NIKHIL: Hi, I'm Nikhil.
JAY: And I'm Jay!
[Map rustles, boings, plane whooshes, Appa shouts, Amma laughs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil pulls down a map showing a small boat in the water off the coast of South India. Amma’s face appears. She has chin-length brown hair with a yellow bow. A plane flies to England, and Appa’s face appears. He has short brown hair and a beard. A heart-shaped outline surrounds them. Amma dances, and Appa holds a cat-shaped mug.
[Song] Here's a little story about where our family's from. It starts in South India with Amma, our mom. She caught a plane to England and met our dad, Appa. She loves to dance, and he makes the best cuppa. Oh. And then we came along. Oh. And this is our song.

DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces with his arms in the air.
JAY: Being loud!
[Chimes, coins rattle, rocket ship whooshes]
DESCRIPTION: They high-five and daydream about riding coins on a carrom board. In outer space, they peer through the window of a rocket ship.
[Song] We both love to dream. We can shoot a carrom pocket. Yeah, or blast off in a rocket. We make the greatest team.
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump.
[Needle scratches a record, slide whistle]
NIKHIL: Wait.
JAY: What?
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hold a picture of their grandparents, Ammamma and Thatha. Ammamma has short black hair and wears a yellow shirt and a blue saree. Thatha has short white hair and wears a yellow jacket, a white shirt, and eyeglasses on a chain around his neck.
NIKHIL: There's Ammamma and Thatha.
[Jim and Nana exclaim]
DESCRIPTION: Jim and Nana stand behind Nikhil and Jay. Jim has short brown hair and holds a tray of food. He wears a green shirt and brown pants. Nana holds her lollipop traffic sign turned red.
JAY: And Jim and Nana.
NIKHIL: And don't forget Max the cat.
[Max meows, crash, slide whistles]

NANA: Oh! What's all this cleaning about?
NIKHIL: When Amma's back from the dentist--
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces.
JAY: A very important visitor's coming.
[Nana and Jim chuckle]
NANA: Who's that then?
[Chiming music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: The Tooth Fairy!
[Door clicks]
APPA: We're back.
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma enter the living room.
[Nikhil gasps, jumps boing, squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hug Amma.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Amma!
NIKHIL: Amma, are you okay?
[Amma mumbles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma gives a thumbs up.
AMMA, MUFFLED: I'm fine.
[Jay gasps, upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL: Did the dentist change Amma's voice?
[Appa chuckles]
APPA: Don't worry, lads. The dentist gave her some medicine so it wouldn't hurt when they took Amma's tooth out.
DESCRIPTION: Amma nods.
APPA: So, Amma's mouth will be numb for a bit, but it doesn't hurt.
DESCRIPTION: Amma nods.
NIKHIL: Where is your tooth, Amma?
AMMA, MUFFLED: Ta-da!
[Chiming, triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma holds up a small yellow box. Nikhil takes the box, and Jay pushes Amma.
JAY: Whoosh! Sleepy time, Amma!
[Light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits on the couch with her back against the arm.
AMMA, MUFFLED: I'm not tired.
NIKHIL: But you have to sleep. A very important visitor's coming.
[Jay gasps, giggles, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil slides the yellow box under a pillow behind Amma.
NIKHIL: Hmm. There.
[Slide whistle]
APPA: Eh? Why put it there?
NIKHIL AND JAY: So, the Tooth Fairy can find it!
[Slide whistle, the music stops]
NANA: Keep up, lad!
[Gentle music plays]
AMMA, MUFFLED: The Tooth Fairy has never visited me.
[Boys gasp]
AMMA, MUFFLED: Even when I was little.
[Dramatic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay’s eyes widen, and lightning bolts appear around them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: What?!
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: The Tooth Fairy never came to visit you?
DESCRIPTION: Amma shakes her head.
AMMA: Hmm.
[Jay gasps, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps and turns to Nikhil.
JAY: This will be Amma's first Tooth Fairy visit ever, ever, ever!
[Appa clears his throat, upbeat music plays]
APPA: I'm pretty sure the Tooth Fairy doesn't visit grown-ups.
[Amma, Nikhil, and Jay gasp]
NIKHIL: Why?
[Gentle music plays, bell rings]
NANA: Oh! I've heard that when a child's tooth falls out, a bell rings in the Tooth Fairy's castle.
[Whoosh, Nana giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Jim cradles Max in his arms.
JIM: But when a grown-up's tooth is taken out, I don't think the bell rings, so the Tooth Fairy won't find out.
[Max meows, winks ding, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jim winks at Max, and she winks back.
NIKHIL: Don't worry, Amma. We will make sure the Tooth Fairy knows about your tooth, but…
JAY: You have to sleep!
NIKHIL: It's the Tooth Fairy rule.
AMMA, MUFFLED: In that case, night!
[Everyone else laughs, Amma snores, boys gasp, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lies on the couch and falls asleep. In the garden, Nikhil and Jay huddle.
JAY: We have to tell the Tooth Fairy about Amma's tooth.
NIKHIL: But how? Hmm.
[Popping, ding]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil looks up, and a dotted line leads from his eyes to a bell on the corner of Amma’s shed roof.
NIKHIL: Ah-ha! We need to ring the bell, so the Tooth Fairy will know about Amma's tooth.
[Dings]
JAY: Oh!
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands underneath the bell and jumps.
JAY: Ah! Ah!
[Jay grunts, descending music notes play]
JAY: I can't reach it, Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Hmm. How can we ring the bell for the Tooth Fairy?
[Mellow music plays, Nikhil gasps, whooshing, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil stands on a cloud in the blue sky. The cloud drifts to the tooth fairy’s castle on a cloud, with flags flying on the turrets and a golden bell over the door.
NIKHIL: Wow!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps off his small cloud and lands by the castle door.
NIKHIL: Oh, Tooth Fairy!
[Nikhil grunts, arms whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps underneath the bell and cannot reach it.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Gasps, slide whistle, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps onto his small cloud, flies away, and returns carrying a paintbrush.
NIKHIL: Ha-ha!
[Nikhil grunts, creaking, sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stretches with the paintbrush but cannot reach the bell.
NIKHIL: Nope.
[Slide whistles, bell dings]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil rides the small cloud away and returns with a litter picker. He reaches up and hits the bell.
NIKHIL: Yeah!
[Nikhil gasps, tooth fairy gasps, chiming, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: The tooth fairy flies to Nikhil. She wears a crown and carries a toothbrush wand.
NIKHIL: Yeah!
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends, and Nikhil stands in Amma’s shed. He turns and runs.
NIKHIL: Hmm. Ah-ha!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs to Jay, holding a litter picker.
NIKHIL: Jay!
JAY: Huh?
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Jay pulls Nikhil towards the bell.
NIKHIL: Oh!
[Bells ding, boys giggle]
DESCRIPTION: The boys hit the bell with the litter picker, then hit a bell in the other corner. They run back, hit the first bell again, then look around.
[The music stops]
JAY: Oh!
NIKHIL: Hmm.
JAY: Do you think the Tooth Fairy heard it?
NIKHIL: Don't know. We'll have to wait.
[Jay hums, slide whistle, bush rustles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, Nikhil lies on his tummy on the grass, holding the litter picker, and Jay sits on a nearby bench, swinging his legs.
[The music stops, litter picker rattles]
DESCRIPTION: Later, Nikhil lies on the bench as Jay wanders behind a bush with the litter picker. Later, Jay dangles upside down from the bench, and Nikhil sits on the grass, resting his chin on his left hand.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
DESCRIPTION: Later, the boys sit on the grass.
JAY: But how will we know if the Tooth Fairy comes? I don't even know what they look like.
[Jay gasps, boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands.
JAY: Hmm.
[Chiming, Jay gasps, energetic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay smiles as he stands on a floating tooth, holding his magic wand.
JAY: Hmm.
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops from tooth to tooth.
JAY: Maybe the Tooth Fairy has loads of teeth.
[Magic chimes, Jay gasps, dragon cackles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay touches his wand to a nearby tooth, and it transforms into a dragon.
JAY: Uh-uh.
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps from tooth to tooth.
JAY: Or no teeth at all!
[Magic chimes, worm coos, Jay giggles, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay touches his wand to a nearby tooth, and it transforms into a winged worm. He jumps high on the floating teeth and finds floating fairy wings.
JAY: Ooh! I know!
[Puffing]
DESCRIPTION: The fairy wings disappear, then reappear on Jay’s back.
JAY: Yes! Whee! Yeah!
[Chiming, boing]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends, and Jay jumps excitedly in front of Amma’s shed.
[The music stops]
JAY: That's it! I could be the Tooth Fairy! I'm amazing at being a fairy!
NIKHIL: And you need a Tooth Fairy manager.
[Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay across the garden.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yay!
[Upbeat music plays, plop]
DESCRIPTION: In the boys’ bedroom, Nikhil sits on Jay’s bed and holds his notebook, with a drawing of wings on the page.
NIKHIL: Time for the Tooth Fairy Checklist. Wings?
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay wears his fairy wings.
JAY: Ta-da!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil moves his pencil to a sketch of coins over a piggy bank and an arrow pointing to a pillow.
NIKHIL: Check. Money to leave under the pillow?
JAY: Hmm. But we don't have any money.
NIKHIL: I'll draw a picture instead. Amma will love that.
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay sits beside Nikhil on the bed and bounces.
JAY: Okay, but make it look like it's from the Tooth Fairy.
NIKHIL: Okay!
[Pencil scribbles, Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil draws, then shows the picture to Jay.
JAY: Wow!
NIKHIL: Right. Step one. You'll get the tooth from under Amma's cushion.
[Paper rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Jay the drawing of money, with a picture of the tooth fairy in the middle and a tooth on the side.
NIKHIL: Step two. Put the drawing under the cushion. You'll need this.
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Jay the litter picker.
NIKHIL: And remember, no one should see you.
[Whoosh, Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay salutes Nikhil.
NIKHIL: I'll keep Appa, Nana, and Jim away. And whatever happens…
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Don't wake Amma.
[Bang, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lifts his left fist, Jay stands on the ceiling wearing his fairy wings, and the drawing of the money lies beside the litter picker.
NIKHIL: Mission Tooth Fairy is go, go, go!
[Slide whistle, Amma snores, ding, light music plays, Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay peer through the living room doorway and watch Amma sleep on the couch. They give each other a thumbs up. Nikhil runs into the hallway as Appa approaches.
NIKHIL: Appa!
[The music stops]
APPA: I was just going to check on Amma.
[Upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL: I was, uh, coming to show you something in my, uh, notebook!
[Creaking, footsteps tap, whooshing, adults gasp, squeaking]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Nikhil shows his notebook to Nana, Jim, and Appa.
NIKHIL: This is the first circle I did on my own. That's the big one. That's the medium one. Uh. And that's the tiny one!
NANA: Oh!
[Ding, Appa chuckles, nose blows]
DESCRIPTION: Nana and Jim give thumbs-up signs. Appa smiles, tears unshed in his eyes, then blows his nose.
[Boing, upbeat music plays, Jay giggles, Amma snores, litter picker rattles, slide whistle, Amma gasps, Jay gasps, Amma groans, snores]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Jay reaches for the yellow box under the pillow with the litter picker, and Amma rolls onto her tummy, arms over the pillow. She rolls over, and Jay sneaks closer.
[Amma gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits up in her sleep.
AMMA: Step away from the dumpling or the jelly gets it!
[Whoosh, boing, Amma snores]
DESCRIPTION: Amma moves her arm close to the box, and Jay pulls the litter picker away. Amma flops back onto the pillow. Jay stops and blinks rapidly.
[Whoosh, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Nikhil shows Jim, Nana, and Appa circles in his notebook.
NIKHIL: And these are circles inside circles.
JIM: Oh! That's a lot of circles, Nikhil.
[Jim chuckles]
APPA: Oh! They are beautiful. What a talent!
[Harp music plays, ding, whooshing, creaking, Amma sighs, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles broadly. In the living room, Jay reaches for the box with the litter picker and grabs the pillow. Amma falls off the couch.
[The music stops]
AMMA: Ah! Jay?
JAY: Whoops.
[Appa gasps]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, everyone looks towards the living room doorway.
APPA: What was that?
[Adults exclaim, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Appa the notebook. He nudges him and winks.
NIKHIL: I'll go and check! You stay and count all my circles. Whoever gets it right, uh, will win a prize!
APPA: Yeah!
JIM: Aw.
[Nana giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Appa looks at the notebook.
APPA: One, two.
[Whoosh, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Amma sits on the pillow on the floor.
AMMA: Oh, wow! My mouth isn't numb anymore!
[Jay and Amma giggle]
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Slide whistles, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil arrives.
NIKHIL WHISPERS: Did you do it?
JAY: Not yet. She woke up.
[Amma yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Amma stands and stretches.
AMMA: Right. Need to crack on. Must thank Nana and Jim properly for looking after you while we were out.
[Descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay block Amma.
[The music stops, footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay walk towards Amma, and she backs up.
NIKHIL: Uh-uh. You know the Tooth Fairy rules. Go back to sleep now.
AMMA: Uh, okay. But I'm not sleepy.
JAY: We'll help you with our sleepy noises.
AMMA: Mmm. Okay.
[Whooshing, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lies on the couch with her hands under her head, and Nikhil and Jay join her.
AMMA: Ooh! Are you two going to sleep as well?
NIKHIL: No, but we can only make the noises lying down.
JAY: Ready, Amma? Close your eyes. No peeking.
AMMA: Hmm.
[Jay imitates waves, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Jay moves up the couch and waves his arms by Amma’s head. Nikhil moves to Amma’s other ear. She smiles and opens one eye.
NIKHIL: And listen to the sound of ocean waves.
[Amma chuckles]
AMMA: Sounds more like a whale flushing the toilet.
[Amma chuckles, Jay shushes her]
AMMA: Oh.
JAY: Relax and listen, Amma.
[Jay whooshes, Amma giggles, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Appa looks at the notebook.
APPA: 87, 88, 89, 90!
[Nana giggles]
NANA: Oh! You missed one there, pet!
[Book rustles]
APPA: Oh!
[Jim chuckles]
APPA: 91, 92.
[The music stops; Amma, Jay, and Nikhil snore; Jim sighs]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Amma, Jay, and Nikhil sleep on the couch. Appa enters, carrying the notebook, and Nana and Jim follow him.
APPA: I've got it! I've got it! It's 123 circles!
DESCRIPTION: Amma, Jay, and Nikhil awaken.
AMMA: What?
APPA: Oops! Aw, sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.
[Slide whistle, relaxed music note plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits up and stretches. Jay and Nikhil sit beside her.
AMMA: Oh! I must have dozed off again. Thanks for the sleepy noises, boys; I feel very rested.
[Boys gasp, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay slide down to the floor.
NIKHIL: I fell asleep, too! Did you get her tooth, Jay?
[Jay gasps]
JAY: I fell asleep, too.
NIKHIL: Oh, no! Amma will think—
JAY: The Tooth Fairy didn't visit!
[Dramatic music notes play, boys gasp, Max meows, paper rustles, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other wide-eyed and open-mouthed. Max arrives, jumps onto the pillow on the couch, and a note falls to the floor.
AMMA: Hmm. What's this?
[Paper rustles, Max meows, gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma picks up the note.
AMMA: It says: "Thank you for your tooth. With toothy wishes from the Tooth Fairy!"
[Amma gasps, party horns blow, slide whistles, boys gasp, upbeat music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lifts the cushion, and the yellow box is gone.
AMMA: Nikhil! Jay! Look! My tooth is gone! I got my first-ever visit from the Tooth Fairy. Super!
NIKHIL: The Tooth Fairy must have heard us.
JAY: They really came!
[Squeak; Jim, Appa, and Nana cheer]
DESCRIPTION: Amma hugs Nikhil and Jay
APPA: That is a first. The Tooth Fairy visiting a grown-up.
JIM: Ay! One day, I hope they'll visit me, too!
[Dings; Jim, Appa, and Nana chuckle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim holds Max cradled in his arms and winks at her. She winks back.
NIKHIL AND JAY: We could make that happen!
[Tap]

DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Nikhil sweeps the floor, and Jay fluffs a pillow and puts it behind Nana. On the couch, Nana and Jim watch, smiling.
NANA: Oh! What's all this cleaning about?
NIKHIL: When Amma's back from the dentist--
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay bounces.
JAY: A very important visitor's coming.
[Nana and Jim chuckle]
NANA: Who's that then?
[Chiming music plays]
NIKHIL AND JAY: The Tooth Fairy!
[Door clicks]
APPA: We're back.
DESCRIPTION: Appa and Amma enter the living room.
[Nikhil gasps, jumps boing, squeak]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay hug Amma.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Amma!
NIKHIL: Amma, are you okay?
[Amma mumbles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma gives a thumbs up.
AMMA, MUFFLED: I'm fine.
[Jay gasps, upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL: Did the dentist change Amma's voice?
[Appa chuckles]
APPA: Don't worry, lads. The dentist gave her some medicine so it wouldn't hurt when they took Amma's tooth out.
DESCRIPTION: Amma nods.
APPA: So, Amma's mouth will be numb for a bit, but it doesn't hurt.
DESCRIPTION: Amma nods.
NIKHIL: Where is your tooth, Amma?
AMMA, MUFFLED: Ta-da!
[Chiming, triumphant music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma holds up a small yellow box. Nikhil takes the box, and Jay pushes Amma.
JAY: Whoosh! Sleepy time, Amma!
[Light music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits on the couch with her back against the arm.
AMMA, MUFFLED: I'm not tired.
NIKHIL: But you have to sleep. A very important visitor's coming.
[Jay gasps, giggles, slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil slides the yellow box under a pillow behind Amma.
NIKHIL: Hmm. There.
[Slide whistle]
APPA: Eh? Why put it there?
NIKHIL AND JAY: So, the Tooth Fairy can find it!
[Slide whistle, the music stops]
NANA: Keep up, lad!
[Gentle music plays]
AMMA, MUFFLED: The Tooth Fairy has never visited me.
[Boys gasp]
AMMA, MUFFLED: Even when I was little.
[Dramatic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay’s eyes widen, and lightning bolts appear around them.
NIKHIL AND JAY: What?!
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: The Tooth Fairy never came to visit you?
DESCRIPTION: Amma shakes her head.
AMMA: Hmm.
[Jay gasps, jump boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps and turns to Nikhil.
JAY: This will be Amma's first Tooth Fairy visit ever, ever, ever!
[Appa clears his throat, upbeat music plays]
APPA: I'm pretty sure the Tooth Fairy doesn't visit grown-ups.
[Amma, Nikhil, and Jay gasp]
NIKHIL: Why?
[Gentle music plays, bell rings]
NANA: Oh! I've heard that when a child's tooth falls out, a bell rings in the Tooth Fairy's castle.
[Whoosh, Nana giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Jim cradles Max in his arms.
JIM: But when a grown-up's tooth is taken out, I don't think the bell rings, so the Tooth Fairy won't find out.
[Max meows, winks ding, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: Jim winks at Max, and she winks back.
NIKHIL: Don't worry, Amma. We will make sure the Tooth Fairy knows about your tooth, but…
JAY: You have to sleep!
NIKHIL: It's the Tooth Fairy rule.
AMMA, MUFFLED: In that case, night!
[Everyone else laughs, Amma snores, boys gasp, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lies on the couch and falls asleep. In the garden, Nikhil and Jay huddle.
JAY: We have to tell the Tooth Fairy about Amma's tooth.
NIKHIL: But how? Hmm.
[Popping, ding]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil looks up, and a dotted line leads from his eyes to a bell on the corner of Amma’s shed roof.
NIKHIL: Ah-ha! We need to ring the bell, so the Tooth Fairy will know about Amma's tooth.
[Dings]
JAY: Oh!
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands underneath the bell and jumps.
JAY: Ah! Ah!
[Jay grunts, descending music notes play]
JAY: I can't reach it, Nikhil.
NIKHIL: Hmm. How can we ring the bell for the Tooth Fairy?
[Mellow music plays, Nikhil gasps, whooshing, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Nikhil stands on a cloud in the blue sky. The cloud drifts to the tooth fairy’s castle on a cloud, with flags flying on the turrets and a golden bell over the door.
NIKHIL: Wow!
[Slide whistle]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps off his small cloud and lands by the castle door.
NIKHIL: Oh, Tooth Fairy!
[Nikhil grunts, arms whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps underneath the bell and cannot reach it.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
[Gasps, slide whistle, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil jumps onto his small cloud, flies away, and returns carrying a paintbrush.
NIKHIL: Ha-ha!
[Nikhil grunts, creaking, sighs]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil stretches with the paintbrush but cannot reach the bell.
NIKHIL: Nope.
[Slide whistles, bell dings]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil rides the small cloud away and returns with a litter picker. He reaches up and hits the bell.
NIKHIL: Yeah!
[Nikhil gasps, tooth fairy gasps, chiming, whooshing]
DESCRIPTION: The tooth fairy flies to Nikhil. She wears a crown and carries a toothbrush wand.
NIKHIL: Yeah!
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends, and Nikhil stands in Amma’s shed. He turns and runs.
NIKHIL: Hmm. Ah-ha!
[Upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil runs to Jay, holding a litter picker.
NIKHIL: Jay!
JAY: Huh?
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yes!
DESCRIPTION: Jay pulls Nikhil towards the bell.
NIKHIL: Oh!
[Bells ding, boys giggle]
DESCRIPTION: The boys hit the bell with the litter picker, then hit a bell in the other corner. They run back, hit the first bell again, then look around.
[The music stops]
JAY: Oh!
NIKHIL: Hmm.
JAY: Do you think the Tooth Fairy heard it?
NIKHIL: Don't know. We'll have to wait.
[Jay hums, slide whistle, bush rustles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Later, Nikhil lies on his tummy on the grass, holding the litter picker, and Jay sits on a nearby bench, swinging his legs.
[The music stops, litter picker rattles]
DESCRIPTION: Later, Nikhil lies on the bench as Jay wanders behind a bush with the litter picker. Later, Jay dangles upside down from the bench, and Nikhil sits on the grass, resting his chin on his left hand.
NIKHIL: Hmm.
DESCRIPTION: Later, the boys sit on the grass.
JAY: But how will we know if the Tooth Fairy comes? I don't even know what they look like.
[Jay gasps, boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay stands.
JAY: Hmm.
[Chiming, Jay gasps, energetic music plays]
DESCRIPTION: In a daydream, Jay smiles as he stands on a floating tooth, holding his magic wand.
JAY: Hmm.
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay hops from tooth to tooth.
JAY: Maybe the Tooth Fairy has loads of teeth.
[Magic chimes, Jay gasps, dragon cackles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay touches his wand to a nearby tooth, and it transforms into a dragon.
JAY: Uh-uh.
[Boings]
DESCRIPTION: Jay jumps from tooth to tooth.
JAY: Or no teeth at all!
[Magic chimes, worm coos, Jay giggles, jumps boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay touches his wand to a nearby tooth, and it transforms into a winged worm. He jumps high on the floating teeth and finds floating fairy wings.
JAY: Ooh! I know!
[Puffing]
DESCRIPTION: The fairy wings disappear, then reappear on Jay’s back.
JAY: Yes! Whee! Yeah!
[Chiming, boing]
DESCRIPTION: The daydream ends, and Jay jumps excitedly in front of Amma’s shed.
[The music stops]
JAY: That's it! I could be the Tooth Fairy! I'm amazing at being a fairy!
NIKHIL: And you need a Tooth Fairy manager.
[Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay across the garden.
NIKHIL AND JAY: Yay!
[Upbeat music plays, plop]
DESCRIPTION: In the boys’ bedroom, Nikhil sits on Jay’s bed and holds his notebook, with a drawing of wings on the page.
NIKHIL: Time for the Tooth Fairy Checklist. Wings?
[Chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Jay wears his fairy wings.
JAY: Ta-da!
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil moves his pencil to a sketch of coins over a piggy bank and an arrow pointing to a pillow.
NIKHIL: Check. Money to leave under the pillow?
JAY: Hmm. But we don't have any money.
NIKHIL: I'll draw a picture instead. Amma will love that.
[Boing]
DESCRIPTION: Jay sits beside Nikhil on the bed and bounces.
JAY: Okay, but make it look like it's from the Tooth Fairy.
NIKHIL: Okay!
[Pencil scribbles, Jay gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil draws, then shows the picture to Jay.
JAY: Wow!
NIKHIL: Right. Step one. You'll get the tooth from under Amma's cushion.
[Paper rustles]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Jay the drawing of money, with a picture of the tooth fairy in the middle and a tooth on the side.
NIKHIL: Step two. Put the drawing under the cushion. You'll need this.
[Whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Jay the litter picker.
NIKHIL: And remember, no one should see you.
[Whoosh, Jay giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Jay salutes Nikhil.
NIKHIL: I'll keep Appa, Nana, and Jim away. And whatever happens…
[The music stops]
NIKHIL: Don't wake Amma.
[Bang, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil lifts his left fist, Jay stands on the ceiling wearing his fairy wings, and the drawing of the money lies beside the litter picker.
NIKHIL: Mission Tooth Fairy is go, go, go!
[Slide whistle, Amma snores, ding, light music plays, Nikhil gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay peer through the living room doorway and watch Amma sleep on the couch. They give each other a thumbs up. Nikhil runs into the hallway as Appa approaches.
NIKHIL: Appa!
[The music stops]
APPA: I was just going to check on Amma.
[Upbeat music plays]
NIKHIL: I was, uh, coming to show you something in my, uh, notebook!
[Creaking, footsteps tap, whooshing, adults gasp, squeaking]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Nikhil shows his notebook to Nana, Jim, and Appa.
NIKHIL: This is the first circle I did on my own. That's the big one. That's the medium one. Uh. And that's the tiny one!
NANA: Oh!
[Ding, Appa chuckles, nose blows]
DESCRIPTION: Nana and Jim give thumbs-up signs. Appa smiles, tears unshed in his eyes, then blows his nose.
[Boing, upbeat music plays, Jay giggles, Amma snores, litter picker rattles, slide whistle, Amma gasps, Jay gasps, Amma groans, snores]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Jay reaches for the yellow box under the pillow with the litter picker, and Amma rolls onto her tummy, arms over the pillow. She rolls over, and Jay sneaks closer.
[Amma gasps]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits up in her sleep.
AMMA: Step away from the dumpling or the jelly gets it!
[Whoosh, boing, Amma snores]
DESCRIPTION: Amma moves her arm close to the box, and Jay pulls the litter picker away. Amma flops back onto the pillow. Jay stops and blinks rapidly.
[Whoosh, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Nikhil shows Jim, Nana, and Appa circles in his notebook.
NIKHIL: And these are circles inside circles.
JIM: Oh! That's a lot of circles, Nikhil.
[Jim chuckles]
APPA: Oh! They are beautiful. What a talent!
[Harp music plays, ding, whooshing, creaking, Amma sighs, thump]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil smiles broadly. In the living room, Jay reaches for the box with the litter picker and grabs the pillow. Amma falls off the couch.
[The music stops]
AMMA: Ah! Jay?
JAY: Whoops.
[Appa gasps]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, everyone looks towards the living room doorway.
APPA: What was that?
[Adults exclaim, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil gives Appa the notebook. He nudges him and winks.
NIKHIL: I'll go and check! You stay and count all my circles. Whoever gets it right, uh, will win a prize!
APPA: Yeah!
JIM: Aw.
[Nana giggles]
DESCRIPTION: Appa looks at the notebook.
APPA: One, two.
[Whoosh, the music stops]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Amma sits on the pillow on the floor.
AMMA: Oh, wow! My mouth isn't numb anymore!
[Jay and Amma giggle]
NIKHIL: Huh?
[Slide whistles, cheerful music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil arrives.
NIKHIL WHISPERS: Did you do it?
JAY: Not yet. She woke up.
[Amma yawns]
DESCRIPTION: Amma stands and stretches.
AMMA: Right. Need to crack on. Must thank Nana and Jim properly for looking after you while we were out.
[Descending music notes play]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay block Amma.
[The music stops, footsteps tap]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay walk towards Amma, and she backs up.
NIKHIL: Uh-uh. You know the Tooth Fairy rules. Go back to sleep now.
AMMA: Uh, okay. But I'm not sleepy.
JAY: We'll help you with our sleepy noises.
AMMA: Mmm. Okay.
[Whooshing, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lies on the couch with her hands under her head, and Nikhil and Jay join her.
AMMA: Ooh! Are you two going to sleep as well?
NIKHIL: No, but we can only make the noises lying down.
JAY: Ready, Amma? Close your eyes. No peeking.
AMMA: Hmm.
[Jay imitates waves, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: Jay moves up the couch and waves his arms by Amma’s head. Nikhil moves to Amma’s other ear. She smiles and opens one eye.
NIKHIL: And listen to the sound of ocean waves.
[Amma chuckles]
AMMA: Sounds more like a whale flushing the toilet.
[Amma chuckles, Jay shushes her]
AMMA: Oh.
JAY: Relax and listen, Amma.
[Jay whooshes, Amma giggles, whoosh]
DESCRIPTION: In the dining room, Appa looks at the notebook.
APPA: 87, 88, 89, 90!
[Nana giggles]
NANA: Oh! You missed one there, pet!
[Book rustles]
APPA: Oh!
[Jim chuckles]
APPA: 91, 92.
[The music stops; Amma, Jay, and Nikhil snore; Jim sighs]
DESCRIPTION: In the living room, Amma, Jay, and Nikhil sleep on the couch. Appa enters, carrying the notebook, and Nana and Jim follow him.
APPA: I've got it! I've got it! It's 123 circles!
DESCRIPTION: Amma, Jay, and Nikhil awaken.
AMMA: What?
APPA: Oops! Aw, sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.
[Slide whistle, relaxed music note plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits up and stretches. Jay and Nikhil sit beside her.
AMMA: Oh! I must have dozed off again. Thanks for the sleepy noises, boys; I feel very rested.
[Boys gasp, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay slide down to the floor.
NIKHIL: I fell asleep, too! Did you get her tooth, Jay?
[Jay gasps]
JAY: I fell asleep, too.
NIKHIL: Oh, no! Amma will think—
JAY: The Tooth Fairy didn't visit!
[Dramatic music notes play, boys gasp, Max meows, paper rustles, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay look at each other wide-eyed and open-mouthed. Max arrives, jumps onto the pillow on the couch, and a note falls to the floor.
AMMA: Hmm. What's this?
[Paper rustles, Max meows, gentle music plays]
DESCRIPTION: Amma picks up the note.
AMMA: It says: "Thank you for your tooth. With toothy wishes from the Tooth Fairy!"
[Amma gasps, party horns blow, slide whistles, boys gasp, upbeat music plays, chiming]
DESCRIPTION: Amma lifts the cushion, and the yellow box is gone.
AMMA: Nikhil! Jay! Look! My tooth is gone! I got my first-ever visit from the Tooth Fairy. Super!
NIKHIL: The Tooth Fairy must have heard us.
JAY: They really came!
[Squeak; Jim, Appa, and Nana cheer]
DESCRIPTION: Amma hugs Nikhil and Jay
APPA: That is a first. The Tooth Fairy visiting a grown-up.
JIM: Ay! One day, I hope they'll visit me, too!
[Dings; Jim, Appa, and Nana chuckle]
DESCRIPTION: Jim holds Max cradled in his arms and winks at her. She winks back.
NIKHIL AND JAY: We could make that happen!
[Tap]
DESCRIPTION: Nikhil and Jay fist-bump. Nikhil, Jay, and Amma dance.
AMMA, NIKHIL, AND JAY: Tooth Fairy! Tooth Fairy! Tooth Fairy! Tooth Fairy!
[Slide whistle, crashing, carrom coins clatter]
DESCRIPTION: Amma falls and knocks the carrom board.
AMMA: Ah!
[Slide whistle, everyone chuckles]
DESCRIPTION: Amma sits up with her eyeglasses askew.
