DESCRIPTION: In animation, a boy with short brown hair, Nikhil, opens the front door of a townhouse. Nikhil wears a red hooded pullover sweater. His younger brother, Jay, jumps up to the door. Jay has short brown hair and wears a purple long-sleeved shirt with a green collar and green cuffs.

NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil!

JAY: And I'm Jay!

NIKHIL: Here's a little story about where our family's from.

[Song] Hey!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map. Illustrations of their mother, Amma, and their father, Appa, appear. Amma has chin-length brown hair and wears orange glasses. Appa has short brown hair and a thick brown beard.

NIKHIL AND JAY SINGING: It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa!

[Song] Hey!

DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma dance side by side while Appa holds a cup of tea. Amma wears a blue top with orange pants. Appa wears a red quarter-zip sweater and blue pants.

NIKHIL AND JAY SINGING: She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay dance together and with their parents.

[Song] Oh!

NIKHIL AND JAY SINGING: And then we came along.

NIKHIL AND JAY SINGING: And this is our song!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay dance with Amma and Appa.

[Jay giggling]

JAY: Nikhil likes…

NIKHIL: Missions! Jay likes…

JAY: Being loud!

NIKHIL AND JAY SINGING: We both love to dream!

DESCRIPTION: In their imagination, Nikhil and Jay play on a carrom board. The brothers fly through the sky in a rocket ship.

JAY SINGING: We can shoot a carrom pocket!

NIKHIL SINGING: Yeah, or blast off in a rocket!

NIKHIL AND JAY SINGING: We make the greatest team!

NIKHIL: Wait.

JAY: What!?

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold up a tablet, displaying a video call with their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has black hair and wears an orange top with a blue sari. Thatha has short grey hair and wears a beige kurta over a white shirt with glasses on a chain around his neck.

NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha!

DESCRIPTION: Behind Nikhil and Jay are their other set of grandparents, Jim and Nana. Jim has short grey hair and wears a green collared shirt. He holds a plate of food. Nana has short grey hair and wears a yellow high-visibility jacket. She holds a lollipop crossing guard sign.

JAY: And Jim and Nana!

NIKHIL: And don't forget Max the cat!

DESCRIPTION: A tabby cat, Max, licks her paw. Everyone dances.

DESCRIPTION: Max sits between Amma and Appa wearing a party hat.

[Max meowing]

[Amma and Appa laughing]

DESCRIPTION: Appa pets Max.

[Nikhil groaning]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stands nearby with his arms crossed.

[Nikhil huffing]

DESCRIPTION: Jay stands nearby with his arms crossed.

[Jay huffing]

AMMA AND APPA: Huh?

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay turn their backs on each other. Amma and Appa look at Nikhil and Jay, then each other, and shrug. Amma and Appa hold Max between them.

AMMA AND APPA SINGING: Happy birthday, dear Max. Oh, how we love you!

AMMA: Piranthanaal vaazhththukkal, Max.

DESCRIPTION: Amma snuggles Max.

[Max meowing]

AMMA: That means "Happy birthday" in Tamil.

DESCRIPTION: Appa pulls Max into his arms.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

AMMA: Hmm?

DESCRIPTION: Appa sets Max down on the floor, and Max licks her paw.

AMMA: Chellams? What's with the birthday huff?

JAY: Ask Nikhil. He knows what he did.

[Jay huffing]

NIKHIL: No, I don't. Ask Jay. He's the one who did something.

[Nikhil grunting]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay narrow their gazes.

[Nikhil and Jay groaning]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay turn their backs on each other.

AMMA: Uh…

DESCRIPTION: Amma leans closer to Appa.

AMMA WHISPERING: Any idea what this is about?

DESCRIPTION: Appa shakes his head and shrugs.

APPA: Oh. Did you use each other's toothbrushes again? Huh?

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay glare at each other and shake their heads.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh-uh.

[Appa sighing]

DESCRIPTION: Amma stands.

AMMA: Come on, boys. It's Max's birthday! Just say "sorry".

DESCRIPTION: Amma spins around and stumbles into Max. Max jumps and lands on Appa’s head.

[Max yowling]

AMMA: Oh!

APPA YELPING: Ah!

AMMA: Sorry, Max.

[Amma chuckling awkwardly]

[Nikhil and Jay laughing]

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

[Nikhil and Jay grunting]

[Amma sighing]

APPA: Ah, well.

DESCRIPTION: Appa sets Max on the floor.

[Max meowing]

APPA: Right, lads. I've got an important mission for you. Should you choose to accept it.

JAY: What is it?

APPA: It's a top-secret play with Max in the garden and say sorry to each other mission.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Hmm.

APPA: What do you say to that?

JAY: Sorry?

APPA: Exactly!

DESCRIPTION: Appa wraps his arms around Nikhil and Jay.

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

APPA: That's what you need to say to each other. Huh?

DESCRIPTION: At the back door, Nikhil, Jay and Appa follow Max outside. Max leaps onto a soccer ball and rolls across the grass.

[Max meowing]

[Nikhil and Jay laughing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other and frown.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

APPA: Off you go.

NIKHIL AND JAY: But!

NIKHIL: Uh…

JAY: But!

NIKHIL: Uh, but.

APPA: See you in a bit!

DESCRIPTION: Appa walks back inside.

[Appa humming]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other, then turn their backs to each other and cross their arms.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

DESCRIPTION: Appa looks through the glass of the back door and frowns. In the yard, Max rolls the soccer ball over to Nikhil and Jay.

[Max meowing]

[Jay groaning]

[Nikhil groaning]

DESCRIPTION: Max looks up at Nikhil and Jay, then pushes the ball away with her paw.

[Max meowing]

DESCRIPTION: Max leaps after the ball.

[Max meowing]

DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa walk outside and past Nikhil and Jay. Amma carries plates and glasses. Appa carries a bowl of fruit.

AMMA: Uh…

APPA: Um…

DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa set the plates, glasses and fruit on the patio table and share a look.

AMMA AND APPA: Hmm.

AMMA: Well, this is awkward.

APPA: Look, copy us. All you have to do is put your hand out and –

DESCRIPTION: Appa takes Amma’s hand. He starts to shake her hand, then wiggles her arm.

[Appa vocalizing]

[Amma giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Appa lets go of Amma’s hand and wiggles his arms.

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay cross their arms and turn their back to each other.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

APPA: Well, not exactly like that. But you get the idea.

[Amma chuckling]

AMMA: What can I say? I've got strong hands!

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay cross their arms and turn their back to each other.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

APPA: Okay, your turn, boys. Huh?

AMMA: Come on. You can do it!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay face each other and scowl.

[Nikhil grunting]

DESCRIPTION: Max rolls by on the soccer ball.

[Max meowing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil narrows his gaze.

[Nikhil growling]

DESCRIPTION: Jay narrows his gaze.

[Jay growling]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay clench and unclench their fists.

APPA WHISPERING: There we go.

AMMA WHISPERING: Come on, boys.

DESCRIPTION: Jay holds up his hand and wiggles his fingers.

JAY GRUMBLING: Hmm.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil holds up his hand.

[Amma and Appa gasping]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold out their hands.

[Amma and Appa gasping]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay move their hands closer. Their hands nearly touch, and they pull them away.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Nope!

[Amma and Appa sighing]

NIKHIL AND JAY: I'm not doing it.

DESCRIPTION: Max walks on the soccer ball and rolls it past Amma and Appa.

[Max meowing]

APPA: Aw! But what about Maxy's birthday picnic?

NIKHIL AND JAY: Picnic! Yeah!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay high-five.

[Amma gasping]

AMMA: Oh! Oh! Was that a handshake?

NIKHIL AND JAY: No!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay pull their hands away and cross their arms.

APPA: Well, even if you can't say sorry, you can help with the picnic.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Yes!

DESCRIPTION: At the table, Nikhil and Jay glare at each other. Appa sets down bowls of fruit.

[Appa sighing]

APPA: There we are.

NIKHIL: Appa, can you ask Jay to pass the bananas, please?

[Appa sighing]

APPA: Jay, can you pass the bananas, please?

JAY: Yep, sure!

DESCRIPTION: Jay drops bananas in Appa’s arms.

JAY: Appa, can you ask Nikhil to pass the apples, please?

[Appa sighing]

APPA: Nikhil, can you pass the –

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pushes apples into Appa’s arms.

[Appa grunting]

APPA: Yep, thank you.

NIKHIL: Appa, can you ask Jay to pass the mangoes, too.

APPA: Okay, yep. That's right.

DESCRIPTION: Jay piles mangos onto the apples and bananas.

NIKHIL: And the pakoras.

APPA: Could ya…

DESCRIPTION: Jay shoves pakoras into Appa’s arms.

APPA: Oh. Um, can somebody tell somebody to help before I, uh...

DESCRIPTION: Appa’s armful of fruit wobbles. He drops the fruit.

APPA: Oh.

DESCRIPTION: The fruit lies scattered across the table among the other party food and supplies, including sandwiches and hats. A banana lies on Appa’s head.

APPA: Oh, whoops.

JAY: It was Nikhil's fault. He asked for too many things. He ruins everything!

[Magical music plays]

DESCRIPTION: In Jay’s imagination, Jay sits at a table with his monkey stuffy Chickpea.

JAY: Ooh!

DESCRIPTION: Jay drinks from a mug on the table.

[Slurping]

[Nikhil growling in the distance]

[Jay gasping]

[Stomping]

DESCRIPTION: The ground shakes.

JAY: Huh?

[Jay yelping]

DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps up from his seat and drops the mug. Nikhil, as a giant dinosaur-like monster, stomps through a city.

NIKHIL: Grr! Roar!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stomps on tables. He walks up to Jay’s table and waves his claw-like hands.

[Stomping]

[Nikhil growling]

[Jay screaming]

JAY: Nikhil's going to stomp all over the picnic.

[Magical music plays]

DESCRIPTION: In reality, Nikhil and Appa look confused. Jay runs across the yard waving his arms.

JAY: He's Nikhilzilla!

[Jay screaming]

NIKHIL: Actually, that's quite a cool name! But I'd never do that, and I'm never going to play with you again!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil crosses his arms and turns his back to Jay.

[Nikhil huffing]

JAY: Ever, ever, ever?

NKHIL: Nuh-uh.

JAY: Fine! I'll never, ever play with you, too. Ever, ever, ever!

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

APPA: Oh, but what about Max's birthday? Hmm?

DESCRIPTION: Appa looks around. Amma stands beside him.

APPA: Where is she anyway?

AMMA: Huh?

NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh?

DESCRIPTION: Amma looks toward the house.

AMMA: Huh?

DESCRIPTION: By the door, Max stretches.

[Max purring]

[Amma gasping]

AMMA: She's doing what we always do on her birthday! Cat yoga! Come on!

DESCRIPTION: Later, Appa stretches standing up. Amma kneels on her hands and knees and stretches beside Max.

[Appa grunting]

DESCRIPTION: Appa leans forward and reaches toward the grass.

[Appa grunting]

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other and smile.

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay cross their arms and turn their backs to each other.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

[Max meowing]

AMMA: This is the Max pose. Maxjeryasana.

APPA: What?

AMMA: On all fours.

DESCRIPTION: Appa bends forward.

[Appa groaning]

AMMA: Remember to tuck your tail under.

[Appa groaning]

APPA: I haven't got a tail!

DESCRIPTION: Jay looks at Appa.

[Jay quietly laughing]

APPA: Whoa!

JAY: Appa! That's all wrong!

APPA YELPING: Ah!

DESCRIPTION: Appa falls flat onto the grass.

[Appa chuckling]

APPA: You show me then.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Okay!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay kneel on all fours. Appa gets up on his feet and reaches toward the grass.

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

[Appa grunting]

DESCRIPTION: Jay curves his back upward.

JAY: Ah!

DESCRIPTION: Jay raises his left arm and right leg and holds them straight.

[Jay giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Jay starts to lose his balance.

JAY YELPING: Whoa! Wah!

DESCRIPTION: Jay falls flat on the grass.

NIKHIL YELPING: Wah!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil loses his balance and falls flat on the grass.

NIKHIL GRUNTING: Oof!

DESCRIPTION: Appa starts to lose his balance.

APPA YELPING: Whoa!

DESCRIPTION: Appa falls flat on the grass.

APPA GRUNTING: Oof.

DESCRIPTION: Amma loses her balance and falls flat on the patio.

AMMA: Whoo!

DESCRIPTION: Max stands up straight.

[Everyone laughing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay jump to their feet and look at each other.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Huh? Uh...

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look away from each other.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Uh…

DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa stand and share a look.

AMMA: Hmm.

APPA: Huh.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay glance at each other and smile.

[Amma gasping]

AMMA WHISPERING: Come on, Chellams.

APPA WHISPERING: Yeah.

[Max meowing quietly]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stand facing each other.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Uhh...

[Nikhil and Jay sighing]

NIKHIL: Jay.

JAY: Nikhil.

NIKHIL AND JAY: I'm sorr –

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold out their hands while looking away from each other, then pull them away,

[Amma and Appa sighing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay cross their arms and turn their backs to each other.

[Nikhil and Jay huffing]

NIKHIL TO HIMSELF: Hmm. How can I say sorry to Jay?

[Magical music plays]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil imagines himself on a giant piano keyboard.

NIKHIL: Huh? Hmm.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil steps on a piano key.

NIKHIL: So.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil steps on another key.

NIKHIL: Rrr.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil’s armadillo stuffy Star drops onto another key.

[Star squeaking]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles and steps onto the first key.

NIKHIL: Sor.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil falls.

NIKHIL: Oof!

[Nikhil yelping]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stands on the keys.

[Nikhil sighing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil steps on a key.

NIKHIL: Sor.

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil leaps across the keyboard and slips.

[Nikhil yelping]

[Crashing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stands and spins around.

NIKHIL: Whoa!

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil shakes his head.

[Nikhil sighing]

[Magical music plays]

DESCRIPTION: In reality, Nikhil frowns.

NIKHIL QUIETLY: Actually, it's too hard to say sorry.

JAY: You just said it!

NIKHIL: I mean, it's really hard to say it to each other.

JAY: Yeah, it's like the hardest thing ever, ever, ever.

APPA: Hmm. How do alien elephants say sorry to each other, Jay?

JAY: Hmm. Ooh! I know! Blip-blip-bloop!

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

[Max purring]

[Max meowing]

AMMA: Aw, look! Max is telling you how to say sorry in cat, too!

DESCRIPTION: Max nods.

[Max meowing]

NIKHIL AND JAY: Hmm.

APPA: And now try it the Nikhil and Jay way.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Sss…

JAY SHOUTING AT THE SAME TIME AS NIKHIL: Sorry, Nikhil!

NIKHIL SHOUTING AT THE SAME TIME AS JAY: Sorry, Jay!

AMMA: Oh, sabash! You did it!

APPA: Yeah! That's the stuff!

[Max meowing]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay frown. Appa pulls out his handkerchief.

APPA: So proud.

[Appa snuffling]

DESCRIPTION: Appa wipes tears from his eyes and blows his nose.

[Nose honking loudly]

[Amma yelping]

[Appa giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps into Nikhil’s arms, and they share a hug.

NIKHIL AND JAY: Mmm.

[Max meowing]

NIKHIL AND JAY: Hmm?

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay kneel beside Max.

NIKHIL: We're sorry we've been grumpy on your birthday, Max.

[Max meowing]

JAY: But now we can celebrate it together!

DESCRIPTION: Max jumps into Nikhil and Jay’s arms.

[Max purring]

NIKHIL: Yeah!

DESCRIPTION: Max jumps down onto the grass and leaps into the air.

[Max meowing]

[Party horn honking]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stand between Amma and Appa.

EVERYONE SINGING: Happy birthday, dear Max. Meow, meow, meow, mew, mew.

[Max meowing happily]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold Max between them.

EVERYONE SINGING: Happy birthday, dear Max.

DESCRIPTION: Amma and Appa put their arms around Nikhil and Jay.

EVERYONE SINGING: Oh, how we love you.

[Max purring]

DESCRIPTION: Tears fill Appa’s eyes.

[Appa slowly sighing]

APPA: That song gets me every time.

[Appa sniffling]

EVERYONE: Piranthanaal vaazhththukkal, Max!

[Max meowing]

[Party horn honking]

EVERYONE CHEERING: Yay!

AMMA: Now, you're friends again. What was all that about?

JAY: Well.

NIKHIL: Uh…

JAY: Nikhil ate the last bit of payasam.

DESCRIPTION: Jay pulls Max away from Nikhil.

NIKHIL: No, I didn't! You did!

APPA: Uh-oh.

AMMA: Oh, no!

APPA: That might have been…

AMMA: Us. We had a midnight snack.

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

NIKHIL AND JAY: You two ate it!

[Amma laughing nervously]

NIKHIL: What do you have to say for yourselves?

[Appa chuckling nervously]

AMMA AND APPA: Uhh...

JAY: Go on. Just say it the Nikhil and Jay way.

NIKHIL: Yeah.

[Amma and Appa deeply inhaling and slowly exhaling]

AMMA AND APPA: Sorry, Nikhil! Sorry, Jay!

DESCRIPTION: Jay puts down Max.

[Jay giggling]

JAY: Saying sorry is the best thing ever, ever, ever!

DESCRIPTION: Jay pulls Nikhil close.

JAY: Let's say sorry to everything!

NIKHIL: Yeah!

[Jay giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay run across the yard. Max runs after them and leaps onto the soccer ball.

[Max meowing excitedly]

DESCRIPTION: Jay picks up the ball, and Max slides off.

[Max yowling]

JAY: Sorry for kicking you, ball!

DESCRIPTION: Max pulls the ball out of Jay’s hands with her claws and rolls around with it.

[Max meowing]

[Jay giggling]

AMMA AND APPA: Aw.

[Amma and Appa laughing]

[Nikhil and Jay giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay stomp on the grass.

NIKHIL: Sorry for stepping on you, grass.

DESCRIPTION: Mac belly flops onto the grass.

[Max meowing]

[Nikhil giggling]

DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Max run over to the family carrom board next to Amma’s work shed.

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

NIKHIL AND JAY: Sorry for always crashing into you, carrom board.

DESCRIPTION: Max belly flops onto the carrom board and knocks it down.

[Max meowing]

[Crashing]

[Nikhil and Jay gasping]

NIKHIL AND JAY SHOUTING: Sorry, carrom board!

[Max meowing]

[Everyone laughing]
