DESCRIPTION: On an indoor basketball court, T.V.O. Kids host Gabrielle stands beside Coach Ann-Merrie. Gabrielle has short brown hair and wears a purple T.V.O. Kids t-shirt. She holds a soccer ball in her right hand. Coach Ann-Merrie has long brown hair and wears a blue jacket with white stripes on the sleeves over a black shirt.

GABRIELLE: I'm on the field with Coach Ann-Merrie, and we're talking about the World Cup coming to Toronto. And today, we're gonna talk about how soccer works in 60 seconds, starting with the basics. Coach, can you tell us how to play soccer?

DESCRIPTION: A timer counts down from one minute.

COACH ANN-MERRIE: So, soccer's a team game where the goal is to move the ball down the field and score by kicking it into the other team's net…

DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle nods.

COACH ANN-MERRIE: And stop the other team from doing the same to you.

GABRIELLE: Okay, I see, I see. And the big rule is hands off the ball, right?

COACH ANN-MERRIE: Exactly. So, except for the goalie, no one else is allowed to use their hands.

[Hands clap]

DESCRIPTION: Coach Ann-Merrie claps.

COACH ANN-MERRIE: So, you can use your feet, your legs, your body, even your head.

DESCRIPTION: Gabrielle smiles and touches her head.

COACH ANN-MERRIE: And that's why in the other parts of the world, they call it "football" because we use our feet to defeat our opponents.

GABRIELLE: Oh, that's a good pun, that's a good pun! And teamwork is a huge part of soccer, right?

COACH ANN-MERRIE: Exactly. So, except for the goalie, no one else is allowed to use their It really is. So, passing, talking to your teammates, helping each other out, that' 's how you succeed.

GABRIELLE: Oh, I like that. And now, what equipment do you need to play?

COACH ANN-MERRIE: So, you don't need anything fancy. All you need is a ball, some space, everybody ready to have fun, and something to mark a net or some kind of goal.

GABRIELLE: Okay, okay, that sounds really easy. Well, there you go, T.V.O. Kids.

[Background shouts, chatter]
