NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil.
JAY: And I'm Jay!
[Map rustles, boings, plane whooshes, Appa shouts, Amma laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map showing a small boat in the water off the coast of South India. Amma’s face appears. She has chin-length brown hair with a yellow bow. A plane flies to England, and Appa’s face appears. He has short brown hair and a beard. A heart-shaped outline surrounds them. Amma dances, and Appa holds a cat-shaped mug.
[Song] Here's a little story about where our family's from. It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa. She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa. Oh. And then we came along. Oh. And this is our song.

DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces with his arms in the air.
JAY: Being loud!
[Chimes, coins rattle, rocket ship whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: They high-five and daydream about riding coins on a carrom board. In outer space, they peer through the window of a rocket ship.
[Song] We both love to dream. We can shoot a carrom pocket. Yeah, or blast off in a rocket. We make the greatest team.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump.
[Needle scratches a record, slide whistle]
NIKHIL: Wait.
JAY: What?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold a picture of their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has short black hair and wears a yellow shirt and a blue saree. Thatha has short white hair and wears a yellow jacket, a white shirt, and eyeglasses on a chain around his neck.
NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha.
[Jim and Nana exclaim]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana stand behind Nikhil and Jay. Jim has short brown hair and holds a tray of food. He wears a green shirt and brown pants. Nana holds her lollipop traffic sign turned red.

DESCRIPTION: Appa throws the onion from his left hand to his right, then puts it on a pile of vegetables on a counter in front of him. He reaches into a box and takes out a zucchini.
APPA: And you're for the sculpture pile.
[Side whistle, rattle, Max meows, lively theme song plays]
DESCRIPTION: Max hides behind the sculpture pile of vegetables, then chases a rolling Brussels sprout. Nikhil and Jay stand at the dining room table, watching Mr. Awan on a tablet screen.
APPA: Oh?
NIKHIL AND JAY SING: Ah, ah, ah, Awan about town.
[Upbeat music plays, whooshing, cheering]
DESCRIPTION: On the tablet screen, Mr. Awan stands in front of the allotment shed with a progress bar at the bottom of his video. He holds a salamander made from cucumbers and carrots, and a cat made from an eggplant and a potato. He holds a giraffe with a potato body, carrot legs, and a cucumber neck.
MR. AWAN: Yo! Yo! Yo! This is it, people. Today's the day. The annual Spuds and Spades Allotment Fruit and Veggie Sculpture Show! So, get putting those fruit and vegetables together. I want to see your best animal sculptures. Sculpt to impress. I want to be like, "Wow! Is that a carrot or is it a giraffe?"
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other with big, shiny eyes.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Wow!
MR. AWAN: Oh! And don't forget! The winner will get to be on my channel!
[Chiming, cheering, slide whistle, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In the video, Mr. Awan smiles and his teeth gleam. The video ends and, in the kitchen, Appa leans towards Nikhil and Jay.
APPA: That'd be why Nana's entering.
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
APPA: She'll do anything to get on Mr. Awan's channel.
[Footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Appa leaves, and Jay looks at Nikhil.
JAY: We need to make our animal sculptures now!
[Nikhil gasps, upbeat music plays, footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil follows Jay to the pile of sculpture vegetables on the end of the dining room table.
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up a potato.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up a carrot.
JAY: Ooh!
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up a Brussels sprout.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up a zucchini.
JAY: Hmm.
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Appa holds a papaya in his left hand.
APPA SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! To the sambal, sambal, sambal pile with you.
JAY: Wow!
[Chiming, awed music plays, birds chirp]
DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at the sparkling papaya with huge, shiny eyes.
JAY: Appa!
[Boing, Appa exclaims, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jay pops up behind Appa in the kitchen.
JAY: What is that?
APPA: This, Jay, fresh from the allotment, is my superstar papaya.
[Triumphant music notes play, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Appa tosses the papaya from his left hand to his right.
APPA: I grew it especially for Amma's favourite papaya sambal. It took a lot of work, that did.
JAY: A papa-paya? Whoa!
[Thump, popping, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa holds the papaya out to Jay, then bounces it on his hand. Green hearts surround Jay, and he takes the papaya. He holds it up and the papaya sparkles.
JAY: I love it! So green!
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs the papaya.
JAY: Can I have it, Appa? Please! I'll look after it forever, ever, ever!
[Upbeat music plays, chiming]
APPA: Hmm. I will need it for dinner.
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs the papaya and looks at Appa with large, shiny eyes.
APPA: But. I suppose you could look after it before it goes in the—
DESCRIPTION: Appa moves his arms as he dances.
APPA SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
JAY: Yes!
[The music stops, Appa exclaims, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa watches as Jay makes the papaya dance.
JAY SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[The music stops, Appa and Jay laugh, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa dances in the kitchen while Nikhil and Jay dance, with the papaya on the dining room table.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil holds a potato by the pile of sculpture vegetables.
NIKHIL: Appa, have you ever entered a fruit-and-veggie sculpture competition?
APPA: Have I? Wait here.
[Beep]
DESCRIPTION: Appa runs out of the kitchen. By the vegetable pile, Nikhil looks at the potato, then picks up a carrot.
NIKHIL: Hmm. What animals can we make?
[Rustling, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil tosses the potato up and vegetables fall from the ceiling. In a daydream, vegetables float around Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Ooh.
[Popping]
DESCRIPTION: Lettuce leaves attach to a carrot, creating a carrot butterfly.
CARROT BUTTERFLY: Hmm.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Carrot butterfly giggles, popping, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The carrot butterfly flutters past Nikhil. A potato lion with a carrot mane and cucumber legs lands in front of Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Wow!
[Lion roars, thud, Nikhil gasps, lion roars]
DESCRIPTION: A cucumber snake falls behind Nikhil, and the snake chases them.
NIKHIL: Ah-ha!
[Chiming, vegetables rustle, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Vegetables fall, and the daydream ends. In the dining room, Nikhil smiles.
NIKHIL: Actually, I'm gonna make a big, scary lion! Roar!
[Mellow music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs to Jay.
NIKHIL: You can make a snake, Jay!
JAY: Yeah!
[Jay hisses, Jay screams, Nikhil roars]
DESCRIPTION: Jay waves his arms, and Nikhil chases him.
[Triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa arrives carrying a golden trophy.
APPA: Ta-da!
[Jay gasps, Nikhil exclaims]
DESCRIPTION: Appa puts his trophy on the table.
APPA: My eleventh-place trophy from the Spuds and Spades Allotment Veggie Show, 1990... never mind.
[Max meows, light music notes play, Jay gasps, tense music plays]
DESCRIPTION: At the other end of the table, Max holds her paw over the papaya. Jay runs over, and Max runs away.
JAY: Stop right now, Max! Nobody touches my superstar papa-paya.
APPA: Ha! If there was a trophy for being the best papaya security guard, it would have your name on it.
[Nikhil giggles, drum roll plays, energetic music plays]
JAY: Hmm.
[Audience cheers, camera shutters snap, papaya vocalizes]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay imagines wearing sunglasses and an earpiece as he stands at the side of a stage. In front of the stage, a silhouetted audience waves their arms and camera lights flash. The papaya has a moustache and goatee and bounces onto the stage wearing sunglasses.
ANNOUNCER: Let's hear it for the greenest of them all! The superstar papaya!
[Camera shutters snap, Max meows, sniffing, energetic music continues]
DESCRIPTION: The papaya dances and bounces on the stage. Jay steps in front of it, spreading his arms. The daydream ends and, in the dining room, Max looks at the papaya and sniffs it.
JAY: Make way, please!
[Max yowls]
DESCRIPTION: Max jumps off the table.
JAY: Stand back!
[Sniffing, Max meows, squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Max sniffs a Brussels sprout on the floor, and Jay pats the papaya on the table.
JAY: You're safe with me, papa-paya.
[The music stops, wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil walks to Jay and waves his arms.
NIKHIL: You've got a snake to make, Jay. Hiss!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at the papaya.
JAY: Oh! I won't be far away.
[Popping]
DESCRIPTION: At the table, Appa sits across from Jay and Nikhil. He holds carrots and a potato.
APPA: Ah-ha!
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Appa shows Nikhil the vegetables.
NIKHIL: Ooh!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil takes the potato and the carrots.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Popping, whooshing, Max meows, whooshing, whooshing, chime]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil places the carrot tips around the potato, like a mane, then spins the potato. On the floor, Max plays with the Brussels sprout. Jay picks up zucchinis and connects pieces, creating a snake. Nikhil and Jay fist bump.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yes!
[The music stops, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Appa looks at the vegetable sculptures.
APPA: Well, this is the best courgette snake and potato, carrot lion I've ever seen. And I've seen a few.
[Nikhil and Jay giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim appears in the dining room doorway.
JIM: Ah! My favourite veggie artists!
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Jim!
[Jim chuckles, upbeat music plays, squeaking]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run to Jim and hug him. Appa waves.
APPA: Hello, Jimbo!
JIM: Hello!
[Upbeat music plays]
APPA: Right, you lot, I've got a sambal to cook. Now, where's my apron?
DESCRIPTION: Jim crouches beside the table and looks at the lion and the snake.
JIM: Oh! These remind me of my veggie sculpture days. One of my pieces was in an art gallery.
[Jay and Nikhil gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Really?
JAY: Whoa!
JIM: Three sprouts and a line of carrots on me plate in the Gallery Cafe
[Jim chuckles, ding, drum stinger plays, Nikhil and Jay giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim winks.
JIM: Wowzers, trousers. That's a very scary lion. Roar!
[Nikhil and Jay scream, Jim roars, Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Jim chases Nikhil and Jay around the dining room table.
NIKHIL: Jim!
[Boys giggle, Jim roars, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jim chases Nikhil and Jay around the dining room table. Jim stops by the lion and the snake, and Jay and Nikhil duck behind the table.
JIM: Oh, you're right. I need to get going and get this leftover veg to Nana at the allotment.
[Jim sighs, the music stops, creak]
DESCRIPTION: Jim looks under the table at Nikhil and Jay. The Brussels sprout rolls behind the boys.
JIM: Are you boys coming?
NIKHIL: Not yet. We're gonna ride our bikes there in a bit.
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs and stops behind the boys. She wiggles her bottom, then chases the Brussels sprout.
NIKHIL: Appa's making sambal first.
[Upbeat music plays, box rustles, sculptures thump, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jim takes the box off the counter and packs the lion and snake sculptures. He packs the spare sculpture vegetables and the papaya in the box.
JIM: Righto! I'll take your sculptures with me now then. I've got plenty of room. Here we go. There we are.
[Max meows, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim reaches for the Brussels sprout on the floor, and Nikhil pops up, startling him.
NIKHIL: Roar! Thanks, Jim!
[Jay hisses, wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands, waving his arms.
JAY: That's snake for bye!
JIM: Oh!
[Everyone giggles, box rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay waves and Jim picks up the box.
APPA: I'll see you down at the allotment in a bit.
DESCRIPTION: Appa waves and Jim leaves, carrying the box.
JIM: Cheerio then.
APPA: Right, you two. It's sambal time!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa, Jay, and Nikhil dance.

JAY: Huh? I didn't hide it anywhere.
[Footsteps patter, Jay gasps, drumming, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his arms and looks at the ceiling.
JAY: Where has it gone?
NIKHIL: Jim must have mixed it up with the veggies and taken it to the allotment.
[Sad music plays, Jay sniffles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay’s eyes fill with tears.
JAY: No! My superstar papa-paya!
NIKHIL: Oh.
[Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts his right arm around Jay’s shoulders.
NIKHIL: Come on! If we cycle down now, we can get there in time to find your papaya. Come on, Jay!
DESCRIPTION: In a split screen, Nikhil raises his left fist, Jay stands on the ceiling and smiles, and Appa smiles.
NIKHIL: Let's go, go, go!
APPA: Uh, hmm.
[Upbeat music notes play, bird chirps, jumps boing, crowd chatters, lid clatters, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: In the allotment, a bird flies over a greenhouse as Jay arrives. Jay looks beneath a plant and inside a composter.
JAY: Papa-paya? Papa-paya!
MR. AWAN: Yo! Yo! Yo! This is it, people!
[Appa pants]
DESCRIPTION: Appa arrives.
APPA: The veggie show. It's about to start!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Wow!

DESCRIPTION: In front of the shed, Mr. Awan films his video. He looks at the vegetable sculptures, including a rabbit, a lion, two snakes, a frog, a gorilla, a peacock, an elephant, and a porcupine.
MR. AWAN: The wait is over, animal sculptors. The winner of the annual Spuds and Spades Allotment Fruit and Veggie Sculpture Show is about to be revealed. I ooh-ed and aw-ed and mmm-ed and uh-ed about this. But there could be only one winner, and the winner is…
DESCRIPTION: Mr. Awan picks up the gorilla.
[Nana exclaims]
MR. AWAN: This fabulous green gorilla made by Nana!
[Crowd cheers, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nana pops up in front of Mr. Awan.
NANA: Hey! Oh! What a smashing surprise! I can't believe Gary the Gorilla won!
[Whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. Awan points at the gorilla sculpture.
NANA: Cooey, fans! Hello!
[Camera clunks, ding]
DESCRIPTION: Nana moves closer to the camera and winks.
[Soft music plays]
JAY: Is that my papa-paya?
NIKHIL: Yay! We found it.
JAY: But, but, but now it's a Gary.
[The music stops]
NANA: Did you see that? I won!
[Jay and Nikhil chuckle awkwardly]
NANA: Oh, silly me, bagging on about myself when you both wanted to win.
APPA: It's not that, Mum, it's, well—
NIKHIL: Gary was Jay's superstar papaya!
DESCRIPTION: Jay smiles and nods.
JIM: Oh, no! I'm sorry. That's my fault. I thought it was part of the leftover veg. I'm so sorry, Jay.
NANA: What are ya like, Jim? Surely, you should have spotted his star quality.
[Jim chuckles, chiming, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana shakes the Gary the gorilla, then kneels in front of Jay and gives him the gorilla.
NANA: Here you go, Jay. You take Gary back where he belongs.
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Are you sure?
[Wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Nana lifts her arms and shakes them.
NANA: Of course. I'm just happy I got to be on Mr. Awan's channel.
[Nana cheers, everyone chuckles, upbeat music plays, squeak, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Gary, the gorilla papaya sculpture. Stars appear in his eyes and over his head.
JAY: I'm never gonna let you out of my sight! Superstar Papa-aya Gary!
DESCRIPTION: Appa wipes his brow.
APPA: Phew! Now, we can make Amma's favourite sambal.
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Nikhil follow Jay across the allotment.
APPA AND NIKHIL SING: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[Whooshing, tap squeaks, water flows]
DESCRIPTION: At home in the kitchen, Appa washes the lion and snake sculptures. He turns the faucet off and puts the sculptures on the counter. Appa dances, raising his hands in the air.
APPA SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Appa looks at the counter.
APPA: Uh?
[Slide whistle, soft music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa turns and looks at Jay, who holds Gary the gorilla. Appa kneels on the floor in front of him.
APPA: Ah, Jay. Um, I'm gonna need the papaya now, buddy.
JAY: Hmm. But I don't want to lose Gary again.
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Gary.
APPA: But the papaya, I mean Gary, was grown to make a delicious meal.
JAY: Not to be a superstar?
APPA: Well, it's still gonna be the superstar of our special sambal, Jay.
[Jay sighs, majestic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Gary to Appa.
JAY: Okay. Bye-bye, Gary. I'll never forget you.
[Whooshing, slurp, munching]
DESCRIPTION: Later, at the dining room table, Jay eats sambal and rubs his tummy.
JAY: Mmm!
[Jay sighs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa sit across from Jay and Nikhil at the table.
AMMA: Mmm.
[Slurping]
DESCRIPTION: Amma eats her sambal.
AMMA: Best sambal ever! Must have been the homegrown papaya.
JAY: Yep! Because it was a superstar gorilla called Gary!
AMMA: Huh?
[Everyone laughs, Max meows, slide whistle, coins clatter, Max yowls, everyone gasps, Max purrs, everyone laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nearby, Max looks at a Brussels sprout on a carrom coin, then pounces and knocks the carrom coins off a carrom board. Everyone peers into the living room where Max lies on her back on the carrom board, playing with the Brussels sprout.

DESCRIPTION: Appa throws the onion from his left hand to his right, then puts it on a pile of vegetables on a counter in front of him. He reaches into a box and takes out a zucchini.
APPA: And you're for the sculpture pile.
[Side whistle, rattle, Max meows, lively theme song plays]
DESCRIPTION: Max hides behind the sculpture pile of vegetables, then chases a rolling Brussels sprout. Nikhil and Jay stand at the dining room table, watching Mr. Awan on a tablet screen.
APPA: Oh?
NIKHIL AND JAY SING: Ah, ah, ah, Awan about town.
[Upbeat music plays, whooshing, cheering]
DESCRIPTION: On the tablet screen, Mr. Awan stands in front of the allotment shed with a progress bar at the bottom of his video. He holds a salamander made from cucumbers and carrots, and a cat made from an eggplant and a potato. He holds a giraffe with a potato body, carrot legs, and a cucumber neck.
MR. AWAN: Yo! Yo! Yo! This is it, people. Today's the day. The annual Spuds and Spades Allotment Fruit and Veggie Sculpture Show! So, get putting those fruit and vegetables together. I want to see your best animal sculptures. Sculpt to impress. I want to be like, "Wow! Is that a carrot or is it a giraffe?"
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other with big, shiny eyes.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Wow!
MR. AWAN: Oh! And don't forget! The winner will get to be on my channel!
[Chiming, cheering, slide whistle, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In the video, Mr. Awan smiles and his teeth gleam. The video ends and, in the kitchen, Appa leans towards Nikhil and Jay.
APPA: That'd be why Nana's entering.
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
APPA: She'll do anything to get on Mr. Awan's channel.
[Footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Appa leaves, and Jay looks at Nikhil.
JAY: We need to make our animal sculptures now!
[Nikhil gasps, upbeat music plays, footsteps patter]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil follows Jay to the pile of sculpture vegetables on the end of the dining room table.
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up a potato.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up a carrot.
JAY: Ooh!
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil picks up a Brussels sprout.
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Pop]
DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up a zucchini.
JAY: Hmm.
DESCRIPTION: In the kitchen, Appa holds a papaya in his left hand.
APPA SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! To the sambal, sambal, sambal pile with you.
JAY: Wow!
[Chiming, awed music plays, birds chirp]
DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at the sparkling papaya with huge, shiny eyes.
JAY: Appa!
[Boing, Appa exclaims, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jay pops up behind Appa in the kitchen.
JAY: What is that?
APPA: This, Jay, fresh from the allotment, is my superstar papaya.
[Triumphant music notes play, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Appa tosses the papaya from his left hand to his right.
APPA: I grew it especially for Amma's favourite papaya sambal. It took a lot of work, that did.
JAY: A papa-paya? Whoa!
[Thump, popping, light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa holds the papaya out to Jay, then bounces it on his hand. Green hearts surround Jay, and he takes the papaya. He holds it up and the papaya sparkles.
JAY: I love it! So green!
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs the papaya.
JAY: Can I have it, Appa? Please! I'll look after it forever, ever, ever!
[Upbeat music plays, chiming]
APPA: Hmm. I will need it for dinner.
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs the papaya and looks at Appa with large, shiny eyes.
APPA: But. I suppose you could look after it before it goes in the—
DESCRIPTION: Appa moves his arms as he dances.
APPA SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
JAY: Yes!
[The music stops, Appa exclaims, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa watches as Jay makes the papaya dance.
JAY SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[The music stops, Appa and Jay laugh, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa dances in the kitchen while Nikhil and Jay dance, with the papaya on the dining room table.
JAY, APPA, AND NIKHIL: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil holds a potato by the pile of sculpture vegetables.
NIKHIL: Appa, have you ever entered a fruit-and-veggie sculpture competition?
APPA: Have I? Wait here.
[Beep]
DESCRIPTION: Appa runs out of the kitchen. By the vegetable pile, Nikhil looks at the potato, then picks up a carrot.
NIKHIL: Hmm. What animals can we make?
[Rustling, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil tosses the potato up and vegetables fall from the ceiling. In a daydream, vegetables float around Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Ooh.
[Popping]
DESCRIPTION: Lettuce leaves attach to a carrot, creating a carrot butterfly.
CARROT BUTTERFLY: Hmm.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Carrot butterfly giggles, popping, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: The carrot butterfly flutters past Nikhil. A potato lion with a carrot mane and cucumber legs lands in front of Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Wow!
[Lion roars, thud, Nikhil gasps, lion roars]
DESCRIPTION: A cucumber snake falls behind Nikhil, and the snake chases them.
NIKHIL: Ah-ha!
[Chiming, vegetables rustle, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Vegetables fall, and the daydream ends. In the dining room, Nikhil smiles.
NIKHIL: Actually, I'm gonna make a big, scary lion! Roar!
[Mellow music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs to Jay.
NIKHIL: You can make a snake, Jay!
JAY: Yeah!
[Jay hisses, Jay screams, Nikhil roars]
DESCRIPTION: Jay waves his arms, and Nikhil chases him.
[Triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa arrives carrying a golden trophy.
APPA: Ta-da!
[Jay gasps, Nikhil exclaims]
DESCRIPTION: Appa puts his trophy on the table.
APPA: My eleventh-place trophy from the Spuds and Spades Allotment Veggie Show, 1990... never mind.
[Max meows, light music notes play, Jay gasps, tense music plays]
DESCRIPTION: At the other end of the table, Max holds her paw over the papaya. Jay runs over, and Max runs away.
JAY: Stop right now, Max! Nobody touches my superstar papa-paya.
APPA: Ha! If there was a trophy for being the best papaya security guard, it would have your name on it.
[Nikhil giggles, drum roll plays, energetic music plays]
JAY: Hmm.
[Audience cheers, camera shutters snap, papaya vocalizes]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay imagines wearing sunglasses and an earpiece as he stands at the side of a stage. In front of the stage, a silhouetted audience waves their arms and camera lights flash. The papaya has a moustache and goatee and bounces onto the stage wearing sunglasses.
ANNOUNCER: Let's hear it for the greenest of them all! The superstar papaya!
[Camera shutters snap, Max meows, sniffing, energetic music continues]
DESCRIPTION: The papaya dances and bounces on the stage. Jay steps in front of it, spreading his arms. The daydream ends and, in the dining room, Max looks at the papaya and sniffs it.
JAY: Make way, please!
[Max yowls]
DESCRIPTION: Max jumps off the table.
JAY: Stand back!
[Sniffing, Max meows, squeaks]
DESCRIPTION: Max sniffs a Brussels sprout on the floor, and Jay pats the papaya on the table.
JAY: You're safe with me, papa-paya.
[The music stops, wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil walks to Jay and waves his arms.
NIKHIL: You've got a snake to make, Jay. Hiss!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at the papaya.
JAY: Oh! I won't be far away.
[Popping]
DESCRIPTION: At the table, Appa sits across from Jay and Nikhil. He holds carrots and a potato.
APPA: Ah-ha!
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Appa shows Nikhil the vegetables.
NIKHIL: Ooh!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil takes the potato and the carrots.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Popping, whooshing, Max meows, whooshing, whooshing, chime]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil places the carrot tips around the potato, like a mane, then spins the potato. On the floor, Max plays with the Brussels sprout. Jay picks up zucchinis and connects pieces, creating a snake. Nikhil and Jay fist bump.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yes!
[The music stops, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Appa looks at the vegetable sculptures.
APPA: Well, this is the best courgette snake and potato, carrot lion I've ever seen. And I've seen a few.
[Nikhil and Jay giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim appears in the dining room doorway.
JIM: Ah! My favourite veggie artists!
[Nikhil and Jay gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Jim!
[Jim chuckles, upbeat music plays, squeaking]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run to Jim and hug him. Appa waves.
APPA: Hello, Jimbo!
JIM: Hello!
[Upbeat music plays]
APPA: Right, you lot, I've got a sambal to cook. Now, where's my apron?
DESCRIPTION: Jim crouches beside the table and looks at the lion and the snake.
JIM: Oh! These remind me of my veggie sculpture days. One of my pieces was in an art gallery.
[Jay and Nikhil gasp]
NIKHIL AND JAY: Really?
JAY: Whoa!
JIM: Three sprouts and a line of carrots on me plate in the Gallery Cafe
[Jim chuckles, ding, drum stinger plays, Nikhil and Jay giggle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim winks.
JIM: Wowzers, trousers. That's a very scary lion. Roar!
[Nikhil and Jay scream, Jim roars, Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Jim chases Nikhil and Jay around the dining room table.
NIKHIL: Jim!
[Boys giggle, Jim roars, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jim chases Nikhil and Jay around the dining room table. Jim stops by the lion and the snake, and Jay and Nikhil duck behind the table.
JIM: Oh, you're right. I need to get going and get this leftover veg to Nana at the allotment.
[Jim sighs, the music stops, creak]
DESCRIPTION: Jim looks under the table at Nikhil and Jay. The Brussels sprout rolls behind the boys.
JIM: Are you boys coming?
NIKHIL: Not yet. We're gonna ride our bikes there in a bit.
[Max meows]
DESCRIPTION: Max runs and stops behind the boys. She wiggles her bottom, then chases the Brussels sprout.
NIKHIL: Appa's making sambal first.
[Upbeat music plays, box rustles, sculptures thump, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jim takes the box off the counter and packs the lion and snake sculptures. He packs the spare sculpture vegetables and the papaya in the box.
JIM: Righto! I'll take your sculptures with me now then. I've got plenty of room. Here we go. There we are.
[Max meows, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim reaches for the Brussels sprout on the floor, and Nikhil pops up, startling him.
NIKHIL: Roar! Thanks, Jim!
[Jay hisses, wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands, waving his arms.
JAY: That's snake for bye!
JIM: Oh!
[Everyone giggles, box rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay waves and Jim picks up the box.
APPA: I'll see you down at the allotment in a bit.
DESCRIPTION: Appa waves and Jim leaves, carrying the box.
JIM: Cheerio then.
APPA: Right, you two. It's sambal time!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa, Jay, and Nikhil dance.
APPA, JAY, AND NIKHIL: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
DESCRIPTION: Vegetables fall. Later, Appa stands by the counter with the pile of sambal vegetables in front of him.
[The music stops]
APPA: Okay, Jay. I need the papaya now. Where did you hide it?
[Confused music note plays]
JAY: Huh? I didn't hide it anywhere.
[Footsteps patter, Jay gasps, drumming, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his arms and looks at the ceiling.
JAY: Where has it gone?
NIKHIL: Jim must have mixed it up with the veggies and taken it to the allotment.
[Sad music plays, Jay sniffles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay’s eyes fill with tears.
JAY: No! My superstar papa-paya!
NIKHIL: Oh.
[Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil puts his right arm around Jay’s shoulders.
NIKHIL: Come on! If we cycle down now, we can get there in time to find your papaya. Come on, Jay!
DESCRIPTION: In a split screen, Nikhil raises his left fist, Jay stands on the ceiling and smiles, and Appa smiles.
NIKHIL: Let's go, go, go!
APPA: Uh, hmm.
[Upbeat music notes play, bird chirps, jumps boing, crowd chatters, lid clatters, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: In the allotment, a bird flies over a greenhouse as Jay arrives. Jay looks beneath a plant and inside a composter.
JAY: Papa-paya? Papa-paya!
MR. AWAN: Yo! Yo! Yo! This is it, people!
[Appa pants]
DESCRIPTION: Appa arrives.
APPA: The veggie show. It's about to start!
NIKHIL AND JAY: Wow!
[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: In front of the shed, Mr. Awan films his video. He looks at the vegetable sculptures, including a rabbit, a lion, two snakes, a frog, a gorilla, a peacock, an elephant, and a porcupine.
MR. AWAN: The wait is over, animal sculptors. The winner of the annual Spuds and Spades Allotment Fruit and Veggie Sculpture Show is about to be revealed. I ooh-ed and aw-ed and mmm-ed and uh-ed about this. But there could be only one winner, and the winner is…
DESCRIPTION: Mr. Awan picks up the gorilla.
[Nana exclaims]
MR. AWAN: This fabulous green gorilla made by Nana!
[Crowd cheers, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Nana pops up in front of Mr. Awan.
NANA: Hey! Oh! What a smashing surprise! I can't believe Gary the Gorilla won!
[Whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Mr. Awan points at the gorilla sculpture.
NANA: Cooey, fans! Hello!
[Camera clunks, ding]
DESCRIPTION: Nana moves closer to the camera and winks.
[Soft music plays]
JAY: Is that my papa-paya?
NIKHIL: Yay! We found it.
JAY: But, but, but now it's a Gary.
[The music stops]
NANA: Did you see that? I won!
[Jay and Nikhil chuckle awkwardly]
NANA: Oh, silly me, bagging on about myself when you both wanted to win.
APPA: It's not that, Mum, it's, well—
NIKHIL: Gary was Jay's superstar papaya!
DESCRIPTION: Jay smiles and nods.
JIM: Oh, no! I'm sorry. That's my fault. I thought it was part of the leftover veg. I'm so sorry, Jay.
NANA: What are ya like, Jim? Surely, you should have spotted his star quality.
[Jim chuckles, chiming, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nana shakes the Gary the gorilla, then kneels in front of Jay and gives him the gorilla.
NANA: Here you go, Jay. You take Gary back where he belongs.
[Jay gasps]
JAY: Are you sure?
[Wobbling]
DESCRIPTION: Nana lifts her arms and shakes them.
NANA: Of course. I'm just happy I got to be on Mr. Awan's channel.
[Nana cheers, everyone chuckles, upbeat music plays, squeak, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Gary, the gorilla papaya sculpture. Stars appear in his eyes and over his head.
JAY: I'm never gonna let you out of my sight! Superstar Papa-aya Gary!
DESCRIPTION: Appa wipes his brow.
APPA: Phew! Now, we can make Amma's favourite sambal.
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Nikhil follow Jay across the allotment.
APPA AND NIKHIL SING: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[Whooshing, tap squeaks, water flows]
DESCRIPTION: At home in the kitchen, Appa washes the lion and snake sculptures. He turns the faucet off and puts the sculptures on the counter. Appa dances, raising his hands in the air.
APPA SINGS: Sambal! Sambal! Sambal!
[The music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Appa looks at the counter.
APPA: Uh?
[Slide whistle, soft music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Appa turns and looks at Jay, who holds Gary the gorilla. Appa kneels on the floor in front of him.
APPA: Ah, Jay. Um, I'm gonna need the papaya now, buddy.
JAY: Hmm. But I don't want to lose Gary again.
DESCRIPTION: Jay hugs Gary.
APPA: But the papaya, I mean Gary, was grown to make a delicious meal.
JAY: Not to be a superstar?
APPA: Well, it's still gonna be the superstar of our special sambal, Jay.
[Jay sighs, majestic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Jay gives Gary to Appa.
JAY: Okay. Bye-bye, Gary. I'll never forget you.
[Whooshing, slurp, munching]
DESCRIPTION: Later, at the dining room table, Jay eats sambal and rubs his tummy.
JAY: Mmm!
[Jay sighs, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa sit across from Jay and Nikhil at the table.
AMMA: Mmm.
[Slurping]
DESCRIPTION: Amma eats her sambal.
AMMA: Best sambal ever! Must have been the homegrown papaya.
JAY: Yep! Because it was a superstar gorilla called Gary!
AMMA: Huh?
[Everyone laughs, Max meows, slide whistle, coins clatter, Max yowls, everyone gasps, Max purrs, everyone laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nearby, Max looks at a Brussels sprout on a carrom coin, then pounces and knocks the carrom coins off a carrom board. Everyone peers into the living room where Max lies on her back on the carrom board, playing with the Brussels sprout.
[Upbeat music plays]
