as Jay runs past, pushing Star on a blue car. Max chases Jay.
JAY: Vroom-vroom!
[Max meows]
JAY: I love playing with Star, Nikhil!
[Jay laughs, whoosh, wheels rattle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil throws Chickpea into the air and catches it. Jay pushes Star on the car.
JAY: Look at him go! Star power! Yeah!
[Max meows, Nikhil chuckles]
NIKHIL: And I love playing with Chickpea!
JAY: Zoom!
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil flies Chickpea in the air in front of him.
NIKHIL: He's the fastest slow-loris space rocket I've ever played with! Vroom!
[Jay laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs past Amma’s shed, flying Chickpea like a rocket.
APPA: Whaa!
[Jay gasps, tires screech, Max grumbles, Appa gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stops running, and Max bumps into him.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh-oh.
[Sewing machine whirrs, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay peek into Amma’s shed through the windows. Inside, Appa watches the sewing machine sew his checkered jammie pants.
APPA: Argh! You're supposed to mend me jammies, not chew 'em up! Ayyo...!
[Boys laugh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay glance at each other, then walk away from the window.
NIKHIL: Appa is starting to sound like Amma!
[Boys laugh, crashing, both gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ah!
[Amma sighs, inhales deeply, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay peek through the kitchen doorway where Amma stands behind the counter.
AMMA: Now, I need an Appa cuppa.
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
AMMA: Now where did I put those teabags?
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lifts containers and looks beneath them.
AMMA: Hm...
NIKHIL: And Amma sounds like Appa now!
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stand outside with their hands on their chins.
JAY: Hm. Maybe they're not just swapping jobs on swapsies day...
NIKHIL: Ah! They're swapping being each other!
[Dramatic music plays, Nikhil and Jay gasp, both scream, ding]
JAY: Whoa! What if we swap around too?
[Drumroll plays, lively music plays, slide whistles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay daydreams about his legs growing longer, and wearing Nikhil’s pants and shoes.
JAY: Yeah!
[Jay laughs, chiming, Jay gasps, slide whistles, popping]
DESCRIPTION: Jay grows and wears a red hooded sweater.
JAY: Uh...Whoa...Huh?
[Jay laughs]
JAY, IN A DEEP VOICE: Actually, I'm Nikhil.
[Chiming, jumps boing, the music ends]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the backyard, Jay smiles and points at himself. He jumps excitedly.
JAY: Nikhil! Nikhil! I can be you!
[Nikhil gasps]
JAY: Watch!
[Jay clears his throat, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a split screen, Jay dances, throws Star into the air, and reads a book.
JAY, IN A DEEP VOICE: "I'm Nikhil, and mission swapsies is go, go, go!"
[Whooshing, Nikhil laughs]
NIKHIL: You sound just like me!
[Jay giggles]
NIKHIL: Okay, I'll be you. Watch!
[Nikhil laughs, light music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil’s eyes grow large and shine.
NIKHIL, IN A HIGH VOICE: "Swapsies is the best game ever, ever, ever!"
[Jay giggles, upbeat music plays, boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs across the grass.
JAY: Come on, Nikhil. Oh, I mean Jay!
NIKHIL: Coming, Jay! Oh, sorry! I mean, Nikhil.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In Nikhil and Jay’s bedroom, Jay sits on the top bunk.
JAY: Yay! Bed swapsies! I can see everything from up here!
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil bounces on the bottom bunk, and Max jumps up beside him.
NIKHIL: Mm... Oof! And your bed is so...Boinky!
[Max meows, Jay laughs, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay climbs down the bunkbed ladder, then takes a red crayon out of a package.
JAY: Yes!
NIKHIL: Hey, they're my crayons.
JAY: Not anymore! I'm Nikhil, remember? And I'm going to do an amazing drawing!
NIKHIL: Okay, cool.
[Nikhil laughs, crayons thud, tires screech]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs, and the crayons fall out of the package. He stops and looks at the floor.
JAY: Huh? Oh no, I've made a mess!
[Nikhil giggles]
NIKHIL: But you always make a mess!
[Jay laughs]
JAY: I know! But now I'm you, and you never make a mess.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up crayons.
NIKHIL: Hm... You're right! And I'm you. So, I never tidy up.
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil drops the crayons, and Jay picks them up. Nikhil raises his arms.
NIKHIL: Yay! Messiest room ever, ever, ever!
[Jay sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil kicks a soccer ball, then drops Raju and a blue car on the floor.
NIKHIL: Zoo-whee! Whoo-hoo!
[Jay gasps, wheels rattle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pushes the car.
NIKHIL: Whoosh!
[Max meows, Jay sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Jay puts Raju in a toy bin, then puts his left hand on his lower back.
JAY: Actually, it's quite hard being you, Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Wheee! Whoa!
[Slide whistle, thump, Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs, slips on the car and falls.
JAY: Oh.
NIKHIL: It's hard being you too, Jay.
AMMA: Nikhil! Jay!
[Boys gasp]
AMMA: Could you come down here, please?
[Upbeat music notes play]
NIKHIL: Remember, you're Nikhil, and I'm Jay.
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
[The music ends, Amma grunts]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Amma leans against a bulging cupboard door, with pans, containers, and utensils poking out the sides as Nikhil and Jay arrive.
NIKHIL: Are you okay, Amma?
[Light music plays]
AMMA: Yep! I just need your help with the last few bits! Nikhil, can you grab that basket of washing? And, Jay, can you put those mangos away?
DESCRIPTION: Amma points to a basket of laundry and a crate of mangos. Nikhil and Jay salute Amma.
NIKHIL: Okay, Amma!
JAY: Okay!
[Squeak, slide whistle, Amma grunts, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles at Amma and picks up the basket. Jay smiles as he picks up the crate.
AMMA: Make sure you put them all in the fruit bowl, Jay!
JAY: Hm.
[Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Jay points at Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Oh yeah...I'm Jay.
[Whoosh, items clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts the basket on the counter and socks fall on fruit in the fruit bowl. Amma holds the cupboard door shut with her eyes shut.
AMMA: And get it all by the washing machine, Nikhil! Don't drop any!
[Nikhil giggles, whoosh, thunk]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles at Jay, and Jay puts the mangos in front of the washing machine.
JAY: And I'm Nikhil!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Done!
[The music stops]
AMMA: Oh, thank you—Ay-yo-yo! What are the socks doing in the fruit bowl?!
NIKHIL: Um...
DESCRIPTION: Amma carries the basket to the washing machine.
AMMA: They should be by the washing ma—
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Amma bumps into the crate and mangos fall on the floor.
AMMA: Mangos?! Right. Boys, what's going on?
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hm...I'm sor--
[Clanging, slide whistle, thump, boing]
DESCRIPTION: The cupboard door opens, and pots, utensils, bowls, and containers spill onto the floor. Appa runs into the kitchen.
APPA: Hey, what's going on?
[Tense music plays, thud]
DESCRIPTION: Appa trips on a mango, loses his balance, and knocks over the fruit bowl as he falls.
APPA: Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa! Oh!
[Appa groans, descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Appa takes a purple sock off his head.
APPA: I'm not even going to ask.
[Soft music plays]
JAY: Sorry! I put the mangos by the washing machine, because I'm Nikhil!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil nods.
NIKHIL: And I put the washing in the fruit bowl, because I'm Jay!
DESCRIPTION: Jay nods.
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max rolls her eyes.
NIKHIL: We swapped being each other just like you swapped, Amma and Appa.
JAY: It's swapsies day!
AMMA AND APPA: Oh...
[Parents laugh]
NIKHIL: But actually, swapsies is...
EVERYONE: Really hard!
[Amma laughs]
AMMA: Maybe we're all better off being ourselves. Do you want me to mend your pyjamas?
APPA: Yes! I mean, erm, yes. Please. As long as I can tidy up in here.
AMMA: Yes. Yes! Yes!
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa snuggle and a pink heart appears between them.
AMMA: Thank you.
[Nikhil and Jay laugh]
JAY: Can I be Jay again, please?
NIKHIL: Yes! I want to be Nikhil again too.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yeah!
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hug and pink hearts appear around them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Mm...
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: On the couch, Max sits between Chickpea and Star.
NIKHIL: Swapsies back.
JAY: Swapsies!
[Slide whistle, Max meows, tense music plays, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil throws Chickpea into the air, and Jay throws Star. Max jumps and reaches for the stuffies, missing both.
MAX: Whoa!
[The music stops, Max meows, thud, carrom coins rattle, boys gasp, boys laugh, ding]
DESCRIPTION: Max lands on a carrom board, knocking the game coins and the stuffies to the floor. Nikhil and Jay look at each other and smile. Max smiles and winks at us.
[Upbeat music plays]
