NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil.
JAY: And I'm Jay!
[Map rustles, boings, plane whooshes, Appa shouts, Amma laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map showing a small boat in the water off the coast of South India. Amma’s face appears. She has chin-length brown hair with a yellow bow. A plane flies to England, and Appa’s face appears. He has short brown hair and a beard. A heart-shaped outline surrounds them. Amma dances, and Appa holds a cat-shaped mug.
[Song] Here's a little story about where our family's from. It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa. She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa. Oh. And then we came along. Oh. And this is our song.

DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces with his arms in the air.
JAY: Being loud!
[Chimes, coins rattle, rocket ship whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: They high-five and daydream about riding coins on a carrom board. In outer space, they peer through the window of a rocket ship.
[Song] We both love to dream. We can shoot a carrom pocket. Yeah, or blast off in a rocket. We make the greatest team.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump.
[Needle scratches a record, slide whistle]
NIKHIL: Wait.
JAY: What?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold a picture of their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has short black hair and wears a yellow shirt and a blue saree. Thatha has short white hair and wears a yellow jacket, a white shirt, and eyeglasses on a chain around his neck.
NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha.
[Jim and Nana exclaim]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana stand behind Nikhil and Jay. Jim has short brown hair and holds a tray of food. He wears a green shirt and brown pants. Nana holds her lollipop traffic sign turned red.
JAY: And Jim and Nana.
NIKHIL: And don't forget Max the cat.
[Max meows, crash, slide whistles]

DESCRIPTION: In his dark bedroom, Jay opens his eyes and sits up. On the top bunk, Nikhil awakens and sits up.
JAY: Yeah! Time to play!
[Jay and Nikhil giggle, thunder booms, clacking]
NIKHIL: Jay, did you hear the big, loud clackity-boom storm last night?
[Wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Jay shakes his head.
JAY: Uh-uh. Is it still out there?
[Jumps boing, boys giggle, curtains scrape, tense music plays, boys gasp, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run to their window and open the curtains. Outside, in the garden, an overturned flower pot and bench lie on the grass surrounded by scattered leaves.
JAY: Whoa! The garden is all topsy-turvy!
[Thunder booms, dramatic music notes play, wobbling, Max meows, whimpers]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks across the grass with her eyes spinning.
NIKHIL: And Max, too!
[Boys gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Amma! Amma! Amma!
[Amma groans, yawns, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Amma holds a teacup and rubs her left eye with her other hand. Beside her, Appa holds a teaspoon and a toothbrush.
APPA: So tired.
[Parents yawn, slide whistle, whooshing, Max grumbles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma takes the toothbrush from Appa’s hand and uses it to stir her tea. On the dining room table, Max lies in a magician’s top hat, smiling.
APPA: Oh, feeling tired, too, Max?
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stop in the dining room doorway and look at Max.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Max meows, descending music notes play]
JAY: Max! Cats don't sleep in a hat!
[Amma yawns, clinking, descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Max shuts her eyes. Behind the kitchen counter, Amma rests her head on her right hand and stirs her tea with a toothbrush.
NIKHIL: Amma, why are you using a toothbrush in your tea?
AMMA: Huh? Oops!
[Amma sighs, the music stops, tap]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Amma a teaspoon.
AMMA: Thank you, chellam.
[Appa yawns, footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Appa walks past everyone carrying a plant.
APPA: Morning, boys.
[Fridge door clicks]
DESCRIPTION: Appa opens the fridge and reaches to put the plant on a shelf.
[Descending music notes play]
JAY: Appa, why are you putting a plant in the fridge?
DESCRIPTION: Appa stops.
APPA: Huh?
[Appa chuckles]
APPA: Oh, yeah!
[Appa chuckles, fridge door clicks shut, upbeat music plays]
APPA: I thought it was the milk.
NIKHIL: Huh?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil scratches his head.
JAY: Eh? What's happening?
[Slide whistle, thunder booms]
NIKHIL: I think the clackity-boom storm made everything topsy-turvy!
[The music stops, slide whistles]
JAY: Oh! Like the garden. And Max and now Amma and Appa! Hmm.
[Thunder booms, lively music plays, wizard cackles, magic chimes, slide whistle, worm coos, magic chimes, slide whistles, wizard cackles, bounce boings]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, a grey storm cloud wearing a wizard hat and carrying a magic wand flies down to the garden and casts a spell on a worm. The worm turns upside down over the grass. The wizard casts a spell on Chickpea and Star, and they flip upside down. The wizard casts another spell, and the house turns upside down.
WIZARD: Topsy-turvy! Toot! Toot! Toot!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The wizard flips upside down.
WIZARD: It's all topsy-turvy!
[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the dining room, Jay smiles with big, shiny eyes. He bounces around the room, and Nikhil watches, smiling.
JAY: Bing! Ping! Boom! Toot! There was a storm wizard!
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Eh?
[Thunder booms, ding]
JAY: Amma and Appa are under the powerful storm spell.
NIKHIL: Yes! We need to break the spell. But with what?
[Upbeat music notes play, chiming]
JAY: I know! With magic!
[Jay giggles]
NIKHIL: Great idea, Jay.
[Whooshing, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Appa holds the plant as Jay bounces around him and Amma.
JAY: Tenta! Munta! Gee! Boom! Ba!
[Phone rings]
AMMA AND APPA: Oh!
[Phone rings, slide whistle, parents yawn]
DESCRIPTION: Amma uses a teacup as a phone, and Appa uses a banana.
AMMA AND APPA: Hello?
[Hands slap, descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay put their left hands against their faces.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hmm.
[Phone rings, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay shows Nikhil the phone, and Nikhil nods. Appa looks at the banana as Jay offers him the phone.
APPA: Oh.
[Appa chuckles, beep, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa answers the phone.
APPA: Hello?
DESCRIPTION: Appa covers the phone and turns to the boys.
APPA: Oh! It's Nana and Jim.
JAY: Yay!
NIKHIL: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Appa speaks into the phone.
APPA: Oh, dear, those too.
[Appa yawns, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other.
APPA: All right. Yeah. We'll see you when we see you.
[Beep]
DESCRIPTION: Appa ends the call and looks at the boys.
APPA: Storm problems. I think they're gonna be late.
[Appa yawns, Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Appa puts the phone in a fruit basket on the counter.
JAY: Oh dear.
NIKHIL: I've never seen them so topsy-turvy!
[Jay gasps]
JAY: I have an idea!
[Whoosh, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay move a large cardboard box into the living room.
JAY: Every magician has a box! Think about it! Rabbits pop out of...
NIKHIL: Hats?
[Creaking, squeak, chiming]
JAY: No! Boxes! And Santa always puts presents in—
NIKHIL: Stockings?
[Creaking, squeak, chiming, tap]
DESCRIPTION: Jay taps the edge of the box.
JAY: Well, yes. But also boxes. We just need to get Amma and Appa into this magical box. Then poof!
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps.
JAY: The storm spell will disappear.
[Whooshing, parents grunt, rustling, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay guide their parents into the box.
NIKHIL: That's it. Just climb into the big box right there, please.
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
APPA: Okay.
[Rustling, wink dings, Nikhil giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa sit in the box, and Nikhil and Jay wink at each other.
[Lively music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces around the room, holding his magic wand.
JAY: Jenta! Madda! Gee-boom-ba! Make the storm spell disappear!
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
[Parent grunt, rustling, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa squirm in the box, and it breaks.
JAY: Whoa! My storm spell was too powerful! It broke the box!
NIKHIL: But has it broken the storm spell?
[Parents groan, mumble, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa crawl away from the broken box. Jay tugs on Nikhil’s sleeve.
JAY: Uh. No! It's getting worse! They're crawling around like babies!
NIKHIL: Hmm. How can we break the storm spell?
[Cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil and the storm wizard stand on discs floating in the sky. Nikhil holds an umbrella and the wizard holds their wand.
NIKHIL: Haha!
[Umbrella clicks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil tries to open the umbrella, and it stays shut.
NIKHIL: Uh.
[Wind gusts, click, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The wizard blows the umbrella out of Nikhil’s hand.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Blowing, wizard chuckles, thunder cracks, rain patters]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil blows at the wizard, who smiles. The storm cloud wizard flies over Nikhil and rains on him.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Wizard chuckles, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Light shines on Nikhil as clouds drift away from the sun and a rainbow forms. He leaps onto the rainbow and rides it, chasing the wide-eyed wizard across the sky.
NIKHIL: Huh? Yes! Whee! Ah! Yay! Rainbow power!
[Upbeat music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the living room, Nikhil smiles.
NIKHIL: Actually, we can break the storm spell with rainbow power.
JAY: Yes! I love rainbows!
NIKHIL: We might need your fairy wings, Jay.
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Yeah!
[Whoosh, jumps boing, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, in the garden, Jay bounces on the patio, wearing his fairy wings and holding his magic wand.
JAY: Rainbow fairy to the rainbow rescue! Da-da-da!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nearby, Nikhil walks between his parents, leading them away from the house.
APPA: Where are we going?
[Appa yawns, Jay giggles]
JAY: Follow the rainbow fairy!
[Jay giggles, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay smiles and bounces ahead of everyone else.
NIKHIL: Don't worry. That's it. Hold my hand.
[Whoosh, Amma yawns]
AMMA: But we need to tidy up the house for—
[Amma yawns]
AMMA: Nana and Jim.
[Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and his parents stop walking.
NIKHIL: Right, rainbow fairies, time to break this storm spell.
JAY: Yeah! Rainbows will appear now!
[Zapping, the music stops, wand rattles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay shakes his wand.
[Upbeat music plays, zapping]
DESCRIPTION: Jay points his wand at the sky.
JAY: Or now! Uh.
DESCRIPTION: Jay shakes his wand.
[Upbeat music plays]
JAY: Now!
[Zapping, the music stops]
JAY: No! The storm wizard must have got rid all the rainbows!
[Descending music notes play, parents yawn and mumble, light music notes play]
APPA: Must tidy the house.
[Appa yawns, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma walk towards the house.
AMMA: Mission—
[Amma yawns]
AMMA: Tidy Up is—
[Amma yawns]
AMMA: Go, go, go.
[Amma yawns, surprised music notes play]
NIKHIL: Hey! That's what I say.
[Appa mumbles, Amma sighs, vacuum rattles, remote taps, parents groan, Appa yawns, slide whistles, boing, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Appa pushes the vacuum, holding the plug in his hand. Amma dusts the window, then puts a remote control on the coffee table. Appa picks up the remote, puts it in a purple Wellington boot, and Nikhil removes it.
NIKHIL: Uh-oh. It's getting worse.
APPA: Ah.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
DESCRIPTION: On the couch, Appa hugs Chickpea and Amma hugs Star.
APPA: Chickpea is the snuggliest…
[Appa mumbles]
APPA: Ever, ever, ever.
[Jay gasps, dramatic music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa lean against each other and close their eyes.
JAY: That's what I say!
[The music stops, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts his hands on his cheeks, and his mouth falls open. He and Jay sway their heads as they gaze at their parents.
NIKHIL: Oh, no! Amma and Appa's so topsy-turvy.
NIKHIL AND JAY: They think they're me and you!
[Thunder booms]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ah!
[Boys scream, footsteps patter, upbeat music plays, squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run into the hallway, sit on the bottom step, and hug.
JAY: No! What if the storm spell really is turning Amma and Appa into us?
[Nikhil gasps]
NIKHIL: Does that mean we are gonna have to be them?
[Nikhil and Jay scream, exciting music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs around the hallway.
JAY: Panic!
NIKHIL: I'm not ready to be Amma and Appa! We'll have to go to work!
[Boing]
JAY: And eat boring cereal!
NIKHIL AND JAY: And drink coffee!
[Thunder booms]
NIKHIL AND JAY: No!
[Slide whistles, boys sigh, Max meows, purrs, boys laugh, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: The boys lie on the floor, and Max walks to them, her eyes spinning. She flops down on her back next to Nikhil, and the boys smile at each other.
NIKHIL: Even when things are topsy-turvy, Max still wants to sleep.
[Jay giggles, Max purrs]
JAY: Sleep is Max's answer for everything.
[Nikhil gasps, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stands.
NIKHIL: What if sleep is the answer? Maybe Amma and Appa just need to nap like Max.
[Whoosh, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands.
JAY: Yes! We could break the spell with sleep!
[Whooshing, gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa lies on the couch with his eyes shut.
APPA: Hmm.
[Amma sighs, creaking]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lies at the other end of the couch with her feet toward Appa. She wiggles her head against the couch arm.
AMMA: My bed turned all squidgy.
[Amma sighs]
JAY: That's it, grown-up babies. Squidgle up.
[Nikhil and Jay giggle, lips smack, hearts chime]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay each kiss Amma and Appa’s foreheads, and pink hearts appear.
JAY: Night, night, topsy-turvy sleepy heads.
[Appa yawns]
APPA: Don't forget my rubber ducky. Splish-splash.
[Appa mumbles, Nikhil gasps, Star squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up Star and Chickpea. He gives Appa Chickpea and Amma Star.
NIKHIL: No rubber ducks, chellams. But Star and Chickpea will snuggle you off to Dreamland.
[Appa gasps, light clicks, chiming, boys gasp]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil turns on a lamp on an end table, and rainbow-coloured light shines through the multicoloured lampshade.
JAY: Rainbow magic!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil nods.
JAY: We found it!
NIKHIL: Yeah! It was in the living room all along.
[Slide whistle, the music stops, door bangs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay nod at each other. Nikhil slides a patio door open.
NIKHIL: Now, the kids are in bed, we've got work to do!
[Upbeat music plays, bang]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil raises his left fist, Jay stands on the ceiling, and Chickpea stands on the ceiling over Star.
NIKHIL: Mission Be Appa and Amma is go, go, go!
[Whooshing, boys sigh]
DESCRIPTION: Later, in the garden, Nikhil and Jay lie on the bench, which is standing upright.
JAY: Being Amma and Appa is hard work.
[Jay sighs]
AMMA: Nikhil! Jay!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay sit up.
NIKHIL AND JAY: They're awake!
[Upbeat music plays, boys giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run down the hallway, and Amma pops out of the living room.
AMMA: Hello, chellams!
[Squeak, Appa yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Amma hugs Nikhil and Jay. Appa stretches behind them.
APPA: I feel great after that power nap.
[Chiming]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Rainbow power!
[Creak, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa smile at each other. Amma sways.
AMMA: We were feeling so topsy-turvy after the storm kept us awake all night.
APPA: Ha-ha! Not anymore, though!
[Doorbell rings, the music stops]
AMMA AND APPA: Oh!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Nana and Jim! Yes!
[Hands slap, ding, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay high-five.
NIKHIL AND JAY: We broke the storm spell!
[Door clicks, the music stops, Nana and Jim yawn and groan]
DESCRIPTION: Amma opens the door, and Jim leans on his right hand on the doorway above Nana’s head.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana and Jim enter the foyer.
NANA: That storm kept us up all night.
[Jim yawns]
JIM: And kept our bus stuck in traffic.
[Jim groans, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other.
NIKHIL AND JAY: BOTH: Uh-oh!
[Dramatic music notes play]
NIKHIL AND JAY: The storm spell strikes again.
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Nana, and she and Nikhil smile.
JAY: It's okay, Nana.
NIKHIL: We know exactly what you need.
[The music stops, whoosh, Amma and Appa chuckle, whooshing, Jim yawns, Nana groans]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana look at Amma and Appa, who smile. Jay’s wand spins. Later, Nana lies on the couch holding Star. Jim stands behind Jay and stretches.
NIKHIL: There you go! One rainbow power nap coming right up.
[Chiming, gentle music plays, click, Nana sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil turns on the lamp, and rainbow-coloured light shines on the couch.
NANA: Oh, yes. That's lovely, pet.
[Nana yawns]
JAY: Ready to be tucked in too, Jim? Huh?
[Jim snores, gentle music continues]
DESCRIPTION: Jay turns, holding out Chickpea, and discovers Jim sleeps with his head on a carrom table.
JAY: Jim! Jim!
[Wobbling, Jim shouts, carrom coins clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Jim startles and falls, tipping the carrom board.
JIM: Ah!
DESCRIPTION: Jim sits on the carrom board.
JIM: Wha? Oh.
[Boys giggle, Max meows, purrs]
DESCRIPTION: Jim curls up on the carrom board. Max jumps onto his side and kneads it.

DESCRIPTION: In his dark bedroom, Jay opens his eyes and sits up. On the top bunk, Nikhil awakens and sits up.
JAY: Yeah! Time to play!
[Jay and Nikhil giggle, thunder booms, clacking]
NIKHIL: Jay, did you hear the big, loud clackity-boom storm last night?
[Wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Jay shakes his head.
JAY: Uh-uh. Is it still out there?
[Jumps boing, boys giggle, curtains scrape, tense music plays, boys gasp, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run to their window and open the curtains. Outside, in the garden, an overturned flower pot and bench lie on the grass surrounded by scattered leaves.
JAY: Whoa! The garden is all topsy-turvy!
[Thunder booms, dramatic music notes play, wobbling, Max meows, whimpers]
DESCRIPTION: Max walks across the grass with her eyes spinning.
NIKHIL: And Max, too!
[Boys gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Amma! Amma! Amma!
[Amma groans, yawns, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Amma holds a teacup and rubs her left eye with her other hand. Beside her, Appa holds a teaspoon and a toothbrush.
APPA: So tired.
[Parents yawn, slide whistle, whooshing, Max grumbles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma takes the toothbrush from Appa’s hand and uses it to stir her tea. On the dining room table, Max lies in a magician’s top hat, smiling.
APPA: Oh, feeling tired, too, Max?
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stop in the dining room doorway and look at Max.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
[Max meows, descending music notes play]
JAY: Max! Cats don't sleep in a hat!
[Amma yawns, clinking, descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Max shuts her eyes. Behind the kitchen counter, Amma rests her head on her right hand and stirs her tea with a toothbrush.
NIKHIL: Amma, why are you using a toothbrush in your tea?
AMMA: Huh? Oops!
[Amma sighs, the music stops, tap]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Amma a teaspoon.
AMMA: Thank you, chellam.
[Appa yawns, footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Appa walks past everyone carrying a plant.
APPA: Morning, boys.
[Fridge door clicks]
DESCRIPTION: Appa opens the fridge and reaches to put the plant on a shelf.
[Descending music notes play]
JAY: Appa, why are you putting a plant in the fridge?
DESCRIPTION: Appa stops.
APPA: Huh?
[Appa chuckles]
APPA: Oh, yeah!
[Appa chuckles, fridge door clicks shut, upbeat music plays]
APPA: I thought it was the milk.
NIKHIL: Huh?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil scratches his head.
JAY: Eh? What's happening?
[Slide whistle, thunder booms]
NIKHIL: I think the clackity-boom storm made everything topsy-turvy!
[The music stops, slide whistles]
JAY: Oh! Like the garden. And Max and now Amma and Appa! Hmm.
[Thunder booms, lively music plays, wizard cackles, magic chimes, slide whistle, worm coos, magic chimes, slide whistles, wizard cackles, bounce boings]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, a grey storm cloud wearing a wizard hat and carrying a magic wand flies down to the garden and casts a spell on a worm. The worm turns upside down over the grass. The wizard casts a spell on Chickpea and Star, and they flip upside down. The wizard casts another spell, and the house turns upside down.
WIZARD: Topsy-turvy! Toot! Toot! Toot!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The wizard flips upside down.
WIZARD: It's all topsy-turvy!
[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the dining room, Jay smiles with big, shiny eyes. He bounces around the room, and Nikhil watches, smiling.
JAY: Bing! Ping! Boom! Toot! There was a storm wizard!
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Eh?
[Thunder booms, ding]
JAY: Amma and Appa are under the powerful storm spell.
NIKHIL: Yes! We need to break the spell. But with what?
[Upbeat music notes play, chiming]
JAY: I know! With magic!
[Jay giggles]
NIKHIL: Great idea, Jay.
[Whooshing, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Appa holds the plant as Jay bounces around him and Amma.
JAY: Tenta! Munta! Gee! Boom! Ba!
[Phone rings]
AMMA AND APPA: Oh!
[Phone rings, slide whistle, parents yawn]
DESCRIPTION: Amma uses a teacup as a phone, and Appa uses a banana.
AMMA AND APPA: Hello?
[Hands slap, descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay put their left hands against their faces.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Hmm.
[Phone rings, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay shows Nikhil the phone, and Nikhil nods. Appa looks at the banana as Jay offers him the phone.
APPA: Oh.
[Appa chuckles, beep, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa answers the phone.
APPA: Hello?
DESCRIPTION: Appa covers the phone and turns to the boys.
APPA: Oh! It's Nana and Jim.
JAY: Yay!
NIKHIL: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Appa speaks into the phone.
APPA: Oh, dear, those too.
[Appa yawns, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other.
APPA: All right. Yeah. We'll see you when we see you.
[Beep]
DESCRIPTION: Appa ends the call and looks at the boys.
APPA: Storm problems. I think they're gonna be late.
[Appa yawns, Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Appa puts the phone in a fruit basket on the counter.
JAY: Oh dear.
NIKHIL: I've never seen them so topsy-turvy!
[Jay gasps]
JAY: I have an idea!
[Whoosh, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay move a large cardboard box into the living room.
JAY: Every magician has a box! Think about it! Rabbits pop out of...
NIKHIL: Hats?
[Creaking, squeak, chiming]
JAY: No! Boxes! And Santa always puts presents in—
NIKHIL: Stockings?
[Creaking, squeak, chiming, tap]
DESCRIPTION: Jay taps the edge of the box.
JAY: Well, yes. But also boxes. We just need to get Amma and Appa into this magical box. Then poof!
[Jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps.
JAY: The storm spell will disappear.
[Whooshing, parents grunt, rustling, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay guide their parents into the box.
NIKHIL: That's it. Just climb into the big box right there, please.
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
APPA: Okay.
[Rustling, wink dings, Nikhil giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa sit in the box, and Nikhil and Jay wink at each other.
[Lively music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces around the room, holding his magic wand.
JAY: Jenta! Madda! Gee-boom-ba! Make the storm spell disappear!
AMMA AND APPA: Huh?
[Parent grunt, rustling, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa squirm in the box, and it breaks.
JAY: Whoa! My storm spell was too powerful! It broke the box!
NIKHIL: But has it broken the storm spell?
[Parents groan, mumble, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa crawl away from the broken box. Jay tugs on Nikhil’s sleeve.
JAY: Uh. No! It's getting worse! They're crawling around like babies!
NIKHIL: Hmm. How can we break the storm spell?
[Cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil and the storm wizard stand on discs floating in the sky. Nikhil holds an umbrella and the wizard holds their wand.
NIKHIL: Haha!
[Umbrella clicks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil tries to open the umbrella, and it stays shut.
NIKHIL: Uh.
[Wind gusts, click, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The wizard blows the umbrella out of Nikhil’s hand.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Blowing, wizard chuckles, thunder cracks, rain patters]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil blows at the wizard, who smiles. The storm cloud wizard flies over Nikhil and rains on him.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Wizard chuckles, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Light shines on Nikhil as clouds drift away from the sun and a rainbow forms. He leaps onto the rainbow and rides it, chasing the wide-eyed wizard across the sky.
NIKHIL: Huh? Yes! Whee! Ah! Yay! Rainbow power!
[Upbeat music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends. In the living room, Nikhil smiles.
NIKHIL: Actually, we can break the storm spell with rainbow power.
JAY: Yes! I love rainbows!
NIKHIL: We might need your fairy wings, Jay.
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Yeah!
[Whoosh, jumps boing, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, in the garden, Jay bounces on the patio, wearing his fairy wings and holding his magic wand.
JAY: Rainbow fairy to the rainbow rescue! Da-da-da!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nearby, Nikhil walks between his parents, leading them away from the house.
APPA: Where are we going?
[Appa yawns, Jay giggles]
JAY: Follow the rainbow fairy!
[Jay giggles, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay smiles and bounces ahead of everyone else.
NIKHIL: Don't worry. That's it. Hold my hand.
[Whoosh, Amma yawns]
AMMA: But we need to tidy up the house for—
[Amma yawns]
AMMA: Nana and Jim.
[Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and his parents stop walking.
NIKHIL: Right, rainbow fairies, time to break this storm spell.
JAY: Yeah! Rainbows will appear now!
[Zapping, the music stops, wand rattles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay shakes his wand.
[Upbeat music plays, zapping]
DESCRIPTION: Jay points his wand at the sky.
JAY: Or now! Uh.
DESCRIPTION: Jay shakes his wand.
[Upbeat music plays]
JAY: Now!
[Zapping, the music stops]
JAY: No! The storm wizard must have got rid all the rainbows!
[Descending music notes play, parents yawn and mumble, light music notes play]
APPA: Must tidy the house.
[Appa yawns, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma walk towards the house.
AMMA: Mission—
[Amma yawns]
AMMA: Tidy Up is—
[Amma yawns]
AMMA: Go, go, go.
[Amma yawns, surprised music notes play]
NIKHIL: Hey! That's what I say.
[Appa mumbles, Amma sighs, vacuum rattles, remote taps, parents groan, Appa yawns, slide whistles, boing, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Appa pushes the vacuum, holding the plug in his hand. Amma dusts the window, then puts a remote control on the coffee table. Appa picks up the remote, puts it in a purple Wellington boot, and Nikhil removes it.
NIKHIL: Uh-oh. It's getting worse.
APPA: Ah.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh?
DESCRIPTION: On the couch, Appa hugs Chickpea and Amma hugs Star.
APPA: Chickpea is the snuggliest…
[Appa mumbles]
APPA: Ever, ever, ever.
[Jay gasps, dramatic music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa lean against each other and close their eyes.
JAY: That's what I say!
[The music stops, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts his hands on his cheeks, and his mouth falls open. He and Jay sway their heads as they gaze at their parents.
NIKHIL: Oh, no! Amma and Appa's so topsy-turvy.
NIKHIL AND JAY: They think they're me and you!
[Thunder booms]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Ah!
[Boys scream, footsteps patter, upbeat music plays, squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run into the hallway, sit on the bottom step, and hug.
JAY: No! What if the storm spell really is turning Amma and Appa into us?
[Nikhil gasps]
NIKHIL: Does that mean we are gonna have to be them?
[Nikhil and Jay scream, exciting music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay runs around the hallway.
JAY: Panic!
NIKHIL: I'm not ready to be Amma and Appa! We'll have to go to work!
[Boing]
JAY: And eat boring cereal!
NIKHIL AND JAY: And drink coffee!
[Thunder booms]
NIKHIL AND JAY: No!
[Slide whistles, boys sigh, Max meows, purrs, boys laugh, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: The boys lie on the floor, and Max walks to them, her eyes spinning. She flops down on her back next to Nikhil, and the boys smile at each other.
NIKHIL: Even when things are topsy-turvy, Max still wants to sleep.
[Jay giggles, Max purrs]
JAY: Sleep is Max's answer for everything.
[Nikhil gasps, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stands.
NIKHIL: What if sleep is the answer? Maybe Amma and Appa just need to nap like Max.
[Whoosh, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands.
JAY: Yes! We could break the spell with sleep!
[Whooshing, gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa lies on the couch with his eyes shut.
APPA: Hmm.
[Amma sighs, creaking]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lies at the other end of the couch with her feet toward Appa. She wiggles her head against the couch arm.
AMMA: My bed turned all squidgy.
[Amma sighs]
JAY: That's it, grown-up babies. Squidgle up.
[Nikhil and Jay giggle, lips smack, hearts chime]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay each kiss Amma and Appa’s foreheads, and pink hearts appear.
JAY: Night, night, topsy-turvy sleepy heads.
[Appa yawns]
APPA: Don't forget my rubber ducky. Splish-splash.
[Appa mumbles, Nikhil gasps, Star squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up Star and Chickpea. He gives Appa Chickpea and Amma Star.
NIKHIL: No rubber ducks, chellams. But Star and Chickpea will snuggle you off to Dreamland.
[Appa gasps, light clicks, chiming, boys gasp]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil turns on a lamp on an end table, and rainbow-coloured light shines through the multicoloured lampshade.
JAY: Rainbow magic!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil nods.
JAY: We found it!
NIKHIL: Yeah! It was in the living room all along.
[Slide whistle, the music stops, door bangs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay nod at each other. Nikhil slides a patio door open.
NIKHIL: Now, the kids are in bed, we've got work to do!
[Upbeat music plays, bang]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil raises his left fist, Jay stands on the ceiling, and Chickpea stands on the ceiling over Star.
NIKHIL: Mission Be Appa and Amma is go, go, go!
[Whooshing, boys sigh]
DESCRIPTION: Later, in the garden, Nikhil and Jay lie on the bench, which is standing upright.
JAY: Being Amma and Appa is hard work.
[Jay sighs]
AMMA: Nikhil! Jay!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay sit up.
NIKHIL AND JAY: They're awake!
[Upbeat music plays, boys giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run down the hallway, and Amma pops out of the living room.
AMMA: Hello, chellams!
[Squeak, Appa yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Amma hugs Nikhil and Jay. Appa stretches behind them.
APPA: I feel great after that power nap.
[Chiming]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Rainbow power!
[Creak, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa smile at each other. Amma sways.
AMMA: We were feeling so topsy-turvy after the storm kept us awake all night.
APPA: Ha-ha! Not anymore, though!
[Doorbell rings, the music stops]
AMMA AND APPA: Oh!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Nana and Jim! Yes!
[Hands slap, ding, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay high-five.
NIKHIL AND JAY: We broke the storm spell!
[Door clicks, the music stops, Nana and Jim yawn and groan]
DESCRIPTION: Amma opens the door, and Jim leans on his right hand on the doorway above Nana’s head.
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana and Jim enter the foyer.
NANA: That storm kept us up all night.
[Jim yawns]
JIM: And kept our bus stuck in traffic.
[Jim groans, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other.
NIKHIL AND JAY: BOTH: Uh-oh!
[Dramatic music notes play]
NIKHIL AND JAY: The storm spell strikes again.
[Squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Nana, and she and Nikhil smile.
JAY: It's okay, Nana.
NIKHIL: We know exactly what you need.
[The music stops, whoosh, Amma and Appa chuckle, whooshing, Jim yawns, Nana groans]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana look at Amma and Appa, who smile. Jay’s wand spins. Later, Nana lies on the couch holding Star. Jim stands behind Jay and stretches.
NIKHIL: There you go! One rainbow power nap coming right up.
[Chiming, gentle music plays, click, Nana sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil turns on the lamp, and rainbow-coloured light shines on the couch.
NANA: Oh, yes. That's lovely, pet.
[Nana yawns]
JAY: Ready to be tucked in too, Jim? Huh?
[Jim snores, gentle music continues]
DESCRIPTION: Jay turns, holding out Chickpea, and discovers Jim sleeps with his head on a carrom table.
JAY: Jim! Jim!
[Wobbling, Jim shouts, carrom coins clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Jim startles and falls, tipping the carrom board.
JIM: Ah!
DESCRIPTION: Jim sits on the carrom board.
JIM: Wha? Oh.
[Boys giggle, Max meows, purrs]
DESCRIPTION: Jim curls up on the carrom board. Max jumps onto his side and kneads it.
[Upbeat music plays]
